270- Things I Wish I Knew When Planning My Wedding
Hindsight is a marvellous thing especially when you are all done and dusted planning your wedding, like my super organised guest Bridechillla Graduate Christine. Christine married John in April 2017, in a bright and fabulous carnival themed extravaganza. Combining Christine’s Nigerian cultural heritage, they had a dramatic outfit change mid-wedding and worked thoroughly to include aspects and traditions from both of their backgrounds. Christine shares some of the most frustrating parts of their wedding planning, in particular, the lack of communication surrounding some vendors, with costs & timeframes, she also speaks candidly about how tough and un-fun wedding planning can be, in particular with family feedback and involvement, which as we all know, can get heavy fast. Christine is honest and super informative and I am delighted to share her story on the Bridechilla Podcast. Be sure to check out the accompanying blog post which features Christine’s top tips and photographs of their gorgeous wedding. Inspiration aplenty!

268- Finding ‘The Dress’- Adventures in Wedding Dress Shopping
Finding ‘The one’, the dress (or pantsuit, or tutu) that you wear to your wedding, for some brides is a piece of cake. For others, it can feel like a test given by the wedding gods to challenge your mental health and make you question everything you ever believed about tulle. Some brides might have been dreaming about the details of their dress for years- although as you will hear in this episode, a lot of those ladies have a big change of heart when they try on the ‘dream dress’ and realise it isn’t ‘the one’ at all and thus begins the existential dress crisis. A really enjoyable and knowledge packed episode of the Bridechilla Podcast, featuring wedding dress buying experts Danielle and Taylor from The Wedding Shoppe who both worked for years ‘on the floor’ as wedding dress advisors and have seen EVERYTHING.

267- Catalyst Wedding Magazine
I know a lot of Bridechilla listeners struggle with the idea of balancing their feminist beliefs and planning their wedding day with all of the wonderful details and traditions. I’m delighted to be joined by Liz Susong Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Catalyst magazine (who seemed to have had a very similar wedding experience to me!). Catalyst Magazine is the first-ever print wedding magazine with a feminist consciousness, and they regularly host events to increase diverse representation in the wedding industry like their traveling workshop {un}convention, which I recently attended in London. In this show we talk about the challenges of the wedding industry and encouraging inclusion for all people, minorities, gender, relationships, talking about divorce and second (and third) marriages. We talk about the path diversifying representation (so many white, blonde brides on the cover of wedding mags!?), challenging gendered roles and standing for equal rights. We also look at the cycle of stress that a lot of couples become a part of. We’re all stressed and trying to juggle a million things, which everyone deals with in different ways. Liz shares her thoughts on being mindful, knowing your stress triggers and being present during the process (and your wedding day). "Catalyst Wedding Magazine is the answer to our feminist prayers.” Huffpost

266- How to find the right wedding planner
Hiring a wedding planner or coordinator can be a wonderful investment. Having someone there to assist and guide you through the big decisions who know she process, who is well connected and has been there and done that, over and over again, is a a gift that many couples won’t appreciate until they kick off their wedding planning and start to realise just who potentially complicate and stressful it can all be. My guest on today’s show is Kylie Carlson, the Director for the UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning. With over 3000 graduates from 6 countries, Kylie is the global leader in wedding planning and event styling education AKA you want this lady (and her students) as your wedding planner! We talk about connecting with your vendors, how to know if you will be a great fit for each other and making sure that you do your homework and push for referrals and testimonials if you are at all hesitant or just want to learn more about their work. As Kylie says, ’It’s your wedding, make sure you ask the questions…you have a right to.’ Kylie is a big advocate of training and accreditation for wedding professionals (lots of professionals don’t have accreditation) and highlights the importance of trust and when it comes to handing over your hard earned money, to to mention the responsibility of planning your wedding to a stranger, so you want to make sure you make the right choice. Kylie’s candid advice and years of experience makes this episode a jam packed listen for all couples regardless of whether you have hired a wedding planner (although by the end of the episode, I am sure you will be considering it! Kylie also hosts a podcast series which is resource for the aspiring, new and experienced wedding professionals. It’s a great episode and I look forward to having Kylie back on The Bridechilla Podcast again soon!

265- I am Bride with Laura Willcox
‘Like a beautiful butterfly emerging from a homely cocoon, the moment a person gets engaged they blossom from a run-of-the-mill human into a bride-to-be. A bride is a true dictator, her wedding her totalitarian state. And that is exactly as it should be.’ This week I am joined by comedian Laura Willcox who, in her book ‘I am Bride’ writes in the voice of an overbearing, outrageous wedding planner covering all aspects of a wedding—from maximising jealousy when you announce your engagement on social media, to establishing yourself as the alpha over your bridesmaids, to preventing your groom from ruining your wedding by having any opinions at all, and so much more. Her refreshing take on all things bride will turn tradition on its head, and have you rolling your eyes and reading passages out loud to your peeps Laura has created a hilarious book which is a perfect gift for the friend who can’t stop pinning to her dream wedding board, the maidchilla currently feeling the wrath of her friend-turned-bridezilla, or any bridechilla who would benefit from a much-needed break from the stress and madness of wedding planning.

264- Mahalo- Lessons from a Destination Wedding .output.aifUntitled Episode
Last November we were lucky enough to fly to Maui, in Hawaii to celebrate Belinda and Luke’s wedding. Belinda is my cousin and bestie who has appeared on the Bridechilla Podcast in the lead up to their wedding- she’s laid back and funny and so many Bridechilla listeners commented and got in touch after hearing her relaxed and down to earth perspective on her own wedding planning, after her first appearance. Today we recap their wedding week, what they learned from the experience and how they feel in retrospect about planning a destination wedding from a far, with a bunch of guests from all over the world. We talk traditions, meaningful details, wedding planners and how really focusing on incorporating genuine aspects of who you are as a couple, leads to an awesome day. Please be warned, I was in the midst of a terrible head cold, recording this episode, so I do sound like a husky old broad!

263- Weddings- Who pays for what?
Talking about money is not always easy- in any facet of our lives. Most of us aren’t raised to speak openly about what we are spending our money on and how much we earn and it can be hard to ask friends and family to contribute financially to things and talk openly about cash. So, when it comes to weddings, there is so much to pay for (SO MUCH) and it can often be difficult to figure out who is responsible for paying for what. From splitting costs with parents to Bridesmaids and Groomsman’s attire, often the hardest conversations you will have in your planning adventures figuring out how to talk about the expense of it all. If you can conquer your budget and the money talk, I guarantee your wedding planing will be 100% easier. Knowing where you stand, who is paying for what and how it is all going to play out will leave you so much calmer and prepared and far outweigh the temporary awkwardness, some of us feel about speaking about money. Today I am joined by my lovely friend Cristina from Plantheday.com who joins me to co-host the show and shares her insight and experience on this subject. Cristina is offering a fabulous 50% off plantheday membership. Visit this link http://bit.ly/ptdbcp and use the codeword- Bridechilla!

262- 18 Wedding Planning Truths- Best Of
I have been a little under the weather this week and have lot my voice so instead of heating croaky McCroke on the show, I present to you this Best of Bridechilla episode! I’ve been working on my new book… which is all being a bridechilla (of course) and I started to create a list of wedding planning truths, things that will just happen when you are wedding planning and basically the sooner we accept them the sooner we can get over them and move on. As soon as I finish the list I realised this would be a great podcast topic. In this episode I cover everything from… the gargantuan amount of wedding dresses on offer that all seem to look the same, why I believe wedding magazines are on the way out, how to avoid getting sucked into creating an over the top themed, extravaganza wedding and your inevitable move into becoming a bridechilla politician, one of the many hats that you will wear over your wedding planning time.

261- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A- with Rich
Groomchilla OG Rich (Aleisha’s hubby) co-hosts the show this episode. Bridechilla Mallory booked her venue in winter (when it was covered in snow) and now upon her return sans snow, there is a big fat ditch where they aisle will be! What to do? We talk overseas tipping. Bridechilla Jillian is getting hitched in Italy and wants to know if she should tip? She’s been given a bunch of different advice…so we text a friend…literally. What can Bridechillas give their partner as a celebration of them getting engaged? Ladies get a ring, so what do guys get? Do they need anything or is it just another way for us to hemorrhage money while planning? Bridechilla Ellie is at her one-year countdown of their wedding…she’s very organised but would like some tips on where to start locking things in at this big countdown moment. Kim’s planning a sex marriage and her mother-in-law is stuck on the idea that Brides should wear dresses…how do they shift her perspective?

260- Don't plan a wedding- plan a lifetime
Weddings and parties are great but as today’s guest, Shawn Miller says ‘what good is an amazing wedding without an amazing marriage to back it up?’. I love talking about all of the details about weddings but hopefully by now you have also become aware that the Bridechilla Podcast is all about focusing on relationships and communication- all the stuff that is emotionally connected to planning a wedding and beyond. My guest, Shawn Miller (along with his wife Erica) is the founder of Young Hip & Married—he also happens to be one of their officiants and is a qualified life coach. As well has marrying people, Shawn and Erica run relationship and pre-marital coaching programs that help couples discover the strengths in their relationship and discover how to get the most out of them. Most people spend more time training for the job than they do for their marriage and I know that this episode will encourage you to invest some time into the success of your marriage by dedicating time and energy to not just wedding planning but also your relationship and the future.

256- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A Monday!
The one thing we can’t do, as much as it would be helpful (but perhaps a tad totalitarian and evil) is control other people and how they feel and act. A lot of questions that we receive on the Bridechilla Podcast are about how other people are reacting and communicating during YOUR wedding planning…how their behaviour is making your life unnecessarily stressful. We feel obligation and pressure to make choices that don’t fit with our plans or ‘dreams’. It can be hard. Today on the podcast, Bridechilla Geneva is having trouble with her in-laws who appear to be confused about how they feel about the wedding all together- how long should Geneva and her partner put up with flakiness for and how should they communicate their disappointment to really make sure her in-laws understand how much their actions are troubling them? Bridechilla Brittney is having trouble with an unlucky in love Bridesmaid who seems to be acting out, perhaps deflecting feelings about her own relationship issues and instead taking away from Brittney’s celebrations. After giving her parents and in-laws a 50 people cap on their guest list, Bridechilla Aleigha is finding herself deep in guest list dramas- oh and also her Dad has a new girlfriend, who he’s like to bring as a date to the wedding! FUN. Lastly Bridechilla Taleen wants some advice about asking for cash as a wedding gift. Can you do it in a polite way?

255- A Weddiculous Bridechilla with Jamie Lee
ridechilla, Comedian and Girl Code star Jamie Lee joins me on the Podcast to share some marvels from her new wedding planning book Weddiculous. She brings her first-hand experiences and hilarious hard-won insights that totally earns her a Bridechilla gold badge. Putting the madness into perspective, Jamie and I talk all about how the label of Bridezilla should be finally retired, how to juggle having a life and planning your wedding and why there is someone that is always in need of the attention (and big hint, it 99% of the time is not the bride). Weddiculous includes helpful checklists, timelines, and suggestions on everything from what questions to ask vendors to how to handle difficult bridesmaids to what’s worth the extra cost (and more importantly, what’s not). Throughout, Jamie provides guidance on when you should trust your gut and when you may want to listen to others. What Amy Sedaris has done for hospitality and crafting, Jamie Lee now does for weddings. Weddiculous will help keep you calm and focused on what’s really important about your wedding day. http://www.weddiculousbook.com/

254- Bridechilla Body Image: Your Response
I am so happy and PROUD that the Bridechilla community came out on droves to to share your feedback, stories and personal responses to my recent body image episode (ep 248), so in saying that, today’s Bridechilla Podcast is all about you! I received an enormous amount of emails and voice messages from you all, from all over the world, which made me smile, shrug, laugh and want to come and hug every one of you for your honesty, compassion and strength. Body image issues and perception is an ongoing conversation that we should be talking about way more often in the press. As I am reminded in this episode, it’s not just an issue that effects women and it is certainly not an issue that ends with your wedding. A big thank you to everyone who is featured on the show today and a shout out to trainer Arthur Kiyaga who shared his perspective from a fitness professional and gentleman’s point of view. 253- Badass Bridechilla OGs
Every second Wednesday I am lucky enough to share an hour with today’s guests Cristina and Kristen. They are my friends and fellow wedding business ladies. We meet on Skype to share ideas, inspirations and ways to serve our Bridechillas better. I am excited to have both of them on the show together….we joked that we are Bridechilla OGs….Original Gangsta’s of the Bridal business, breaking the rules and smack talking traditions and feeling stressed. In this episode we talk about post engagement stress, the pressure you feel to instantly have all of the answers, when you really just want to feel the joy of being in love (not giving people dates and details). We also talk about money and the challenge that some couples can feel talking about money in new relationships. I loved recording this episode! I hope you enjoy it too….I’m looking forward to our next show together. Cristina is the founder of https://www.plantheday.com/ …Plan The Day Helps Brides Eliminate Wedding Stress by keeping wedding information all in one place. Bridechilla Brittany (who is also the founder of the fabulous Bridal accessories rental company Happily Ever Borrowed) is getting hitched and has graciously agreed to share her wedding planning journey over the next 12 months. In this episode we hear all about Brittany and Ben’s proposal story, how she (like me) juggles a full time job and her side hustle AND wedding planning. We also talk about parental expectations… Brittany shares a hilarious story about her Mums deep interest in her hair length for the wedding (and knowledge of updos) and also being a very efficient Bridechilla Brittany and having lots of details already planned, is struggling to give her family and friends things to do to help out. I am so looking forward to sharing Brittany’s wedding planning with the Bridechilla community.

BEST OF: 210- A Practical Wedding with Meg Keene
*Episode 210*- It’s the Bridechilla Best of, where I share with you some of my favourite episodes of the show. I knew I was going to get along with today’s guest when I visited her personal website and the first thing I read was a quote… ‘A Diva is the female version of a hustler’ Meg Keene is the founder of the fabulous website A Practical Wedding. She ‘turned a love of glitter and feminism’ into one of the fastest growing wedding brands in the world. I am such a fan and it is a massive pleasure to have her on the show today to talk all things, weddings, feminism, tinder and her brand spanking new book, A Practical Wedding Planner: Planning The Wedding You Want With The Budget You've Got (Without Losing Your Mind In The Process).

251- Bridechilla Wedding Planning Q&A
Bridechilla Simone is looking for advice about music for smaller weddings. Should they book a DJ for their wedding pf 30 people? Is it weird? Bridechilla Morgan is not only hilarious she is a true member of our Bridechilla community...her voice message hits on so many points about traditions, wedding forum psychos and how frustrating (and ridiculous) it can be to be pressured to make decisions immediately…guaranteed enjoyment here! Finally Bridechilla Lauren has an update on her conundrum with using a friend as an officiant- did she find a compromise with her parents (who were dead against them having a friend marry them)?
