Shane and I have a chance to talk about his experience at the WGC Bridgestone when his client Shane Lowry came away with the win.
Shane wasn't even there for the final hole, he had a plane to catch to get to Whistling Straights to prep for the PGA Championship.  He tells the story of watching online and trying to keep up with the scores online between flights.
We discuss some of the comments made on the telecast inferring that Shane Lowry "[clearly doesn't put in much time at the gym]," which Shane has some opinions about ;-)
The team surrounding the players is a big part of Shane's philosophy a golfer reaching his maximal potential.  When you have a good team that communicates well, it's much easier for that player to play his best golf.
We discuss some of the concerns that many individuals have when debating chiropractic treatment:

Will I need to continue going for ever?
Is it just cracking and popping?
What about manipulating the neck? Am I at risk for a stroke?

Search to Social Ads: How to Use Google With Facebook to Build Niche Audiences

Does your business serve a specialized customer base? Wondering how to reach specific niche audiences with Facebook ads? To explore a strategy for retargeting specialized audiences using Google ads in combination with Facebook ads, I interview Shane Sams. More About This Show The Social Media Marketing podcast is an on-demand talk radio show from Social Media Examiner. It's designed to help busy marketers and business owners discover what works with social media marketing. In this episode, I interview Shane Sams, the co-host of the Flipped Lifestyle podcast, a show focused on helping families make money online. He describes himself as a normal guy from Kentucky who loves helping others. He's also the founder of the Flip Your Life Community. Shane explains how to use website traffic generated by Google ads to retarget Facebook users. You'll discover how highly focused keywords help manage your marketing costs. Share your feedback, read the show notes, and get the links mentioned in this episode below. Listen Now Here are some of the things you'll discover in this show: Search to Social Ads Shane's Story Shane and his wife Jocelyn met at the University of Kentucky. After graduation, Jocelyn initially worked a corporate job and Shane coached football. They then decided to become schoolteachers, which they did for about 10 years. Shane taught social studies and continued to coach, while Jocelyn was an elementary school librarian. After some bad experiences at work, Shane realized he had traded control of his life for job security. He started looking for other things to do because he knew there had to be a better way. This was in 2012. One day, as Shane and his wife were driving around town, Shane said, "I wonder if I can get 100 people to send me $50." She asked what he was talking about and Shane said that out of the 7 billion people on the planet, surely 100 would give him $50. If they all did that in a month, it would be $5,000, and for 12 months in a row, it would be $60,000. If they could do that every month, they could quit teaching. Shane didn't know how he was going to make this money but he was determined to figure it out. He began seeking information about business. One day while mowing the grass, Shane decided to look up business podcasts. An image of a guy looking at the podcast art with his eyeballs caught Shane's attention. It was Smart Passive Income with Pat Flynn. In the podcast, Pat talked about how he sold a study guide and would email it to people. Shane decided he and Jocelyn could sell PDFs of information. After trying different things online, they were finally able to figure it out. They sold lesson plans to teachers and football playbooks to coaches. A year later, Shane and Jocelyn replaced their income. As soon as they quit their jobs (which they did on September 27, 2013), people started asking questions. For example, Lindsay, a friend of Jocelyn's, quit her job to be a stay-at-home mom and wanted advice on making money online. They helped Lindsay create digital products and she made $1,000 on the Internet in a month. This money enabled Lindsay to be at home with her daughter every day. After Shane and Jocelyn realized their experience and knowledge could change the lives of others, they started Flipped Lifestyle. It has helped a lot of people. People ask why it's called Flipped Lifestyle. Shane explains that everybody flipped out after Jocelyn and he left their jobs, where they had tenure and insurance. Shane recalls how his mom cornered him and said, "Shane Sams, you have babies. You have lost your mind. You have flipped out. And I do not approve of this decision." Hence, Flipped Lifestyle. Listen to the show to hear Shane recall how much sharing online business skills meant to his friends. Why Combine Google Ads With Facebook? Early on, Shane and Jocelyn discovered a lot of the marketing advice available online didn't work for ...

Meet Episode 53’s Guest, Shane Farmer
Shane Farmer and I first met in 2010 at an athletic certification in the field house at USD. Immediately, he stood out because of his height but also because of his passion for rowing.

As the next couple years went by, I found myself training at CrossFit Invictus in downtown San Diego. It turned out that Shane was one of the coaches there. He taught me a lot about how to be a more efficient athlete. Over the years, we also watched each other begin to sprout as budding entrepreneurs.

It's been really cool to see where Shane has taken his own business. (Spoiler: He's tried a variety of things but has settled on where his talents and passions overlap.) In many ways, we've walked a parallel path and experienced the same struggles.

In this episode, Shane shares his perspective on making "the leap" into doing something you love and following your dreams. Plus, there's a great segment about how you can improve your rowing technique, even if you're a beginner.

Be sure to grab his Free 5 Days to Better Rowing Guide, too.

In This Episode of Harder to Kill Radio, You’ll Learn:

Shane's superhero origin story, including his unlikely path to rowing
How the power of habit and finding the thing that lights your fire can cause a domino effect in your life
What it was like to reach the pinnacle of athletic performance
Shane's insight about pursuing what you're passionate about
Why Shane started coaching and what he learned about it later
Advice for reframing the situation you're in if you're unhappy
Shane's top 3 tips for rowing that will boost your confidence and efficiency

314: Shane Snow | Smart Cuts

Lateral Thinking Solves Problems Better.

"If you truly love life, don't waste time because time is what life is made of." - Bruce Lee

The Cheat Sheet: Facebook and The Death Star: we compare. (18:40) The 3 ways to change on a micro level. (19:50) Skeptical optimism: what it is and why it is a powerful habit. (26:00) The Charlie Rose technique: how and when to use and why it's effective. (37:50) What ben franklin has to do with all of this. (39:40) The 5 second rule to overcoming your fears. (51:00) And so much more...

If you wrote for Wired or Fast Company, do you think you'd find innovative ways of living and working? The answer is yes, of course you would! And our guest for episode 314 does just that.

Shane Snow, author of Smart Cuts, is also a writer for these notable tech publications and he's here with us to share what lateral thinking is, how to use it for greater innovation in every area of your life and how to use neurotic spreadsheeting to make your life rock.

Try Squarespace for free and help support The Art of Charm!

More About This Show:

Shane Snow is a whiz at finding out what makes people go against the grain and think in ways the average person doesn't. He's explored and studied this topic in depth, it's the theme of his book Smart Cuts. He's even coined a phrase for it called "lateral thinking". He says lateral thinking is reframing problems in such a way that you come up with different rules or you rearrange the pieces in new ways and see new things as a result. In short, lateral thinking about a topic is "Macgyvering" it: seeing a solution that is completely out of the box.

In this show, we go into detail on how to create habits of lateral thinking as suggested by Shane. One of his primary moves is to create what he calls "neurotic spreadsheets". These spreadsheets list your problem and then every possible assumption about that problem. Then list the answer to the question: what if this assumption weren't true? This will help you create a detailed, neurotic spreadsheet about your situation.

Later in the show, Shane and I revisit neurotic spreadsheeting and apply it to discovering why someone was the best and why. Shane did this for former US presidents and his results were startling. He looked at multiple factors like who had the highest approval rating, how much time they spent in Congress, etc. He shares his findings with us - it's really interesting!

Neurotic spreadsheeting is just one component of how to create lateral thinking habits. Another, perhaps easier, way to do this is by simply asking the question "Why?" -And not in an annoying way but getting to the bottom of why something has been done a certain way can help us reframe how we look at it. This line of thinking and questioning in business will help us to break convention and create innovative solutions, where others can't or don't see those solutions.

Although we cover much more on this show, one final piece of advice Simon had for us is his 5 second rule. It goes like this: you have five seconds to do something or agree to do something, even if you are afraid of doing it. Are you afraid to speak in public, but you were just offered an incredible keynote opportunity? You have five seconds to say yes.

When you do this often enough, you'll eventually stop being afraid of what you're agreeing to and become far more afraid of breaking your word to yourself and letting yourself down. You can apply this to any area of your life from your career to your love life. Too afraid to ask her out? Use the five second rule: give yourself til the count of five and then go ask. This is something Shane uses daily and it's made a world of difference what he takes on.

Shane and I cover a lot of ground in this episode, he was an awesome guest to have with us. His lateral thinking approach, his habit of skeptical optimism are additional powerful topics we touch on. Be sure to listen and then start implementing his Smart Cuts' suggestions. We'll see you next time.

THANKS SHANE!

Episode 9: New Orleans Advocate's Brett Dawson

On this episode of Posting Up, host Tim Bontemps and Brett Dawson from the New Orleans Advocate discuss Dawson's old job covering major college hoops - including nearly a decade covering Kentucky - and his new one covering Anthony Davis and the Pelicans. The two begin the podcast with a lengthy discussion of Dawson's equally lengthy career covering elite college basketball over the past 15 years, which he split between several years covering Illinois -- including when Deron Williams led them to the national championship game -- and then nearly a decade covering the Kentucky Wildcats, including the final year of Tubby Smith's tenure, the wild and crazy Billy Gillispie Era and the glitz and glamour of the past several seasons as the program has been led by John Calipari. After discussing all that went into Calipari's reign over the program, including his possible return to the NBA and the many current stars that went through the program during Dawson's time covering it, the podcast shifts into talking about the Pelicans, featuring a lengthy discussion of Anthony Davis and what, if any, current players on the team fit as future pieces to grow with him moving forward. The two also break down the complicated dynamic involving the messy New Orleans ownership situation, and how that and many other key decisions over the next few months could make 2016 a pivotal year for the franchise.

ep 31: Shane Dawson Pt. 1

For all that YouTube sensation Shane Dawson talks about his "dark side," he's pretty f*cking hilarious. Nothing is off-limits when he stops by Anna's house for a riveting--and raunchy discussion--of topics including his recurring sexual nightmare and fantasy celeb sex tape participants. Later, Anna, Sim and Shane explore the ephemeral nature of celebrity, and Shane shares his unique perspective on digital media stardom. Anna also nails the role of Shane's mom in an improv scene that will have you laughing out loud. Oh, and we promise that after listening to this episode, you'll never look at ranch dressing the same way again!

Episode 171 – Shane Harris – Cyber warfare is perhaps the greatest threat to national security

Shane Harris - Cyber warfare is the greatest threat to national security. @War: The Rise of the Military-Internet Complex "Readers will squirm as they learn how every communications enterprise (Google, AT&T, Verizon, Facebook) cooperates with the national security establishment. Harris delivers a convincing account of the terrible cyber-disasters that loom, and the intrusive nature of the fight to prevent them." -Publishers Weekly The United States military currently views cyberspace as the “fifth domain” of warfare (alongside land, air, sea, and space), and the Department of Defense, the National Security Agency, and the CIA all field teams of hackers who can, and do, launch computer virus strikes against enemy targets. In fact, U.S. hackers were crucial to our victory in Iraq. In this episode of Smart People Podcast, author and journalist Shane Harris takes us to the front lines of America’s new cyber war as we discuss his newest book, @War: The Rise of the Military-Internet Complex.  As recent revelations have shown, government agencies are joining with tech giants like Google and Facebook to collect vast amounts of information. The military has also formed a new alliance with tech and finance companies to patrol cyberspace, and Harris offers a deeper glimpse into this partnership than we have ever seen before. Finally, Harris explains what the new cyber security regime means for all of us, who spend our daily lives bound to the Internet — and are vulnerable to its dangers. Shane Harris is a Sr. Intelligence and National Security Correspondent for The Daily Beast and an ASU Future of War Fellow at the New America Foundation. Prior to joining The Daily Beast, Shane was a senior writer at Foreign Policy magazine. He has also written for Washingtonian Magazine, the National Journal and Government Executive Magazine. Shane is the 2010 winner of the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense. He has been a finalist four times for the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists, which honor the best reporters in America under 35. He graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.A. in Politics in 1998. "China is taking thousands and thousands of hackers working around the clock and trying to break into as many corporations and government agencies in the US as they possibly can." - Shane Harris Quotes from Shane Harris:  What we learn in this episode: What are the origins of the military internet complex? What was the beginning of cyber warfare?  What kind of data is the government allowed to gather and what protection do citizens have? What information are the Chinese targeting when they hack into corporate networks? The Dawson's Creek Principle

"Now that I’m fully aware of this principle, I look for its application whenever I’m watching football. Whenever a player scores a tremendous goal, I now count back two or three passes in the move to find out who might have been covertly responsible. It’s an approach that I wouldn’t have taken, had it not been for watching Dawson’s Creek; and so if any of you are willing to have a similar epiphany, I advise you — when no one’s looking — to pick up the DVD." In Episode Seventy Seven of the Blizzard Podcast we look back to 'The Dawson's Creek Principle' by Musa Okwonga, first published in Issue Three back in December 2011. Could it be that a US teen drama, essentially Adrian Mole if filmed by MTV, could explain a facet of modern football? Do you find yourself drawn to a team's 'star player' while all the while thinking that another, unheralded player should be taking all the plaudits and top billing? Does your side have a Pacey Witter to its Dawson Leery? If you have any feedback comments or suggestions email podcast@theblizzard.co.uk or find us on Twitter @blzzrd. Issue Three, like all issues of The Blizzard, is available on a pay-what-you-like basis from www.theblizzard.co.uk. Digital downloads cost as little as 1p each (RRP £3), while the print edition has sadly sold out. You can also find us on the Kindle and Google Play stores.

SFP Interview: Castoffs from Episode 5 of Survivor Philippines

This week we interviewed Dana Lambert and Sarah Dawson. They left the game in episode 5 of Survivor Philippines. At one point Dana appeared to be in control of the women's alliance on Kalabaw, but she ended up taking herself out of the game for medical reasons. Dawson was a kooky character that will likely be remembered for not using a valuable secret about Jeff Kent and for embracing and kissing Jeff Probst.

Listen to this interview to hear why Dawson did not reveal Jeff Kent's secret, more details on Dana's illness, which arrogant guy was their number one target and lots more!

Exile Island Episode 2

Hi Survivor Fans,

Once again, an episode packed with surprises and twists!

Well, it appears we have our first villian/moron/drama queen of the season. Shane the ADD poster child and self professed 12 year old was on display for this episode. Oh yeah, he's also a quitter. Who would you choose to keep Melinda or Shane? Do you think it would really be that hard to drop bipolar Shane and pick up an alternate 4th for the alliance?

Here's our new teams.
La Mina: Terry, Sally, Austin, Misty, Nick, Ruth Marie, and Dan
Casaya: Danielle, Shane, Courtney, Aras, Cirie, Bobby, Bruce

Were you impressed with Bruce's "Ka-ra-te" skills. Looks like it really helped him out on exile island. Maybe he was feeling a little insecure after not being picked for a team. Do you think he ever got fire?

What's with these Survivors and fire. It's starting to look like there's only one or two people that can start a fire with flint and steel, and they've already voted one of them off.

Did anybody ascertain exactly where the hidden immunity idol really is now? We didn't really think there was any new, useful information for the viewers.

Jo Ann says Shane will be the next to go. Stacy says it will be a wounded Dan.

Who's your choice for the next to leave Exile Island?

Thanks for all the great participation in last week's LF show. We're hoping we'll hear from even more of you this week. :)

The first song is dedicated to Aras, Courtney, Danielle, and Shane. The last song is dedicated to Shane. He desperately needs a dose of something to pull him out of his funk. Here's a link to the artists in case you want to learn more about them.
