  • Today I am joined on the podcast by John Harney of Blue Slate!

We'll be chatting about Blue Slate's latest release, 'Beaker' which is to be released tomorrow and marks a new sound and direction with the band's music.

On top of this, I'll be chatting to John about how he initially got into music, the ridiculous story of where the title for 'Beaker' even came from, how punk icons used to piss the general public off, American Hardcore, Henry Rollins and the love for the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Myself and John have been trying to get this podcast organised for what seems like over a year now so it was fantastic to finally get it recorded and John certainly did not disappoint.

  • Today I am joined on the podcast by Taylor Byrne, a multi-instrumental singer/songwriter, and frontman of the Franco-Irish ensemble, The Celtic Social Club.

Primarily in this episode we'll be chatting about Taylor's latest release, 'Someone Had to Stay', which was released in May of this year. Produced by Matt Winston, the five-track EP explores the theme of emigration from the perspective of those who remain. From the sombre ‘Someone Had to Stay’, the jaunty ‘22 & Feelin’ Sorta Aimless’, and the cathartic ‘London’, the EP showcases Byrne’s diverse musical capabilities and ability to weave cohesion through chaos.

On top of this, we'll be chatting about his upcoming singles 'Bedroom Plan' and 'Me and Marie', the amazing story of how he joined The Social Celtic Club and being with the band, amongst many other stories like the Arkham Games and the scramble for Oasis tickets.

  • Today I am absolutely to be joined on the podcast by Evan Prendergast of WORN OUT, to chat about the band's new EP, 'Low', set to be released on the 30th of August.

The first release off the EP, a song called 'Deeper', released in July, sets up this EP up as another fantastic edition to the band's back catalogue.

I've been following this band since their first releases and they've remained a band who consistently push the boundaries of their music with each explosive release and the pandemonium of their live shows sets them up as one of my favorite bands out there to go see.

Evan also plays drums with awesome band that is UNCULTIVATES and runs Dead Cult Promotions so needless to say we have plenty to chat about in this episode.

You can pre-order 'Low' now on Vinyl and tape as well pick up tickets to see the guys live on their release tour!

  • Welcome back to another episode of the podcast!

Today I'm joined by my buddy Declan Beare for their second appearance on the podcast.

We somehow managed to cover all of that within an hour.

You can catch Declan playing with True Home tomorrow supporting stoner and sludge metal legends, Weedeater alongside Coroza and TOOMS, then again with True Home supporting pthumulhu in Thomas House on Wednesday and a True Home headline show upstairs in Whelans on the 23rd of August!

  • Today I am joined by Oisín Murray and Róisín Doyle of Faoin Talamh, a new ancient Irish audio-visual project that will be debuting this Friday in Unit 44, Dublin.

The audio-visual collaboration is made using the sounds of Irish Bronze Age musical instruments in tandem with abstracted imagery of Irish Flora.

In this episode we will be talking about how this project began, the ancient sites the pair visited when researching for the project, the instruments played (all of which I've never even heard of), how you go about composing music that has no original sheet music for it or recordings, how Róisín created the beautiful visuals for the project and how people have died playing the instruments - I'm deadly serious, that has happened.

I had the pleasure of getting to see an example of what way this work would take form in and was really blown away at the combination of the music that Oisín has composed for this project played alongside the audio-visual's Róisín created, perfectly in sync and flowing with each other throughout the piece. Friday night at Unit 44 will be an event not to be missed. Tickets will be available at the door for €5.

Faoin Talamh also gave me a snippet of one of the pieces to open this episode, which is entitled 'Dúros' and is available to listen now on Spotify.

  • The 100th episode is here!

For this milestone episode I'll be joined by my good friend Zach Stephenson.

Zach would be the man that I'd largely credit with sparking my love for music and live shows, being the first person to take me to local shows and introduce me to a whole different side to music that I didn't even know existed.

You may know Zach from his previous band Munky, his work with Skinner (You can hear Zach on Skinner's latest single,'New Wave Vaudeville', which is fantastic if you haven't heard it) and he's currently on tour with Sprints, who just opened for Idles last night.

For this episode though, we'll be chatting about Zach's new musical project, lil cis, and his debut album set to be released later this year. It's a fantastically beautiful album from start to finish and features a whole host of amazing musicians playing alongside him on the album. I was listening to it so much and humming it that Zach deleted the link to the mixes on me hahaha.

I'll be chatting to Zach about his recording process, the themes of the album, Magaluf, the Euros, touring life and a bunch of other random topics that we always go down on this podcast.

    Here's to 100 more episodes!

  • Today I am joined by Michael Smyth of the Belfast based shoegaze band, Virgins!

We will be talking about the band's album 'nothing hurt and everything was beautiful', released in April through blowtorch records. The album finds the band exploring a wider sonic palette, seamlessly moving between the gaze-pop of ‘slowly, long’ and ‘disappearer’, to the dance influenced ‘softer’ and to the heavy, expansive and ethereal ‘pale fire’ and ‘tend’. Their captivating sound doesn’t rely on recycling shoegaze tropes but brings a fresh and contemporary approach to the genre. It is legitimately one of my favourite releases of the year.

On top of all this, Michael is also a promoter and do PR as Old Crows Promotions and a booking agent as Fever Dream Touring so we'll be chatting about some of the events he has put on, including Gazefest, which is a shoegaze festival that will be going on in Belfast and Dublin this year, featuring an incredible stacked lineup of incredible bands.

  • Today I am joined by all five members of The Donnys!

Hailing from Kilkenny, I first heard of these guys through Luke from Raise The Bar!, who was alarmed that I had never listened to them and once I gave their album a go, was immediately hooked. Their album, 'Get Active', released in April of this year, is a fantastic blend of pure Rock'n'Roll and with a modern twist that is just mad fun for the entire duration of it's 45 minute runtime.

We'll be chatting about the album in full, going into some of the themes explored, who the hell Gunther Brown is, the very interesting way the album was recorded and a bunch of other side stories along the way.

Can't recommend this band enough, make sure to grab tickets to their next performance at Electric Avenue on the 12th of July alongside Joycult, Chalk Blonde and Aliensincaves.

  • Finally back with a new episode of the podcast!

Today I am joined by Ren and Terence of the band, Ren Marabou and the Berserkers. They are a Viking Metal/Norse Pagan Rock band hailing from Donegal and have recently been signed with the Italian based Label Wormholedeath.

In this episode, we'll explore the origins of the band, their creative process, and the inspirations behind their unique sound, the stories and lyrically themes that are explored in their music and their fantastic album Helgafjell, which was released March and is right up there with some of my most listened to releases of the year. I really do mean this when I say it, there is quite literally nobody doing what these guys are doing in Ireland at the moment.

Major thank you and shout out to Craig (Sea High) for doing the sound for this episode. Get on to him if you need any sound help, he did an awesome job.

I loved recording this episode, the band are incredible so I hope you enjoy it!

  • My guests today are Adam and Mike of the Belfast Extreme Metal band, Sacred Noose!

Describing their sound as noise-laden, heavily discordant black, death & doom metal, I first caught this band live where they opened for Horrenda during their headline show in Fibbers a couple of months ago and was immediately hooked by the sheer sonic-assault of their performance.

I'll be chatting to the band about the fantastic EP that they released last year called 'Renounce the Flesh', which is some of the most uncompromising metal I've heard in a long time and I will also be chatting about the album the band are currently working on, which I really can't wait for already.

  • Today I am joined on the podcast by Sweet June to chat about her debut single, 'Poisoned Thoughts', which is going to be released on the 7th of June.

We'll be doing a deep dive into Sweet June's first foray into music, picking the Harp as her first instrument, working with Daniel De Burca and what it was like to record a song for the first time.

  • Today's guest on the podcast is Rory Sweeney!

Mostly known for acclaimed production work for artists such as Sello, Curtisy, Kojaque, Aoife Wolf, EMBY and Pippa Molony, Rory seamlessly traverses mainstream and experimental sounds. He is the current AVA Festival Producer of the Year recipient.

His work has landed him on countless end of year lists over the past 3 years, having seen support from several acclaimed artists such as Rejjie Snow, Lord Apex, Machine Girl, Objekt, Neffa T, Oblig, Kelly Moran, Sha Ru, MI EL, Will Bankhead, Maria Somerville, DJ Spit, J Colleran (MMOTHS) and Shampain.’

We will be primarily chatting about the album Rory just released, which is titled Carlos Danger Presents: Irish Hash Mafia, which features 12 MCs rapping over incredible beats that Rory made.

Irish Hash Mafia mixtape is a love letter to the DIY sound and ethos of 90s Southern Hip Hop, as well as a time capsule of the left field DIY sounds being explored by the Irish underground. Myself and a lot of the artists here are starting to get caught up in the cogs of the music industry and I think its important to put out this mixtape as an archive of the free spirited sounds we’ve been exploring together over the past 2-3 years.

The mixtape, While primarily being southern trap, also explores other fringe sounds, such as experimental grime and abstract hip hop amongst others.

  • Bicurious are back on the podcast for their third appearance!

I'll be chatting with Taran and Gav about their much anticipated second album and how the recording process is coming along.

We'll be discussing with the band what sets this album apart from their previous work, the themes explored in the album, going to the Zoo with Tom Peter and whole bunch of other topics. I've seen bits of the album live and it's safe to say from what I've seen so far, the band has something very special on their hands so here's your chance to hear your first little inkling into what that is.

They currently have a fundraiser in aid of the album running to help them make sure the album is released they way the band intended to and are giving away amazing perks to anyone who donates, one of which is includes getting the band to play in your house!

I really do love this band, very special place in this podcast as they were the first ever guests on it so it's always a great time to have them on for the chats.
