The date was June 29, 2021. An ordinary Tuesday afternoon.
But in just two days time, Bart and Krista Halderson would be dead. Their body parts strewn across rural Wisconsin.
Omar Jobe, 33-years-old, answers the phone while working his job at the Madison Area Technical College help desk. He's connected with a man named Bart Halderson (pictured below).
Bart would assume his son's identity in an attempt to get to the bottom of a seemingly impossible, year-long struggle to obtain his sonâs college transcripts.
And it's during this phone call that Bart would finally learn the truth about his son's academic situation. Chandler Halderson's intricate web of lies was about to be unspunâone thread at a time.

A jailhouse phone call.
An interesting phenomena in its own right. The prison industrial complex in the USA generates an estimated 1.3 billions per year. In March of 2020, when the Dane County Jail stopped all in-person visitations due to the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus they implemented a policy in which every inmate was allotted two 15-minute phone calls per day.
No matter if it's free or charged, if you happen to be on either end of a jailhouse phone call you should be aware this is not a normal phone call.
Thatâs because thereâs an inherent irony in this kind of call. Especially one that takes place pre-trialâlike the one you hear at the beginning of this episode between Chandler Halderson and his girlfriend Catherine. And the irony is this.

Calvin says that the first thing you noticed right away was the low ceilings. It was half that of the other floors. This truly felt like a nonexistent floor. Built between the crawlspaces of two actual floors.
The taller members of the group buckled their knees to give the necessary headroom. And then excited, but also anxious, the group spread out and began to explore.
Calvin cautiously walked the length of a dimly lit, concrete hall. The layout wasnât much different than your normal hotel corridor. Doors branching off on either side to other rooms.

In a video on the official Facebook page for the USA's largest volunteer-supported child mentoring group, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Eleanor Hunton Hoppe stares down the barrel of the camera's lens and states:
"I'm Eleanor and I support Big Brothers and Big Sisters because our mentoring model works."
Eleanor was employed by the organization from December 2017 to June 2019 and once even served briefly as their interim Director of Philanthropy.

During the afternoon hours of March 16, 2023, a forty-five-year-old woman named Eleanor Hoppe got into her SUV and began the one-and-a-half-hour drive from her home in Charlottesville, Virginia to a hotel located in Warrenton.
To say Eleanor was excited about this road trip would be an understatement. She had been planning it for weeks. And as her car took the on-ramp to US 29 North and the white noise of rubber on asphalt hummed awayâsexual fantasies flooded Eleanorâs mind.

Leaves crunched under his shoes and the sunâs last rays pried their way into his squinted eyes as John walked down Crescent Street. He had an errand to run. John and Albert lived on the same streetâmerely its name changed as you crossed Main Street.

It was Halloween night and John wanted his family together.When they arrived home, around 5:30PM, John asked his daughter, Rachel, who was 11, to call his wife at work, and let her know that Pauline was back. Rachel got her on the line and Thelma asked her to keep Pauline at home until she could get there at 7:00PM. Then the kidsâRachel and her younger brother, Bernardâwent out trick-or-treating, leaving Pauline and John alone.
