235- Wedding Planner Dramas with Bridechilla Katilyn
I spoke briefly about Bridechilla Kaitlyn’s wedding planner dramas in last week’s wedding planning Q&A episode and I am happy to bring you her interview on today’s show. Kaitlyn kindly shares some of the pros and cons of hiring vendors overseas and relying on ratings and reviews to find wedding professionals. As a level headed, take no bullshit, Bridechilla Kaitlyn quickly figured out that the wedding planner that she and her fiancé hired wasn’t pulling her weight and was subcontracting the work instead of handling the job herself. As the bad reviews started to pile up and the planner took weeks to reply to Kaitlyn’s emails, she quickly made a decision to cut the cord and find new help. She shares some practical advice about how to decided if people are legit and stay calm when things go slightly off course. I know you will enjoy this show and find value in her advice and experiences! The Bridechilla App is coming very soon. Download it for free and access over 200+ ad free episodes and bonus extras! 234- We only wear pink on Wednesdays- Wedding Forums
A few months ago, I put out a request asking for your feedback about wedding planning forums. I have been lurking, making observations of the forums, especially the big forums that attract thousands of brides who are planning their weddings. Like the podcast, I think wedding planning forums are a great place to connect with like-minded brides who want to help each other and support each other through sharing ideas, inspiration and coming together as a community to make planning easier. I received a bunch of emails and screen grabs of wedding forums posts from Bridechillas, that really surprised me in one way but then also knowing how people are and the anonymity that being a part of any forum can bring, they always attract a certain level of idiot. What upset me was an attitude of ‘you ask for our opinion and we giving it to you so don't get offended’. As listeners of the show are away I am quite open with my opinions but also encourage listeners to give their feedback and share their differences of opinion in an open forum without feeling that I am some sort of totalitarian leader who can't see why you wouldn't agree with me. I get the impression that they are lots of subgroups and clicky mean girls on these forums which quite frankly I don't have time for and being predictable behaviour and ‘my way or the highway’ attitudes to weddings bores me. As I said in this episode you don't have to be a member of forums and the real gift is that there are so many great resources out there, forums and websites podcasts, you can choose to not participate and indulge nasty shit. To my surprise I did see a number of wedding vendor's participating in some pretty subpar behaviour on forums. Not great business moves in my opinion then perhaps it's a good reflection of who they are as people and how they choose to behave online in a very searchable way… I probably wouldn't be hiring after them reading some of the rubbish that they spurt, so perhaps they attract the people that they deserve. Yikes, my one hopes this episode is that I share a bit about my observations of these communities but also encourages again involved in online communities that suit you finding friends all over the world are organising their weddings, being able to share your highs and lows can be really supportive, it's just finding the right people.

233- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A- Live from the car!
Last week’s Q&A episode was recorded on a plane…this week? My studio is in a hire car in a Starbucks carpark while Rich is on a site visit (he is an Architect). No matter where I record the show, my focus is always on helping you my Bridechilla and Groomchilla friends! As well as a quick recap on our wonderful visit to Maui for Bridechilla Belinda’s wedding (my cousin), I also answer questions from Bridechilla Amy, who is having problems with family disharmony and how to get around having to be the meat in the problem sandwich and placating the drama when it comes to wedding invitations and who should attend their wedding. Bridechilla Lauren is pondering how to convince her parents that their friend will make a wonderful officiant for their wedding- I share some advice to help alleviate the parental concerns for having a friend marry them and to make sure they understand that they are ’taking the wedding seriously’. The Bridechilla App is coming soon. We’re very excited to share more info with you in the coming weeks!

229- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A
In this episode of the Bridechilla Podcast, I am happily joined by the fabulous Bridechilla graduate Erica who is also a wedding planner (Folie à Deux Events) and general all round cool chic. Bridechilla Jen and her husband is planning their vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary. They want this to be the wedding they never had, as they eloped at a very young age in a courthouse. However, everything online is telling Jen that she can't have certain things because she is already married and it is rude to treat this as a first time wedding. Bridechilla Jenna is wondering about the appropriate timing on sending out invitations after she has sent out Save the Dates for their destination wedding. I also talking about letting go of grudges and crappy feeling when it comes to your relationships that may impede your wedding planning. Don’t dwell, tell. We seen so much time simmering on our feelings when we should just get it out there and either clear the air or call it quits. I felt really empowered with this topic and I am keen to hear your thoughts.

228-Think like a Bridechilla Entrepreneur with Danielle Tate
For one of the biggest financial transactions in our lives, a lot of us don’t treat our wedding in a very business(y) way. We work hard for our money and hopefully find value and are mindful about the things that we invest in and spend our money on. On today’s show, I bring you an interview with an entrepreneur and author who I greatly admire, Danielle Tate. She is the founder and CEO of the name changing website MissNowMrs.com and the author of Elegant Entrepreneur, The Female Founders Guide to Starting & Growing Your First Company. Danielle shares insights in to shifting your perspective when it comes to planning your wedding by taking a business mindset and using it in tasks to make wedding planning easier and your money of further, such as - Project management and being organised- being honest about your own goals when it comes to what you want, not what you think you should want. How to self advocate, believe in your ideas and the processes that you set up. Problems are opportunities in disguise Reminding us that as a Bridechilla, you find opportunities and make situations work for you. Empowering you to build your Bridechilla team of helpers and allocate tasks. Getting off on the right foot and future planning for after the wedding Danielle shares her winning mantra ‘Never wish for it more than you work for it’, something I think we can use everyday, in wedding planning and life in general. Finally we enjoy some wonderful stories about name changes and the making sure you discuss whether or not you are planning to change your name before guests and family members order you a bunch of monogrammed gifts!

227- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A
What would a bridesmaid have to do to you to ditch them from your wedding? On today's Bridechilla Podcast, I share two stories from fellow Bridechillas who have been through some dramas with their bridesmaids and have decided to call it quits. As I explain in this episode, it's a big decision that will no doubt affect your friendship for years to come, so it's very important to be mindful of the consequences of such a move. Bridechilla Jen is living in Japan with her fiancé and is interested in learning about bilingual weddings and how to incorporate both of their cultures in their wedding service. I share some potentially unhelpful but fun ideas… Sorry Jen and also discuss how you can reverse engineered this scenario to share aspects of your culture or religion but not necessarily have to go full throttle. A big thanks from Rich and I took all of the lovely listeners who sent us suggestions and articles about how to tip when we are visiting the United States. Think we all agree, if in doubt really overdo the Australian accent.

226- Should you Change Your Name? The Feminist bride
The topic of name change after marriage is a much requested theme on the Bridechilla Podcast and I am delighted to welcome back Katrina from thefeministbride.com to talk about the choices that Bridechillas have when it comes to taking their partners name, creating a new name, hyphenating or keeping their maiden name. TheKnot.com surveyed nearly 19,000 women who got married last year and of those women, 86 % took their husband’s name. Katrina always pushes me to think about, as a feminist…(someone who strives for equality in all aspects of my life), my choices and choices made by those around me. Her last visit to the Bridechilla Podcast really motivated a lot of Bridechillas to question the inclusion of certain traditions and in some cases removed them from their weddings all together (hymen cake!). Today we talk about the reasons women cite for taking their spouse’s surname: some like the tradition of it, and others find it romantic. In some cases, it’s more important to their husbands, and some feel it will be more convenient once they have children. Some women even argue, counterintuitively, that taking their husband’s name is a feminist choice. I share some wonderful voice messages from Bridechillas Erin, Morgaene and Darcie who have thought very laterally when it comes to their name change choices. Whatever your decision, I know that this episode will empower you to make the choice that is right for you and get you thinking about alternatives and having the discussion with your partner (which I believe to be the most important step…not just having the assume that you will be changing your name). I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this episode.

225- Wedding Planning Q&A
Bridechilla Doriean is getting hitched in but a few weeks and would like some last minute advice about adding an interactive component to help friends and family who may not be able to make the big day. She also shares some insight into the tradition of jumping over the broom (the act symbolizes a new beginning and a sweeping away of the past, and can also signify the joining of two families)…something she wanted to research after hearing episode 169 with The Feminist Bride, who encouraged us all to research traditions that we wanted to use in our weddings. Anonymous Bridechilla is having trouble with her Dad and his insistence of inviting his cousins to their wedding. Does she battle or relent? Looking for alternative additions to their wedding Bridechilla Lelya and her fiancé Arie sent a message in hope of inspiration to add fun touches that won’t cost too much. Bridechilla Dylan is getting hitched in the next few weeks and wanted to let us know what episodes of the show floated her boat and helped her during the process. Finally Rich pops in… he’ll be co hosting an episode super soon!

224- The Wedding Virus
The Wedding Virus is a term that describes how all things love and marriage seem to spread like a virus across groups of friends and women regardless of location or status. Today on the Bridechilla Podcast I share a delightful half hour with fellow author and Aussie, Natalie Shell, who wrote a candid, fun and optimistic book that offers an insightful look into topics of love, engagement, weddings, sex and other scribbles about being a woman. The Wedding Virus & Other Snippets is a fictional work that offers an insightful look into the things we all think but don't say. Designed to be read in bite-sized pieces, much as you might eat candy—as little or as much as you can stomach—this collection is a must-read for anyone who has ever wanted love or caught and survived the wedding virus.

223- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A
SO much to love about Bridechilla Wedding planning Q&A, where I throw open the virtual bridesmaid advice giving doors and help you with your wedding planning questions! Bridechilla Jeni is being challenged by how to pick bridesmaids when you don’t necessarily have a lot of close lady friends and don’t want a big fuss made about you. How do you explain that to people? Bridechilla Suze isn’t really into all of the ‘weddingy stuff chair covers and silly wooden decorative hearts’…the cliched stuff. Suze attended her first wedding show recently, she went into it with expectations that it was going to be full of that stuff but actually had a pretty rad time! Anonymous Bridechilla asks about announcing their engagement when a close friend is now going through a divorce. Is it wrong to celebrate your happiness while a friend is going through such pain? I suggest reading this awesome and thoughtful essay taken from the perspective of author Laurel who went through a divorce at the same time as being a bridesmaid for her best friend. http://apracticalwedding.com/2016/07/divorce-and-friends-wedding/ Being a Bridechilla is about being mindful and trying to see things from different perspectives and this article is such a wonderful example of doing just that. Finally, Bridechilla Gabi has been planning her wedding in South Africa (from her home in the UK) and is battling some last minute issues about the guest list and her mother's insistence that she invite a bunch of her friends, when her venue is at capacity. How do you tell your Mum to back off and also is there a possibility that people won’t show?

222- Avoiding Wedding Loans and Debt
A topic that I am finding particularly scary at the moment in the world of weddings is the onset of wedding loans and financial institutions encouraging couples to put their wedding on the plastic fantastic… Credit cards and tailoring special loans for their big day. On the show, I welcome back a favourite guest of mine, the lovely Jessica from thebudgetsavvybride.com, to talk all about budgeting and the reality of going into debt to create your ‘dream’ wedding day. Dealing with a budget, and creating a budget in the first place, can be more stressful than most grown-up things. For many people the wedding is the first big budget item that you have to deal with and allocating funds, prioritising what is important to you, having to place value on fun items versus necessary items can be really hard. When it comes to budget many people forget adding a contingency into the plan and are then faced with big decisions even added expenses appear and there it have anything to pay for them with. it is situations like this that often lead to people taking extreme measures such as getting a loan or putting the expenses on a credit card. Jessica’s wedding blog is all about creating fabulous wedding day without the burden of debt and spending money that you may regret spending in the future. I personally think it is one of the best wedding blogs out there as it provides us with real examples of brides and grooms who have committed to staying on budget with wonderful results. If you are looking for inspiration within a specific budget then you must visit thebudgetsavvybride.com. I am continually impressed by the ingenuity that people display when it comes to making their financial situation work for them and having a fantastic wedding day. This episode is a must listen to anyone dealing with money and weddings… There is everyone, so don't miss it!

221- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A
As your virtual Bridesmaid, I am here to solve problems and answer your wedding planning questions like the one that Bridechilla Tiffany sent. She lives in Dallas, but is getting hitched in Detroit in December. She asks about candles, can she go budget-savvy or does she need to buy the expensive fancy candles? She would also love some advice from the Bridechilla community about seasonal weddings? Sarah is stuck in pre-engagement period with her partner and is looking for advice for how to not feel like she’s missing out on planning a wedding that she know will come eventually but wants it now. Bridechilla Molly is struggling with some rogue Bridechillas…how can she communicate how they are hurting her without being a diva? I also share some of my favourite podcast recommendations (a request went out on International Podcast Day recently) and here are some of yours! https://www.instagram.com/p/BK_uTy_Alh5/?taken-by=aleishamccormack

What to do? Get a faux ring as a place holder? Carry on regardless! Bridechilla Denise leaves an inspiring message about changing her name and her very forward thinking fiance who is changing his name after the wedding. 218- New Wedding and Honeymoon Destinations
In this episode of the Bridechilla Podcast, I get us all jealous for sunshine and sand as I talk weddings and honeymoons in tropical destinations with Megan and Rebecca from desitnationweddings.com. How getting hitched somewhere gorgeous and sometimes remote is the thing to do (and it will save you a bunch of cash)… personalisation with packages is super easy and I was surprised that Destination Weddings are still family-friendly with 88% of the weddings booked via destinationweddings.com include children. We decide in this interview that destinationweddings.com new tag line should be ‘Destinationwedings.com goodbye hanger on-ers…’ as planning a wedding away from home can be a great way to potentially ditch guests who are coming fro the free booze and canapés…you know that people whoa re willing to travel really want to be there to celebrate with you. We talk wedding apps, geo filters, custom hashtags…Couples are finding new ways to integrate technology in their destination wedding as they take advantage of things like 3D printing anything from cake toppers to the rings themselves. If you are considering planning a destination wedding, you might be surprised at how cost-friendly an option it is. When couples take their wedding on the road, they can uncover savings throughout many points in the planning process. Even those who aren’t necessarily seeking to trim expenses will find that they have extra room in their budget for upgrades and add-ons to enhance their experience. The Knot reports that the average at-home fête prices out at over $32,000 whereas the average cost for our customers has remained under $10,000 for over a decade. BAM.

216- Forum Bullies, Compromise & Bridechilla Wisdom
Bridechilla Grace is a true Bridechilla Graduate and today she co-hosts the show to share her wisdom and experience from her recent wedding. As a very savvy and organised bridechilla, Grace shares some amazing (and very practical) anecdotes about saving money and getting great deals on her wedding day. She ‘makes a case’ for hiring a day of wedding coordinator, who ‘swooped in and added a bunch of little details that we didn’t think of’. Creating an itinerary saved Grace’s sanity and also helped keep things moving on the wedding weekend and was a way for her to get her head around the process and also made it easier to hand over the planning elements to their wedding coordinator, without fuss. She exposes the B/S of ‘forum bullies’ of some wedding forums… mean girls who have nothing better to do that be jerks. Grace also shares her ups and downs of wedding planning, losing a family member while they are planning. Grace’s ‘ways to compromise’ suggestions are fabulous, she gave her Mum and her Aunt ownership over tasks that she wasn’t as interested in, like the cake and flowers. They were happy to feel involved and she didn’t have to micromanage things that they weren’t as passionate about. Each person took on specific elements that were important to them and everyone was happy.
