  • It’s time for another episode of Movies that Make Us episode and we’re diving into the cultural phenomenon of 2023 that generated memes and huge box office results…Barbenheimer.

We start the episode with our thoughts on Oppenheimer, where we all agree about the strength of the film on a technical level, but Valerie enjoyed it more than Jake and Tracy. Barbie comes next with all of us thinking the film is great and Valerie and Jake discuss how their daughters reacted to the film.

Next week, we’re going back to the vault and discussing the Tom Cruise film “Days of Thunder” so make sure you tune in for our thoughts!

  • Welcome back to another week at Movies that Make Us! We’re back from our trip to Disneyland where we successfully completed a 10k (6.2 miles) of running through the parks, and raising money for American Cancer Society. We recap a bit about the race and then we dive into a movie you may have overlooked in The Holdovers.

A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England prep school remains on campus during Christmas break to babysit a handful of students with nowhere to go. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school's head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War. This film is one of our favorites from 2023 and we highly encourage you to check it out.

  • Welcome back to another episode of Movies that Make Us. This week we are talking about some of our favorite films of 2023. These aren’t necessarily the films we feel will be Best Picture nominees, but ones that surprised and entertained us.

Films like Across the Spiderverse, Barbie, The Holdovers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more are discussed, and we even talk about a few films that we were disappointed with.

What are your favorite films of this year? Let us know on social media or you can reach us at [email protected]

  • Welcome back to another week at Movies that Make Us! There’s a lot of movies to check out at the theater this Christmas holiday, and we are talking about a great film we feel might get lost in the shuffle, The Iron Claw.

This is the true story of the Von Erich family who were famous wrestlers in the Texas territories, but the tragedies they suffer outside of the ring are the heart of the movie. Zac Efron gives a career performance and the rest of the supporting cast shine bright in their ensemble roles. You don’t need to be a wrestling fan to appreciate this movie, and we definitely recommend you see it in theaters.

  • It’s time for another episode of Movies that Make Us episode and we’re discussing films from the years we were born.

This is a fun episode since we were all born in different years, and so we suggest a variety of different films. The years are 1975, 1979, and Jake hit the jackpot with 1982.

In the coming weeks, we will be discussing the Marvel shows and movies released this year, Next Goal Wins, and all the films up for awards season. We’ll also be running the 10k race in Disneyland in January, so expect to see some fun shenanigans from us.

Hello and welcome back to Movies that Make Us.

This week, we’re bringing back our Staff Picks show where each of us select different movies based on a theme. With Halloween right around the corner, we discuss our favorite creatures. Some of these creatures are friendly like Jake’s selection of ET, while some are straight out of nightmares like James Cameron’s Alien Queen that Tracy selected. Val explores the creatures that exist in The Mist and the monsters that hide inside the hearts of men. Each of us select three creatures that we love and can’t wait to share them with you!

What did you think of our selections? What are some of your favorite cinematic creatures?

High school student David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) unwittingly hacks into a military supercomputer while searching for new video games to play. After starting a game of Global Thermonuclear War, lightman accidentally has the supercomputer activate the nation’s nuclear arsenal in response to his simulated threat as the Soviet Union. Welcome back to the latest episode of Movies that Make Us!

We’re excited to be back after missing a few weeks! Val is on the road at a convention in Portland, but Tracy and Jake discuss the Salt Lake FanX event that happened over the weekend. We were both on several panels and discuss what the show was like during the SAG and WG strikes that are happening. We got to meet with a few fans of the show, some fellow panelists, and local artists like Adrian Ropp. We also want to remind you that Movies that Make Us will be hosting a Disney trivia night on November 3rd at the Midway to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Welcome back to the latest episode of Movies that Make Us!

This week, we are talking about a powerful little film in Lion starring Dev Patel, Nichole Kidman, Sunny Pawar, and Saroo Brierly. Based on a true story, the film is set in India where a young boy falls asleep on a train and it takes him 1,000 miles from his home where he struggles to survive and doesn’t speak the regional language. After escaping from several dangerous situations, he is taken to an orphanage where he is eventually adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult, he strives to find his Indian family and reunites with them using Google Earth.

We highly recommend this movie and you can stream it for free on Tubi.TV, the Roku channel, or download for purchase.

Filled with iconic moments ranging from Large Marge to dancing to Tequila on the bartop in front of a biker gang, and more.

Welcome back to another episode of Movies that Make Us. We’re kicking off summer with INDIANA JUNE! That’s right, we are discussing the Indiana Jones franchise films all month leading into his latest adventure Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was the very first film we ever discussed and was our second episode ever after our introductions. We are huge fans of Indy and today we talk about The Temple of Doom. The 1984 film has some great set pieces and stirred a lot of controversy with the darker themes, causing the MPAA to later install the PG-13 rating.
