Going into Junior Nationals, she really focused on the detail in her workouts and mind-muscle connection. That attention to detail and working to shape her muscles really helped her work go farther.

Jonelle wants to bring classic, vintage glam to the stage. She refined her look to a point but decided to wear a wig on stage this year. This way she can stay true to her style and still meet the criteria for the stage. She says this is the first year she feels like she has nailed her look.

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Laura Moore-Shay, a full time project manager in engineering. She is also a prep & lifestyle coach, homeowner, and pug mom. She also is the host of the podcast Bikini Things! She first competed in 2017 and turned Pro in 2020 at NPC USAs.

Laura speaks in depth about her road to Pro and highs and lows. Being 6 feet tall, Laura has to be careful not looking too thin when she diets down for a show. She decided to start working with Kim Odo and take a long off season to put on more muscle. Laura tells us how she knew she wanted to be a Pro even before she started competing! She kept it to herself until she thought she thought the goal was in her reach.

We hear about how Laura plans her improvement seasons and what that means in regards to “old school” bulking. Because of her height and natural body type, it’s harder for her to keep on weight. She firmly believes you have to be happy with your body regardless of the stage you’re in. She has learned to appreciate her offseason body as much as her prep body.

In her work as a prep and lifestyle coach, she makes it a priority to foster healthy food relationships. She also believes in being honest with her clients. She does not like extreme cardio or extreme low calorie diets for her prep clients and would rather push a show date than be too extreme. She likes to shift clients immediately into a reverse diet post-show to allow for more flexibility and healthy maintenance of hormones.

“If you can manage your time, you can do whatever you want.”

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Dr. Jaqueline Duke, a doctor of clinical psychology who has ran a thriving practice while raising her young daughter with her also-competing, chiropractic physician, IFBB Pro husband. She earned her pro card with a first place finish at NPC TCM Nationals and received two fourth place finishes 24 hours later at her pro debut in the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Masters Championships. Her success in Pittsburgh took place only 13 months after her very first bikini competition, a goal she decided to pursue with her husband in celebration of their 40th birthdays.

The doctors' first prep began just prior to the March 2020 shut down, which presented its own obstacles in addition to drastic career changes, struggles in parenting a young daughter, and events that lead to their current preparation to move across the country. Amidst the chaos and tragic loss that 2020 presented to the Duke family, Jacqueline found bodybuilding to be the anchor that provided stability in life while also connecting her with like-minded individuals. She grew to find a passion and deeper connection to the meaning of her goals within the sport. She attributes these emotional experiences to be what created her relentless drive and fast, consistent success.

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Michelle Abramson, who turned 51 in September. She started this journey at 42 and fell in love with this sport. She's a professional certified registered nurse anesthetist in a high volume transplant hospital in Florida. She works full time, and is also a mom and wife. Her motivation is to help other women over 40 with a full plate to take care of themselves. She’s also an ISSA certified master trainer in nutrition and bodybuilding . She’s proven it’s never too late to find fitness!

Michelle tells us how persistence with posing practice helps her gain confidence when she is on stage. She was told many times she didn’t have the right look for NPC/IFBB bikini, so she ended up competing in and turning pro in WBFF. But in doing so, she realized how much she loved the NPC and decided to prove everyone wrong and earn her IFBB pro card.

She decided to become certified in training and nutrition because she had so many people asking her for help after she started competing. She puts a lot of effort into each plan and individualizes it for each person’s circumstances.

As a client of Celeste’s, Michelle has felt like she had someone who truly cared about her well-being and relationship with food. She discovered macros and has really learned more about nutrition and what foods work well with her body, which has taught her to love the food she eats.

Michelle is a great role model for all of us! Don’t miss her interview!

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Niccole Guggia, an AFPA certified holistic nutritionist who turned Pro in the 35+ division. Niccole began bodybuilding after she was already vegan. She was experiencing unexplained medical issues that doctors were unable to solve. In 2017, she decided to try a a plant-based diet for 30 day. After only two weeks, the majority of her symptoms were gone. She fell into bodybuilding after lifting weights with her husband and falling in love with the sport. She did her first show in October of 2018 and immediately knew she wanted to keep going. She won her pro card in her first national show and won the 2021 Nashville Fit Show Pro Masters division.

She decided to take an 18 month improvement season to build muscle before her first national show. This taught her a lot about her body and different aspects of bodybuilding. When she was two weeks into her next prep, COVID hit and derailed her plans. Despite all of the chaos, she decided to push through and let go of things she couldn’t control.

Niccole tells us how she considers “offseason” her “on season” because that’s when the real work of improvement happens. She also speaks to her experience as a vegan bodybuilder and proving that it’s possible to build muscle without animal protein. She chose to be vegan for health reasons and wouldn’t sacrifice her health for an incremental amount of gains that she could possibly gain from animal protein. She shares her favorite sources of vegan protein and how she uses them in her diet.

We get into how Niccole became as AFPA certified holistic nutritionist and that she and her husband grow strawberries. Niccole has such an interesting story. You don’t want to miss this episode!

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Holly Larsen, a 51-year-old mother who didn’t start competing until she was 48. She started her lifestyle coaching business when she experienced a layoff during COVID. Holly loves the lifestyle and journey to getting on stage but has had to work extra hard to overcome her discomfort being on stage. She found bodybuilding when she went to a women’s retreat and set the goal to get into the best shape of her life. Someone in her group suggested a bikini show and she ran with it! She thought she would be “one-and-done”, but she missed having a reason to train and eat well. That’s when she decided to start working with Team Elite Physique again.

Holly and Celeste share stories about competing during COVID and the lengths promoters and the NPC and IFBB went to make the experience the best they could for competitors. Because there are no Pro Masters shows in Colorado where she lives, she decided to make her Pro debut at the Puerto Rico Pro, which was held in the Bahamas. She got section place at her Pro debut and was really happy because it gave her things to work on and room to grow.

As a Master’s athlete, she doesn’t compete in the Open classes because she wants to win as a Master first. She hopes to still be competing into her fifties! She loves the lifestyle and how she can set a good example for her teenage children.

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Rachael Saeler, registered nurse who lives in Colorado. She began competing in 2015 as a bucket list item but got hooked after her first show. She won her Pro card at USAs in July of 2021. With each show she grows more confident and experiences less nerves before stepping on the stage. She looks forward to competing on the Pro stage to experience the backstage vibes and make friends.

Rachael talks about how she’s had to go past motivation and rely on discipline to get her through tough parts of prep. She asks herself, “What will skipping this workout do for me?” Or she will ask herself how she would feel after eating a sweet treat that wasn’t on her plan. She likes using macros during prep because of the flexibility it offers her.

In 2019, Rachael decided to prep because she in her husband were in different states and she needed something to help her through that and school. That’s also when she decided to start working with her coach and take things more seriously. That’s also when she realized she could turn Pro with more focused work. Every day, Rachael does something that will move her closer to her goal.

Rachael and Celeste talk about making gains in the improvement season and disconnecting from the number on the scale. Shifting focus to how your body is feeling and the strength you are gaining. She likes to take advantage of the improvement season to do fun trips with her husband that she can’t really do during prep.

Rachael and I had a great conversation. I can’t wait for you to hear it!

  • Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Allex Granger, a family nurse practitioner who lives in North Carolina. She began competing in 2019 and won her Pro Card at NPC Universe in 2021. Allex shares her early struggles about gaining weight and then how her classmates treated her when she actually did gain weight. When she learned about tracking macros, it helped her understand that one day or one meal of overeating wouldn’t derail her progress. When she realized it wan’t all-or-nothing, she was able to find balance and comfort in her body. As a nurse practitioner, it’s also helped her realize many of her patients don’t understand the nutritional benefits of food. She’s learned to honor her hunger cues and cravings while still staying on track through counting macros.

Allex shares how she has gained perspective of what she wants and doesn’t want for her body in every season. She speaks of the importance of shifting perspective to goals outside of her physique during improvement season. In working with her coaches, she tells the importance about giving detailed check-ins to be able to analyze the data to get the best results.

Currently, Allex is dealing with fractures in her feet after two 65lb dumbbells fell on her feet! She has had to modify her training because of this but is keeping a good attitude. After winning her Pro card, Allex experienced serious post-show blues. She almost felt like she didn’t even deserve her Pro card because she was so stressed. She had to shift her focus to relieve some of her stress and was able to still make her Pro debut.

Allex has such a great story. I can’t wait for your to hear it!
