Just Hold On | James 1:12 | Christian Daily Devotional | Christian-Meditations.com

Something quite funny happened at work a few days ago. I work at a hippotherapy clinic where we do physical therapy on horseback for special needs and disabled children and adults.
We have one horse in particular who is young and a little silly and stubborn. Our fill-in therapist walked up the ramp and mounted the horse with the child who was there for therapy.
You see, she doesn’t have a whole lot of riding experience, but she fills in for our full-time physical therapist who is battling cancer and has to get treatments during the work week.
I have many years of horse experience, and so I can see things that are coming in their behavior before it actually happens. I could see the horse’s body stiffen up.
I saw him begin to lean down and back. Not only that, but I also noticed Buffie’s body stiffen and her eyes grew wide with fear.
I knew Woody was just leaning down for a quick stretch before the session. Buffie had no idea what was going on.
I just smiled and said, “Buffie, just hold on. It’s okay!”
Once he stretched and straightened his body back up, we were all so relieved.
I knew he wasn’t going to do anything crazy, but when you are on a horse, and they lean wayyyyyy down to stretch, it can be scary!
You do feel like maybe he will just dump you right off. Buffie said when she saw me smile and say “Hold on” she knew it would be okay.
In the same way, we need to trust our Father in heaven. He is the one with the reigns, and he is the one who knows what’s coming next. When you have an unexpected incident, and you feel fear or despair, just picture this story. Look to the Father as he smiles and says, “Just hold on, my child. It may be scary right now, but everything will be okay.”
Prayer: God, I come to you in awe and humility. I am so thankful you have a plan for this crazy life! When things in the world, or even just in my little world, get chaotic and scary, I am thankful that I can look to you, and you have a plan and a purpose. I do believe that you work all things out for good, just as you said in Romans 8:28. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being in control in this out of control world, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

On my way to work one foggy dreary morning, I was driving in my car and listening to the radio.
I was running late so I was trying to drink my coffee and the cup kept leaking all over me. The windshield kept fogging up and I can never really figure out how to get it unfoggy once that happens.
I struggled with all of the knobs and buttons trying to clear my view. I was really irritated. The landscape around me was mist and cloud and honestly kind of depressing.
As I sighed and slammed the leaky cup down in the cupholder, I kept driving on my route.
As I started the incline on the General K. Wilson bridge, locally known as the Dolly Parton Bridge, the fog began to thin.
The air around became lighter and more vibrant. I began to see rays of sunlight breaking through.
And then in one instant, all of the darkness and dreariness cleared to reveal the most beautiful sunrise.
The sun shone in golden beams of light all over the landscape. The river far below sparkled like diamonds. The trees became a beautiful deep green.
Even the fog was beautiful from this point of view.
I wanted to remind you; it will get better. If you keep on pressing forward toward the prize, you will win the crown.
God doesn’t make promises that he won’t keep.
Be encouraged in knowing that your sunrise will break through that fog and you will see the light of joy and peace in Jesus Christ flood into your life.
Just keep moving forward toward the goal.
Prayer: God, I thank you that you filled your scriptures with encouragement and promises that we can hold on to when sometimes in our lives things seem very dreary. I pray that you would not tarry and that you would reveal your joy to me swiftly, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Have you ever heard the saying “I have a lot on my plate”?
People usually say this meaning that they are very busy or have a lot of things to do. But have you ever thought about it like this; plates come in many sizes and shapes.
Comparison is the thief of joy. We are all a part of the body of Christ, but all body parts look and function very differently, don’t they?
We are the same in that we all have different functions and different portions that we can handle. Some people may have very large plates, serving platters even.
They may be constantly on the go, constantly praying and doing good works, and you may see their deeds and feel inadequate by comparison.
However, if your own plate is much smaller but you’re still filling it up, do not look down on the allotment you have been given.
God wants you to be obedient to what he has asked of you, not to try to achieve the exact same things that another person has accomplished.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for using me and speaking to me and filling my plate with tasks that are perfectly made for me and my abilities. Help me to do all that you have asked of me with a cheerful heart and help me to never compare myself to others, but to strive to be the best ‘me’ that I can be each and every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have you ever seen the Disney movie Dumbo? If you haven’t this is your spoiler alert warning. In the movie a baby elephant is born with extraordinarily large ears.
He gets bullied and made fun of a lot.
This little guy’s spirit is pretty much crushed by all of the hate and mean things that are being said to him.
He eventually comes across a tribe of crows, and once they decided to believe in him, with their help and the help of his constant companion Timothy the mouse, he learns that his awkward enormous ears are a gift.
He can do something that none of the other elephants can do! He can fly!
Don’t let people look down on you for ANYTHING!
In 1 Timothy 4:12, it says “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
God created you with many special and unique traits and abilities.
He can use you to help others and bring about his kingdom, no matter your age or your seemingly odd traits.
If you feel that something about you is awkward, don’t sweat it. In my life, my quirks have led me to my divine purpose.
I used to resent the name-calling and try to blend in, but now I am unashamedly myself and the freedom that comes with that is priceless.
God uses me and my awkwardness and my mistakes and everything that I am for his glory.
Prayer: God I want to be a vessel to be used by you for your glory. Use me and all of my quirks and unique traits and abilities, no matter how insignificant they seem. I pray that I would be a vessel of your goodness and kindness and love to the other people I come in contact with in this life. I love you, and I thank you that you delight in using anyone whose heart is turned toward you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
