Paul was stoned, whipped, shipwrecked, imprisoned, robbed, killed… yeah killed, probably 3 times…

Paul was in ministry for 30 years

You read this above list and Paul on average had a major catastrophe every year.

Let me say this up front and I will keep saying it… a real man continually tests himself, his beliefs and his actions to see if he really is a real man…We say we are Xn’s but do our actions line up with scripture… look if you really want to love yourself examine yourself truthfully according the full the full context of scripture and adjust, change - call yourself out… if you want others to love you, then examine yourself according to your justifications. we must all practice this weekly if not daily.

**So What is the psychology behind the mindset of someone who can go through a life of trauma, problems, relationship turmoil, betrayal, death and still overcome? What made Paul Paul? What Godly characteristics do we see in Paul that made him a BAMF… a bad as man of faith.

Men who are overcomer’s show incredible resilience in the face of adversity. There isn't a single mindset, but most likely a combination of factors that contribute to Pauls strength and manliness:

Challenge to Core Beliefs: Life has a way that can shatter a person's sense of safety and trust in the world. (PTSD is a real thing people) Overcoming this requires building, rebuilding and letting God govern those beliefs. Real Men may develop a stronger sense of self understanding in their faith in God, and a newfound appreciation for His safety and security as they go through each challenge.

What do I mean… I mean their core beliefs don’t keep them from pain or harm, but rather keep them going in the time of pain and harm. YOU SAY “GARTH WHATS THE POINT?” They expect this. They expect challenges… If you have a core belief.. say You believe in gravity… it will be tested! A man of God - a BAMF not only knows it, but will expect it… why well thats point #2

    BAMF

    Bad Ass Mutha Fudgamacallit.

Neil… BAMF Bless all my family

    Bad Ass man of faith!

Paul… Why did Jesus call him, lead him, anoint him? Yes he was brilliant and highly educated… A crazy background… so a great testimony…

BUT HE WAS ALSO A BAD MAN…

2 Cor. 11:22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. 23 Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak as a fool—I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?

Acts 27 Paul gives the commanding officer orders… calls him out… Ballsy!

Acts 28:3 Paul gathered a bundle of sticks, and as he laid them on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself to his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “Surely this man is a murderer. Although he was saved from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.…

Paul wanted to go see Caesar… that is almost certain death.. he didn’t care.

And lets not forget who he was before he came to Christ… a hard cold killer for the Jews. He was the original Nazarene Ninja. Beheading followers of Jesus.

Look Pauls heart was changed and I am sure he was softened… but his personality his manliness was still in tact!

    3 people you can’t help.

    Those that are always right

Those that will not improve through personal learning and development

Those that will not self inspect regularly

    Those that are always right

Think of King Saul…. Had the anointing and for some reason thought that he now knew everything… he was removed from office, but he still thought he knew everything right down to his death.

Here is a great daily self help growth question you should ask yourself every day just before bedtime… ask yourself “how was I wrong today and this week?”

If you truly want to grow you will ask yourself the hard questions and learn from them.

Those that will not improve through personal learning and development

If you are not willing to learn on your own, willing to study, willing to develop yourself… I can’t help you. When I used to teach guitar I would get to a point where I would explain to a parent… there are only so many ways I can try to teach your son or daughter how to play a C chord. They are not dumb, im not a bad teacher, they just refuse to practice and learn… and then I would fire myself as their teacher.

I only want to be around people who want to learn, develop and work hard… If thats not you, we can be friends… but you won’t get much of my time.

Those that will not self inspect regularly

Psalms 139:23-24 New Living Translation (NLT)

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

I either want God to search me and tell me how awesome I am or to not search me at all because I don’t want to hear how I am failing him and sinning.

But ultimate holiness comes from asking God to shake the tree… hey sometimes when you want to grow you gotta taste it… know what I mean?

Here is an insight to how you can change these three things in your life…

Prov. 23:7 as a man thinks so shall he be… thats his future.

WHAT YOU THINK IS WHAT YOU ARE TELLING YOURSELF.

I find it ironic we would cut ties from someone who is always cutting us down… but we will allow it to go on for years in our ears…

Change the words you use and change your future, your output and friends. Start saying I’m building an empire, a legacy, a global movement etc.., Im not always right, but Im learning. I am beginning to see what God sees in me….

The Bible doesn't provide a specific list of three reasons God wants you to succeed, but it does offer several themes that connect to achieving success in God's eyes. Here are three such themes:

    1. Glorifying God Through Your Gifts:

The Bible emphasizes using your God-given talents and abilities for good. Proverbs 18:16 says, "Skillful work brings profit, but chattering leads to poverty." Success achieved through using your gifts can bring honor to God.

    2. Fulfilling Your Purpose:

The Bible suggests God has a purpose for each life. Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Success in fulfilling that purpose can be seen as achieving God's will for you.

    3. Being a Good Steward:

The Bible teaches we are stewards of the resources and talents God grants us. Matthew 25:14-30 (the parable of the talents) illustrates this. Success can involve wisely managing what God has entrusted to you.

How to Achieve Success in God's Eyes:

Seek God's Guidance: Pray for wisdom and discernment in your endeavors (James 1:5).Develop Your Gifts: Cultivate your talents and abilities through learning and practice.Live a Moral Life: Following God's principles builds a strong foundation for success (Proverbs 20:7).Help Others: Use your success to bless others and contribute to the world (Galatians 6:10).Trust in God: Recognize that true success ultimately comes from God's grace (Proverbs 10:22).

Remember, the Bible's definition of success may differ from worldly views. Focus on using your talents for good, living righteously, and trusting in God's plan for your life.

But what you must understand is when you look at people in the bible who were wildly successful it did not come the way you would think… and it won’t come the way you want it to in your life…

Look if you came to me and said I want to bench 400 pounds… I would say I can give that to you.

If you went to God and said I want a million dollars… he could give that to you.

What am I getting at. If you wanted to bench 400 pounds, I would give you 1000’s of dummbell pull presses, 1000’s of bench variations with bands, chains, different bars, different angels and different loadings… I would give you 1000’s of Tate presses, 1000’s of JM presses, thousands and thousands of band tri extensions… and that is just the beginning… and you would say how is this giving me a 400 pound bench… well you can’t handle the 400 poounds until you develop the ability to handle it which is 10’s of thousands of reps in all things “non 400 pound bench”.

If you pray God give me a million dollars, even if you are willing to work for it… and that is your idea of success… he is going to create a life, circumstances, problems, challenges etc.. that make it possible for you to handle 1 million dollars. If not he not a very loving father. would you give your newly crowned 16 year old daughter a brand new Ferrari? Uhm… no.

Why do we not see this in todays world… why is this a bad thing. What ever you want… name it: Be a greater man of God, make more money, be a better husband, be a better father, get the new raise or promotion at work, build a 8 figure buisness… lose 100 pounds … if you really mean it, and you really pray for it… you are praying for 1000’s and 1000’s of reps that will make it posilbe for that to come thru in your life. Other wise Gods not a very loving father. How many people win the lottery and are brok 3 years later… 99% of them.

God has give you the desires of your heart… they are usually good desires… but before you go chasing after them realize God first wants you Holy so you can handle those answered prayers…

Success without sanctification is sacrifice of your true god given potential and future.

Ever been out in the hot sun and your working… you quickly get sweaty, then you get oily and then you get bloody… wait what? Yeah thats where we are going today.

    Matthew 26:36-46

where Jesus is said to have prayed on the night of his arrest before the Crucifixion. The name Gethsemane (Hebrew gat shemanim, “oil press”) suggests that the garden was a grove of olive trees in which was located an oil press.

Olive oil is prepared by timing… when the olives are ripe, ready to be picked, then crushed on a millstone and the oil is separated.

Sweat is an odorless liquid, consisting of mainly water, proteins, salt and oils.

    And in fact

When the body is reacting to an emotion, like anxiety, stress or excitement, sweat is released from the apocrine glands. These glands produce a milkier sweat comprised of fatty acids and proteins.

That fat is what produces that oil on the skin.

Jesus in the garden under great duress and stress and anxiety… fell into a state of Hemitidrosis

But when Jesus sweat, he sweat blood….

So when he was under pressure, the oil press remember… what came out of him was the power of Jesus. THE POWER OF THE BLOOD - RIGHT?

Gods blood forgives us, cleanses us, gives us the right to serve God and the power to serve God….

Revelation 12:1 His blood gives us power over the devil…

This is what oozed out of Jesus when under pressure.

His own oil, sweat and blood. You have heard the term blood sweat and tears… well its more appropriate to say Sweat Blood and Oil.

Just before this happened… just before we saw what comes out of Jesus… he was in prayer. What comes out of you will be determined by how well you are connected to the Father.

Don’t expect Gods anointing and power - oil and blood, to come out of you if you have been spending time on your phone, computer, music, friends, hobbies, drinking, money… if Prayer occupies your life, than when you are pressed you will produce oil and blood.

But one more thing to notice… sin started in a garden…. Gods first drops of blood happened in a garden.

One garden with one sin with worldwide eternal reverberations

    And we see…

One garden with one night of pressure and prayer and blood came of it with worldwide eternal reverberations

When your under pressure seek God for the best possible Worldwide eternal reverberations.

What can you teach us this year?

    Matt.26:39

39 Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” 40 Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “ Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”…

The outcome is inevitable - so why pray? Wrestle with your boys

7 steps to make boys men… and 7 dangers to keep them boys

    Luke 2:52 stature, favor wisdom

    1. Taking Responsibility:

Real men understand the importance of taking responsibility for their actions and decisions. This habit goes beyond simply admitting when they are wrong; it involves owning up to the consequences of their choices and working to make amends. They don't make excuses or blame others for their circumstances. Instead, they face challenges head-on and use their experiences as learning opportunities. By taking responsibility, they build credibility and trust with others, which is foundational for any meaningful relationship. This practice fosters maturity and accountability, setting the stage for personal and professional growth.

1A Video games. These are used to escape responsibility and relationships.

Without a great father figure it can seem impossible to live up to ones potential. You can feel overwhelmed and insecure. Enter video games. You can be a winner, you can start over, you can meet people and not really have to meet people, you can kill time….

You can master a video game and even stand out amongst your peers… you can’t master life. It will alwasy win in the long run. The best you can do is hope to learn as much from it as possible.

    2. Developing Self-Discipline:

Self-discipline is a cornerstone habit that men cultivate in all areas of life. They set clear, achievable goals and establish effective routines to reach them. This involves prioritizing long-term benefits over short-term pleasures, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing finances wisely, or advancing in their careers. By mastering self-discipline, they develop the ability to stay focused and resilient in the face of distractions and setbacks. This habit empowers them to make consistent progress toward their aspirations, ultimately leading to a more fulfilled and purposeful life.

2A Poor habits are the key to a lack of self discipline. You don’t need discipline if you have great habits, and you don’t need great habits if you choose to just drift in life. But listen you need self discipline to cement the habit, but once it is there you got it. Poor habits help you explain why you can’t control the world…so instead you choose to let it control you…. And your excuses neve make up for poor habits. You want your boy to stay a boy? Let his early life of entropy build bad habits… and you will definitely create a boy for life!

    3. Seeking Continuous Growth:

Boys to Men are committed to personal growth and lifelong learning. They actively seek new knowledge, skills, and experiences, understanding that growth is a continuous process. They embrace challenges and step out of their comfort zones to push their boundaries. This habit includes reading, attending workshops, learning new hobbies, or seeking mentorship. By constantly pushing themselves to improve, they become more adaptable and innovative, capable of navigating an ever-changing world. This commitment to growth not only enhances their own lives but also positively impacts those around them.

As a father what do your boys see you learning and developing? When there in school its easy for them to think they are learning the habit of learning… but that's where you have to push them and show them that learning outside of school is like you learning outside of your own job. You must always be developing yourself beyond your normal routine. I just took a First responders course… tomorrow im taking a course on AI… my boys see that in me, they practice the same things.

3A Stagnation or lacking growth poses only a threat to yourself, your family and your future. It is also the key to maintaining a joy LESS life. Growth can do a lot for you… and lacking in growth can also do a lot for you… but guaranteed it it will keep your son from learning what true joy is.

    4. Cultivating Emotional Intelligence:

Here is a thought, men don't leave jobs they leave bosses. Emotional intelligence tells you when how and where to do that. Or it may tell you why people are leaving you?

Emotional intelligence is crucial for building strong, meaningful relationships. Men develop self-awareness, allowing them to understand their emotions and the impact they have on others. They regulate their emotions effectively, ensuring that their reactions are appropriate and constructive. By empathizing with others, they build deeper connections and navigate social complexities with ease. Effective communication and mature conflict resolution are key aspects of this habit, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

    4A lacking emotional intelligence

Lacking emotional intelligence means you will never know yourself, understand yourself, and or even know how to grow and get out of life's pitfalls that you created in your own life. What's the saying again- an unexamined life is not worth living.

A lack of emotional intelligence leads to a higher degree of stress, burnout, anxiety, depression.

Have you ever talked to a young person who is at the end of their rope and life seems like it's going to end because they failed a class or the girlfriend broke up with them? They lack emotional intelligence.

A key to building emotional intelligence in your boys is to help them look at others around their life and problems they are dealing with. Ask them how their friends got into those problems and how their friends should deal with those problems and then ask them what they would do if they got into those problems.

    Luke 2:52 stature, favor wisdom

    5. Showing Respect:

Real men treat others with respect, regardless of their background or status. They listen attentively, value different perspectives, and treat everyone with dignity. This habit is about recognizing the inherent worth of every individual and behaving in ways that reflect this understanding. Respect is earned through actions, not demanded, and men who consistently show respect build strong, supportive networks both personally and professionally.

5A Respect isn’t earned, it is given until it is lost. I might not agree with you but I must learn to respect you. If I do not learn to respect I begin to adopt a mindset of elitism and arrogance. At the base of this is I am choosing to be dumb… Im unwilling to learn from you because I know better than you. Ultimately it translates into your healthy relationships, and even your body language. You isolate healthy helpful meaningful relationships from your life.

    6. Practicing Integrity:

Integrity involves upholding high moral and ethical standards. Men who practice integrity act with honesty, honor, and consistency in their personal and professional lives. They value trust and are true to their word, ensuring that their actions align with their values and principles. This habit builds a reputation of reliability and respect, fostering trust and admiration from others.

6A Heres the problem at the core… you lie to yourself. You will never trust yourself to take chances to grow.

    7. Embracing Leadership:

Leadership is not just about holding positions of power; it's about taking initiative and inspiring others. Men who embrace leadership make decisions confidently, take responsibility for their outcomes, and motivate those around them to achieve their full potential. They lead by example, demonstrating the behaviors and attitudes they wish to see in others. This habit involves empowering others, contributing positively to families, workplaces, and communities, and striving to create a better environment for all.

Incorporating these habits transforms boys into men by fostering maturity, responsibility, and the ability to positively influence their surroundings.

People who learn to lead without titles will always be sought out.

7A if you cant lead yourself, you won’t lead anyone else. I personally believe way too much is spoken about leadership, and far to less on personal leadership.

What does stress come from? It comes from not living up to your values… but if you cant self lead you will never live up to your values.

    Matthew 25

    Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids

25 “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids[a] who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, 4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 “At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’

7 “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. 8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’

9 “But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’

12 “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’

13 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

In the end times… don’t run out of oil

If oil is so valuable in so many ways… why would these virgins forget to take more oil… And yes in regards to the anointing of following christ - ?Why? We get a little insight in 2 Timothy.

2 Tim. 4:3For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.…

They were fooled into thinking that didn’t need oil anymore. They got tired of oil… they got Tired of Jesus… weird right, but it can happen unless you keep your life full of his oil, his anointing, his intimacy…

8 - you may have trauma in your life from the past, so it causes you to overreact, or read into how she responds.

i.e. you bring it up but you don’t set the tone right, so you don’t bring it up thinking its her but its actually you who cant deal with it.

    How to deal with it

    - Find a lightning rod

    - seek spiritual counseling

    - stay around strong Christian men

    - Challenge negative and controlling thoughts, - embrace forgiveness

    - We talked about this before, but again

    - remind her, there are three types of relationships. One is healthy. What is unhealthy and one is no relationship. Challenge her to choose healthy or there will be no relationship in that area.

    - realize you can build confidence in confrontation. You don't need her to respond correctly in order so that you continue to speak the truth in love. But always speak the truth in love regardless of how she might accept it. This is how you build unshakable confidence.

8 reasons why you shut your mouth and quit sharing your life and struggles with your woman…

And what you can do about it… this will be a series…

Silence is not strength. If You choose to not deal with hurts and issues realize you are choosing the easiest thing To do -not the hardest or most brave… and definitely not the healthiest way to deal with issues.

Yes we all have stuff to deal with and we all have stuff to bury… but should we?

    And Why Do we??

4 - you were taught to internalize things

Next door neighbor…. Professional athlete…baseball in the backyard

5 - sometimes men don't share because they don't understand the dynamics of a healthy relationship. And maybe the partner doesn't either so they're both stuck in emotional lockdown.

Partners share all things in a healthy relationship.

The more healthy a relationship the more you share your intimate moments, details and insecurities… even sins - typically a sign of health. AND NOT just share them but work thru them.

6 - Another reason is he just may not trust you. He knows you just cant keep a secret due to your own insecurities.

He sees you with others… they ask you (your wife) to not say anything… and you say OH I WOULD NEVER… but than you do, so im not going to say anything to you im not worried about sharing with others even if you promise me you wont.

    And Why Do we??

Yesterday was #1 she may use it against you.

    TODAY…

2 - He may not want her to worry about him, or to think less of him.

What happens if you tell your wife that you are tempted to talk behind someone's back at work so that you get the promotion. Or that you are struggling with porn or lust or that you haven't read or prayed for a few weeks. Your first concern is how she will then see you and how that will then affect your relationship. And don't get me wrong she will see you differently but depending on what the woman is made of, she will either encourage you convict you reject you or silence you.

A great conversation to have with someone before they are your Wife is to find out what you can and can't share with them and how they would respond. Remember, maybe one of David's wives should've asked him because you are king and can have him do anything. should I be worried about you finding other women?

3 - he may not share his true heart because it's about you, his wife and he knows you can't handle it. This is the number one issue in most relationships.

Women who grew up in homes of divorce, do not handle, confrontation well at all. And it will manifest later in their own marriage.

My wife comes from an upbringing where her mother had four different men in her life, and they were all very dysfunctional and even evil. But they all - but one, were divorced from her mom. Let's just say early on my wife, could not handle confrontation no matter how minor it would be. We had to work through this and be honest we still are.

When you share the truth with someone because you love them and want what's best for them and they don't receive it, they can't handle it and they pull back or blame -overtime you shut down, and your love them can even dwindle.

How do you deal with your hurt especially from the one you love the most.

1 - She uses it against you later on.

She herself may be wounded. And when people use your weaknesses as weapons against you- it can cause a man to shut down in a millisecond?

Then he distrusts others… even other trusted men.

Here is a different perspective from the word of God when we talk about sharing the gospel and being rejected. The Bible tells us that we will be despised and rejected for sharing Christ so we aren't shocked when it happens. We're still cool to do it because it's the right thing. And the same way we are still call to share our hurts our emotions and our feelings with our loved ones even if they won't except it or even if they use it against us. But knowing this text some of the sting out of it when it happens.

An illustration are used to use regarding this point is when I would go to speak to a large group of teenagers before walking out on the stage will be introduced. I would unzip my zipper. It wouldn't take more than a few seconds, and Kids would start yelling your zippers down your zippers down. They will expect me to become incredibly embarrassed, but instead, I would simply reach in my pocket and pull out a note and ask one of them to read it into the microphone, and the note would say this, I know my zippers down why are you looking. Kids would laugh, but then I would explain to them that I'm not embarrassed because I knew it was down. I knew what was happening and I was prepared. If you have the Same mindset when you share your intimate hurts and feelings with your spouse, it lessens the blow if they choose to ever use it against you.

    How did they make it

200,000 people diverse as any city… but they were the only Christians…

You get dropped off in some city, sexual sin is promoted and practiced…. Drugs, paganism… anything goes… and your the only Xn…. How do you not only make it but thrive?

1 Thessalonians says they experienced salvation with not just words but also in power… it allowed them to practice…

    Holiness and no compromise.

Holiness? Sounds very antiquated in todays world… yes and lets talk ab about how to can our own rutabagas…

the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 NLT

But in today's world, it sounds too simple, too naïve and too abstract. What exactly does it mean?

The truth is when you truly study holiness, you might end up feeling like you are dressed up in a costume and calling yourself a Christian because the fact is you really aren't holy when you understand what it means in scripture.

I believe when one looks at scripture, you understand that holiness goes beyond simply doing with the Bible says. You can obey all the commands, and still not be holy, you asked how does that work?

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. Matthew 16:24 NLT

Being holy goes beyond rules and regulations and cuts to the heart. Are you selfish in any of the things you choose to do or say or where you go? The truth is holiness in some sense of the word is different for me than it is for you. Yes we both confess the same Jesus and we both follow the same Scriptures and commands however he might call me to stand out in different ways in how I would I choose to do it. The question you can ask in anything you do or say, or for any motive is this is this truly selfish or is this truly godly? And then ask God to give you guidance into what to do or to say in order to stand apart and be Holy.

August Friday and Saturday 16th 17th End times conference at HillSpring Church sponsored by The David Alliance,

This Friday surgery… another shoulder replacement, reattach the super spinouts, and work on the labrum. They say 6-8 months rehab and recovery.

My goal has always been at 60 to still bench over 400, squat and deadlift over 600… totally on track with deals and squats… but bench… oh my my… maybe not. But please pray for me!

Acts 27: 18 The next day, as gale-force winds continued to batter the ship, the crew began throwing the cargo overboard. 19 The following day they even took some of the ship’s gear and threw it overboard. 20 The terrible storm raged for many days, blotting out the sun and the stars, until at last all hope was gone.

21 No one had eaten for a long time. Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, “Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. 22 But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. 23 For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, 24 and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’ 25 So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said. 26 But we will be shipwrecked on an island.”

I read verse 25, 26 and always see Paul at that moment like Carl Spackler aka Bill Murray in Caddy Shack…

And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Total consciousness: the state of being conscious; awareness of one's own existence, sensations, thoughts, surroundings, full activity of the mind and senses, as in waking life

What if we took slices of history out of our life from the future and looked at it with this attitude…

2 years from now… This is written in your pre-history… yes, your wife will get cancer and it will affect your finances greatly and you will struggle to keep your job…But be of courage, God is good and he will use this in your life to bring about a great peace and a wonderful opportunity to tell others about Jesus… so I got that going for me… so thats nice.

What is this saying… Paul wasn’t believing in God due to the circumstances around him… ship is breaking apart, waves pummeling the sailors, Black clouds, lightening… men in deep fear…

Sometimes in life we must simply believe the best is yet to come simply because of who God is and now what we see or are experiencing at the moment.

The only thing that can get you through the storms, the only thing that can sustain you is Gods faithfulness.

In the middle of hard times (and lets be honest, I don’t know what the future holds) I remind myself of Gods faithfulness from the past. I will tell myself… you will be 4 months behind in your house payment, your car payment and you will have to sell some guitars, and your Harley and your wife will struggle with with her trust in God… You will wonder if you will ever will have enough money… But someone will talk into the bookstore and hand you an envelope with $10,000 in it. And a week later someone else will hand you a check for $10,000… but you will still have some hard times with your son running from God and in jail and guns and drugs… So you got that going for you… so thats nice.

I know 2 things are certain… not death and taxes…

But rather Hard times and Gods faithfulness.

When all resources run out, all earthly wisdom has failed, all friends and family can’t help anymore… when people are actually start avoiding you because they feel drained by your problems…. God will be faithful.

Gal. 6: 9 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Do not grow weary… God will be faithful. God will come through… Don’t quit trusting him, Don’t quit living for him, Don’t quit loving him and Don’t doubt him…. Because in time you will have total consciousness… so you got that going for you… which is nice.

Basket ball game: referee experience as a parent! I couldn’t call the right fouls, people yelling at me, everyone mad at me… when I do call a foul it was on my own son, when I went over to the bench to get some consoling from Kim she looked at me like… “You should be ashamed!”

I WAS FRIED AFTER THAT GAME… FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS… WEERY!

    HERE IS A LITTLE SECRET…

The truth is it will never be easier to serve God than right now… history is becoming peeled back and truth will dwindle. As it does the ability to freely serve God will become mountainous.

***WE FAIL TO ENGAGE IN CULTURE WHEN WE ARE WEERY!

Galatians 6:6 Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. SOUNDS GOOD SO FAR RIGHT? 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

    Gal. 6:7-10 WUEST

God is not being outwitted and evaded. For whatever a man is in the habit sowing this also will he reap. Because the one who sows with a view to his own evil nature, from his evil nature as a course shall reap corruption. But the one who sows with a view to the Spirit , from the Spirit as a source shall reap life eternal. Let us not slacken our exertions by reason of the weariness that comes with prolonged effort in habitually doing that which is good. For in a season which in its character is appropriate we shall reap if we do not become enfeebled through exhaustion and fait. So then, in like manner, let us be having opportunity, let us be working that which is good to all, but especially to those of the household of faith.

    Do not grow weary

Weary - the will… do not start in the spirit only to sow in the flesh.

Not weary in the flesh as in “physically tired” - but weary in the spirit so you sow into your soul/flesh appetites.

GK ek-kak-eh’-o = to be negatively influenced by the lack of outcome

Doing Good - inspire and motivate someone to do what is lovely… or GODLY

What would keep you from sowing? What would make you give up? What if I said you won’t see the reaping until after you die?

Fatigue makes cowards of us all. Vince Lombardi

Our trials our sin, evil, satanic, lust, the world… but the hardest is Weariness into apathy.

You don’t have to backslide, you don’t have to run from God, you don’t have to fall into addiction or some great sin… to be ineffective you just need to be tired.

If there is one thing that will discourage me more than anything is this… being tired with nothing to show for it.

Impatience is a disease… WHERE IS THE FRUIT?

    As Spurgeon said…

The duty is to “do” without knowing “what or when” it will happen.

The context of this verse tells us that there will be times where we don’t feel

    Gods blessing,

    his favor,

    his excitement,

    his pleasure

    his fruit….

    PRE-DANGER (and then 3 dangers)

You must know how to read your emotions

Tell tale signs of emotional drain include:

    1. wanting to be alone,

    2. becoming sarcastic,

    3. over eating,

    4. sleeping less and sleeping worse,

    5. quick and superficial desires,

    6. burnout,

    7. hating your job,

    8. feeling like home is work,

    9. arrogance or I’m not drained attitude ( the scariest problem with this is you don’t see it…it is everybody else’s problem),

It intensifies you’re existent personality quirks into full blown negatives and ultimately weakness.

Being emotionally drained is a lot like having to go the bathroom really bad. You hold it, your bladder is tight, everything makes you feel uncomfortable, and you really can’t enjoy anything until you relieve the pressure. You could be in the middle of your Christmas morning, your birthday, an awards ceremony… but if you really got to go it is almost impossible to enjoy the moment.

    WEERY!
