  • Today I speak with IFBB Bikini Pro Maddy Michielssen, the CEO of Mpowered Fitness, who earned her Pro card at 2023 Nationals with the Overall win. She grew up a Ballet dancer with the Orlando Ballet before quitting at the age of 15 and took up weight training & wakeboarding. After a major accident, she put wakeboarding to bed and got into college at the University of Florida. She began training clients then, but also battled with her own eating disorder. After moving home and graduating, Maddy was put on a SLEW of medications, each with side effects, which lead her to I began on the journey to studying nursing as well as functional medicine. • We are back for our 3rd coach series and I want to preface this week by saying every coach I am bringing on is a professional with their own achievements, education, and experience. Many of them you will recognize as well-known names. If I could fit every amazing coach in the bikini competition world on the show, we would have a whole other podcast, but I am so excited about the coach’s I will be conducting these interviews with. None of the coaches have paid to come on and there will be as limited bias as possible. Every episode will contain the same set of questions for the coaches along with specific topics for each coach to expand on or opportunities to learn from and get to know them more! This series is all about getting some serious understanding about who these coaches are, what their philosophy is and even asking them questions others might be afraid to ask them. The intention is for you all to learn not just about them and their style but also learn from them and their expertise. Plus! you can use the questions I ask to interview other coaches you have on your radar. This is not a popularity contest, a who is better than who, or a which is the right way fight, this is about truly highlighting the individual strengths and systems each of these coaches have to offer competitors in their own passionate way because we all know everyone is different and so are these coaches. I understand athletes have varying experiences with coaches and unfortunately in an episode I cannot fully capture every review of every coach either. We will be featuring: Ivan Madarang https://www.instagram.com/geektophysique/ Sean Irwin https://www.instagram.com/seanirwin_/ Lexie Maitland https://www.instagram.com/lexiemait/ David DesMesquita https://www.instagram.com/dynamite_d/ Casey Marshall https://www.instagram.com/caseymfit/ Drew and Jordan Brannon https://www.instagram.com/drewbrannon08/ and https://www.instagram.com/jayybrannon_ifbbpro/ Coach's Week Questions: What is your coaching philosophy? What kind of mental physical and even emotional toll does coaching take on you? How do you handle these types of demands? What do you think makes a coach a ‘good’ coach? What do you think is the difference between a good athlete and a phenomenal, winning champion athlete What do you have to say to the people who say politics with teams plays a role in their client’s placing? Or that all of this is political? How do you make your client’s health a priority? What are some common misconceptions that people have about this sport when they come to you? What does each coach believe to be the most ‘overlooked’ component by bikini athletes for success in the sport?! Hypothetical Round: If I am 1 year into competing with a few overall wins under my belt and my goal is to get my pro card and I have never stepped on the national stage and have been working with the same coach for all those SHOWS but was looking for a new approach why would I hire you? If I am 4 weeks out from a show and keep saying I don’t feel ready, but you believe I am, what is your response? Let's say someone comes to you wanting to compete or considering it, what is something you want them to know before they compete? Your client comes to you and says they have rebounded after their show and just wants to reverse it and get back to normal, what do you do? Rapid fire answer with 1 sentence or less then you can pick some to expand on Do you believe in using Waist trainers IIfym or structured meal plan Do you believe in using Fasted cardio? Fan of Water Cuts Steady state or HIIT for fatloss without sacrificing fullness especially in glutes? Anything I didn’t ask you that you think I should have? Then 1-3 topics chosen for each individual coach will be covered too throughout the episode!
