Welcome to the Season 8 premier of the College Recruiting Weekly podcast!
On this show, we talk about three things that coaches need to remember to focus on as they start the recruiting process for this current class of prospects, and discuss "the theatre of status in recruiting" - what your athlete perceives, and believes, about you. And, how to better manage and define that for them.
Join Dan Tudor as he discusses this next level idea with you, and make sure to subscribe to get all of this season's new episodes ready to play right away when they're released!
Thanks for listening, Coach. -
Coach, how's your summer recruiting going?
More importantly: How is your summer planning going as you look ahead to the start of the fall?
Both of those topics were brought up by the coach who is the guest on this podcast - he's a basketball coach who called and had questions about the summer, what or what not to do with visits, and planning for the new recruiting class as it relates to handling the volume of recruits that some programs deal with at the start of the process.
If you need help with other questions YOU have this summer - or want to access any of the resources we talk about on the podcast - visit dantudor.com or email the host at [email protected].

On this episode, Dan Tudor talks in detail about the right kind of structure to build your June 15th or first contact calls and messages to new prospects around.
June 15th, for many coaches and programs, has become the most important initial date of new contact with the next recruiting class, and because it's such a competitive start to the cycle, it's important coaches approach it correctly.
This episode is a must-listen for coaches preparing to contact their next class of recruits.

What an incredible conversation we're bringing you on this episode of the College Recruiting Weekly Podcast!
We talked to Coach Dan Buehring, Head Men's Volleyball Coach at Stevens Institute of Technology who - at the time of our conversation that you'll be listening to - had just won the Division III national title less than 48 hours earlier.
With everything fresh on his mind, we sat down and talked with Coach Buehring about everything: How he was feeling, was it what he imagined it to be, how he overcame obstacles during the season, how he managed his team and individual stars...top to bottom, you'll get an inside look of what one coach's experience was like. And, what his season can teach you about winning with your program.
We hope you enjoy this special conversation!

On this episode we bring back a popular expert and former college wrestling champion, Jim Harshaw, the host of the popular "Success Through Failure" podcast.
Jim was a guest way back in 2017 on Episode 18 of our podcast, and we brought him back to talk about what he's learned from 400 conversations about the topic on his podcast featuring athletes, coaches, executives and celebrities.
He will outline key principles any coach can use to achieve through learning from failure, and will give you seven people who exemplify that strategy.
It's an amazingly insightful conversation, and we think you'll take away a lot from it!

On this week's episode, Dan Tudor outlines his thoughts on what makes effective recruiting messaging work, and how important it is for college coaches to understand how the medium you deliver the message through is vital to whether or not it's effective.

Have you ever had prospects you were really interested in, and previously communicating with, just drop off the face of the Earth? Stop replying to texts? Won't answer their phone?
Of course you have.
The big question to this all-to-common recruiting hurdle is, "how do you reinitiate contact and get things going again?"
In this episode, Dan Tudor explains why this is likely happening, how to identify the right strategy moving forward, and how to execute that strategy.
This could be a game changer for some of you - we hope you enjoy it! -
In this episode, we listen in to part of Dan Tudor's two hour keynote talk at the USA Triathlon coaches convention, where he lays out the building blocks for constructing an effective recruiting message that tells the 'story' of your program.
This generation of teenage prospects buy into marketing messages IF they buy into the story, and how they identify with it. The same process holds true when they make their recruiting decisions. In this 40 minute segment, Dan goes over exactly what to factor into the story you construct for recruits.

The transfer portal has shaken up the college recruiting world, and the coaches who are trying to manage the process.
So, how should coaches approach successfully implementing the transfer portal into their recruiting plan on a year to year basis?
As a follow-up to Episode 139, where we listened into Dan Tudor's speech to coaches at a convention on the topic of "Maximizing Your Transfer Portal Recruiting", Dan joined Mandy Green's monthly 'Recruiting Made Simple' coaches group, which is a part of her successful Busy Coach program. Dan talks about all aspects of transfer portal recruiting with a group of college coaches, and the information outlined should be able to help any coach develop an effective plan for transfers in their program.

Happy New Year, Coach!
As we start 2023, I thought it'd be good to talk about two things with you on this episode of the College Recruiting Weekly podcast:
Gaining a better outlook on your job as a college coach and recruiter, and developing a better personal brand that can help propel you through your career...and, help your recruits understand who you are in a more complete, more personal way.
The man we've called on to help us do that to start the new year is former college coach, and current branding expert and leadership coach, Hernando Planells.
To get a better idea of who Coach Planells is, and what he's all about, you really need to see him in action online - he's one of my favorite social media follows because he brings a ton of positivity and perspective, but through a coaching eye...he's done the job that you do, and knows how to speak to the challenges of the job as well as anyone.
Go to his website at hernandoplanells.com to see how he helps coaches and athletic departments, and make sure to follow him on Instagram at coachhpjr. You won't be disappointed.
Hope this helps to give you ideas on how to move forward in the new year, and work on your personal brand!
Thanks for listening, and make sure to subscribe and tell no less than 10 other coaches in your department about the podcast. That's an order. -
As a follow-up to Episode 138, Dan Tudor continues his series of recruiting talks at the 2022 U.S. Track and Field Coaches convention by giving an interesting and timely overview of how programs are using the NCAA Transfer Portal to build their programs.
In addition, Dan outlines ways to prevent your own athletes from entering the portal through ongoing recruiting, communication and connection.
Listen in as he does his talk in front of coaches in attendance, and afterwards make sure to subscribe to the College Recruiting Weekly podcast, rate and review the podcast, and bring us your questions by email [email protected].

In this episode, we'll listen live to Dan Tudor as he presents his "5 Post-COVID Recruiting Trends" talk at the 2022 U.S. Track and Field Coaches convention.
Coming out of the pandemic, coaches have noticed something is different about the way prospects are going through the process, and making decisions.
Why? And what do coaches need to do differently to account for the shift in perspectives and attitudes that their recruits are brining to the conversation?
Listen in and find out! And, don't forget to tell at least 20 other coaches in your athletic department about the podcast. Leaving a 5-star review wouldn't be such a bad thing either.
Thank you, Coach! And by the way, if you have questions, email Dan at [email protected]. -
What's the right way to approach building something from scratch?
That's something that a lot of coaches who get the chance to do just that wonder about. And in this episode, we'll talk to one of those coaches.
We let you in on a conversation Dan Tudor had with a coach who gets to start from scratch: What are the challenges? What are the typical mistakes they make? And, how should recruiters work smarter to achieve their goals?
Listen in, and learn what our advice is for college recruiters in this situation.

If you are, you're going to like this episode, featuring Dan Tudor talking about what he and Tudor Collegiate Strategies has learned about what works, and what doesn't, when it comes to international recruiting.

In this episode, we try to answer three key questions asked to us by one of our clients:
How do we separate ourselves from other schools in a prospect's Top 3 when they've already visited each campus?
How do we not get dropped after just one phone call with a new prospect?
How do we better control the timeline for the prospect?
We answer those questions, and also talk to author, entrepreneur, former naval submarine officer and 2022 NCRC speaker Jon Rennie about how to motivate and direct a prospect (or your current team) to buy into your ideas and culture.
For more information on Jon Rennie, visit his website at jonsrennie.com (he has some great books on leadership and developing that trait in your student-athletes and fellow coaches!)

You want to establish effective timelines and deadlines in your recruiting efforts, but what if you're also operating in less than idea circumstances?
Like multiple prospects that you become aware of all during the year? Or needing to meet a certain roster number? Or being a coach that's new, or one that is still in the rebuilding process?
On this episode, listen in live as Dan Tudor walks through strategies with a new coach who wants to set a good foundation, but also has some hurdles to account for.

CNBC voted Celeste as having one of the most watched TED talks in 2016 and Glassdoor named Celeste as having the #1 must-watch TED talk for every recruiter and hiring manager in the business world. Now Celeste speaks to groups around the world on the art of conversation, music, journalism and more.

In this episode, Dan catches up with a previous guest, Jim Holvay, who uses his four decades of sales experience to answer four (and a half) common sales-related hurdles coaches tell us they regularly face.
In this episode, Jim outlines why your personality doesn't have to dictate the sales and recruiting approach you take, why it's critical to be yourself in sales situations, how the Happy Birthday song saved his sales career, why he wants to be remembered as a professional who helped people.
For those of you who have been listeners of the podcast, you'll remember the first time Jim was on the show sharing his wisdom. If you want to listen to that episode, here's the link (it's worth it!):
