As the world grapples with the escalating consequences of climate change, the devastating impact on marine ecosystems is becoming increasingly evident. Coral reefs, which are vital to the health of our oceans and support an estimated 25% of all marine species, are facing severe challenges due to rising ocean temperatures. The Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest coral reef system on Earth, has experienced frequent and intense coral bleaching events, threatening its very existence. The damage inflicted by bleaching not only affects the marine life that depends on the reef, but also has far-reaching implications for the global climate.
The loss of these reefs would have a profound impact on millions of people who rely on the reefs for their livelihoods, as well as on the countless species that call them home.
As we confront the challenge of preserving these crucial ecosystems, could a promising technology called cloud brightening offer a potential solution to mitigating the effects of climate change on our reefs?

With over three billion people relying on fish as a crucial source of protein and millions more depending on fishing for their livelihoods, the health of our oceans has never been more vital. Yet, we find ourselves at a tipping point, where unsustainable fishing practices are wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems and posing a profound threat to the very fabric of life beneath oceans.
The magnitude of this issue is staggering: currently, a disconcerting 90% of global fish stocks are either fully exploited, overexploited, or depleted. This alarming trajectory endangers not only the diverse marine species that call our oceans home - but also the delicate balance of our world's ecosystems. As we navigate these treacherous waters, we must confront the harsh reality of overfishing and the need for immediate, impactful action.
So could there be a way to preserve and protect one of our most naturally sustainable sources of protein?

A staggering 8 million metric tons of plastic waste makes its way into our oceans every year, and we have yet to comprehend the full scale of its long-term effects on our ecosystems and food sources. This distressing reality brings the urgent need to address the ever-growing problem of ocean plastics to the forefront. Microplastics, the most insidious form of this pollution, have infiltrated even the most remote aquatic environments, posing a grave threat to marine life and wreaking havoc on delicate ecosystems across the globe.
In this daunting scenario, Fionn Ferreira's pioneering research technology emerges, as a beacon of hope. With Fionn’s innovation, we stand at the precipice of a turning point—a chance to reclaim our oceans and set the stage for a cleaner, more sustainable planet.
