  • Can We Just Ask: What's the good news?

The world has been turned upside down, it can be quite difficult to take and really hard to manage some days. So instead of continuing the same conversations that we hear on the news every day, we've decided to create our own positive news bulletin. Every Tuesday and Friday we'll bring 2 stories or initiatives each that we've come across to the show, to hopefully shine some light in the darkness.

Whether it's businesses adapting to help those in need, new charities popping up or just people helping to spread joy - we hope our 10-15 minute episodes can bring you some happiness every week.

This is the first episode of What's the good news? and today, we're talking about an acai business who found themselves with a little bit too much acai, a charity helping children get nutritious school meals from home, Help the Elderly - a charity helping the most vulnerable people in society, and a car business lending their fleet to some tired bums.

For more info on each of the stories we mentioned, you can find them here or sign up to our newsletter.

    Chefs in Schools: https://www.chefsinschools.org.uk/

  • It's the final episode of season 1! We are so grateful to each of every one of you who has listened, sent us questions or come to an event. In episode 10, CWJA hosts Annie Clarke and Will Clempner discuss the over-arching question of How can we stand for a better tomorrow? The theme of the whole season has been focussed on inspiring change, and we look back over the panel discussions and interviews from the previous 9 episodes to hopefully do exactly that.

Annie and Will share their own thoughts on the panel discussions on masculinity, gender equality, activist and social enterprise and also give a little hint about what might be to come in Season 2.

TOMS have been our partner for the whole series, and we can't thank them enough for their support.

If you want to send us a question or topic for next season, you can get in touch with us on instagram or on our website www.canwejustask.co

We hope you enjoy listening and we'll be back in 2020!

  • This episode of the Can We Just Ask Podcast in partnership with TOMS was recorded live, with a panel of four guests. This the second of our episodes on activism, and the focus of the discussion is on the question - Can Anyone Be An Activist? with questions from our audience as well as CWJA hosts Annie Clarke and Will Clempner.

The panel includes activist and writer Gina Martin, documentary photographer and filmmaker Alice Aedy, presenter and broadcaster Richie Brave and Deputy CEO of The Diana Award - Alex Holmes.

We discuss the challenges activists face, where people can start when wanting to create change, what the role of government is and ultimately - whether everyone can and should be an activist.

We're very proud that all of the proceeds from this event went to our charity partner The Mix, and all of the tickets were sold via ethical ticket platform Ticketpass HQ.

This is the final live panel discussion of season 1, we will be back in 2020 for season 2 and you can find more information on our website www.canwejustask.co

  • In this episode we chat to Thais and Angelina from Gucci Gang, a collective of Parisian creatives who have started Safe Place - an online community to support women with the aim of changing the gender conversation entirely. Their work involves allowing women a safe space in which to talk and to ultimately create change - which brings us onto the wider conversation of how groups of individuals can actually make a difference?

This is the first of two episodes that will dive into the topic of activism, with the next one being a live panel discussion on November 20th in London.

Angelina, Thais, Annie and Will share personal stories that explore why the world of activism is changing, how we ensure we don't put people off by the large-scale, media grabbing headlines of spokesperson-led activism and ultimately ask, can small voices ever make a big enough difference?

If you are affected by anything discussed in this episode, please speak to a professional. We are not experts, and everything we talk about is from personal experience. Our charity partner for the series is The Mix UK, who provide essential support for Under 25 year olds, and would be a good place to start if you want someone to talk to.

TOMS, our partner for the episode, are also partnering with Gucci Gang to bring Safe Place events to women in Paris, allowing them to build communities, share and grow as a movement.

This episode was recorded at L'Orangerie Studio in Paris.

Our next panel, which will be recorded as Can We Just Ask episode 9, is entitled 'Why are women still paying for their sex?' on November 20th. For tickets visit https://ticketpass.org/event/EQRFKX
