  • Off the heel's of my conversation with Dr. Chris Palmer, I was asked a series of questions about real lifestyle changes people made that helped the metabolic make up of their brain.

Is there a list of lifestyle changes you, Gabby, have made this year?

What routines have you set up that really help?

  • My guest today is endocrinologist Dr. Jordan Geller. Dr. Geller approaches your hormone story like a mystery that is uniquely yours. He discusses that you may have the same diagnosis as another patient but how you get a desired outcome can be completely different. We discuss how men may have hormonal issues as well, but tend to put them on the back burner or ignore them. Dr. Geller shares what he sees in the area of infertility, weight gain, and sleeplessness and why women don't have to suffer through menopause. He shares possible strategies for navigating and balancing your hormones. Dr. Geller sees a lot of patients who are trying to figure out if they have a thyroid issue or hormonal imbalance and introduces the best first steps to solving the issues before medication. He is not opposed to medication but practices a step-by-step approach to finding a solution that may oftentimes fix the issue before needing to go on meds.
Dr. Geller walks the walk. He takes care of himself and is genuine about helping his patients.

  • In today's podcast, I decided to do a very basic overview on some of the buckets of health including breath work, movement, nutrition, community and purpose, sleep, stress, sex, and pain.
It felt like an important time to invite you to do an internal check in on all of these areas in your life as I am doing in my life. Are there shifts we can make in any of these areas?
We don't have to let the holiday season kick our ass so let’s see if we can challenge ourselves to start making the New Year's changes before the new year.

  • My guest today is Harvard medical physician Dr. Chris Palmer. Dr. Palmer has extensive experience in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. Paying close attention to the impact of the ketogenic diet on epileptic patients Dr. Palmer started exploring improving the lives of people suffering from mental illness with the same nutritional approach. The ketogenic diet is the most well-studied diet by neuroscientists for epileptic patients for 100 years. Dr. Palmer explains that it's not just the body that has a metabolic function but so does the brain. His latest book, Brain Energy, is an extensive science book for the general public. He treats patients with mild symptoms of depression, OCD, and eating disorders to patients who have severe conditions of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He has renewed his energy and excitement about the possibilities of truly helping people in the field of mental health not just with medication but with lifestyle. Enjoy!

  • My guest today is food advocate Vani Hari.
In 2011, Vani accidentally found herself creating a food blog called 'The Food Babe.' With a background in computer science and a career in banking and securities Vani’s own health journey led her to take a hard look at our food companies and what they are putting in our boxes and bags.
Remember when they asked Subway to take the chemical that's in yoga mats that makes it evenly airy and spongy out of their bread? That was Vani. She is in a role that she never chose to be in but is running with it in the most organized and potent way she can. An unintentional hero on my behalf, your behalf, and of the interest of our children's health.
Why would the large food companies put better ingredients in products they make for the European market because it's required, and still not do the same for the very same food that they sell on our shelves? Vani not only asks these questions but follows up to see if they've made the changes which oftentimes they do not. Chipotle telling us exactly what's in their food? A move inspired by Vani and the Food Babe crew.
A mother of two, wife, activist, and entrepreneur with her own food company Truvani.

  • Today's bonus stems off our chat with comedian Bert Kreischer and tackles themes around establishing and maintaining friendships and career pursuits later in life. Questions explores are:
Bert talked about friendship later in life. Can you speak to creating and maintaining (or letting go of) friendships and relationships as time progresses and we get older.

What do you look for with the team around you? Is it happenstance people come into our life? Do you make a careful effort to cultivate?

If you’re comfortable, share what your relationship has been with alcohol. And how decisions around it affected life, health, social settings, family, relationships, business, decision making.

  • We decided to shake things up a little bit and do an extensive conversation about pain, points of view on what type of relationship we should have with pain, how we can use pain to help us learn and grow and be better, and whether there are things out there and available modalities to help us get relief without having to take medication. This is Part Two of a multi-interview series. Today is with:

Doug Goldstein - a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic physical therapist. Doug helped me with a torn hip labrum with homework and exercises so I did not need to get surgery.

Engineer Jim Ohneck - creator of the epoch 980 laser that is proving to provide pain relief for people all around the world.

  • My guest today is integrative gastroenterologist Dr. Robynne Chutkan.
Studying at Yale University and then Columbia medical school, Dr. Chutkan took a job with Georgetown University Hospital. Then in 2004, she created the digestive center for wellness. Dr. Chutkan continues to help patients heal various health issues with proper nutrition and lifestyle choices from autoimmune disease, skin disease, eczema, asthma and so much more.
She even noticed that some underdeveloped countries have far fewer autoimmune diseases than our developed country. What was this based on?
Early in her practice, Dr. Chutkan saw patients improving their health drastically and finally asked them, “what are you doing differently?” Inspired by their improved results through healthy eating she started to explore this path. She is not opposed to medication, but she says there are quite a few options to getting better besides using medication as a first and only solution. Her latest book, 'The Anti-Viral Gut,' is out now. Enjoy!

  • My guest today is a clinical assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine and a licensed clinical psychologist: Dr. Yamalis Diaz.
Dr. Diaz specializes in ADHD and focuses on ways to put systems in place to support people with the diagnosis. What is happening that is different in the ADHD brain in structure and function? Dr. Diaz gives us a deeper understanding of what that child or adult is navigating and how we can help them. What have they discovered in the research in the last 10 years? How has our environment and technology have exacerbated the situation? She shares the meaningful impact of certain lifestyle habits and changes that can be made to make getting out of the house or the learning environment much easier. Like all situations that have unique challenges she gives us the wonderful reminder that when directed correctly this is a super power. Also if you are interested in more information on ADHD I would recommend the movie 'The Disruptors' directed by Stephanie Soechtig.

  • In this bonus ep off the heel's of Gabby's interview with Tim Ferriss, we flip the script, and Gabby answers some of Tim's classic questions he uses for his podcast "The Tim Ferriss Show." Questions Gabby touches upon are:

What is the book (or books) you’ve given most as a gift, and why? Or what are one to three books that have greatly influenced your life?

What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last six months (or in recent memory)? My readers love specifics like brand and model, where you found it, etc.

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a “favorite failure” of yours?

“f you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. (If helpful, it can be someone else’s quote: Are there any quotes you think of often or live your life by?)

What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made? (Could be an investment of money, time, energy, etc.)

What is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love?

In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?

What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the “real world”? What advice should they ignore?

What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do? (If helpful: What questions do you ask yourself?)

  • In this bonus episode, Gabby reflects on the previous episode with Dr. Trevor Cates and shares her personal journey with hormonal health and experimentation. We break down specific and practical takeaways on things you can test in your nutrition, fitness, and daily lives in order to give you more strength to tackle outside toxins. Questions explored:
What to buy organic and what you can pass on buying organic?
What supplements are you taking and why?
Do you put yogurt on your skin?
Functional stretches to open the body and combat our hunched over tech-neck postures.
You mentioned in the episode with Dr. Cates, you increased your protein intake "at the right time." What does that mean exactly? What were you doing before? What did you change? Did you notice changes - in body and mind?
Are there any tidbits on eating for hormonal health you can share?
Are there any products you've tried you can share? Without plugging any specific brand, have you tested and have any knowledge on specific essential oils.
Any other practical things if you feel like weighing on them: how to avoid double chin, why frozen vegetables are bad? Best ways to store veggies (if people can't afford organic stock up every week)?
