Nayyera is a broadcast journalist and host who tells the stories of how democracy works â and doesn't work â for all kinds of people. Nayyera has interviewed global leaders and local activists, drawing on years spent in the trenches of the nationâs most competitive campaigns and in the halls of government working to resolve global challenges. Nayyera is the rare host with a nuanced understanding of both domestic and international current affairs.
Nayyera regularly hosts multiple hours of programming a day on cable television and satellite radio. Nayyera most recently launched and anchored the Black News Channel's two-hour, nightly newscast, The World Tonight. As the network's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Nayyera's editorial lens highlighted the people at the heart of policy and communities caught in conflict. Her versatility as a broadcast host also found her filling in for the network's prime time programs.
Prior to her media work, Nayyera served as a Senior Director in the White House helping implement the Presidentâs agenda on national security and economic policy. She served in the State Department as a spokesperson explaining U.S. foreign policy to audiences around the world. Nayyeraâs global experience is based on a foundation of understanding U.S. politics and culture, having spent several years helping Members of Congress connect with their local communities. Overall, Nayyera's work has connected her to nearly all 50 states and 30 countries.
As immigrants from Pakistan who settled in Staten Island, New York, Nayyeraâs parents â a physician and a public school teacher â instilled in her a commitment to public service. From an early age, Nayyera has sought to understand how the American Dream worked for her while others around the world struggle. A traveller by nature and then by profession, Nayyeraâs explorations have taken her from debates in the U.S. Congress and the Israeli Knesset, to hiking in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, to roaming the streets of London and Lahore.
Nayyera received a Masters from Georgetown University Law Center and studied history at the University of Michigan. She lives in Maryland with her veterinarian husband and two kids under five. She wants a dog again but has agreed to wait until the family is done with diapers. Nayyera finds zen while scuba diving, which is not as often as she would like.

Christian Finnegan is an American stand-up comedian, writer and actor based in New York City. BUY HIS NEW ALBUM--- "Show Your Work: Live at QED" Finnegan is perhaps best known as one of the original panelists on VH1's Best Week Ever and as Chad, the only white roommate in the âMad Real Worldâ sketch on Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show. Additional television appearances as himself or performing stand up have included âConanâ, âThe Late Late Show with Craig Fergusonâ, "Would You Rather...with Graham Norton", âGood Afternoon Americaâ and multiple times on The Today Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann, and on History's I Love the 1880s. He hosted TV Land's game show "Game Time". As an actor, Finnegan portrayed the supporting role of "Carl" in the film Eden Court, a ticket agent in "Knight and Day" and several guest roles including a talk show host on "The Good Wife". In October 2006, Finnegan's debut stand up comedy CD titled Two For Flinching was released by Comedy Central Records, with a follow-up national tour of college campuses from January to April 2007. âAu Contraire!â was released by Warner Bros. Records in 2009. My conversation with Tim Wise begins after news and clips at about 20 minutes
Tim Wise Link Tree Join Tim and lots of other brilliant voices at CRT Summer School. Tim Wise, whom scholar and philosopher Cornel West calls, âA vanilla brother in the tradition of (abolitionist) John Brown,â is among the nationâs most prominent antiracist essayists and educators. He has spent the past 25 years speaking to audiences in all 50 states, on over 1000 college and high school campuses, at hundreds of professional and academic conferences, and to community groups across the nation. He has also lectured internationally in Canada and Bermuda, and has trained corporate, government, law enforcement and medical industry professionals on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions. Wiseâs antiracism work traces back to his days as a college activist in the 1980s, fighting for divestment from (and economic sanctions against) apartheid South Africa. After graduation, he threw himself into social justice efforts full-time, as a Youth Coordinator and Associate Director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Racism and Nazism: the largest of the many groups organized in the early 1990s to defeat the political candidacies of white supremacist and former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. From there, he became a community organizer in New Orleansâ public housing, and a policy analyst for a childrenâs advocacy group focused on combatting poverty and economic inequity. He has served as an adjunct professor at the Smith College School of Social Work, in Northampton, MA., and from 1999-2003 was an advisor to the Fisk University Race Relations Institute in Nashville, TN. Wise is the author of seven books, including his highly-acclaimed memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son, as well as Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority, and Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America. His forthcoming book, White LIES Matter: Race, Crime and the Politics of Fear in America, will be released in 2018. His essays have appeared on Alternet, Salon, Huffington Post, Counterpunch, Black Commentator, BK Nation, Z Magazine and The Root, which recently named Wise one of the â8 Wokest White People We Know.â Wise has been featured in several documentaries, including âThe Great White Hoax: Donald Trump and the Politics of Race and Class in America,â and âWhite Like Me: Race, Racism and White Privilege in America,â both from the Media Education Foundation. He also appeared alongside legendary scholar and activist, Angela Davis, in the 2011 documentary, âVocabulary of Change.â In this public dialogue between the two activists, Davis and Wise discussed the connections between issues of race, class, gender, sexuality and militarism, as well as inter-generational movement building and the prospects for social change. Wise is also one of five personsâincluding President Barack Obamaâinterviewed for a video exhibition on race relations in America, featured at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC. Additionally, his media presence includes dozens of appearances on CNN, MSNBC and NPR, feature interviews on ABCâs 20/20 and CBSâs 48 Hours, as well as videos posted on YouTube, Facebook and other social media platforms that have received over 20 million views. His podcast, âSpeak Out with Tim Wise,â launched this fall and features weekly interviews with activists, scholars and artists about movement building and strategies for social change. Glenn Kirschner is a former federal prosecutor with 30 years of trial experience. He served in the U.S. Attorneyâs Office for the District of Columbia for 24 years, rising to the position of Chief of the Homicide Section. In that capacity, Glenn supervised 30 homicide prosecutors and oversaw all homicide grand jury investigations and prosecutions in Washington, DC. Prior to joining the DC U.S. Attorneyâs Office, Glenn served more than six years on active duty as an Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) prosecutor, trying court-martial cases and handling criminal appeals, including espionage and death penalty cases.
Glenn tried hundreds of cases in his 30 years as a prosecutor, including more than 50 murder trials, multiple lengthy RICO trials and precedent-setting cases.

Segall graduated from Emory University, Phi Beta Kappa 27 and summa cum laude, and from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was the research editor for the Law Review and member of Order of the Coif. He clerked for the Chief Judge Charles Moye Jr. for the Northern District of Georgia, and Albert J. Henderson of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. After his clerkships, Segall worked for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and the U.S. Department of Justice, before joining the Georgia State faculty in 1991.
Segall teaches federal courts and constitutional law I and II. He is the author of the books Originalism as Faith and Supreme Myths: Why the Supreme Court is not a Court and its Justices are not Judges. His articles on constitutional law have appeared in, among others, the Harvard Law Review Forum, the Stanford Law Review On Line, the UCLA Law Review, the George Washington Law Review, the Washington University Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, the Northwestern University Law Review Colloquy, and Constitutional Commentary among many others.

David Daley is a senior fellow for FairVote and the author of Ratf**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America's Democracy, which helped spark the recent drive to reform gerrymandering. Dave's second book, Unrigged: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy, chronicles the victories and defeats in state efforts to reform elections and uphold voting rights. A frequent lecturer and media source about gerrymandering, he is the former editor-in-chief of Salon.com, and the former CEO and publisher of the Connecticut News Project. He is a digital media fellow at the Wilson Center for the Humanities and the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, The Washington Post, The Guardian, New York magazine, the Atlantic, the Boston Globe, Rolling Stone, Details, and he's been on CNN and NPR. White, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), grew up in Sandersville, Mississippi, population 731, in a blue-collar family. His father and grandfather were oilfield pumpers, and his mother and grandmother were public school teachers. On the weekends, his father was music minister at their small country church, and his mother played the organ. Shad went on to earn degrees from the University of Mississippi, the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and Harvard Law School.
White was appointed the 42nd State Auditor of Mississippi in July 2018 and won election to the office after establishing a tough, no-nonsense reputation. Prior to becoming Auditor, White served as a special prosecutor, won ethics cases against politicians who broke the law, and earned a certificate in forensic accounting (the use of accounting to discover fraud) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also serves in the military as a captain in the Mississippi National Guard.
Today Shad, his wife Rina and their children live in Rankin County and are faithful members at St. Richard Church.

Andrew Spar is president of the Florida Education Association, the stateâs largest association of professional employees.
Spar was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City, attending public schools. A violinist since age 6, he earned his bachelorâs degree in music education from Ohio State University, graduating in 1994.
That same year, he went to Daytona Beach to teach at Turie T. Small Elementary School, where more than 90 percent of the students lived in poverty. The music teacher soon found his voice as an advocate and has worked ever since on behalf of public school students, schools, teachers and education staff professionals.
âI could not read when I was in first grade,â Spar recalls. âI struggled in school. But the educators in my life were empowered to make my success a priority, and thatâs just what they did. I want the same world for my family and for all of Floridaâs children.â
At Turie T. Small, Spar served as school-improvement chair for two years and as a union steward for seven years. He would go on to become president of his local union in May 2003 and led Volusia United Educators until he was elected FEA vice president in 2018. In September 2020, he was named FEA president after the previous president, Fedrick C. Ingram, was elected secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers.
During his 15 years leading the Volusia union, Spar negotiated 14 contracts, handled numerous grievances and arbitrations, and spent many long hours advocating for members and working families.
In 2017, he led the merger of the Volusia Teachers Organization and the Volusia Educational Support Association to create Volusia United Educators(link is external). The new union has nearly 3,800 members and represents more than 6,000 teachers, paraprofessionals and office specialists in Volusia County Schools.
Throughout his career, Spar has served on committees and task forces for the AFT. At FEA, he spent eight years on the executive cabinet. He also has served on the executive board of the Florida AFL-CIO(link is external) and was secretary-treasurer of the organization from January 2016 until September 2020.
Sparâs wife, Vernell, is also a public school music teacher. The Spars have two daughters; both girls attend public schools.

When not writing comedy, Maura has worked extensively with non-profits in diverse sectors including political action campaigns, international arts collectives and health and human services organizations. Bill Boyle is a well sourced and connected businessman who lives in Washington DC with his wife and son. Bill is a trusted friend and source for me who I met after he listened and became a regular and highly respected caller of my siriusxm radio show. Bill is a voracious reader and listeners love to hear his take. I think his analysis is as sharp as anyone you will hear on radio or TV and he has well placed friends across the federal government who are always talking to him.
