Podcast Beyond

Podcast Beyond

The IGN PlayStation Team sits down and talks all things Sony, sprinkling a little madness and song along the way. Podcast Beyond is the premiere source for Sony news, opinions and old-fashioned shenanigans.

Podcast Beyond Episode 465: Red Dead's Scenic Grandeur, Titanfall 2's Platforming, and Review Copies

Hey gang! This week, your pals Max "The Far Side" Scoville, Marty "Zippy The Pinhead" Sliva, Brian "For Better of For Worse" Altano, and Andrew "Garfield" Goldfarb wax poetic (and cinematic and artistic) about Red Dead Redemption 2's reveal trailer, and Jared Petty's lovely writeup about its Western themes. Titanfall 2 is being received really well, and finally, Bethesda is done sending out early review copies, which is a little frustrating for people in our field.

Podcast Beyond 464: Red Dead Redemption 2 Expectations, PS VR, and Battlefield 1

This week, Max "Baja Blast" ScovilleBrian "Pitch Black" AltanoMarty "Code Red" Sliva, and Alanah "Live Wire" Pearce have teamed up, yet again, to make noises with their weird little mouths. Obviously, the big news is the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2, so we talk about our hopes and expectations, as well as Rockstar's legacy. Then, Max gushes about Battlefield One, which is weird, since he normally hates competitive military shooters. Finally, Brian got a PSVR, and he's in love with it.

Podcast Beyond 463: Mafia 3, Westworld & What Makes Good Open World Games

This week, Max "Bucket of Pogs" Scoville, Marty "A Boglin" Sliva, and Andrew "The Littlest Pet Shop" Goldfarb are joined by Lucy "X-Men Fleer Ultra" O'Brien to chat about Mafia III and how in spite of all it does well, it doesn't quite work as a sandbox game. Conversely, HBO's Westworld is shaping up to be one of the best shows about video games that isn't actually about video games.

Podcast Beyond Episode 462: PlayStation VR is Finally Here!

Most of the crew is in New York City covering Comic-Con, so Marty and Andrew brought in a rotating crew of IGN editors who handled a bulk of the initial PlayStation VR reviews. Is the future finally upon us, or is VR just a passing fad?

Podcast Beyond Episode 461: Watch Dogs 2 is Exactly What We Were Hoping For

This week, Brian "Alvin" Altano, Max "Simon" Scoville and Andrew "Theodore" Goldfarb sit down to discuss their time playing Watch Dogs 2, Persona 5 (in Japanese) and just when we're discussing the novel concept of a Firewatch movie, we're interrupted by the delivery of a brand new piece of Playstation-branded gaming hardware. I wonder what it could be!

Podcast Beyond Episode 460: What Are Your 3 Most Anticipated Games This Fall?

This week, Max "True Lies" Scoville, Brian "Raw Deal" Altano, Marty "Junior" Sliva and Alanah "Kindergarten Cop" Pearce break down the three games each of them are looking forward to most about this fall's lineup of big game releases. Plus, Max played Last Guardian (along with Zach, who wrote a great preview) and Hideo Kojima threw some shade in the direction of Metal Gear Survive.

Also also also: We're having a 20th anniversary party for IGN on October 16th, buy your tickets here!

Podcast Beyond Episode 459: Do We Want Death Stranding Details This Soon?

This week, Max "Hawaiian Scarecrow" Scoville, Marty "Drunk Cowardly Lion" Sliva, Brian "Angry Italian Tin Man" Altano and Andrew "Aw Toto" Goldfarb chime in on some of the Sony announcements coming out of TGS, the eighteen demos (edit: eight in Europe) that come with PSVR, and a few new details about Hideo Kojima's new mystery project, Death Stranding.

Podcast Beyond Episode 458.5: The Playstation Pro Event Post-Show

Hey gang! We apologize this is so terribly late, but here's the audio from our live show following Sony's unveiling of the PS4 Pro last week. You can catch the video version on IGN or on our YouTube channel.

We'll be back with a new episode at the usual time and more in-depth thoughts!

Podcast Beyond Episode 458: There's No PSVR Killer App Yet, But You Can Fly An X-Wing

This week, Max "Jalapeño" Scoville, Brian "Salt & Vinegar" Altano, and Alanah "Mesquite BBQ" Pearce are joined by Ryan "New York Cheddar" McCaffrey to talk about our expectations for Sony's mysterious Playstation event next week in New York City. Plus, we discuss the weird stuff you can do in Playstation VR, from harassing bikini-women, to piloting an X-Wing and shooting down TIE Fighters.

Podcast Beyond Episode 457: The Slim, The Neo, and Titanfall 2's Grappling Hook

This week, everyone's on vacation or MIA, so the show has been taken over by LADIES. That's right, this week, it's Alanah "Wild America" Pearce, Kallie "Man of the House" Plagge, Miranda "Tom & Huck" Sanchez, and a mysterious newcomer to the show who is totally not just Max "Home Improvement" Scoville wearing a wig.

Anyway, this week we discuss the Titanfall 2 early tech alpha demo thing, the leaked Playstation Slim (Neo?) photos, the Playstation Plus price increase, Alanah's review of Valley, Metal Gear Survive, and how much we want a Sex & The City game. Don't worry, those smelly boys will be back next week.

Podcast Beyond 456: Final Fantasy 15 & South Park 2, Two Very Different RPGs

This week, everybody's off at Gamescom, so Max "Howlin' Mad" Scoville, Marty "Full Moon Fever" Sliva, and Alanah "Teen Wolf" Pearce talk about what they've been playing, like indie ballerina non-game Bound, and of course No Man's Sky. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XV's been delayed, but thankfully the movie hasn't, and Marty says it's pretty good.

Podcast Beyond Episode 455: No Man's Sky & Iron Galaxy

This week's Beyond is a little unusual, as Max "Roof-Rack" Scoville, Brian "The Glovebox" Altano, Andrew "Center Console" Goldfarb and Zach "Cool Skull-Shaped Gearshift Knob" Ryan talk about their mixed, but mostly positive feelings toward the much-anticipated No Man's Sky.

Then, Zach and Goldie take off to make room for Iron Galaxy bigwigs Chelsea Blasko and Dave Lang, as well their newly-hired colleague Adam Boyes, who you might know from his time with Sony and Capcom. They give us a little insight into what it's like working at a larger independent studio, the balance of creativity and business that goes into game publishing, "jankiness", and Adam's really corny Twitter handle.

No Man's Sky Leak, Telltale's Batman, and Abzu's Beauty - Beyond #454

This week, Max "Earth" Scoville, Alanah "Fire" Pearce, Jared "Wind" Petty, and Marty "Water" Sliva gather together to chat about all sorts of nonsense, including No Man's Sky's leak, impressions of Telltale's Batman, the beauty of Abzu, Inside coming to PS4, and animals in sunglasses.

Podcast Beyond Episode 453: What Games Should Be on a PS1 Mini?

Join Max "Stretch Armstrong" Scoville, Brian "Crossfire" Altano, Zach "Bop-It" Ryan, and Jonathan "Play-Doh Fun Factory" Dornbush as they discuss the lack of game news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con. Plus, with the advent of Nintendo's NES Classic Mini, what classic Sony titles would we want on a lil' baby PlayStation 1? We asked you guys, and for the most part, you made some great choices.

Beyond #452: Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4, Dead Rising's Return, and An Amazing Month of Indies

This week, Marty "Word of Mouf" Sliva, Max "The Red Light District" Scoville, Brian "Chicken and Beer" Altano, and Alanah "Back For the First Time" Pearce get together to talk about how rad Rise of the Tomb Raider looks on PlayStation 4, hype that Dead Rising is finally coming to a Sony console, and fear that Gravity Rush 2's release date is a bad sign.

Podcast Beyond Episode 451: No Man’s Sky Skepticism, Demon’s Souls Remaster, and PSVR’s Killer App

This week Marty "Mr. Mime" Sliva, Alanah "Jynx" Pearce, Brian "Seel" Altano, Jonathon "Porygon" Dornbush, and Max "Farfetch'd" Scoville get together to discuss all sorts of nonsense, including No Man's Sky going gold, the possibility of a Demon's Souls Remaster, PSVR's killer app, and POKEMON GO.

Podcast Beyond Episode 450: The One With Greg and Colin

Greg and Colin return for a two-hour chat with the crew about everything PlayStation and Beyond history.

Note: We recorded this off-site at a bar, so pardon the audio quality.

Also note: We're trying an experiment with explicit episodes. Our goal in the future is to offer both edited and unedited versions.

Podcast Beyond Episode 449: VITA LIVES!

This week, Marty “Porkchop” Sliva, Max “Beagle Boy” Scoville, Brian “Ren” Altano, Andrew “Bandit” Goldfarb gather round and camp fire to once again cast a pod. It’s a pretty slow week, but they still found time to babble about Batman: Return to Arkham’s delay, the Vita’s second life, and why LEGO Force Awakens is DOPE.

Podcast Beyond Episode 448.5: 2nd Annual Late-Night E3 Shenanigans

Welcome to our second annual late-night, slightly-tipsy E3 Beyond! The Fig, the site of last year’s episode, was under construction, so we had to improvise. We recorded this on the last night of the show in Zach’s Airbnb, so pardon the audio quality/background noise/yelling/sounds of drinks being made/slurring.

Greg Miller returns to Beyond to join Max Scoville, Alanah Pearce, Marty Sliva, Steve Butts, Zach Ryan, Miranda Sanchez, Kallie Plagge, and making his Podcast Beyond debut, IGN’s newest associate editor Jonathon Dornbush.

The crew talks about their impressions of God of War, Death Stranding, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Detroit: Become Human, The Last Guardian, Batman Arkham VR, Insomniac’s Spider-Man game, Days Gone, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, E3’s secret Vita game, pangus (probably), and a whole lot more.

Oh, and HUGE thanks to James Faulkner for producing/editing the episode and making sure that none of us lost our jobs.

Podcast Beyond Episode 448: Sony's Incredible E3

This week Marty "Cappadonna" SlivaMax "Masta Killa" ScovilleBrian "Inspectah Deck" Altano, and Andrew "U-God" Goldfarb talk about the madness of E3. God of War, Detroit, Death Stranding Persona 5, Last Guardian, Horizon, Batman VR, holy moly E3 2016 was incredible.
