A fortnightly podcast that will take a look behind the scenes of some of London's creative industries. - Over 1 hour each Podcast allows Ben Stuart to interview one of these 'creative entrepreneurs' who have started their own practice or studio and can range from Architects, to Artist, designers, animators, musicians and anyone in-between - Ben is an architect from Make in London who is passionate about all areas of the creative design industry and loves behind the scenes documentaries and aims with this podcast to fuse the two in a light hearted informal chat. Hello and welcome to part 2 of episode 23 of the create more podcast all about architecture. Sam Barcley who I interviewed back in episode 15 about kickstarter interviews me about how I got into architecture. We talk all about the (rather lengthy) route I went to studying to become an architect. I studied at Nottingham university for 7 years, and have been at Make architects for almost 6 years. In my time at university I have designed skyscrapers, concrete freerunning sculptures, libraries & observation towers. At Make I have worked on UBS banks headquarters and also am currently working in a skyscraper in the city of London. Its been a long journey with an equally long podcast. Enjoy.

#Ep22 - EU Referendum Debate - Gisela Stuart & Laura Sandys  

Hello and welcome to a Create More Podcast first. A live debate, based on the EU Referendum. Gisela Stuart, the labour MP and Brexit Chair, against Laura Sandys, conservative MP and chair of the European movement. All this was hosted by Bill Webb, who is back in London at Make after running the Make Beijing office for 3 years. We start the podcast with a chat with Bill about why he set up the debate at Make offices in London and why he feels its important to hear both sides of the argument before making a decision. We then have a 45 minute debate with questions from the audience at the end, along with a poll of the office! It was really interesting debate and neither women held back. Apologises for the poor audio for the first half of the debate, if you skip ahead to 37 minutes when the debate starts the microphones get turned on. Enjoy.

Episode 21 is with Labour MP Gisela Stuart who is heading up the Brexit campaign, along with Boris Johnson. Gisela is featuring more and more prominently in the news, and with it being such a hot topic I thought it would be really interesting to hear her side of the brexit campaign. I should point out the Gisela is also my Mum. We have a chat all about the history of the EU, her reason for wanting to the leave the EU and more importantly my lack of pocket money as a child. Will has just completed his 3rd short film, Somatic which was crowd funded on Indigogo. Kibwe has been a director I have been a fan of since seeing his RIBA silver award winning university project; Robots of Brixton, and he has gone on the build Factory 15 up to 12 people and directed awesome short films such as Jonah and ANA as well as architectural films. Hello & welcome to episode 13 of the Create More Podcast. This fortnight we are joined by the lovely Fred Mills from The B1M. Many (including me) believe that BIM (building information modeling) is the future. Fred does to, and this podcasts focuses on what BIM is and why it is helpful. Fred is co-founder of this web based company www.theb1m.com, who's aim is to shift the focus from BIM being used by a small group of experts to mass uptake that will greatly improve the architecture, engineering and construction industries. They want to do this by by reaching out and engaging people in a way that inspires them rather than expecting them to download and read boring documents which is why they focus on youtube distributed media. He is a really interesting and passionate guy and its great to see the younger generation of the construction industry getting excited and behind BIM. We talk all about this and more. Enjoy

#Episode 10: Create More Podcast – Victoria Thornton - Open City  

Hello & welcome to episode 10 of the Create More Podcast with the lovely Victoria Thornton, the founder and CEO of Open-City. Open House was started in 1992 as a small, not-for-profit organisation to promote public awareness and appreciation of the capital's building design and architecture. The intention was to open up London's splendid buildings to the general public who don't otherwise have access. Victoria came over to our tiny recording studio at Make's studio and her and Ben talk all about how Open-City started and how her career has evolved and how, Open-House as it was originally called, expanded over the years. She is currently stepping down as CEO of open-city to concentrate on Open-City world wide with over 100 cities are aiming to become part of the this wider family. #Episode 9: Create More Podcast – Chris Romer-Lee  - Studio Octopi  

Hello and welcome to Episode 9 of the Create More podcast. This fortnight Ben went over to the Studio Octopi studio in South London to talk one half of the founding directors Chris Romer-Lee. Studio Octopi are a really interesting architectural design studio established in 2003 who grew through a series of small residential projects and are now doing some fantastic projects in many different sectors, such as the Bradford college Greek Theatre, and also the Delfina Foundation Project. They have also made a name for themselves with the Thames Baths project, which is the idea of a floating swimming pool in the Thames. This design is part of growing series of projects done with a successful Kickstarter campaign. The project has already smashed its target of £125,000 to take it to planning and they are aiming to complete (if all goes to plan) in 2017. Ben and Chris talk all about this and how the practice started and more over the course of an hour. Enjoy!

Hello & welcome to Episode 8 of the Create More Podcast. This fortnight Ben was joined by Su Butcher who is the founder of JustPractising.com and is a social media consultant specialising in the construction industry and all round lovely person. Su trained in Architecture at the University of Liverpool and worked in affordable housing before becoming an academic and teacher of architecture students. She then managed three successful architects practices in London and the South East; culminating in five years with Barefoot & Gilles. Since then she has developed a reputation as the go-to person for people who want to work with architects online. Su now spends her time consulting on social media strategy, talking to product manufacturers about how to sell to architects, and teaching anyone who wants to know how to use Linkedin, Twitter and Blogging to support their clients and get more business. #Episode 7: Create More Podcast - Make - Ken Shuttleworth  

Hello & welcome to Episode 7 of the Create More Podcast. This fortnight Ben was joined by Make Architects founder (and Ben's boss...) Ken Shuttleworth. Ken founded Make in 2003 with only 4 people and it has rapidly expanded over the last 10+ years to over 150 staff in offices, all over the world, including London, Hong Kong and Beijing. Make are known for creative, sustainable architecture with buildings such as The Cube in Birmingham, St Pauls information Kiosk and 5 Broadgate to name a few. Prior to Make Ken worked his way up through the ranks of Fosters and was a central figure on projects such as The Gherkin, Wembley Stadium, HSBC and the Millennium Bridge. Hello & welcome to episode 6 of the Create More Podcast. This fortnights episode is the with the co-founder of Wikihouse - Alastair Parvin. WikiHouse is an open-source project for designing and building houses. Its goals are to democratise and simplify the construction of sustainable, resource-light dwellings. The project was initiated in the summer of 2011 by Alastair Parvin and Nick Ierodiaconou of 00, a London architecture practice. It has grown around the world with chapters China, south Korea, New Zeland and America. Alastair is deeply passionate about the future of a truly opensource design world and over the following hour him and Ben talk all about the beginnings of this '3rd industrial revolution' and where Wikihouse is heading in the future.
