  • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you Jess Stockton from the Brass Tax crew. Here is a few words from Jess about this mix:''This mix is a midtempo/funky house journey through some of my favorite genres- soul, hip-hop, gospel, bluegrass, Dolly (yeah, Dolly probably counts as her own genre). It makes me and mine move our happy asses and I hope it does the same for you and yours. Shout out to my crews Brass Tax and Angels of bAss- proud to still be going strong after all these years with y'all. And to HazMatt and my little man QDubs- my biggest cheerleaders and harshest critics who egg me on with DJ treats (french fries and booty shakes) but also never hesitate to tell me when something sounds ''yucky.'' Thanks to the Space Cowboys for the invitation and to everyone who still follows me and remembers my name, even after I've stepped away from the scene for a minute or two. It was good to be back behind the decks for this one, and I look forward to our next encounter on the dancefloor.''- JessCheck out more from Jess Stockton here:https://www.mixcloud.com/helljess/https://soundcloud.com/helljess https://brasstaxsf.podomatic.com/https://www.facebook.com/angelsbass/Photo credit:Scott Finhttps://www.facebook.com/Scottfin.photography/ Track List:Left and Right (Frankee More Bootleg) - D'AngeloBlue Grassed Devil - Aldo Vanucci, FeaturecastJolene (Todd Terje Remix) - Dolly Parton4.N.W.A. • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you DJ Elz from the Laser Native & Common Ground crews. Being known for genre-bending and crowd-pleasing, she has mastered the art of reading the crowd by setting the mood with tasteful dance music. Growing up listening to breakbeats, techno, and house music along with discovering classic rock, jazz, hip-hop, 80s, and funk music she learned how to incorporate all of these elements together to create some serious flavor. She has releases on Muzimo Records, Harlum Muziq, Look Out Records, and has just joined the Tech House label Laser Native as their newest resident artist. You can also find her playing regularly at the Virgin Hotel in San Francisco either Friday or Saturday night 5-9pm on the Everdene Rooftop bar or inside the Commons Club. She is currently a DJ instructor at Blue Bear School of Music and also teaches therapeutic beat making workshops for elementary and middle school children using Ableton and the Push with the nonprofit Today's Future Sound throughout the Bay Area. • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you Mo Corleone from the InfleXion Crew. Local favorite Mo Corleone has been a beloved fixture in the Bay Area underground for over 15 years. An introduction to Burning Man in 2000 solidified her commitment to gatherings powered by unbridled creativity and autonomy. Mo honed her skills spinning vinyl in warehouses, basements, and other renegade spaces where free expression reigned supreme. She can strike gold in almost any genre and enjoys moving fluidly through sounds and scenes. Mo constantly pushes herself to improve, and she probably thinks you can do better, too. Here's what she had to say about this guest mix:''My goal was to prove that breaks can be fun and dirty and even ''booty'' without misogynist or degrading vocals. I had to dig even more than usual, but I can confirm it is 100% possible to play a slammin' breaks set devoid of negative messages. DJs have an outsized amount of influence on bodies as well as brains, and I'd like to encourage all of us entertainers to use our powers for good.''- MoCheck out more from Mo Corleone here:www.mocorleone.comsoundcloud.com/mo_corleoneTrack List:Mizzo - ''Miami Bass'' Fog - ''Lets Go (Get Low)'' Stanton Warriors, Taiki Nulight, Danny Dearden - ''What You Got Now'' (Extended Mix)The Bass Droppers - ''Back To Bounce''Danny Dee - ''Flash Bang'' K-Deejays - ''Like Retro''Alusive - ''Hands Up''Rico Tubbs, Terry Hooligan - ''Horns'' (Mutantbreakz Remix)Huda Hudia - ''Make My Heart''Josh B - ''Banger'' Dirty Kicks, Wes Smith - ''Bring It Back''Alex Clubbers - ''Rock It''Ed Solo, Defkline - ''Nawty Bwoi''Josh Chambers - ''This Is Breaks''Ondamike - ''Word Up'' (Retro)The Push - ''Shake It Up'' (FM-3 Remix)Ondamike - ''Mr Postman''Face & Book - ''Tarantula''The Bass Droppers - ''Break Down''

  • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you OONA X from the Opel Productions Crew. Here are a few words from OONA X about this mix:

''When the opportunity comes along to do a guest mix for an institution who changed the entire course and direction of you're life ... you pause. Well, first you scream with excitement, then you pause, then you agonize over track selection.

It's been a little over 10 years ago now since I experienced my first Breakfast of Champions at Kelly's Mission Rock in San Francisco. I was a socially awkward software engineer holed up in a cubicle for 10 years at a successful startup company when a fellow engineer said ''Hey, there's this dance party that happens on New Year's Day. It's a thing. You should go.'' I went and I've gone every year since. If you attended BOC back in the day then you know the level of mind-blowing epic I'm hinting at. It's still epic, but back then times were very different than they are now, and so was I. To top it all off, my very first DJ gig 6 years ago was for a Space Cowboys hosted event.

So this mix is a one-shot, live recording dedicated to those moments in life. To change and the change makers. To the ethereal highs, ground stomping lows, to cosmic convergence and everything in between. Hope you enjoy the ride

Thank you for everything, Space Cowboys''

Here are a few words from Ethan about this mix:''While in general Im a techno head, Ive always loved that playing with my favorite Space Cowpokes at Breakfast of Champions, Ghost Ship, the Hoe Down, and more, have brought out my love for breaks and dirtier, uptempo house beats. Recorded over my 2019 birthday weekend, for this guest mix, I put together the kinds of tunes I love and love to hear at Cowboys events - hard charging techy house to kick out the old and smash in the new. • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you INFLUENCE from the Strategik crew. Here are a few words from Influence about this mix:

''For this mix I wanted to capture the essence of my time living and DJing in the Bay Area. It was my objective to travel through the many different genres and sub-genres that influenced me during my time in this extraordinary scene. The DJ mixes I grew up listening to in the late 90s early 2000s took the listener on a journey through valleys and peaks, time and space and left the listener feeling satisfied. That was my intention with this mix and as you will experience, the mix is an adventure and a trip through Psy Tech, Progressive House, Electro House, Tech House, BREAKS, Future House, Bass House and even ends with some Glitch. Its almost 3 hours long so try and listen from beginning to end when you have a moment to take a journey with me. Good speakers or headphones with proper bass response a plus. Cheers!

  • On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you CHRIS G from the Black Rock Roller Disco Crew. Here are a few words from Chris about this mix:i got a little tease on 1/1/1998 when i was brought (via a map point and an ink stamp from a nearby empty disco club) to my first Detroit techno partyBut i throughly investigated, in disbelief, at what i was witnessing in the summer of 1998An underground rave at a new party venue in a giant East Detroit warehouse (System)John Acquaviva was the only DJ for 10 hours48 18 Sub bins, and every new house & techno record played, blended in using a uninterrupted long and continuous train wreck free mixRichie Hawtin became the staple for my next 10 years (after he was allowed to come back to the US and play in Detroit again), but John Acquaviva was always there, opening the first 4 hours of Richs epic (Plus 8 & M-NUS) Detroit parties. I've heard and reviewed many approaches to DJing over the last 21 years, so many new genres!Minimal Techno was what Detroit provided socially for me, and Chicago was there, to occasionally influence me as wellI always loved the disco and house elements to Johns sets- and that became the main driving force behind my record selection and DJ style, still true today. I've been continuing an only underground tradition in the SF Bay Area area for 12 years now, along with a compatible alter ego- playing disco & funk remixes- remaining loyal to my Burning Man camp: The Black Rock Roller Disco. • On this weeks episode of the RIPEcast, we are featuring a guest mix from ezwhip of the San Francisco EGGSTATIC ATTIC crew. Here is a bit more about ezwhip and the upcoming EGGS Bar fundraising event on April 13th. Check it out!San Francisco-based ezwhip remembers with vivid clarity the exact moment he first heard the opening notes of Erasures Who Needs Love Like That?, launching a now 30-year love affair with electronic music. His pioneering early 90s radio show Chillspace explored the nascent genre of ambient house, but it was turn-of-the-century Burning Man that dumped rocket fuel onto a burgeoning obsession with the broken beat (with all due props to the Space Cowboys for fanning the flames). Hes rocked parties all over the Bay Area and the playa, but his favorite venue is the Ecstatic Attic, where he hosts regular underground sessions for a coalition of the chilling. His tastes reflect a passion for a variety of styles and genres, weaving fresh sounds with properly-cellared bangers to inspire both old heads and new generations of bass-chasing, booty-shaking beat freaks. Long-time listener, first-time caller: this exclusive guest mix for the RIPEcast is all that, and more -- a veritable Bass to Breakers if you will.
