Chemistry teacher by day, epic street photographer by night, Knox Bertie has been obsessed with capturing the rarest moments in Sydney since he arrived from Canada more than a decade ago. His dark and sometimes dystopian images hint at his love for George Orwell and also show a side of the city that nobody expects, far from the blue skies and sandy beaches its the eastern suburbs. Such is the high calibre of Knox's work, it prompted legendary camera manufacturer Leica to make him its ambassador, an honour bestowed upon only the finest exponents of photography. Mez and Toby caught up with Knox to talk about his work, his progression, and of course his thoughts on Breaking Bad.

He dives deep into his craft and discusses some of his most emotional shoots, as well as regaling a coupe of funny tales, too. Thanks James, you're a true legend.

Welcome back to SEASON TWO of Click Click, Bang Bang – A Photography Podcast!
Yeh, we know it’s been a long time between chats, but to be fair we, like everyone on the planet, have been going through some shit! We trust you all survived and continue to survive, and we thought it was time to inject some normality back into the world by getting back to what we love doing – chatting about photography.
We took a very long break from the podcast for a few reasons, the main reason being as freelancers working in the arts and television we both lost a lot of work over the past couple of years and had to focus on keeping our heads above water. Which we are both happy to report, we did … just.
So, in this comeback episode, we catch up and discuss not only the state of our careers and what we’ve been up to, but the state of the Australian photographic community as a whole. We also let you in on what to expect in the new season of CCBB, and that's very exciting!!
So sit back and enjoy the next half hour. It's great to be back.

As photographers, we know all about ISO! That's why living in it is NO EXCUSE for letting your gear gather dust while you sit on your butt eating chips and watching rubbish on TV. Mez and Toby have been inspired by a bunch of inspiring ideas from photographers and film-makers they follow, and they throw out a few other ideas to keep you busy while the lockdown lingers. Take it all in, and let the creative juices flow!!

PANDEMIC!!!!! Yep, we're living it, but while the coronavirus crisis has brought down the world's economy, it hasn't stop Mez and Tobes putting together a podcast without breaking any distancing laws!! (Sorry about the temporarily iffy production values as a result.) But that economy could be crucial for a lot of photographers and other visual media creatives, so we've put together a little advice for Aussies to help them get through this freak chapter in our lives.

Let's talk about sex, baby .... Mez and Toby deep dive into a discussion about gender in photography that takes more twists and turns than an Agatha Christie novel. Speaking of novel, even coronavirus gets a mention as photojournalism, fashion, wedding and all other manner of photographic genres go under the biggest gender-bias microscope in the southern hemisphere.

Gaining consent isn't easy, especially when the subject you're looking to film or photograph is in a heightened state of distress. In this episode, Mez and Toby welcome Sean Brokenshire to the CCBB studio to discuss the intricacies of "informed consent". Having worked as a communications expert for a large NGO in some of the world's poorest countries over the past 10 years, Sean shares his thoughts on the rights and wrongs of gaining that consent from people living in poverty, often dealing with disease, and how even with consent, you still need to make a decision about whether or not to publish particular stories.

Still on the topic of photography competitions, Mez and Toby zero in on the entrants, and boy oh boy, are there some stories to be told here. It seems there are no limits to the lengths some people will go to in order to get ahead in the game, from the smallest comps to the most prestigious in the photography world. When money and prestige is the reward, play gets dirty very quickly, and even anteaters aren't safe!! What? Trust us ... just listen.

Toby and Mez are back from the festive break, but it’s been a bitter sweet holiday thanks to the Australian bushfire crisis. Some of the photography from the fire zones has been nothing short of phenomenal, and in this episode, we pay tribute to all the photographers working in some of the most dangerous conditions imaginable, and we also give you some options on where to donate if you want to help the relief effort.
We are taking a moment with a special episode to send a shout out to the photographers who have really put their lives on the line to bring us and the world these stories.

Ever been in a situation with your camera when you've really wanted to take a shot, but thought: "Damn, is this even legal?" You're not the only one. But what is the law? Listen in as our dynamic duo arms you with all the information you need to be able to shoot freely and fight back when someone says you can't.

What do Beyonce and Donald Trump's impeachment hearings have in common? Well, both are watched by millions and both have been shot by photographers using film cameras. But why would anyone use a film camera in those situations? Mez and Toby discuss why certain photographers choose to go "old-school", and how the decision on what kit you use and when can greatly affect your creative thinking and the results you get.

Have you ever had an image stolen? Do you know your rights if and when it happens? Toby reveals his confrontation with UK pop star FKA Twigs after she pinched one of his images a few years back, altered it, removed a watermark and published it to her Instagram without any credit whatsoever. Say what!!?? Yep, and that's just one incident!! The digital age has made this an all-too common occurrence, so listen in as Mez and Toby arm you with all the information you need to fight copyright infringers, no matter who they are.

It sounds like the next big hipster band name, but The Comparison Complex is something that actually lasts, and it can also make or break your creativity. That's why it's complex!! Mez and Toby discuss not only the dangers of comparing your work and yourself to others, but also the positive explosions that can go off when you nail this whole comparison thing. Do you panic about low like-counts, falling followers, not having cool ideas like the people you follow? Well, this one's for you!! Listen in, and listen good. Our dynamic duo has got your back.

Mez and Toby are back to help you navigate the crazy world of photographer rates, because one episode simply wasn't enough. In Part II, our fearless duo looks at so-called "services" for photographers that are either helping or hindering snappers from getting a start in an increasingly fragmented and under-valued industry. Speaking of "snapper" ... hmm, just listen for more!
