MOVIE - The Andy Griffith Show - Christmas Story (12-19-60)

MOVIE - The Andy Griffith Show - Christmas Story (Aired December 19, 1960)
The Andy Griffith Show is an American sitcom first televised by CBS between October 3, 1960 and April 1, 1968. Andy Griffith portrays a widowed sheriff in a fictional small community of Mayberry, North Carolina. His life is complicated by an inept but well-meaning deputy, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), a spinster aunt and housekeeper, Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and a young son, Opie (Ron Howard, billed as Ronny). Local ne'er-do-wells, bumbling pals, and temperamental girlfriends further complicate his life. Though neither Griffith nor the show won awards during its eight season run, series co-stars Knotts and Bavier accumulated a combined total of six Emmy Awards. THIS EPISODE: "Christmas Story (19 December 1960)" It's Christmas-time and Mayberry has its own version of Ebenezer Scrooge in the form of department store owner Ben Weaver. When Ben catches Sam Muggins with moonshine, he insists that Andy arrest him and threatens to report him if Sam is released for the holidays. Since Sam can't go home for Christmas, they decide to bring Christmas to Sam by moving the holiday celebrations to the jail. Aunt Bee, Opie, Andy, Ellie and Barney - who gets to play Santa Claus - all contribute to making the holidays a happy one for everyone concerned. As it turns out, Ben does have a heart after all even if he does take a round about way of showing it. Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, Don Knotts (Santa Claus), Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee Taylor,) Elinor Donahue (Ellie Walker,) Will Wright (Ben Weaver.) Frank Tarloff (Writer) Directed by Bob Sweeney.
