Our first series W.C. Handy, the Founding Father of American Music, weaves the tale of the man who first took a rustic music from the Mississippi delta, turned it into an international phenomenon, and made blues music sing for everyone, everywhere.

Every day I post a variety of Album Anniversaries, albums that came out on a given day in history. It's kind of like celebrating the birthday of a close friend. Twitter doesn't always give you enough space to talk about the albums. Instead I come here and take a more in-depth look at some of my favorites from the week. I tend to focus on ska, punk, and alternative rock, and a variety of Christian (CCM) music albums.

A lipstick pickup is an electric guitar pickup with a captivating sound and appearance that has a devoted cult following that grows with each passing year. True to their name, they were originally chrome lipstick tubes stuffed with magnets and electronics that were the inspired invention of Nathan Daniel, founder of Danelectro. Born from his genius instinct for innovation as well as his devotion to a "rigid cost control" philosophy, they were an essential component of the guitars that helped stoke an affordable rock-n-roll revolution.
The Lipstick Pickup Podcast is an amateur (but very inspired) unscripted, unedited conversation devoted to the entirety of the subject. Hosted by Emily Walters (a music lover in Nashville) and Robert Maché (a professional guitarist in Memphis), The Lipstick Pickup Podcast is a fan friendly primer on the subject of American music history. The first 19 episodes can be enjoyed sequentially or at random, but we hope you'll take it from the top and enjoy new weekly episodes. -
