  • As a parent, I’ll take any help I can get. Period.

Today on the podcast, I am absolutely thrilled to introduce you to Jeanine Mouchawar, a parenting coach and certified life coach who works specifically with parents of teenagers.

If you are a parent of a teenager, you’re likely feeling growing pains. What worked for you before doesn’t work anymore. Your teens are craving more independence,

navigating social stresses, and juggling real world pressures and responsibilities. They might even be starting to do things that scare you.

If you have kids of any age, or coach teen athletes, stop what you’re doing and press play. You guys, this episode is absolute gold.

Jeanine created a 5-step framework to help parents like us guide, influence, and support our teens. Today, she’s breaking down each one to show you how to bridge the communication gap with your teen to transform your relationship.

Jeanine is an absolute superhero because she gives parents the lifeline that they’re looking for. She teaches strategies to navigate difficult conversations, become your teen’s go-to person, and actually enjoy the teen years.

What I love about this episode is:

As a parent, I’m always hearing about the infamous teen years, and frankly will take all the help I can get. I learned SO much from this interview. This 5 step framework comes from Jeanine’s personal experience raising a challenging teenager who was engaging in risky behaviors. Her system really works, and she’s living proof of that. Jeanine gives parents so mant actionable ways to transform patterns of communication right away AND long-term.

Stop the parent-teen battles, stop feeling helpless, start taking actions that bring you and your teen closer together, and create the calm and peaceful home you so deserve.

Here’s a glance at the episode

[1:59] Jeanine starts off by introducing herself as a parenting coach for parents who are either trying to navigate a tough relationship with their teen or hoping to prepare for the teen years.

[4:29] Parents often approach parenting teens by trying to stop a certain behavior that is making them worried. Jeanine explains how that creates a negative cycle.

[9:12] Teens need different parenting than they did when they were young. We can’t parent through force. Lindsey draws a parallel with being a sports coach.

[11:21] When your teen does something that scares you, your nervous system gets flooded. Step 1 of Jeanine’s 5 step system is about regulating your own emotional system before you talk to your kids. Shame plays a big role in you teen’s reaction.

[15:20] Jeanine and Lindsey chat about how you can calm your nervous system quickly using more ‘surface level ways’ for quick wins right away.

[17:48] Step 2 is all about zooming out and observing the behavior. Jeanine warns not to get into what she calls ‘mommy fast forward brain’ and what happens when you do.

[21:31] Getting curious is step 3 in Jeanine’s framework. What is your teen thinking/feeling/or causing them to make that choice?

[28:55] To meet your teen where they’re at, you have to normalize their feelings so they don’t feel alone. Tell them “YOU are not the problem, it’s you and me against the problem”. This is step 4. Jeanine offers some examples of healthy ways to chat with your teens, leading with empathy.

[31:45] Jeanine dives into step 5 which is all about helping your teens solve their own problems. Jeanine explains the importance of buy-in before offering advice.

[34:18] Lindsey and Jeanine chat about how coaches can apply this framework to sports, and how the parenting and coaching emotional framework has evolved over time. Lindsey asks “How do you approach disciplining your teen?”.

[39:27] Lindsey and Jeanine end the episode with a discussion on “natural consequences”, why they’re important, and how to know when it’s time to step in.

  • Today's Mental Monday episode is inspired by calls I've had with Mindset Coach Academy applicants. I find it so fascinating to meet and talk to people who are making a decision about whether or not to join my program. The psychology of it in particular is really fascinating. Because taking a big jump, putting money and time and energy toward the thing that you say you want is HARD. And it's something that a lot of people don't have the guts to do. In this episode, I'm asking the question: What happens if you DON'T take action? Does the "hard" go away? Does doing nothing make it easier? This episode may just change how you look at your goals and the risks you're willing to take to get what you want.

  • One of the best things I’ve done as a parent is to teach my kids mindset tools. Simple, uncomplicated exercises that they can reach for when they need a little extra help.

Skills like identifying, communicating, and regulating your emotions are LEARNED skills. So as a parent who is also a mindset coach, I am always finding ways to teach my kids age-appropriate mindset tools.

Because I want my daughters to know that they are not their emotions. Their mindset can change their reality. They have control.

If you work with young kids as a coach, a parent, or a teacher, this is a game-changer.

I’ll start by saying I have 4 kids, all under 10. My kids are young. And trial-and-error is just part of the package deal right now. I’m not a fan of the ‘throwing spaghetti at the wall’ approach when it comes to coaching older athletes, but with kids, sometimes you have to try stuff and figure out what works for each kid.

I tell myself, if I can get it right 50% of the time, I’m doing okay.

In today’s episode you’ll learn tools to help your kids:- Regulate their fight or flight response

    - Understand what you’re telling them on a deep, psychological level

    - Move through tough emotions like disappointment, fear, or anger.

    - Feel seen, validated, and understood

As a professional mindset coach, here are three mindset tools I use with my kids.

What mindset tools are you teaching your kids? Come on over to Instagram and tell me about it! I’m always adding to my toolbox, getting it wrong, trying something else, getting it right occasionally.

  • Some of the best, most valuable coaching you can get from anyone is to learn about all the ways they f-ed up. As students, we’re always looking for someone to save us from mistakes. Save us valuable time, resources, and energy. To teach us the shortcuts so that we can get to where we want to be faster.

I’ve been a full time mindset coach for over a decade, and did mindset coaching on the side for much longer than that. So I can confidently tell you that I’ve made a ton of mistakes. Today, I’m going to share with you my top 10.

These are 10 ways I self-sabotaged throughout the years. By devaluing my own time, by thinking I could do this on my own, by overcomplicating, and by skipping really fundamental steps. Steps that would have helped me build a stronger foundation faster.

Please, for the love of god, learn from my mistakes. Mistakes are an inevitable part of any big, brave journey. My mistakes are where so much of my learning as a business owner came from, and a big part of what got me to where I am today, which make them some of the most valuable things I can teach you.

Let me know which mistake resonates most with you, and tell me about a mistake you made in YOUR business.

  • Today, I'm talking about the downside of gratitude. I wrote about this concept recently in my newsletter, because, at the age of 42, this is a new concept for me. A lot of us here have similar traits. Traits that helped us be successful in sports. But sometimes, these strengths in sports don't serve us in other areas of our lives. I'm really good at sucking it up. When something goes wrong, I am really good at minimizing it, shifting my thoughts, and focusing on all the good things in my life. That's a strength of mine in so many ways. But there's also a dark side to gratitude. And that's what I'm getting into today on The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast. I'm so curious if you relate to my message today, so listen to today's Mental Monday episode to learn more and let me know what you think!--------------------BRAVR Method: The BRAVRℱ is a step-by-step SYSTEM designed to get you and your athletes the focus, toughness and resiliency in practice (and beyond) that you ALL deserve. • I am loving how much emotional learning is going on in school these days. I am constantly impressed by so many of the things that my kids are learning about identifying and regulating their emotions. For example, my kid's public elementary school has a calm space for kids to go when they're feeling overwhelmed. And they're learning how to label and identify their feelings with colors and something called a "mood meter". And, you know what, I am HERE for it. Side note - If you are a teacher who teaches this stuff to young kids, THANK YOU. All that to say, today's Mental Monday lesson comes from my 3 year old. It's a little mental exercise you can teach your kids, AND use yourself. It works at any age. --------------------3 Day Summit for Aspiring Mindset Coaches: Join us for 3 days of LIVE webinar trainings! • I want to talk today about advanced degrees in the mindset coaching industry.

If you are thinking about joining The MCA Certification, you might be wondering if you should go back to school to get your degree instead.

This is a question that comes up all time, and it’s one that I fully believe you should be asking. Because if you’re really serious about becoming a mindset coach, you should explore all your options.

With 18 years of experience as a mindset coach, I have seen people go through my program both with and without degrees, and what I’ve learned is that an advanced degree does not determine whether or not you’ll be successful in this field. There are many other factors at play.

If you choose to go down the advanced degree path, I don’t want you to do it just because you think that’s what you SHOULD do. I want you to do it for the right reasons, knowing exactly what you have to gain by doing it.

The goal of this episode is to show you the big picture when it comes to advanced degrees so you can decide if you need one.

I won’t give you the answers, but I will give you the questions you should be asking so that you can make a decisive, informed decision, one way or another.

  • I bring a lot of hypnotism principles into what I teach. Now, because of all the preconceived notions around the word "hypnotism", I prefer to use broader words like visualization, metaphors, and breathwork. At its core, it's all of these things. On today's Mental Monday, I'm sharing an exercise that I've been working on with my hypnotist, Dr. James Hollingsworth. This exercise has helped me settle my thoughts in time of stress and calm my nervous system when I'm feeling fried. If you are going through something now, or just want to feel more equipped next time you're struggling, I really encourage you to listen to today's Mental Monday podcast and practice this exercise. The more you practice it, the stronger it will get. • This episode is about obstacles. Ironically, I had so many obstacles when I tried to record it. Funny how that happens, isn’t it?

To be more specific, this episode is about ANTICIPATING obstacles. Which may seem a little counterintuitive. Let’s say you have a big, scary, new goal and you decide to go for it. So many of us think we need to just focus on the positive stuff. We need to believe in ourselves to get momentum, we need to think happy thoughts, etc. etc. etc.

It often feels wrong to jump into something while thinking about all the ways it could go wrong. But today I’m going to explain to you why it’s absolutely necessary to think about that stuff.

Anticipating obstacles is not manifesting the worst case scenario. Anticipating obstacles prepares you to be successful. Because when you don’t anticipate obstacles, you WILL be surprised by them, and that can lead to feeling overwhelmed, stuck, discouraged, or it can cause you to turn to what’s comfortable in the moment.

Anticipate obstacles gives you a chance to create a plan and solve for things ahead of time. This sets you up for success.

    In this episode, I cover:

How to anticipate tangible vs intangible obstaclesHow our feelings about obstacles impact everythingHow I solve for one of my biggest obstacles as a business ownerA common obstacle that’s easy to overlookOne exercise you can do todayDownload our free e-book: “How to Become a Mental Performance Coach”: This FREE ultra-simple guide will show you how YOU can make mindset coaching your full-time career or part-time hustle. • Initially, I was a little hesitant to do a life update on the podcast. But then I remembered something my husband told me before I recorded my first episode. He told me that the best podcasts are the ones where people stay open and let people in. And I agree. I love hearing more about the people I follow.

So today, that’s what I’m doing. I’m letting you in, and sitting down with you like we’re having a turmeric latte (my latest favorite beverage) or going out for a walk around Greenlake. I’ve had a tremendously difficult 6 months, and while I can’t go into everything today, I do want to talk about some simple things that have been bringing me joy and helping me move through the tough stuff. I need more casual chats with friends in my life, and maybe you do too.

So if a life update isn’t for you, go ahead and skip this episode. But if you want to hear more about my life and, let’s face it, my ongoing obsession with birdwatching, press play and join me for a chat.

  • My guest today is Confidence and Mental Performance Coach, Shay Haddow! A few weeks ago, I was a guest on Shay’s podcast, The Alpha Girl Confidence Podcast, and now it’s her turn to take the hot seat.

Shay, like many of us, found her passion for mental training through her own personal struggles as an athlete. Shay talks openly about tearing her ACL at the age of 12, reckoning with that physical and emotional trauma at such a young age, and going on to grapple with her confidence as a player until she reached a boiling point her junior year.

Now, Shay is a badass coach who has dedicated herself to helping female athletes strengthen their self-belief to play and live confidently. Her keystone program is a 4 month group coaching program for middle school and high school female athletes.

Building her business from the ground up, Shay is open about experiencing burnout as a business owner, and what it took for her to move through it and come out better on the other side.

I really admire Shay for being so open about her ups and downs as a business owner. Being an entrepreneur is all-too-often a lonely experience, so Shay’s vulnerability and storytelling in this episode is a powerful reminder that you are not alone.

Before we even sat down together, I knew this interview would be full of nuggets of wisdom for mindset coaches, so I invited some of my students to join to give them a chance to learn from Shay firsthand and ask her questions.

    Their questions included:

“What is the ideal age to start mental training?” “Do you have trouble getting kids to accept responsibility because parents are playing the blame game?”“Knowing what you know now about hustle culture and burnout, would you do things differently?”

Shay is one to watch - so listen up and take notes!

Confidence and mental performance coachOnly for female athletes - high school and middle school mostly in a small group settingProgram called beyond the athlete.4 month group coaching program Book/podcast Shay was a soccer and basketball player. At 12 she tore her ACL - trauma mentally and physically. She also had anxiety in general as a kid. So being out for 9 months at that age after being a confident athlete was really tough. This week, I got to sit down with Sales and Leadership Coach, Casey Jacox. With over 25 years of business experience, Casey has won in sales by prioritizing relationships over transactions. He is a father, husband, coach, podcaster, speaker, and business leader who prides himself on his curiosity, positivity, and authentic way of approaching all facets of his life.

Over the years, Casey has earned a glowing reputation across the board. After achieving record-breaking sales at his company 10 years in a row, Casey went on to write his debut book, “Win the RELATIONSHIP - Not the DEAL”. He’s now the founder of Winning The Relationship, LLC, a consulting firm that provides executive sales leadership and coaching, and he hosts the podcast, The Quarterback DadCast, which offers advice for fathers.

What makes this episode so powerful is that Casey is no stranger to adversity, and has continually bet on himself over and over again. Not only has Casey lived a lot of lives, he is a living, breathing example of turning stories of failure into stories of success. With a rich background in both sports and sales, Casey is relatable, sharp, and knows exactly what it takes to crush any big goal in front of you.

This episode is rich with entertaining sports stories, and lessons from failure, positive self-talk, tough-love pep talks, persistence, and the importance of relationships over everything.

Casey starts off the episode by introducing himself. He chats about his kids as well as his background in sports and sales. He introduces his book, his podcast for dads, and his meaningful work as a sales coach.

[3:45] Self-belief can be hard to come by when you’re a teenager. Casey’s shares his high school to college football journey, and how he suffered a season-ending injury.

[8:40] Casey shares his dark inner thoughts in the aftermath of his injury, and how he found new purpose after asking his coach for advice. This journey ended up leading him to sales.

[11:35] Lindsey tells Casey about how she used to believe that not making the WNBA disqualified her from becoming a mindset coach. Now she knows that this “failure” actually qualifies her. Casey shares how he came to the same conclusion and quotes Tony Bennett, “Adversity is life’s golden ticket”

[15:28] When writing his book, Casey talks about how he had to work on his own self-talk and execute a “training plan”, similar to when he was an athlete.

[18:09] Casey never expected to become a coach. He tells Lindsey the story of a no-bullshit pep talk that changed everything. When pitching for his first coaching job, he told his employer, “Someone’s gotta bet on me”.

[22:00] Lindsey and Casey discuss the importance of self-belief before others believe in you. From journaling, to self-talk, to visualization, Casey and Lindsey chat about the very real psychological work that goes into maintaining your confidence.

[26:37] Casey brings up the importance of curiosity. He talks about his daily ice bath routine and how it reminds him that he can do hard things.

[28:52] These 5 “swear words” create anxiety, negative space, and overwhelm. The phrase, “I will”, puts you right back in the driver’s seat.

[31:28] What does a typical day look like for a high performance sales coach? Casey shares his daily routine which includes ice baths, coaching, “throwing boomerangs”, and showing up for his kids.

[33:40] Lindsey wraps up the episode by asking Casey a few rapid-fire questions. Casey talks about his love of reading, podcasts, and creating purpose and vision for his clients and his kids.
