  • In this episode, we get the absolute pleasure of speaking with the founder of Athena Fight Wear, Charlie Stone Shoes, and fellow martial artist, Samantha Capello!

Sam is not new to the world of entrepreneurship with her business, Athena Fight Wear. Sam started her first business Charlie Stone Shoes out of necessity for a better dance shoe. She realized there was a need for better, beautiful and more comfortable and efficient shoe to dance in. From this she got to work and was able to make a very successful business out of it! Once this business was off the ground and able to be pretty much be self-sustaining, she found the need to begin her next business, Athena Fight Wear! This too was build out of necessity for Sam herself, but she knew that in each of these situations she was most likely not the only one dealing with the same issues. Women do not typically have uniforms specifically designed for their bodies in sports or martial arts. Typically we just have to figure out how to size ourselves off of the men's options and they call it "unisex." So Sam got to work in creating a clothing brand that better suited women in martial arts!

Through this conversation, Sam provides her story and details on how she was able to build her businesses successfully. We hope that her story, her advice, and her abilities give you the boost you need to know that you too, can create and build even stronger the business you want to build, or currently are running.

  • In today's episode, we get to speak with 3rd Degree JKD Black Belt, Entrepreneur, Stunt Performer, Stunt Choreographer, Actor, Instructor, Personal Trainer, and a good friend, Jénel Stevens-Thompson! Jénel is most globally known for her role in movies such as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Woman King, and several other movies and television series that you can find on her IMDb. Jénel is also the founder of Prowess Private training!

    In this episode we discuss:

Understanding that entrepreneurship and success is a “numbers game.” You have to follow up and try as many time and ways as you can with a specific focus and aim. “You can’t hit a target you can’t see [or that you don’t try to hit]”Continuity is important even if you have ups and downs with consistency. Returning to your goals and focus is what counts. Try to limit the inconsistency with time and practiceResearching what type of business you should have, and how to determine that (LLC, Corporation, Incorporation, S-CORP, etc.)Understanding the importance of saving for taxes and having someone who can help you if you don’t fully understand them (DON’T WAIT)!Knowing that in business and in life, you will get knocked down figuratively (and sometimes physically- especially if you are in martial arts), the important part to make sure you always get back up and keep pushing, and keep tryingYour timeline of profit v. loss might not be what you hoped and plan for, but be sure to adjust, adapt, and reevaluate along the way as well as just KEEP ON GOING!

  • In this episode, we had the honor of being able to speak with Olympic weightlifter, gymnast, personal trainer, and Founder of Semper Stronger, Rebecca Rouse! She shares her history in growing up doing gymnastics and how that helped her develop the discipline, strength and power within fitness and within her life and business to be better and every single day. She takes us through her life of moving from coast to coast and then finally to Texas and how that affected her business for the better or worse. We further discuss how although the pandemic was tragic for many and a terrible experience, we were able to grow and self-actualize from it in regards to trusting ourselves to create and build our own businesses. Sometimes it takes something big for us to be able to believe in ourselves wholly and understand that we should enjoy life each and every day while building, still preparing, and working towards the future of our dreams. Most importantly we realized how possible it all is.

“Don’t let fear guide your decisions… Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone.” -Rebecca Rouse

We hope this episode and all the others within this podcast will inspire you and let you know that we are in this together Warriors!

  • In this episode, we get to speak with Taekwondo Black Belt, Owner of Iron Dragon Martial Arts in Marietta, Georgia, Jalyn Croft Rangel. Jalyn and her husband took over the reigns of the school and made it there own in early 2019, their officially date of acquiring and switching the business over was in March, 2019, right when the pandemic hit. Find out how they were able to not only sustain their newly acquired business, but also build during the lockdown! If that isn't impressive enough, they also were able to maintain fulltime jobs then and still now while they run their school. Jalyn has also created a youtube channel (link below) on all the specific details and backend paperwork they had to do and go through in order to legalize everything within their business. In this episode we did not break down too much of that because she has a whole other channel just for that, so we go more into her experience in doing it all, how she was able to stay sane, and continue to build the kids and adult classes separately.

  • In today’s episode, we get to chat with, former Director of wine special projects at the renowned Momofuku and Eleven Madison Park restaurants, Founder of Bellus Wines and RAMONA, Jordan Salcito! Jordan delves into her journey in creating her now very successful business RAMONA and what it took to get there. She sheds light on the many changes and challenges she and her team faced along the way, to better help us navigate this world of entrepreneurship and give us perspective and understanding of how we too can make it happen for ourselves. But note, entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart, but it certainly helps to build a strong and resilient one!

    We further discuss:

Understanding the “why” in every business and personal decisionImportance of having problems to solve (not to necessarily create them, plenty make their appearance on their own)Rebranding in the course of your business buildingThe importance of holding your ground on your company’s values and morals. Knowing what you are putting in your body (that includes what it’s packaged in). Winning strategies in businessHow motherhood may not always be planned, but can certainly be a motivatorThat what you set out to do might not always be what you end up doing, or rather in the way you initially envisionThat growth is all about progress, process, re-evaluation, learning, understanding, and changing the way we see the world and thinkThat we have to do better with understanding our health and what we put in our bodies especially concerning products we consume and ingestThat not only ingredients of products themselves that we are consuming can contain dangerous carcinogens among other hazardous waste, but also the containers they are stored inThat companies don’t have to legally let you know that they used a small form of what would be poison when creating their productsDo what you love because YOU love it. The product, service, or goods you offer will be better for it as will the demand thereafterBe clear on the “problems” you are solving and WHY you are doing what you are doingDo what you are doing in service to something bigger and that is the winning strategy

Enjoy the show, and remember Warriors, we are in this together!

  • In today’s episode, we get to chat with American Author, Kristen Britain, about what it takes to become a full-time author in an industry primarily dominated by men. Kristen is the Author of the epic fantasy novel series, the Green Rider, and today we discuss the realities of transitioning your passion as your part time job, to your full-time career. This takes planning, understanding, sacrifice, and learning to budgeting accordingly, especially once you begin making money from your craft/ business.

Entrepreneurship is ever present in the Green Rider series, if you know how to look. Kristen has captured the heart of an entrepreneur and independent woman through the story telling of her characters and the resilience they demonstrate through times of unknown; through the feelings of frustration and loneliness when they commit to a journey alone that they have no idea how the outcome will play out; through the feelings of honor and pride from being independent but understanding you are part of a team that will have your back if you surround yourself with a good support system and learn to empathize with one another; and finally, through the development of who the characters once were and how they actively grow as a result of all they have been through (good, bad, and unexpected). As Warrior Women in the World of Entrepreneurship, we can all relate to these feelings and realities though they may look different to each of us.

Important aspects that helped shaped Kristen’s journey to becoming a full-time author include:

Being one of the few women that studied film production at Ithaca college during her time thereFeeling lost after college not knowing exactly which direction in life to takeLearning about women’s rights history pointed her to becoming a park ranger Understanding that writing has always been part of her life and creative processHow practice within your craft/ business is essential to the growth and development of your business. That we are never too big or too experienced to improve in what we doUnderstanding that perseverance and practice will pay off if you have patience, persistence, and a planLearning to not give up in the face of rejection, or sometimes in repeated rejectionKnowing your brand and to not sell out to a company that won’t represent you or the integrity of your work. *Choose the one that will value and honor your work and still pay you your worth*How messages and lessons are better received sometimes with subtlety and intelligence rather than forcefully. How to budget the advance you receive after you receive a book deal.
