Hi, I’m Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. As a mother of twins with ADHD symptoms, I know what it means to parent a child who does not fit into the ‘box’ modern society has put children into. My mission is to help other parents of “that kid” feel less alone, more confident and more equipped by asking the tough questions to the professionals, gathering tools and resources and connecting with other moms who are wrestling with the same struggles.

If recording my journey as I seek a clear starting point, community and effort to normalize a life with children who are at times highly emotional, unregulated, unfocused, or the opposite- hyper focused, supports at least one parent, then my time is not wasted. And if it doesn’t, well, there’s documented proof that moms deserve a glass of wine.

    Cheers

  • Author of The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach, Simon Arnold and I speak about his experience as an adult with ADHD, and the coping mechanism he leaned into as a child and beyond.

In this episode you are going to learn tools for your children to take into the classroom setting, and hear an individual's experience living with ADHD unmedicated, and medicated.

    Guest Bio

    Simon Arnold

I am the author of The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach, a detailed biography of living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and having to design my own success strategies because no help was available. I found the strategies to be so useful, I was finding my life was getting better and better. I had to share my new found strategies with everyone. So I launched a podcast of the same name.

In The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach Podcast, I talk with guests about a topic to help people with ADHD (and those that think they have it) to live an amazing life. I am currently on the forth season and already have guests lined up for season five. I have found that as I use my own strategies and learn from my guests, I am constantly refining these ADHD skills, which is now categoried as HFADHD (High Functioning ADHD).

A second book is currently being written, I am fluent in both German and English and believe people with ADHD can really change themselves and their world for the better.

  • Do you ever question

Should your ‘out of the box’ child have a traditional diagnosis?Should you tell your child about their diagnosis ? If so, when and what do you say?  What are the emotional consequences for your child that comes with knowing, or not knowing, about a diagnosis?

In today’s episode, I speak with Jada D’Angelo, a school counselor and neuroscience enthusiast. Jada and I speak candidly about raising children with ADHD and the cause and effects of having a child traditionally diagnosed and what comes with sharing, or not sharing, the diagnosis with your child.

    About Jada

“For as long as I can remember I have loved people. As a young adult I quickly became a self-proclaimed psycho-social geek and began studying anything I could get my hands on relating to holistic wellness.

Fueled by these interests I pursued a career in education. I obtained a double major in Integrative Education as well Waldorf Education for my Master’s degree and was able to teach for more than a decade in public and private schools in three countries. I taught preschool all the way through high school and had the honor to enter into the precious lives of students with a large spectrum of social, cultural, and neuro-diversity. After years in the classroom I harnessed my love for hearing someone’s story and advocating for their sense of success and joy and pursued a post- Master’s degree in School Counseling. Working with students and families one on one is my heart song and I find great joy in igniting the pilot light within others. For the past several years I have been working with private clients as well as in the private and public school sector as a counselor.

When I am not intently listening or training myself on the latest neurscience, I enjoy doing all things outdoors, traveling, and snapping pictures, and hanging with my family (humans and fur) crew. And, as you can imagine, I am always up for listening to a great story."

  • You have probably heard of the three most noted forms of ADHD

    ●     Inattentive type

    ●     Hyperactive-impulsive type

    ●     Combination type

BUT did you know there are actually seven different types of ADD/ADHD?

In this episode, I speak with Annie Bush, a nationally-recognized Certified Brain Health Coach. Annie shares about the seven different types of ADD/ADHD and how understanding an individual's genetic makeup can provide personalized support for optimal brain health.

    Guest Bio:

After spending over 10 years as a Federal and State Prosecutor, Annie Bush changed her focus to health and wellness education, and connecting the physical body with the spiritual mind. Over the last decade, her mantra has been, “It’s hard to have a clear thought with a toxic body.” As a nationally-recognized Certified Brain Health Coach under both Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Dale Bredesen, she helps clear the physical brain of cognitive conditions such as ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Dementia, and customizes holistic protocols addressing these conditions. Using 3X4 Genetics, she utilizes your own DNA as your health blueprint to drive your lifestyle choices regarding exercise, nutrition, and sleep for your optimal health. She uses photobiomodulation to stimulate the production of your own stem cells, including brain cells, using the Lifewave stem cell activation patches.

  • “Taking care of your mental health is not selfish. A healthy mom is a great gift to a child”- Unknown.

Parenting a child with high demands can wreak havoc on your brain and your soul if you, the parent, do not prioritize your mental health and focus on the joy.

But who has time for that? And how can you find joy when the stress and demands of raising a high needs child is unbearable?

Today’s episode will give you practical tools to support your mental health while once again finding the joy in parenting and life.

    About the Guest:

In this episode, I speak with Amanda Newbry, a joy seeking mum and blogger, from central England, who battled her own mental health after having her two children. Through personal experience and growth, Amanda created a ‘Mumtastic life’ for herself using a six step formula that not only supports the parent's mental health but empowers the parent to find their joy.

    About the Host:

Hi, I’m Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. As a mother to a highly sensitive little boy, I know what it means to parent a child who does not fit into the ‘box’ modern society has put children into. My mission is to help other parents of “that kid” feel less alone, more confident and more equipped by asking the tough questions to the professionals, gathering tools and resources and connecting with other moms who are wrestling with the same struggles.

If recording my journey as I seek a clear starting point, community and effort to normalize a life with a highly emotional, sometimes out of control child, supports at least one parent, then my time is not wasted. And if it doesn’t well, there’s documented proof that moms deserve a glass of wine.

    Cheers

  • Can’t you just sit still !?!

How many times has your child heard this?

This episode shares a must-have tool for those kids who are in need of movement to support their focus and concentration without creating a ruckus in the classroom. I speak to a mom, Jodi Whalen, who took her child’s need for ‘extra support’ and turned it into a practical must-have tool for kids both in school and at home.

  • An encore presentation of episode 8, originally aired on October 30, 2019.

Do you have a kid filled with big emotions and sometimes debilitating fears and anxiety? In this episode, I speak with Sharon Hudson about the need for supporting children along the self-love and self-empowerment journey. Sharon shares how she helps teach self-empowerment and self-love for all children.

Sharon Hudson is a children’s book author, life coach, teacher, and founder of Dream Beautiful LLC.  Her mission is to enlighten youth to the power of the mind and the heart and to use this empowerment to create balance, self-love, and joy in their lives. Sharon is a School Teacher who has observed many students with anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem. Her heart eventually led her to want to help kids gain the knowledge and skills to help them handle the ups and downs of life and to gain the confidence to achieve anything they dream of.  She teaches many skills such as meditation, visualization, power shifting, and positive self-talk.

Sharon has a Bachelor's in Psychology, a Masters in Education and she is Wisdom Coach certified through Adventures in Wisdom.  Along with life coaching, she also teaches science part-time at Kirby Hall School.  She loves science and spirituality and finds great joy in connecting the two in her coaching sessions.
