Our listener this week struggles to understand the dynamics of their relationship.Denied children because she wasn't a good enough stepmother, and called 'sexless' for not making more effort with intimacy.
As she hides part of herself to keep the peace she asks us: Are her expectations too high? Is she being emotionally abused? And will she be responsible if she leaves and he hurts himself?
As ever, psychotherapists Helen Villiers & Katie McKenna explain what's happening and how to move forward.
**** TW: This episode discusses suicide and the threat of suicide as a manipulation tactic in relationships****

Our listener this week was constantly side swiped by news about her absent father's new children, and relied on heavily by her mother to parent her younger siblings. Now as an adult with a life and career of her own, still supporting her youngest sibling we answer the question - How do we live with the grief of estrangement, and how on earth do we build a lasting sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

Katie and Helen discuss this weeks letter and where the social rules and boundaries allow people to victimise us through gift giving. Our listener this week is asked for expensive gifts but given broken, used and unusable gifts each year. This week our listener asks how to help her son, the golden grandchild cope with her choice to go no contact with her mother, his grandmother.
We explore how our listener's mother destroys boundaries over and over again, and how she prioritsed her image above her daughter's safety, and her grandchildren's safety. When things come to a head because the mother sides with our listener's abusive ex husband our listener has no choice but to go no contact with her mother.
Feeling certain she's doing the right thing, she's now faced with supporting the grief of her son who misses the 'loving grandma' who adored him, but ignored his siblings.
