  • TW: Sexual Assault

This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I sat down with Specialist Trauma Therapist, Helen Ferguson, to talk about sexual trauma, recovery, and empowering yourself again! Helen specializes in childhood trauma and sexual abuse recovery, so I wanted to have her back on the podcast to provide a more professional take on sexual assault, since I’ve been discussing my experience a lot recently. Helen shares how both sexual assault & sexual abuse fall under the umbrella of sexual trauma. We also discuss common responses & behaviors people experience after experiencing these types of trauma, and how to recover & empower yourself through self compassion & healing. Also, Helen puts the rumor that “perfectionism is a trauma response” to rest. Listen now to hear our full conversation!

  • This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I am celebrating 1 year of podcasting! On this day 1 year ago, I released the first two episodes of the show. I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for the support and kind words you have given me over this last year. None of this would be possible without you! Today I am recapping how far I’ve come in the past year, what mistakes I’ve made, and what I’ve learned. I share how I started this show by healing my inner child, which has now unleashed my inner teenager, and how I’m healing her (and navigating all of her anger). In Therapy Think, I touch on how my inner teen is showing up now,  why I’m afraid of healing, and my newest passion project that will help me move forward. I also have a surprise for this segment of Serotonin Script, so be sure to stick around until the end of the episode!

  • This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I interviewed Mackenzie Edmiston, the co-owner of Green Goddess Candles. Mackenzie’s journey started when she took a drug prevention class in college, and that’s where she developed her love for CBD! During the pandemic, Mackenzie struggled with her own mental health, and decided she wanted to help educate others on the healthy and positive effects CBD can have. So, she teamed up with her mom, who is a nurse, to open Green Goddess! Since opening, Mack and her mom have aimed to provide a safe, educational, and judgment free environment in their store to help people find the relief they need. Listen to our full conversation now!

  • This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I am back with new brand colors! I ditched the maroon and bright yellow for green, pink, and a more earthy yellow. On the podcast I break down what happened in my week off from podcasting, why I rebranded, and how I’ve started preparing for seasonal depression. I get honest about my money struggles and the negative effect that is having on me as the holidays approach. I share how I’m finding value in mindfulness, leaning on healthy relationships, and taking back my power. Listen to the full episode now!

  • This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I covered a TON of topics! I started out by sharing what I learned from my own research this week about OCPD, specifically OCPD symptoms and how those compare to frequent internet users. This deep dive into research studies actually sparked an interesting conversation about mental health and birth control with my followers on Instagram. Listen to hear what I learned, what my followers shared on IG, and the full recap of my findings! (All forms of birth control that I mentioned in this episode are linked below. I encourage you to do your own research and talk to your doctor when making decisions about BC!)  This week in therapy, Tina and I covered what it means to be a “Human Being” vs. a “Human Doing,” and how our conversation last week impacted where I’m at now. I also share my multiple sources of serotonin.

  • Are You Wearing Your Trauma Backpack?

This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I go deep into my therapy session about the unresolved trauma that I’ve been carrying around. I started my session trying to resolve a minor miscommunication, and somehow ended up being smacked in the face with the root of all of my issues. Join me as I dive into the weight of my trauma, and the fear, anger, guilt, and shame that comes with it. I also share an eye opening conversation that I had with my mom this week about her own trauma, and the one thing that no one, not even trauma, can take away from you. Listen now to hear the details!

  • This week on The Search For Serotonin podcast, I’m talking about my search for um….?sobriety?...kind of...not really....idk just listen to find out. I use this solo episode to recap the past few weeks of my life, and how alcohol has played a part in my mental health journey. I discuss my past relationship with alcohol (& THC), and how it has evolved into a more intentional partnership over these past few weeks. My relationship with weed & alcohol has been weighing on me a lot lately, so I’m opening up about my inner thought process, and how I feel like a mental health “fraud”. Listen now to hear more!
