285- Wedding Scams, Rip-offs and Things To Look Out For

Your wedding, the event itself, is one of the most exciting and romantic business transactions you will ever make. Like any business dealings, unfortunately, there are people and companies who are out to take advantage of couples (and vendors). In this episode of Bridechilla, I share some of the more common (and unusual) ways that people have been scammed and tricked out of their money and give you easy ways to protect yourself during your wedding planning and beyond.

It's unlikely that you will come across any of these issues but as always, knowledge is power and being aware is a much better state of mind than ignorance.

284- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A: Colorado Edition

It’s an unintentional (but fabulous) Colorado Q&A edition of the Bridechilla Podcast. My husband Rich joins me in my squishy sound booth to answer your wedding planning questions. We talk about parents treating us like 12-year-olds…which ironically makes them seem like 12 years olds sometimes.

Why, when it comes to wedding planning does it sometimes trigger the control freak ‘you can’t handle basic tasks’ mode from parents? We’re all adults who make big life decisions, we work, we feed ourselves, so what’s with the regressive nature of their response?

We also look at how to handle jealousy between your parents and your in-laws and explore a conundrum between a fabulous venue and a close relative who due to help reasons can’t make it to that location. :(

What should they do? Move the wedding? All that and a lot, lot more on Bridechilla!

283- Wedding Guest Perspective: 7 Weddings in One Year

Thinking about your wedding from your guests perspective can be a great way to problem solve and also consider the experience that you are hoping to create.

This episode, I interview Harri and Harri, our lovely friends who are attending 7 weddings this summer, in three different countries, some of which they are members of the bridal party, others guests. We speak about their favorite moments, things they would change and some of the very fun ideas that have been injected into the weddings that they have attended so far…glitter tables!

Harri and Harri are fun and fabulous and as well as having a laugh, I have no doubt that the information and guidance that they share will be helpful to you in your own wedding planning.

282- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A

In this episode, I also share some wonderful stories and advice from Bridechilla vendors who shared their most valuable advice for keeping chill when it comes to planning your wedding and I answer your wedding planning questions!

Bridechilla Kelsey wants to know about the etiquette behind partners of the bridal party and what they should do in the lead up to the wedding and on the wedding morning? Is it kosher for a partner to attend a groomsman's morning, while they prepare for the wedding? Kelsey has met a girlfriend of a groomsman who believes that she'll be hanging out with the guys on the morning of the wedding, and Kelsey thinks that this is probably not that appropriate.

Bridechilla Christina has a question about bridal party selection. She has a rather long list and is worried about letting people down.

I share my thoughts about how to select people that you want to be part of your day without feeling guilt, or resentment when it comes to leaving people off the list, especially if you have a lot of close friends.

A great question from Bridechilla Mary about her choice to only serve vegetarian food at the wedding. She's had a couple of friends and family members react negatively to their choice. With such negative feedback, what should Mary do? Should she stick to her guns and not serve any meat products at their wedding, or should she create a meat option to appease her friends and family who don't get their vegetarianism?

281- Ditching Wedding Stress and Anxiety with Dr Lindsay Bira

There has been a lot of talk in The Bridechilla Community of late about wedding planning with depression, stress, and anxiety. The conversation has been candid and I am so happy that we have a place where Bridechillas feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences.

Pre-existing depression, anxiety, and stress don't just stop because you are engaged. We are so often told that we should just cheer up or that ‘you’’ be fine on the day’ when it comes to anxiety. and a surprising amount of Bridechillas feel experience anxiety and stress due to wedding planning. Expectations, family relationships, and work pressure, on top of the pressure we put on ourselves, can all add up.

If you are nervous or worried about being the centre of attention or the focal point of your wedding day, if you are nervous about the pressure of maintaining tenuous family relationships during this period of your life or are worried about how to talk about stress, depression, and anxiety, then I know today’s episode will be super helpful.

My returning guest, Dr Lindsay Bira is a clinical health psychologist functioning as a therapist, consultant and speaker in San Antonio, TX.

We hope to reduce stigma related to mental illness and mental health treatments.

280- Chasing Your Veil- Why The Wedding 'System' Is Broken

This episode of Bridechilla Podcast, we fight back! What from you say? The patriarchy, the pressure, the feeling that can sometimes appear that we can never get ahead with wedding planning and life and all of the other stuff that we have to get done. The feeling that we are chasing our veil… Cali Pitchel is a Bridechilla who is planning a very Bridechilla wedding event (I’ll leave that to her to share the details in the episode). We talk about being consumed by the wedding process, all of the click bait stories of p Cali is also the marketing manager from from withjoy.com, the free wedding website & app that does more! I love Cali’s energy and passion towards being a part of the Bridechilla movement and I know you’ll get a kick out of this episode!

278- Your Best Wedding Money Saving Ideas

Sticking to a budget and maintaining your vision for your wedding can be a constant battle. Wanting to save money in your wedding budget doesn't make you cheap or tight...seriously, it makes you a conscientious and smart. Why spend more than you need, especially when you can funnel those saving into other areas of your wedding (or mortgage or honeymoon!).
The surprise and realisation of the cost of some aspects of planning a wedding can be a total Debbie Downer- especially when those first quotes come rolling in. ‘It costs HOW MUCH?’ was our usual response…and then we’d worry and wonder if it was ever going to be possible to pull the whole thing off!
In this episode of the Bridechilla Podcast, I share some of The Bridechilla Communities, favorite and very clever responses to saving money. These aren’t the standard ‘Just DIY everything’ ideas either (which might I add can get you into more trouble than it is worth sometimes). What great about these tips is that as well as being forward thinking and sustainable, they're all adaptable for any budget.

276- What does a Wedding Coordinator actually do?

If there is one thing that everyone can agree on, it is that weddings are a ton of work. If you are engaged, I am sure you are already feeling spreadsheet overwhelm and decision fatigue. We’ve all heard couples compare wedding planning to having a second full time job, except you are not getting paid - in fact you are the ones paying!

The fact of the matter is that for most couples, this is the first time you have ever planned an event of this magnitude. There are lots of moving parts and little details to take care of and that is before you even get to the family politics and societal traditions. Strip away all the emotional baggage from a wedding, and you still have a huge task on your hands.

This episode’s guest Erica Greenwold Reisen is the lead planner and designer at Folie à Deux Events. She specializes in authentic, unique events for couples who like to challenge traditions and do their own thing. Erica is going to break down exactly what a Wedding Coordinator does, how to hire them and how much you should invest in their services! A MUST listen Bridechillas!

275- Easy Ways To Plan A Sustainable Wedding

Planning a wedding that is sustainable saves you money and makes you feel good about your carbon footprint and the good news is, it is super easy. As I found when I asked the Bridechilla Community Facebook Group for suggestions, there are literally hundreds of small changes that you can make to ensure that your wedding leaves an impact on you are your guest lives and not the environment (and your wallet!). I’m excited to share this episode with you as I truly believe that by making these changes we can do our bit to make impactful changes on the way we think and behave- and it makes you feel pretty smug and delicious inside too! 202- Dress Mess- When Vendors Go Bad

I am a huge advocate of supporting local businesses especially when it comes to wedding planning. I am also an advocate of good customer service and making sure that the vendor is that you hire are reliable, have good references and testimonials and don't rip you off! Today on the show I share three stories from bridechillas, who have had less than exemplary service when it comes to dress suppliers and designers. I’m was keen to create this episode, not as Debbie Downer would make you feel worried but as a way to educate and inform both you and the bridechillas and vendors on what to expect and how to deal with a bad customer service experience especially when it comes to purchase that has a huge emotional anaesthetic significance such as your wedding dress and attire. I am grateful for the openness and honesty that today's guests have shared and thankful for Belinda, Kate and Nova’s participation. Please note I have not named and shamed any of the businesses in this episode, I think they're doing a bad enough job on the road, without adding more bad publicity to the record. If you have suffered a similar experience or you are having problems with the vendor and you feel like you would like to share your story with the bridechilla audience, please get in touch.

262- 18 Wedding Planning Truths- Best Of

I have been a little under the weather this week and have lot my voice so instead of heating croaky McCroke on the show, I present to you this Best of Bridechilla episode! I’ve been working on my new book… which is all being a bridechilla (of course) and I started to create a list of wedding planning truths, things that will just happen when you are wedding planning and basically the sooner we accept them the sooner we can get over them and move on. As soon as I finish the list I realised this would be a great podcast topic. In this episode I cover everything from… the gargantuan amount of wedding dresses on offer that all seem to look the same, why I believe wedding magazines are on the way out, how to avoid getting sucked into creating an over the top themed, extravaganza wedding and your inevitable move into becoming a bridechilla politician, one of the many hats that you will wear over your wedding planning time.

244- Confessions of a Wedding DJ- BRIDECHILLA BEST OF

(Back on Thursday with new episodes for 2017!)
One of my favourite episodes of the Bridechilla Podcast, which is filled with valuable info about how to really smash your wedding music choices! For something so imperative to creative a mood and the overall success of a wedding celebration, music is often a last minute decision or afterthought. So many couples just get someone to whack together a mixed tape (mp3!) and hope for the best? A lot more than you would imagine! In episode 107, we crack the case of creating the ideal wedding music for your big day! The job of a wedding DJs has evolved and today’s podcast guest, Tony Winyard has been Dj-ing for over twenty years! He’s worked at over two thousand weddings and has an enduring passion for helping to make weddings both memorable and fun with the entertainment that he provides. He also has 10,000+ hours experience on the club scene, both in the UK and abroad.

242- Overcoming Wedding Stress with Dr Lindsay Bira- BEST OF

In today’s BEST OF BRIDECHILLA episode I welcome Dr Lindsay Bira, a clinical health psychologist who is here to help us with the tools to put into place to prevent stress or at least lessen the burden especially when it comes to wedding planning. Being stressed doesn’t mean you aren’t happy, or not coping…everyone manages (and recognises) stress in different ways, so in today’s show, Dr Lindsay gives us some very practical ways to alter our communication, be more mindful and hopefully by the end of the show you will be on your way to being more aware of your stress triggers and how to settle the anxiety and communicate with friends and family more productively. Dr Lindsay Bira is a clinical health psychologist functioning as a therapist, consultant and speaker in San Antonio, TX. In these episodes we hope to reduce stigma related to mental illness and mental health treatments.

233- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A...from the car

Last week’s Q&A episode was recorded on a plane…this week? My studio is in a hire car in a Starbucks carpark while Rich is on a site visit (he is an Architect). No matter where I record the show, my focus is always on helping you my Bridechilla and Groomchilla friends! As well as a quick recap on our wonderful visit to Maui for Bridechilla Belinda’s wedding (my cousin), I also answer questions from Bridechilla Amy, who is having problems with family disharmony and how to get around having to be the meat in the problem sandwich and placating the drama when it comes to wedding invitations and who should attend their wedding. Bridechilla Lauren is pondering how to convince her parents that their friend will make a wonderful officiant for their wedding- I share some advice to help alleviate the parental concerns for having a friend marry them and to make sure they understand that they are ’taking the wedding seriously’. The Bridechilla App is coming soon. We’re very excited to share more info with you in the coming weeks!

BEST OF: 210- A Practical Wedding with Meg Keene

Episode 210- It’s the Bridechilla Best of, where I share with you some of my favourite episodes of the show. I knew I was going to get along with today’s guest when I visited her personal website and the first thing I read was a quote… ‘A Diva is the female version of a hustler’ Meg Keene is the founder of the fabulous website A Practical Wedding. She ‘turned a love of glitter and feminism’ into one of the fastest growing wedding brands in the world. I am such a fan and it is a massive pleasure to have her on the show today to talk all things, weddings, feminism, tinder and her brand spanking new book, A Practical Wedding Planner: Planning The Wedding You Want With The Budget You've Got (Without Losing Your Mind In The Process).

194- Bridechilla Belinda- Choosing a Theme

Part 2 of my interview with Bridechilla Belinda (who just happens to be my cousin). She and her fiancé Luke are planning their upcoming destination wedding in Hawaii. Belinda is an Australian and Luke is from the United States and in today's podcast we talk about hiring a wedding planner and whether or not it is cool to go rogue and ditch the seating plan…something that is a contentious issue with my Aunty Ann (Belinda’s Mum). We also talk about choosing a theme, something Belinda wasn’t that fussed with and ditching traditions that are not meaningful to you. This episode, part 2 of the interview, was recorded while we were holidaying in Iceland, it's fun and I think you will get a lot out of it including some wonderful tips by the very resourceful #bridechilla Belinda!

193- Bridechilla Belinda: Casual Wedding Planning (Part 1)

A much-requested topic and theme of the wedding podcast have been featuring real brides and grooms talking about their wedding planning. In today's episode, I interview my cousin Belinda and her fiancé Luke, who are planning their upcoming destination wedding in Hawaii. Belinda is an Australian and Luke is from the United States, so I think this episode brings an interesting perspective of mixing cultural traditions and interpreting new traditions when it comes to combining their wants and needs for the wedding. This episode, part 1 of the interview, was recorded while we were holidaying in Iceland, it's fun and I think you will get a lot out of it including some wonderful tips by the very resourceful #bridechilla Belinda!

Bridechilla Best of: 172- The Guest List & RSVPs

Today I revisit some moments from an earlier episode, with a new twist…the guest list and RSVPs. When you’re planning a wedding, creating a guest list, who to send those magic wedding invitations to, should be discussed early and discussed often. Like my very dear, close personal friend Heidi Klum says 'You are either in, or you're out'. Today obligation wedding guests (and how to ditch them). I give easy, clear cut solutions to prevent family wars, relationship breakdowns and how to adhere to basic manners and etiquette without inviting the whole neighbourhood to your wedding day. As with your budget, with guest list and numbers you’re going to need to set clear goals and guidelines. What is your absolute maximum number of guests? Do you first work out your guest list and then your wedding budget or do you find a venue, work out the pricing and then the guest list? Should you invite friends from work? Your cousin has a new girlfriend, does she have to come? Parents paying? How much say do they get? Take a breath. Relax and listen to this episode to regain control of the list and invite who YOU want to invite. I enjoyed listening to some of my earlier advice and updating a few points along the way and know you will too!

001: Who is Aleisha McCormack and why a wedding podcast?

Hello, I'm Aleisha, the host of Bridechilla Podcast. I'm a professional big mouth and home work out enthusiast (I'm also an Australian Comedian and TV Presenter).

My hit wedding planning book Smart Wedding, a budget busting wedding planning guide, is in its second edition. I think planning a wedding should be super FUN but for lots of couples it can FULL ON. It’s a big day… an event like no other.

The average wedding uses over 20 vendors and suppliers to bring it all together and for couples that haven’t planned an event of this size and nature before (seriously who has?) it can be stressful and overwhelming. Boo to that. I created Bridechilla Podcast to bring world class vendors, wedding experts and interesting folk, straight into your ears. You can listen to me talking about weddings on the train, in the car or going for a run… think of me as your big mouth friend, gathering the best of the best in the wedding world to make your planning EASY and most importantly FUN! There is no topic too big, no detail too small, I’m going to cover it all. Happy wedding couples, brides, grooms, engaged folk and their everyone else who's interested in the happy world of wedding planning.
