  • The #NoExcuse Podcast is produced by the World Health Organization's Department for the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Misconduct. There is no excuse for sexual misconduct in the humanitarian or development sectors. Many people don’t want to think about the often-ignored topic of sexual misconduct by our personnel. Shining a light on this dark and painful topic is an important step to addressing it.

Poet, novelist, and survivor Dr. Maya Angelou wrote, “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” As she suggests, changing how we view the issue is half the battle. It is within this need to change our views in a space of learning that the #NoExcuse podcast was born.

Join us as we delve deep into the topic, share stories of work in the field, surface issues to prevention, and explore making zero tolerance for sexual misconduct a part of workplace culture - WHO's new normal. This podcast will examine different challenges and solutions through the perspectives of people who are already doing the work to create the change we need and want.

This podcast series contains discussions on sexual misconduct. Topics such as sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment may be discussed. Listener discretion is advised, and we encourage self-care and seeking professional support as needed.

Can Music Help You Fall Asleep?
Yes! According to this well referenced article from SleepFoundation.org:

Playing music before bed may decrease the time it takes to fall asleep and improve sleep quality.

Music has been shown to decrease levels of a stress hormone called cortisol.

Music triggers the release of dopamine, which can boost good feelings at bedtime and may help manage pain.

Try falling asleep to music that is relaxing or slower, around 60 to 80 beats per minute.

Parents know from experience that lullabies and gentle rhythms can help babies to fall asleep. Science supports this common observation, showing that children of all ages, from premature infants (research) to elementary school children (research), sleep better after listening to soothing melodies.
Fortunately, children aren’t the only ones who can benefit from lullabies before bedtime. People across age groups report better sleep quality after listening to calming music.
In one study, adults who listened to 45 minutes of music before going to sleep reported having better sleep quality beginning on the very first night (research). Even more encouraging is that this benefit appears to have a cumulative effect with study participants reporting better sleep the more often they incorporated music into their nightly routine.

Based on the above research findings and the millions of people who use relaxing music to sleep every night, why not try incorporating long-format relaxing music such as Dream Machine into your nightly routine?
