    About Ian Small

Ian Small is CEO at Evernote, the app that launched a personal productivity movement for knowledge workers around the world. Under Ianā€™s leadership, Evernote has found the courage to get back to basics, launching a new era for the company and building upon a decade of growth.

Ian brings more than 25 years of global product, technology, and business leadership experience to his current role. Trained as an engineer, Ian's career has evolved from designing and building user experiences at Apple into product leadership and large-scale business management as CEO of TokBox and global Chief Data Officer for TelefĆ³nica SA.

In addition to his current role at Evernote, Ian sits on the board of directors for Lumentum and is an advisory board member for Alphabet subsidiary Loon (a graduate of Googleā€™s X Lab). He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto, and has earned more than 10 patents.

Hello, and welcome to Getting More Done With Evernote, Episode 005.

    In this episode:

Evernote ranked against other note-taking software...my rant and a few notes on better comparative analyses when discussing software. Evernote for Linux may be happening? CEO Ian Small responds to The New York Times piece (in which he was interviewed). Evernote for macOS 7.12 has released.

Iā€™m your host, Ray Sidney-Smith, Evernote user since 2009, Evernote Certified Consultant and Evernote Regional Leader for North America. As you can imagine, I love Evernote. And, with Getting More Done With Evernote, I hope to help everyone love Evernote, or at least enjoy digital note-taking, a little more with each episode.

The Verge recently published an article, ā€œThe Best Note-taking Apps for Class, Work, and Life.ā€ I rant about its flawed comparisons of note-taking software on the market today to fit ā€œclass, work and life.ā€

There are better comparisons of note-taking software out there, these among them:

Comparison of note-taking software The 10 Best Note Taking Apps in 2018 The Best Note-Taking Apps of 2019*

*The article author noted that the max file upload size was 50MB and thatā€™s not accurate. You can upload files up to the size of the note size limit, which is 25 MB for Evernote Basic, and 200 MB for Evernote Premium accounts.

Next, Evernote showed up in The New York Times, in an article, ā€œA Unicorn Lost in the Valley, Evernote Blows Up the ā€˜Fail Fastā€™ Gospel.ā€

On the whole, I thought it closed positively about Evernote and its current state.

Ian Small responded in the Evernote discussion forum.

Continuing on, Iā€™ve seen hints of this for some time, but this is the first time Iā€™ve seen an Evernote Employee explicitly say so publicly. And so, Evernote for Linux sounds like itā€™s coming soon! Finally, Evernote for macOS 7.12 has released.

Note: Version 7.12 and updates going forward will only support macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or higher (10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina and beyond).

  •  Hello, and welcome to Getting More Done With Evernote.

Do you use Evernote? Or, have an interest in keeping up with the Evernote product suite? Do you want to learn more about note-taking techniques and digital workflow design?

Then, youā€™ve come to the right place. Each week Iā€™ll dive into the latest, important changes to Evernote across the entire platform, have discussions with Evernoters, experts and users across the community on getting more done with Evernote.

Iā€™m your host, Ray Sidney-Smith, Evernote user since 2009, Evernote Certified Consultant and Evernote Regional Leader for North America. As you can imagine, I love Evernote. And, with Getting More Done With Evernote, I hope to help everyone love Evernote, or at least digital note-taking, a little more.

In addition to our timely product updates and expert interviews, I want to make this interactive with you, to bring you into the conversation. Do you have a question about how to make Evernote work with your workflow? Perhaps you need to build out Evernote for real estate transaction tracking. Or, you want help rethinking how Evernote can track your projects or tasks using Personal Kanban, or Getting Things Done (GTD)? Send us your Evernote questions and conundrums, and if weā€™re able to answer it, weā€™ll read or play it and answer it here on the podcast.
