  • We've passed the midway point of the week, which means a fresh episode of your mom's favourite podcast is ready to massage your ear feelings. On this week's Better Lait Than Never, we're looking at Connor McDavid hitting 100 assists, potential playoff matchups, reality TV, and whatever else has been going on over the last seven days.

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started the podcast with a random collection of topics, a confession that I might be getting hooked on Survivor again. Personally, I hadn't watched the show in over a decade, but having my missus glued to the TV every Wednesday night has piqued my interest. Then again, it might just be because I found out how much money Jeff Probst makes to host every episode.

Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, I started the news with a tribute to Connor McDavid after he reached the 100-assist mark on Monday night against the San Jose Sharks. What was hilarious about that last assist, however, was that it took eight goals between the time Connor opened the scoring and when he picked up the helper he needed on Zach Hyman's 54th goal of the year. Evan Bouchard also touched some Oilers greatness against the Sharks after hitting the 80-point mark, and now, all I can think about is how much that next contract is going to cost.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with an RSB about the NHL schedule and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to landlord issues and everything in between. Once again, this podcast always makes me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • We've passed the midway point of the week, which means a fresh episode of your mom's favourite podcast is ready to massage your earholes. On this week's Better Lait Than Never, we're looking at Connor McDavid's day-to-day injury, more cereal talk, playoff matchups, and whatever else has been going on over the last seven days.

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started the podcast with a random collection of topics, including a look at a birthday song that Meat Watcher made for me. We haven't heard from Meat Watch in a while, but our guy came through with another beautiful BLTN original. I also called back on our great cereal debate from a few weeks ago after buying another blast from the past and adjusting my overall cereal rankings accordingly.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with the big story everyone is talking about Connor McDavid is banged up and will miss tonight's game versus the Golden Knights. Listed at day-to-day, McDavid could miss a game or two while he recovers from a lower-body injury, and understandably, Oilers fans are freaking out about it. We're also losing our collective minds about the Corey Perry/Evander Kane exchange from Saturday night when the camera caught them going at it a little bit.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, offered up an RSB about the Arizona Coyotes, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to dating to more cereal talk and everything in between. Once again, this podcast always makes me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

On this week's Better Lait Than Never, we're looking at Connor McDavid's chase for 100 assists, goal reviews, playoff matchups, and whatever else has been going on over the last seven days.

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started the podcast with a dose of random topics from the past week. From a friend of mine getting crapped on by birds to more Big Brother Canada talk to why I hated Road House, there was a lot going on this past week. Is all of this worth talking about? Probably not, but you may as well be into it, or I'll tell all of the stories twice.

Getting back to the Oilers, how could I not start with some Connor McDavid talk? The guy is so hot right now that I'm legitimately concerned that he may spontaneously burst into flames. With 25 points in his last 10 games, McDavid is now 24 points away from hitting 150 on the season and 24 away from 1000 in his career. Needless to say, the captain has shaken off that "slow" start in a big way.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, offered up an RSB about Peter Chiarelli, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to reality TV to more cereal talk and everything in between. Once again, this podcast always makes me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • I decided to drop two parts for Better Lait Than Never this week after receiving 9000 voicemails over the last seven days, which meant it was time to dig into your feedback from the week.

Unsurprisingly, the voicemails were hilarious right from the jump, and it’s so much fun for me to watch this segment grow and expand over time. Now, with a bunch of new callers in the mix, the VM section of the podcast is turning into a beast all on its own.

  • We've passed the halfway point of the week, which means a fresh episode of your mom's favourite is set and ready to massage your earholes. On this week's Better Lait Than Never, we're looking at Zach Hyman's 50th goal, Connor Brown's heater, Connor McDavid chasing 100 assists, and whatever else has been going on over the last seven days.

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started the podcast with a dose of random topics from the past week. From picking up my new whip on Friday to diving into Big Brother Canada to talking about our love for pets, it was undoubtedly a busy week outside of work for yours truly. A lot of life happened in not a lot of time.

Turning the show back to the Oilers, how could I not start with Zach Hyman hitting 50 goals for the first time, and how the reaction to that goal was all over the map depending on which fanbase you reside in? Even though we all knew the milestone was coming, watching him actually hit it was a moment a lot of Oilers fans will remember for a very long time.

I also looked at the Evander Kane situation that has been bubbling up around here lately. The forward was scratched for maintenance for Sunday's game against the Ottawa Senators, but according to Elliotte Friedman, it seems like the move was actually a healthy scratch. Regardless of what the truth looks like, what we know to be true is that the Oilers will need Kane to be at his best down the stretch if the team is going to make noise in the playoffs.

  • It's Wednesday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is set and ready to massage your ear holes.

Kicking off the podcast, I got started with some big news from my personal life. Thanks to our friends at Sherwood Ford the Giant, I bought myself my first new car in over 15 years. Needless to say, it's been a minute. As much as I loved my old Escape, some repair needs relative to the worth of the vehicle meant that it was time for an upgrade, and that's exactly what I did.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I offered another look at our new friends in Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, and Troy Stetcher after all three players made an impact on the ice over the last week. I also looked back at the games the Oilers played since the last show, including Wednesday's win over the Caps, Saturday's loss to the Avalanche, and last night's sloppy win over the Canadiens. Even though the Oilers only played a couple of games

I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, offered up an RSB about winter driving, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to reality TV to more cereal talk and everything in between. Once again, this podcast always makes me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • No better way to celebrate the halfway mark of your work week than with a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never! This week, we're talking Edmonton Oilers, cereal, daylight savings time, and anything else that

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I got the podcast started with a chat about cereal. That's right, cereal. Recently, I started buying a bunch of cereals I used to love as a kid to see if they still hold up, but what I didn't expect was the passionate debate about which one is the best. You, fine folks, were incredibly passionate about the subject, and I had so much fun going through everyone's takes about which cereals are best and which are the worst.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the hockey talk with plenty of excitement because I had tickets to Wednesday's game versus the Capitals, marking my first trip to Rogers Place in quite some time. From there, I looked at our new friends Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, and Troy Stecher and gave my first thoughts on how everyone is doing with their new team so far. I also wanted to give some love to Calvin Pickard. The guy is playing his ass off between the pipes right now despite so many people doubting him, and I think it's only fair to pump his tires a little bit after a fantastic performance against the Penguins.

I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, offered up an RSB about dog maintenance, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to reality TV to your favourite cereals and everything in between. This podcast never ceases to make me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving this show forward. • The Edmonton Oilers made a handful of moves at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, but they weren't able to plug all of the holes they probably have. That left many Oilers fans wanting and wishing Ken Holland was able to do more than pick up Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, and Troy Stecher. Were there even options for him to upgrade beyond those three? Were there deals they should have been in on?

I gave my take on the Oilers' trade deadline and also read all of your feedback about how you thought the Oilers fared in the NHL's annual swap 'n shop.

  • There's nothing quite like a big trade in the hours leading up to the new episode of Better Lait Than Never to liven up the podcast, amirite? Today, Ken Holland pulled the trigger on a trade that saw the Oilers send out their first (2024), fourth (2025), and fifth-round (2025) picks in exchange for Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, a seventh-round pick, and Ty Taylor, and I want to talk about it.

Before we got to the trade talk, I had to walk through a few different things first, including the amazing Brunch for Ben that happened last weekend and Greta and the bonus episode of BLTN that I recorded with Dooks. For my money, Dooks' visit to town went about as well as it possibly could have, and I was very grateful to be able to spend a little bit of time with him. I was also happy that he was able to attend the Brunch for Ben that happened on Saturday, marking the first Nation event he was able to attend as well.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, how could I not start with the massive trade that happened this afternoon? The Oilers sent out three picks—a first, fourth, and fifth—to acquire Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick at 75% retained while also grabbing a seventh-rounder and depth goalie as add-ins. While I personally like this trade a whole lot, it wasn't surprising to see how many Oilers fans were left wanting after the team spent its best trade chip on a middle-six forward and depth centreman.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, played a guest RSB from Nick, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to reality TV to anything else that was on your mind. Once again, this podcast never ceases to make me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keep moving this show forward.

  • The best part of your Wednesday has finally arrived, as the new episode of Better Lait Than Never is prepped, edited, and ready for your ear holes. This week, I'm talking about the slog that is this latest stretch of Oilers hockey and what it's going to take to get out of this little funk they're in.

Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started with a random collection of topics, including the hellish flu I was battling over the weekend and how it caused me to lose eight pounds in only three days. On the bright side, having the flu gave me an excuse to sit around and watch TV all day while my summer diet plan got a nice jump start without having to set foot in a gym. I also previewed the special episode of BLTN that will be happening with Dooks tomorrow down at Nation HQ and how I couldn't be more excited for this episode to finally happen.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started with a look at the team's three-game losing streak and how it was so massive that they were able to snap the skid against the LA Kings. Obviously, no one wants to lose games, but having the Oilers find a way to get the job done against a Kings team that's been surging since their coaching change was a massive win in more ways than one.

Looking ahead to next week's trade deadline, I ran through some of the latest rumours surrounding the Oilers and offered my take on whether or not I think the mentioned names would help. Most notably, Frank Seravalli mentioned this morning on Daily Faceoff Live that the Oilers could emerge as legitimate contenders to land Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues, and if a trade like that happened, it could end up being a game changer for this team down the stretch.

  • We're back from the Arizona #NationVacation, the Oilers had a home game in another country, and that meant there was a whole lot to talk about on this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.

Kicking off this week’s podcast, I had to get started with a recap from this weekend’s #NationVacation to Arizona, and how it was one of the greatest weekends of my life. From the amazing people who joined us to the incredible atmosphere at Mullett Arena, this trip was one for the ages, and I’m so grateful to have been able to experience it.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started with a look back at the two-game win streak that started with one in Dallas before being extended in Arizona and how the boys will need an effort more like the one they gave against the Stars if the plan is to beat the Bruins. With RNH on the shelf with illness and the PK continuing to struggle, the Oilers desperately need to tighten the details of their game if they plan to win some of these very important home games before the end of the month.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's Better Lait Than Never with a Righteous Sack Beating about airport food costs after spending a bunch of time in transit this past week. You gotta love getting gauged when they know exactly how excited one is to go on a holiday. I also dove into the latest batch of voicemails that ranged from Oilers thoughts, to TV, to helping me recap the #NationVacation. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by listening to a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never with that special someone? This week, we're discussing the three games we've missed since the last podcast, going to see City and Colour at Rogers Place, trade deadline rumours, and a whole lot more.

Kicking off this week's episode of BLTN, I got started with a recap of City and Colour from Saturday night at Rogers Place. At first, I was nervous about skipping the Oilers game in favour of a concert, but the tone quickly changed as I was checking the score from my seat. It's amazing how much my mood can be affected by the score in an Oilers game, but the good news is that Dallas Green did everything he could to make me forget about it.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I needed to talk about Connor McDavid's ridiculous night that he had against the Detroit Red Wings. Of course, watching the captain do things that don't make sense is pretty common around here, but even he had never put up the kind of night he had last night at Rogers Place. Every time we think he's reached his limit in terms of blowing our minds, he pulls another trick out of his hat that has the hockey world collectively rebooting their hard drives.

Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. As always, the BLTN listeners brought the heat and hearing all of your thoughts was easily my favourite part of this week's show. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • It's been a busy couple of days even though it's only been a couple of days since the voicemail edition of my podcast, and that meant there was plenty to get caught up on.

Kicking off the new episode of Better Lait Than Never, I got started with a trending topic from Twitter that was making the rounds yesterday. Of course, I could only be talking about Drake. Maybe you might be reading this and thinking the Canadian rapper had new music come out, but you could not be further from the truth, even though he did have some fresh content hit the Internet.

Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, I touched on last night's loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and how it was a painful one despite the team playing well. Even though we all knew the Oilers weren't going to win out the rest of their schedule, having the streak ended by the Golden Knights was certainly a tough pill to swallow, especially when you consider that the boys played well. Way she goes, I suppose.

The good news is that the Oilers are now on deck to start a new winning streak, and it all starts on Friday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Will one extended streak lead into another? Dare to dream, friends. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. • The episode of Better Lait Than Never that I recorded in Toronto with Frank Seravalli, Tyler Yaremchuk, and Liam Horrobin was a tonne of fun, but I didn't have any of my normal equipment, which meant I didn't have access to your voicemails. Seeing as you guys left a bunch of them this past week, I wasn't about to let all of your thoughts slip through the cracks and that's why I'm back on a Sunday with a special voicemail edition of the podcast.

  • We made it to Toronto for the NHL All-Star weekend and there is a lot going on, which meant the perfect time to record an on-location episode of Better Lait Than Never.

Kicking off the podcast, we got started with a quick recap of what we’re doing here and how cool it is that TNN has is broadcasting live shows from the Royal York. With two full days of live programming going on from across the network, it’s almost unbelievable how the company has grown over the last few years.

Over and above the content we’re making, it’s always good to get the team together. Since many of us don’t see each other all that much because of geography, it’s a good time to get the band together and spend some time in the same room.

Turning the podcast back to hockey, we looked at the Elias Lindholm trade that shook things up last night and how the Canucks are pushing their chips in for a deep run. Now that the Canucks have made their big move, do the Oilers need to do something comparable to keep up?

  • It's been a busy couple of weeks since my last podcast. I was in Toronto last week for a business trip, the Oilers signed Corey Perry, and they also wrapped up their 14th consecutive win, meaning there was a lot to talk about on the brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never.

Kicking off the podcast, I got started with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto and how it was a great experience to be able to get into the weeds of how our business works and how we can continue to improve. As I was sitting in those sessions, it was almost surreal to me to think about how far this company has come in the 10 years I've worked here full time. After getting home from the Six, I basically jumped right into a car and drove to Jasper for the annual pond hockey tournament, which happens to be one of the greatest weekends of the year.

Turning the show toward the Oilers, I had to start with the news that the team had signed Corey Perry to a one-year contract to finish up the year in Edmonton and what that means for the team moving forward. Given that the Oilers are riding a 14-game heater, it's fair to wonder if the team needed this kind of addition right now, but I'm personally very excited. Now that Perry is here, however, I do wonder who is going to come out of the lineup to clear up the spot. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. • Never in my wildest imagination did I think that the next emergency podcast that I would do would be dedicated to Robin Brownlee? Earlier today, we lost Brownlee to a heart attack and I wanted to jump on and record something quickly about what he meant to me personally and how much he helped guide my career along. While many may remember him as the crusty writer you argued with online, he was also one of the best people you could ever hope to speak with once he got to now you. So, in this short. episode of BLTN, I wanted to say thank you to a guy who helped me so much behind the scenes that it's hard to even process the fact that he's gone.

    RIP Brownlee.

  • It must be your favourite day of the week because I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never recorded and set to massage your eardrums.

Kicking things off, I started the new episode of BLTN with yet another complaint about winter. While I was thriving under the brown winter, getting hit by a dump of snow and cold over the last few days really ruined my mojo. On the bright side, I did get a new bed amid the deep freeze conditions, and it's given me a great excuse to do nothing other than sleep all day. Back to business, I started the Oilers talk with a quick recap of last night's game in Chicago and how that might have been one of the ugliest wins you'll ever see. While the 2-1 final ended up in our favour, the boys certainly didn't do themselves many favours on the way there despite going up against a team that is missing most of its best players. Yet, at the same time, isn't winning hockey games the most important part of the story regardless of how you get there? Winners of 16 of their last 19 games, the Oilers are finding ways to get the job done even when they don't offer their best effort, and that's a really nice trait to have given the climb they face to get back in the playoffs. The good news is that the Oilers' best players are playing like their best players, and it's no surprise that the success we're seeing right now is directly tied to those individuals raising their level of play. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • At some point, having a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never come out will be the highlight of your week. Until then, however, I'll just keep plugging away with fresh releases every single Wednesday, including this brand new episode that covers the Christmas break and what's to come in 2024.

Kicking off this week's podcast, I recapped what was left of the Christmas break since the last episode, including a look at the Oilers' six-game win streak after they beat the Flyers 5-2 last night at Rogers Place. As much as I was trying to relax during the break, it was hard to do when all I was thinking about was whether or not the Oilers will have enough time to climb out of their early season hole. As much as the team is rolling right now — you love to see a six-game win streak powering them forever — they're still not catching the teams in front of them as much as you would think based on the results. On the bright side, Connor McDavid continued his surge up the NHL points leaderboard after another five-point performance saw him hit and rush past the 900-point plateau. After a slow start by his own standards, the Oilers' captain is back to putting up points en masse, and it's going to be so much fun to see whether he's got another gear to hit down the stretch. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
