  • Everton’s challenging start to the season continues on Saturday afternoon as the Blues welcome Crystal Palace, with both teams looking for their first win of the season.
The news of an impending takeover at Goodison Park from The Friedkin Group has certainly lifted the spirits amongst Blues’ fans this week, however it’s on the pitch where Everton now need to put things right.
Sean Dyche may well be back to full strength given that Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson featured for the U21s on Sunday.
Branthwaite’s return can’t come soon enough given the fact Everton have leaked goals in their opening five games.
On today’s show, Ian Croll is joined by Tony Scott as they look ahead to Crystal Palace, picking their starting 11 for the match as well as giving their predictions.
Also on today’s show the lads discuss the takeover and what this means for Sean Dyche and the club as a whole. Finally, the lads talk over the comments from former Everton goalkeeper and club legend, Neville Southall.
All that and more on today’s Royal Blue Podcast.

  • Everton look set for a new dawn under new ownership after an agreement was reached between US billionaire Dan Friedkin and Everton owner Farhad Moshiri on Monday. The Friedkin Group have agreed to acquire the shares of Blue Heaven Holdings Limited.
What happens next is that the Friedkin Group will go through the necessary steps of obtaining approval via the Premier League’s owners and directors tests, the FA’s fit and proper persons test, and the Financial Conduct Authority’s test.
The process could take up to 12 weeks, but will likely be less than that, with no issues expected to arise, unlike what happened with the long-doomed bid to buy the club by 777 Partners.
To talk through the latest news coming out of Goodison Park, Reach PLC’s Business of Football Writer, Dave Powell joins Ian Croll on the Royal Blue Podcast as they take an in depth look into what this takeover means for Everton Football Club.

  • Reaction and debate following Everton’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. A good solid performance from Everton resulted in them picking up their first point of the season.
There were positives throughout, however, Leicester got themselves back in the game with the Blues relinquishing yet another lead.
Ian Croll, Chris Beesley and Gav Buckland discuss whether it was one point gained or two points dropped.
In other news, reports moved quickly today to reveal The Friedkin Group have agreed a deal to purchase a majority stake in Everton Football Club. The lads will discuss what this means as attention now turns to Crystal Palace at home this Saturday.
Jarrad Branthwaite came through an U21s match on Sunday afternoon and could be in contention for a starting place in a match the Blues really must win.

  • Chris Beesley speaks to an extra special guest for the ninth episode of our Goodison Park: My Home series as he is joined by David Moyes, the long serving and most successful Everton manager of the Premier League era.
Meeting in Lancashire, the pair discuss the Scot’s reign of over 11 years as Blues boss as he steered them to nine top half finishes – including a club record fourth position in the Premier League in 2004/05 – feats that brought him a hat-trick of LMA Manager of the Year awards.
Taking over a team that had finished in the top half just once in the first decade of the competition, a then 38-year-old Moyes arrived at Goodison Park in March 2002 and transformed a squad containing luminaries such as Paul Gascoigne and David Ginola into an upwardly mobile outfit with hungry young players.
The Scot lifts the lid on why he chose Everton; his coining of the phrase ‘The People’s Club’, transfer buys; big characters; trophy regrets following the FA Cup final and European run plus many other memorable moments at a unique football venue that he always tried to get the best out of and which remains dear to his heart. It’s a must watch for all True Blues…

  • John Textor is the frontrunner to take over at Everton but has to divest his interest in Crystal Palace first.
The club moved to distance themselves from comments made by prospective new owner on Thursday. But the US billionaire remains in pole position when it comes to being the next owner of the Toffees.
Textor, who holds a 45% shareholding in Crystal Palace, had previously been vocal about wanting to own Everton, and spoke about his desire to purchase the club once again.
On the field, Everton are preparing to face Aston Villa as Premier League football returns following the September international break.
The Blues currently sit bottom of the table on zero points with pressure building on Sean Dyche and his side to pick up their first win.
In Friday’s Royal Blue Podcast, Ian Croll, Joe Thomas and Gavin Buckland discuss and debate the latest news coming out of Goodison Park.

  • Leicester City have successfully argued that they can not be punished for PSR breaches as per the Premier League's own rules.
On Tuesday it was revealed that the Foxes, who were a Championship outfit in 2023-24 and won promotion back to English football’s top tier after a season away, would not face punishment for the breaches after winning an appeal against the Premier League. But how did they escape punishment?
Meanwhile, in other FFP related news, Chelsea have been cleared by the Premier League for the sale of two hotels to a sister company to keep them compliant with profit and sustainability rules.
Such transactions are not allowed in Uefa competitions, with Chelsea back in Europe in the Conference League this season, and in the English Football League after they closed the loophole in 2021, but the Premier League opted against following suit.
The Premier League remains open to closing the loophole through a future vote.
On today’s show, Ian Croll and Chris Beesley head into the Royal Blue studio to discuss all of the above, as well as much more!

  • Everton lost in remarkable circumstances at Goodison Park on Saturday after the Toffees surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Bournemouth.
Sean Dyche's side were winning comfortably with Iliman Ndiaye impressing before goals from the Cherries in the 87th, 92nd and 96th minutes completed an astonishing turnaround. Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin had netted for the Blues.
It leaves Everton losing three from three to begin their Premier League season.

  • Join Ian Croll and Joe Thomas for Friday’s Royal Blue Podcast as they discuss the latest news coming out of Everton on Deadline Day as well as preview Saturday’s encounter with Bournemouth!
Everton are set to do business on the final day of the summer transfer window.
A deal for Orel Mangala is set to be completed and would become the Blues’ seventh signing of the summer.
Elsewhere, there is the potential for further intrigue. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could become one of the biggest stories of the day should a club test the water for the forward.
Out of contract next summer and yet to sign on fresh terms, a serious bid for the 27-year-old would force Everton to weigh up the value of an incoming fee against the risk of losing the club’s main forward.
