In the word there is divine energy that can transform your mind and make you a new creation (E.J. Waggoner). In the word we are entreated to die to self, to allow Christ to abide in us and to express HIM in everything we do : submitting our wills to God, being sincere in faith, loving those that pain us. It will be crushing to let go, to die to the desires of the heart and be empty shells, unless we can let go but let Him in, for "this is my comfort in my affliction; Thy word has made me alive."

The brevity of time is catching up. Look around and you will see that the prevailing sins and the indulgence of perverted appetites are polluting our morality (CTBH, 11). Time is almost done, and as we will study, salvation really isn't that hard. Christ's yolk is easy and if we can just have a true change of heart, a better quality of righteousness, a perseverance and patience to obey and keep on the journey of growth and grace, if we can just commit and TRUST... we can make it to Heaven.

He hasn't forgotten you. Nothing can befall us of which God takes no immediate interest (SC, 117). He has you engraved in the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16); YOU are His priority, YOU are the object of His love and yearning (COL, 225), so don't listen to the fear as Elijah did. Instead keep your head up and cling to Him like Mary. Instead listen to that small voice of the Holy Spirit, no matter the tribulation. Give everything for your salvation, as Christ gave everything for your salvation.

God would have us take the short and straight way, we would take the rich and easy way, but neither would have the same value for our character. Mercifully He allows the burdens and temptations to "work together for good to them that love God," and our mistakes make our crooked paths, paths of sin and spiritual stagnation. Listen closely as we explore the seriousness of our faith and duty after baptism, and as we understand that perfection does not mean flawlessness.

By our wrong habits we lessen our hold on life (CD, 45). If we keep willfully sinning, what are we truly doing but growing dark and lessening our strength to glorify God, which is certain death. In this new year, what will you change ? Will you self-examine, surrender, or will you continue judging and sinning until Jesus returns ?
