  • Christmas and Disney magic just seem to go together. Whether you’re planning a Disney vacation during the holiday season, or just sharing a little magic at home, it’s always nice to have a little Disney inspiration in your wardrobe.

Do you wear Disney inspired Christmas clothes? The most popular items for your list this year

Whether it’s Disney official clothing or non-Disney apparel inspired by the magic, Christmas and holiday-themed apparel adds a little extra magic to just about any seasonal festivity.

The Most Popular Disney-Inspired Apparel Items for Christmas

Christmas and holiday themed apparel falls into three categories:

    1. Christmas themed patterns

    2. Christmas sweaters

    3. Christmas graphics

Apparel items can be anything from hoodies, t-shirts and sweatshirts, to leggings, dresses and wide-leg pajama pants (which can be worn day or night, inside or outside).

Disney Official and Disney-Inspired Holiday Wear

If you’re looking for Disney character themed holiday apparel, then hitting the shops on your Disney vacation can be a lot of fun. From Disney official to Disney licensed clothing, you can find lots of fun festive cheer that features Disney characters in all sorts of holiday activities.

If you’re looking for Christmas apparel that doesn’t feature Disney characters or intellectual property, but that is inspired by the magical feeling that you get on a Disney vacation, then the Disney inspired apparel items are a good option. Note that when we say Disney inspired, we are not talking about any shop or seller that violates Disney trademarks. If you want Disney characters or intellectual property, then buy from Disney or Disney licensed sellers.

When Would You Want Disney-Inspired versus Disney Official?

While most Disney fans likely have both style of festive wear in their closet, sometimes you may not want a Disney character on your clothes, but you still want to capture that family vibe and ambiance of a Disney Christmas vacation. In these cases, Disney inspired – or subtle Disney clothes, as we like to say – is a great way to go. It’s the perfect complement to your official Disney wardrobe.

Here at 1923 Main Street, for example, we design festive holiday wear that draws inspiration from the joy and positive ambiance of the Disney experience. This can be anything from a festive street scene reminiscent of the feeling of Main Street U.S.A. at Christmas, to a graphic design that celebrates hopping between theme parks during the holidays. Chances are, you may want to add a little Disney official and Disney-inspired to your wardrobe to ensure you have something for every occasion and holiday event.

What is the Most Popular Single Apparel Item for the Holidays?

With so many different Christmas-themed clothes items from which to choose, what is the most popular and versatile piece of clothing, if you only want to buy one?

While the popular ugly Christmas sweater can be good choice for some, not everyone likes sweaters. Plus, the Christmas sweater on its own is not as versatile a piece to wear for multiple occasions over the holidays.

If you only want to have one Christmas or festive themed item in your wardrobe, Mike recommends a Christmas or holiday themed sweatshirt as your go-to item. Sweatshirts are versatile and can be worn to many occasions. They pair well with jeans, leggings or a skirt and even with pajama bottoms. Plus, their warm and can be layered for times when you need something a little extra cozy.

Amelia’s top pick, while she agrees with sweatshirt idea, is to consider Christmas or holiday-themed wide-leg pants/pajama pants. These are also quite versatile for curling up next to a fire to watch a movie, or to head out to a cozy Christmas gathering.

  • A lot of people think that the prospect of doing laundry while on vacation is crazy. But in these days of airline luggage challenges and the desire to put everything into a carry-on bag, doing laundry while on vacation can actually help to free up space in your luggage.

Should You Do Laundry on Your Walt Disney World Vacation?

But is doing laundry on your vacation really worth the benefits? Is this a convenience you'd enjoy, or an irritation you'd rather leave at home.

Laundry at Walt Disney World Hotels

Did you know that every Walt Disney World hotel has a laundry room (or rooms) for guests?

Hotels in all Walt Disney World categories offer paid self-serve laundry facilities that you are free to use on a first-come first serve basis. For example, Pop Century has three laundry rooms and they’re open 24 hours.

Why Do Laundry When You’re on Vacation?

Sure, doing laundry on vacation sounds like a chore that’s best left at home, but there are times when having access to a laundry room is a good thing. Even if you don’t want to pack less because you can do laundry mid-week and get a fully refreshed travel wardrobe, there are other reasons why you might need the laundry room.

Ever spilled something (or had a child who did) on one of your favorite Disney outfits? Dark chocolate on a brand new white t-shirt? This is another scenario when a quick run to the laundry room can save the day. The faster you get that item in the wash, the better the chances that stain will come out. Forget the sink in your hotel bathroom, a washing machine will do a much better job.

How Much Does it Cost to Do Laundry at Walt Disney World?

While the exact cost can change, a load of laundry in a Disney hotel laundry room is usually around two dollars per load. You can buy soap as well, so it’s all provided in one place.

When is the Best Time to Do Laundry at a Disney World Hotel?

While these things can vary because you can never fully predict the crowd levels in a laundry room, early morning is often best time to do laundry at Walt Disney World. Most guests are off to the parks or off to breakfast, so the laundry rooms can be less busy at this time. Put in a load of laundry and go grab a coffee or quick service breakfast.

Afternoon can be good as well, and you go spend a little time by the pool while your laundry is on.

Later in the evening is often the busiest times for the Disney hotel laundry rooms, so bear that in mind. If the laundry room happens to be close to your room, then you can always drop by to see how busy it is.

On a similar note, if you plan to do laundry during your Disney vacation, do a little advance scouting when you first get to the hotel to see which times are least busy in the laundry room. That way you will have a better idea of when may be the best time to do your laundry, when the time comes.

    Disney Deluxe Villas and Laundry

One of the benefits of staying in a Disney Deluxe Villa is that the one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom villas all have washer/dryer units right in the room. Not only is this very convenient, but it is also free.

Studio Villas do not have in-room laundry, but they are laundry room facilities in the building.

  • If you are traveling to Walt Disney World in November 2024, here is what you need to know about the weather and more that will affect what you should pack and wear for your vacation.

November signals not only a change in weather patterns, but also a seasonal change at Walt Disney World, as Christmas holiday vibes begin to take over the Most Magical Place on Earth, with a little Food & Wine and Thanksgiving added to the mix.

How to Dress for November Weather and the Kick-Off to the Holiday Season at Walt Disney World

This is particularly true in 2024, where warmer temperatures have hung on longer than usual through the month of October. While November won’t exactly be cold, it is shaping up to a be a seasonally cooler month.

Special events in November will have an impact on your vacation. From Christmas parties kicking off at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and Hollywood Studios, to seasonal activities at EPCOT and Thanksgiving on November 28, you can expect crowds to be bigger than they were in October. Still, it is not Christmas week by any means, so pack your patience and have fun enjoying the immersive ambiance all around you.

Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World in November 2024

The forecast for November 2024 at Walt Disney World sees a month that starts warm and then follows a gradual cooling trends as the weeks pass.

For November 2024, Orlando and Walt Disney World daytime highs are forecast to range from 70°F (21°C) to 86°F (30°C), while nighttime lows will hover around 55°F (13°C) to 70°F (21°C). These temperatures are noticeably cooler than October, but still very pleasant for your vacation. The forecast calls for a gradual decline in both daytime highs and nighttime lows as November progresses.

On a positive note, November at Walt Disney World is shaping up to be a relatively dry month, with only a few days of rain here or there popping up. Rain can be unpredictable in Orlando, at this point, November is looking pretty good.

What to Pack for Walt Disney World in November 2024

Packing for Walt Disney World in November 2024 means packing for a pleasant weather during the day and cooler weather at night.

With Christmas cheer, the smell of gingerbread and holiday festivities setting the tone, it’s fun to get into the spirit of the season and pack a seasonal outfit. Evenings will be cool, so if you’re spending time outside after dark, a hoodie or light jacket is a good thing to bring.

In addition to the Christmas parties, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival continues throughout the month of November, with its last day on November 23, 2024. So you can still bring along some themed clothes for that if you are a foodie who love to take part.

Most days are warm enough for shorts if you like to hang on to them as long as possible, but you should pack something that will cover your legs at night. If you tend to get chilled when the temperatures dip into the 50s, bear that in mind when packing.

Watch for extra crowds towards the end of the month when Thanksgiving falls upon Walt Disney World. If you are there at this time and you plan to dine out to celebrate, feel free to pack a nicer casual outfit to dine in style for Thanksgiving.

  • If you’re traveling to Walt Disney World during the colder winter months, you may be wondering if there are certain things you need to pack for Florida in the winter.

There are a few things about packing for Walt Disney World in winter that you may not have considered

We answer the top five most common questions that we’ve been asked over the years from travelers visiting Disney World in the winter for the first time.

Five Questions and Answers About Packing for a Winter Walt Disney World Vacation

The five most common questions that you’re probably asking yourself if you’re traveling to Walt Disney World in winter for the very first time.

    1. Will I need a heavy coat?

You won’t usually need a heavy coat for Walt Disney World in the winter. Can it get cold enough for a ski jacket? Sure, it has happened. But generally, you should be fine with a jacket or hoodie, particularly if you plan to visit the parks or go out after dark. The Florida sun brings warmth in the winter, but once the sun sets you feel the cold a lot more.

    2. Should I bring a swim suit?

It’s usually cool during the winter months (December and January for example) and the Disney resort hotel pools are not crowded. Do people swim? Yes, some do. One option is to hop in the hot tub by the pool. That way you can keep warm and still get that outdoor pool feeling. So if you don’t mind swimming in cooler temps (or if your kids don’t), then packing a swimsuit is not a bad idea. Just remember you may need a warmer cover up when walking to and from the pool as the air will be cooler than summer months.

    3. Will I need a poncho or umbrella?

This is an interesting question because in the past we would have said no. It didn’t used to rain too much in the winter during our Disney World vacations, however, that has changed. We’re not fans of ponchos in the hot summer months, but when the air is cooler during the winter, a poncho is not a bad idea. If the weather calls for rain, then a rain jacket (which can double as your cool night jacket), poncho or small travel umbrella are items to consider.

    4. Can I still wear shorts?

If you are a shorts person and like the freedom and light packing that come with wearing shorts, then by all means you can get away with wearing shorts on a sunny winter day at Walt Disney World. You might need something a little more after the sun goes down, however, which brings us to our next point.

    5. Should I pack jeans, long pants or leggings?

Even when shorts are a great option in the sunny hours of the day, nighttime at Walt Disney World in the winter can be much cooler. We find that night temperatures can still be comfortable for shorts at times, but at others (when it gets colder), you will likely be far more comfortable with your legs covered (especially if it’s windy). So, we recommend that you bring at least one pair of leg coverings of your choice. It could be what you wear on travel day if you’re coming from a cooler climate, which will save luggage space (the same goes for your jacket, by the way).

Top Tip: Check the Orlando Weather Before Your Leave

As always, be sure to check to the weather at Walt Disney World on a local Orlando weather app the day before you leave in order to get the best forecast for your vacation period. That may help to tip the scale one way or another if you’re not sure about packing a certain item or two.

  • What is the most popular spot for graphics to appear on t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies? And what difference does it make?

What is the Best Spot for Graphics on Hoodies, Sweatshirts and T-Shirts?

Graphics hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts have been popular for decades. Originally, it began with printed graphics or words on the front center of the garment only.

But things have changed a lot over the years.

Nowadays you can find graphics printed on the front, back, front and back, left chest, sleeve, upper arm and more. So which style of t-shirt is the most popular and which designs suit buyers the best?

Six Common Graphic Placements on T-Shirts, Sweatshirts and Hoodies

    Center Chest Graphic

This is the most common graphic placement, centered in the top half of the t-shirt, sweatshirt or hoodie. The center chest can be smaller in size, especially if its an embroidery.

    Full Front Graphic

The full front design covers the full length of the shirt. It is centered, but stretches from top to bottom. This is often seen for large letter message designs.

    Left Chest Graphic

The left chest design is typically a small logo or iconic. It is sometimes embroidered and popular on golf shirts and polo shirts as well as t-shirts. These are simple, iconic placements avoiding too much detail due to the small size.

    Sleeve and Arm Graphics

On t-shirts, the sleeve design is often a logo or another element that ties into a main graphic on the front or back of the shirt. The same goes for arm printing on hoodies and sweatshirts.

    Upper Back Graphics

The upper back design is popular and often paired with the left chest design on the front. The upper back stretches across the shoulder blade area.

    Full Back Graphics

When you think of full back graphics, concert t-shirts immediately come to mind. The concert t-shirt makes full use of the space on the back of a t-shirt or hoodie, often listing cities from tour dates. Of course, there are full back graphics for all kinds of things.

Fun Fact: The first ever concert t-shirt was an Elvis Presley shirt in 1956, while the first ever band tour t-shirt was reportedly created for the Beatles U.S. tour in 1964.

Disney Loves Graphics on the Back

Have you ever been looking for a garment in a Disney shop, found one you liked the front of…then turned it around and saw a huge graphic on the back that turned you off? If you’re not someone who likes the concert style t-shirts and hoodies with full-back placement of graphics, then it can be challenging when it comes to Disney apparel.

Disney absolutely loves the back placement for their graphics. It also matters what that design is composed of: simple graphics can work well, but the overly colorful and bold cartoon-style artwork can be a bit much.

We place a lot of thought into the composition of our designs on t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and more. Just because you can cover every inch of a garment, doesn’t always mean that you should.

So, on the rare occasion that we do venture into back graphic placements at 1923 Main Street, we tend to stick to solid design principles, with a focus on elegant and timeless style.

For hoodies, the back placement of a graphic offers a lot more real estate than the front, since the kangaroo pocket on the front of hoodies limits how much space a graphic can have.

Similar to graphics on the front of a t-shirt or sweatshirt, back graphics on a hoodie can be located either on the upper back or cover the full back of the garment. The reason that we do not do any back graphic hoodies here at 1923 Main Street is because the hood itself will block a portion of the design when its down. We don’t find that to be a good design aesthetic, so we don’t produce this type of product (at least we haven’t so far).

What is the Most Popular Graphic Placement on a T-Shirt, Sweatshirt or Hoodie?

The front graphic is the most common placement that we see today.

The front graphic on a t-shirt is how it all began, so it’s really no surprise that it remains very popular to this day. However, back graphics, arm graphics and chest graphics are all great enhancements and very common, as they can help to make specific designs even more unique and more stylish.

As a leading designer of subtle Disney-inspired graphic shirts, at 1923 Main Street we determine the style and placement of graphics based on several factors, including the graphic itself, the colors, the subject matter and the garment(s) where it will appear. A lot of thought goes into how and where graphics will appear on a particular piece of clothing.

We tend to take a minimalistic approach to design, avoiding “loud” and overly busy graphics that we believe can muddy the message and design itself. At the end of the day, it’s all about personal style and finding something that’s just right for you.

We looked at what’s hot for Disney in 2024 and created this list of well over 20 Disney-inspired Halloween costumes that are totally on-trend for 2024.

Seven Trending Disney Halloween Costume Themes for 2024

Want to dress up in a Disney-themed Halloween costume this year, but not sure what to wear? We looked at what’s hot for Disney in 2024 and created this list of well over 20 Disney-inspired Halloween costumes that are totally on-trend for 2024.

There are seven Disney themes covering options for everyone here, including individuals, couples and group costumes.

Our Top Picks for Disney Halloween Costume Ideas for 2024

    1. Inside Out

Inside Out 2 was a smash hit for Disney in 2024 and that brings a huge opportunity for Disney Halloween costume ideas that will be right on trend. With popular characters including Disgust, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and more, you can go as your favorite character or a make a group costume by dressing as several of these. Have fun with creating your interpretation of your favorite from Inside Out 2.

    2. Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool, Wolverine, Elektra, Blade, Johnny Storm… the list goes on and on. Dress as your favorite character from this 2024 Disney Marvel blockbuster film and you’ll be right on trend for Disney Halloween 2024.

    3. Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion had a great year in 2024. First, there was a significant refurbishment at the Disneyland Haunted Mansion this year (including an updated seasonal ride overlay). Next, there was the return of the Hatbox Ghost to the Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion late last year. Both of these have added new energy to this timeless classic and make it worthy as a Halloween costume inspiration.

Great Haunted Mansion Halloween costume ideas for 2024 include the Hatbox Ghost, Madame Leota and the Hitchhiking Ghosts for a group idea. You can even go a step further and dress as a Haunted Mansion cast member if you want to get really creative.

Plus, with 999 Happy Haunts as residents, you can go even deeper, with costumes such as Constance Hatchaway (aka the axe wielding Bride in the attic), or your favorite character from inside the mansion.

    4. Agatha Harkness and Witches

Witch costumes are definitely a great Disney inspired choice for 2024, led by Agatha Harkness and the Agatha All Along series on Disney Plus. You can do your best Agatha, or any witch inspired costume based on your favorite character from the series.

    5. The Classic Ape

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was a hit for Disney in 2024 (the first film of a three movie trilogy) and this opens the door for a return to the classic ape costumes that were super popular when the original films were released. You may recall the episode of Big Bang Theory when Leonard, Raj and Howard dressed up for film-fest of the original movies. If you’re a fan of the franchise, grab your ape mask and update your outfit for Halloween 2024.

    6. Retro Swimmer

Want to wear something totally different, Disney-inspired, that no one else will be wearing?

Daisy Ridley as Gertrude Eberle in Young Woman and the Sea was the sleeper film of the year. An excellent Disney movie (you should watch it if you haven’t seen it), this one opens the door for swimmer-inspired retro outfits. Grab your vintage bathing cap and swimsuit (or anything from the 1920s era) and you’re on your way.

If you want to go with something that’s a little different, but still Disney inspired, this is a great one to consider.

    7. The Disney Classic Halloween Costumes

Finally, some Disney classic Halloween costumes never go out of style and the big three are Maleficent, Jack Skellington and Sally. If you’re looking for a timeless Disney Halloween costume this may just be the vibe for you.

  • Hoodies are very popular at Walt Disney World, especially during the evening hours during the colder months. So which hoodie should you wear and where did hoodies come from in the first place?

The History of the Hoodie: Who Invented the Hoodie?

Which Style of Hoodie is the Best Hoodie for a Disney World Vacation?

All Hoodies are Not Created Equal, So How Do You Choose?

    Who Invented the Hoodie?

Today’s popular hoodie has a long history that goes all the way back to the 1930s, when the Knickerbocker Knitting Company designed the first hoodie sweatshirt (they basically sewed a hood onto a sweatshirt to add extra warmth). Today, that pioneering hoodie company is known as Champion.

After its launch, the hoodie gained popularity with the military, who found the design to be great for training purposes. Colleges and universities gave the hoodie enhanced popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, when the hoodie became synonymous with sportswear and branded logo hoodies emerged.

In the 1970s, skaters, surfers and the emerging rap and hip hop scene gave the hoodie a more “cool” and urban street vibe. With the release of the first Rocky film in 1976, the hoodie gained even more exposure as apparel for gritty athletics, as Rocky trained hard in his hoodie.

Nowadays, the hoodie remains very popular with even more variations: from sports, to street style, college athletics and functional casual wear. The hoodie is now firmly cemented as an iconic staple of casual wear apparel.

    The Five Types of Hoodies

There are many variations of the classic hoodie, but the five main hoodie styles we tend to see include:

Pullover Hoodie with PouchPullover Hoodie, CroppedZip-Up HoodiePullover Hoodie no PouchPullover Hoodie, Short Sleeved

Within each of these five hoodie categories there are various types and styles, primarily based on weight and fabric. There are branded and non-branded hoodies and various color options and all-over-prints.

Hoodies are both a fashion statement and functional piece of apparel. Unlike the original plain grey hoodie (the kind of hoodie that Rocky wore in the ‘70s), it’s rare nowadays that you’ll see a plain blank hoodie with no graphic at all. The hoodie has gone fully commercial, a trend that took off in the 1990s.

Hoodies at Walt Disney World: Which Should You Wear?

At Walt Disney World, hoodies tend to appear in full force when the weather gets a little chilly and Cast Members roll out the hoodie racks for eager buyers.

So which hoodie is best? The most common and most popular hoodies are pullovers and zip ups. Pullover hoodies tend to be more popular, but if you prefer the convenience of a front zipper (the hoodie jacket), then the zip up hoodie can add more flexibility. Aesthetically, the pullover hoodie tends to have cleaner lines and a more traditional look – especially if a graphic is featured on the front (where it won’t be broken up by a zipper).

Ultimately, the choice of which hoodie is best comes down to personal preference: the perfect combination of comfort, fit and style.

  • Will you be visiting Walt Disney World in October 2024? October is typically a great month to visit Orlando and Walt Disney World. This year, it looks like the weather will co-operate to make for some great vacation time at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

How to Dress for October Weather and the Halloween Season at Walt Disney World

October 2024 in Orlando is Shaping Up to Be a Pretty Good Weather Month

October can be a great month to visit Disney World, especially if you like Halloween. Halloween décor and festivities are in full swing in October and the spooky season mood will be all around you. Of course, if Halloween isn’t your thing, it’s not the only game in town. The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is also under way in October, making a great option for more Disney fun and food.

Also in October, Canadian Thanksgiving happens mid-month (October 14), so if you are visiting Walt Disney World at that time you may see elevated crowds surrounding that weekend.

Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World in October 2024

The forecast for October 2024 at Walt Disney World continues this year’s trend of warmer-than-normal weather for Orlando.

For October 2024, Orlando and Walt Disney World daytime highs are forecast to range from 79°F (26°C) to 88°F (31°C), while nighttime lows will hover around 66°F (19°C) to 73°F (23°C). This is a little cooler than September, but still very warm and pleasant for your Disney vacation.

Another good sign is that there isn’t expected to be too much rain in the forecast. Of course, rain can be somewhat unpredictable in Orlando (especially with warmer temperatures), but October is looking to be a little drier than September.

October will start out with temperatures on the warmer side and then cool very slightly as the month progresses. All in all, however, October 2024 is shaping up to be a very good weather month at Walt Disney World.

What to Pack for Walt Disney World in October 2024

Packing for Walt Disney World in October 2024 means packing for a warm weather vacation. The nights will not be cold, so you can still get away with packing relatively light this October.

With Halloween being in full swing in October, it’s definitely a good idea to pack a seasonal outfit, t-shirt, sweatshirt or hoodie – if you have one. Evenings should be just cool enough on some days so that you won’t be too hot in a hoodie once the sun goes down.

Of course, if you plan to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom Park, you may want to bring a costume of some sort to celebrate the event.

Beyond Halloween, it’s also fall, so fall-themed attire is another top pick for October at Walt Disney World.

Given the warm temperatures, daytime outfits can include t-shirts, shorts, dresses and pretty much anything that you’d wear on a nice summer day. Evenings will be moderately cooler, so a hoodie or light jacket for after the sun goes down is also worth packing.

  • The EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is a popular annual event at Walt Disney World that is a celebration of everything to do with food and drink. From food sampling stations, to wine tasting, instructional kitchens and more, there is something for everyone who enjoys celebrating food and wine (and other beverages as well).

If You’re Attending the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, Should You Dress Up?

Unlike Disney events such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the EPCOT festivals aren’t events that many people consider as dressing-up occasions.

But there are many guests who do like to dress for the occasion and if you enjoy styling outfits for events that you attend, then the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is a perfect place to put a little thought into your outfit.

So should you dress up? We say yes, at least in terms of putting a little thought into styling your outfit with a hint of food and wine fest flair.

What Should You Wear to the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival?

For the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, it’s not so much about dressing up as it is picking the perfect outfit. It’s styling your outfit versus wearing a costume.

Getting into the food and wine vibe is a great place to start. What you wear could be anything from graphic tees or print shirts that have food and wine theming, to something that you might wear to a vineyard for a wine tasting.

Most guests do not dress up, so you might not want to go too far with your outfit. After all, you will be walking around a fair bit in Florida heat and humidity, so it’s wise to balance style with functionality.

Personally, we believe that the Food and Wine Festival would be elevated if more guests did put a little more effort in their personal style when visiting the event. Plus, it makes it more fun and immersive for all attendees when the theming is extended to the attendees.

    What do you think?

  • If you plan to visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland during the Halloween season, should you dress up to join in the festivities? Will you feel out of place if you don’t dress up? And if you do dress up, what should you wear?

The Spooky Season is Here, Do Disney Guests Really Dress Up for Halloween?

Halloween at Disney World and Disneyland is a fun time of year. Disney goes all out with décor, treats, food, shows and even special ride overlays at Disneyland (too bad Disney World doesn’t do the same). So it’s not surprising that many guests embrace the spirit of Halloween with a little extra magic in their outfits.

But should you dress up for Disney Halloween?

Are You Going to a Disney Halloween Party?

While some Disney Park guests do dress up a little during Halloween, it’s really only during the Halloween parties that you’ll see a larger number of guests dressing up in their favorite costumes.

Many kids dress up for their Disney vacations all year long (princesses, Star Wars characters, Marvel characters etc.), but adults are truly allowed to go full costume only during the Halloween season (yes, there is a dress code specifically for this).

Will You Feel Out of Place if You Don’t Dress Up for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Boo Bash?

    The answer is no.

Many children and teens dress up, as do many adults. But not everyone dresses up for Disney Halloween. Far from it. So you won’t feel out of place if you don’t dress up.

Costume Considerations for Disney Halloween Parties

If you do want to dress up for a Disney Halloween party, what should you wear?

The costume you wear to a Disney Halloween party really comes down to why you want to dress up. If you want to dress up so that you can really get into the spirit and be fully immersive, then by all means you can go all out with your costume (within Disney dress code guidelines).

Cast Members will often acknowledge great costumes and you’ll certainly be able to get some great photos in the Halloween vibe. But, going all out on a costume can come at the cost of comfort, maneuverability and the ability to easily ride rides (depending on the costume).

The next (and probably most common approach) is to strike a balance between dressing up to some degree (you’ll see a lot of Disney bounding in this category), while still being uninhibited by your costume.

The final approach is to not dress up at all and just go to the party to enjoy the ambiance, sights and sounds. You won’t feel out of place if you’re not in costume, as you certainly won’t be the only one.

  • How to Dress for the Beginning of Fall at Walt Disney World in September

Are you traveling to Walt Disney World in September 2024? September is a unique month in Orlando and at Walt Disney World. There a few things that you really need to know when picking your outfits and packing for September weather in Orlando.

September in Orlando is a Shoulder Season, Which Means Be Prepared for Anything

September is a great month to visit Disney World, particularly when it comes to lower crowd levels and fun events. This is the month where you can enjoy the best of Disney Halloween and the food and flavors of the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival all in one trip.

However, preparing for potential weather conditions during the month of September at Walt Disney World is a little trickier. As a shoulder month, there can be various weather impacts in the month of September and 2024 looks like it may be a wetter month than recent years.

What to Pack for Walt Disney World in September 2024

Packing for September 2024 will be different this year, as the weather is looking to be a little hotter than normal and a little wetter as well. Packing like you would for August is probably a safe bet this year, which is not always the case for the first official month of fall at Walt Disney World.

Plus, with Halloween in full swing and the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival fully underway, you may want to consider packing a special outfit or two if you plan to take part in the festivities (both of which are highly recommended).

Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World in September 2024

The forecast for September 2024 at Walt Disney World includes the kind of oppressive heat and humidity that you pretty much expect in Orlando at this time of year.

For September 2024, Orlando and Walt Disney World daytime highs should range from 86°F (30°C) to 95°F (35°C), while nighttime lows will hover around 73°F (23°C) to 79°F (26°C). And remember, these temperatures do not include humidity/humidex, so be aware that it can easily feel much hotter than this on most days.

Unfortunately, the forecast for September 2024 in Orlando includes rain on 15 of 30 days, with the week of September 15 predicted to be particularly wet. Of course, we all know that weather prediction is hardly a science, but still it is something to consider if you’re visiting this month.

When you couple the warm temperatures continuing on into September with the forecast rain, you can prepare for humidity that will impact on both your park stamina and the clothes that you wear, so pack with this in mind.

Active weather, including tropical storms and hurricanes, is still possible as well in September. You can plan in advance for these by checking the local weather (on a local Orlando weather app) the day before you leave for your vacation. That will give you the most up-to-date outlook for the week of your vacation.

What to Wear in Walt Disney World in September

This year, September weather means you can continue to pack lighter clothing as you would in the summer. Light colors (which are great in the hot sun) are not as critical for the month as the forecast calls for a lot of cloud cover. Given the chance of showers and active weather, quick dry clothing and footwear are good picks to pack for September 2024 at Walt Disney World.

  • Disney guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland don’t dress the same when it comes to Mickey wear and more. So which resort has visitors who wear more Disney inspired clothing and why do guests dress differently at Disney World and Disneyland?

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Guests Don’t Dress the Same, Here’s What We Noticed

One of the great things about visiting both Walt Disney World and Disneyland is that the resorts and parks are different, so you get a very different experience when visiting one or the other. But the differences aren’t only what you can see and do in the parks, the style of the guests who visit each resort is also different.

So what’s different about Disneyland and Walt Disney World guest style?

California weather has a couple of noticeable differences compared to Orlando: rain and humidity. Where it can rain at Walt Disney World on every day of your summer vacation, you’re unlikely to see any rain at all at Disneyland during the same time period. Plus, there is very little humidity at Disneyland Resort, which makes it much more comfortable to walk the parks (even in 90*F+ heat).

Weather aside, there are quite a few things that we noticed when comparing the guests in the crowds of Disneyland versus the guests at Walt Disney World.

How Guest Style Differs Between Disneyland and Walt Disney World

    Headwear

One of the most noticeable differences that really stands out (possibly because it is at eye level) is that there are far fewer Disney mouse ears and mouse headbands on guests at Disneyland versus Walt Disney World.

    Disney-Branded Clothes

Similar to mouse ears and mouse ear headbands, there are also far fewer Disney clothes on guests at Disneyland. Whereas the majority of guests (on an average day) at Walt Disney World have some sort of Mickey wear on, it’s quite a different story at Disneyland. Mickey wear and Disney character clothes are in the minority. You do see some, of course, but the difference is noticeable. Along the same lines, there are far fewer couples, families and groups wearing matching Disney shirts as well. In fact, over the course of a week visiting both Disneyland parks daily, I saw two instances of matching Disney shirts.

    Footwear

When it comes to footwear, things are not dramatically different at Disneyland versus Walt Disney World, with one notable differences. We noticed far fewer Crocs on guests at Disneyland compared to what you tend to see at Walt Disney World.

What Causes the Guest Style Differences Between Disneyland and Walt Disney World?

It’s hard to say why Disneyland guests tends to be less decked out in Disney wear than guests at Walt Disney World. It may be that California residents are more fashion and style conscious and so they value personal style over Disney wear for their park visits. The fact that California weather is less humid and less rainy likely does not have an impact on outfit choices. Guests at Disneyland are still wearing the same types of clothes as their counterparts at Walt Disney World in Florida (t-shirts, shorts, dresses etc.), it’s just that they are not predominantly Disney branded or Disney related items.

  • If you're wondering if it's possible to fly to Walt Disney World with carry-on luggage only, the answer is yes. We share the top five benefits of doing carry-on only and how it's easy to pack for a week's vacation with carry-on only.

Ever since Covid hit in 2020 and bag check became a universal nightmare at airports around the globe, we have never checked a bag again.

We travel to Walt Disney World and Disneyland at least three times each year, plus we have had European vacations and more during this time and have not checked a single bag.

For most airlines, you are allowed one free carry-on bag, plus one additional bag – like a backpack. This is an important part of the carry-on packing strategy, since the backpack can be a fallback for additional items that may not fit neatly into your carry-on.

Five Reasons Why Should Only Do Carry-On on Your Disney Vacation

    1. Saves You Money

The first and easiest reason is that it typically saves you money when you go with carry-on bags only. Carry-on is less costly (usually free), so the savings increase with the size of your group. Airlines may soon charge for carry-on baggage, but for the time being, it’s usually going to save you money on checked baggage fees if you go with carry-on bags only.

    2. Forces You to Pack Light

Overpacking is one of the worst habits of many travelers, and Disney travelers in particular can ten to overpack on Disney outfits. Remember, five to seven outfits is plenty. Even less if you will typically wear only two pairs of shorts for the week (for men at least). Shoes is also one of the biggest issues travelers have. I pack only one pair (and one pair of flip flops for pool time, but those are flat and don’t take up much room). So if you are a shoe person, try to limit yourself to two pairs maximum,

    3. Faster to Get out of the Airport at Orlando International Airport (MCO)

When you land in Orlando, everyone is usually itching to get out of the airport and get to Walt Disney World as quickly as possible. The carry-on strategy is your biggest friend here as you will get to walk right by the crowds hovering around the baggage carousels waiting (im)patiently for their bags to arrive. If you go with carry-on baggage only, you can skip this time sucker altogether and be out of the airport and on your way to WDW an hour faster.

    4. Easier to Maneuver at the Airport, Hotel and Everywhere

Carry-on bags are smaller, lighter and easier to maneuver. So you will really enjoy the convenience at the airport, on your transportation, at the hotel and anywhere you need to lug your bags around. If you are going with a split-stay strategy (two or more hotels on your vacation), then carry-on bags is even better. First, you won’t have as much to repack (since you have a smaller bag in the first place) and second, switch hotels is so much easier when you only have small, light luggage to move.

    5. You’ll Have More Room in Your Room

With carry-on bags, you’ll find that you have more room in your hotel room. The small bags can make a huge difference in how much space is tied up by luggage. You’ll find you’re not tripping over bags or having to give up valuable room space to full size suitcases. Even with only two or three people, having only carry-on suitcases to deal with makes a big difference. So enjoy your extra space!

  • If you want to take great photos of your Disney outfits at Walt Disney World, there are five great spots that will consistently deliver exceptional photos for your social media feed or personal photo album. Want to be Disney fashion influencer? Here's how to get started with great Disney style photos.

The Five Best Photo Spots at Walt Disney World to Show Off an Outfit

What to Consider to Get the Best Photos of Your Disney Outfits at Disney World

The best time for photos under natural light is first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon (which generally will provide softer golden lighting. Overcast days and shaded areas are also great for providing picture perfect diffused and muted light. So if you are serious about getting a great photo for your social feed or to become a fashion/style influencer, get to your photo spot first thing in the morning. This will provide the best lighting and the lowest crowds.

By going early, the lower crowds mean that, at worst, you can use AI great to remove one or two errant people in the photo. But beyond one or two people, it can get trickier. Unless you are going for the blurred crowd effect (which is something to try if you find yourself in that situation).

Focal length, aperture and the distance to your subject can all affect how the final photo turns out. Plus, for scenic views you need to consider whether the background will be busy or uniform, and whether it will be blurred or more in focus. All of this makes a difference in your final photo. You can adjust much of this in post production using apps, but the more that you consider up front, the less work you will have to do later.

Five of the Best Outdoor Scenic Photo Locations for Disney Style

    1. Cinderella Castle

As a classic icon, Cinderella Castle has several vantage points that are perfect for unique and stylized fashion shots. This does not include the standard head-on shot from Main Street (where the PhotoPass photographers are positioned). Look for a unique angle on either side of the castle, with some good spots towards the back.

    2. Grand Floridian Resort

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort offers a ton of first rate outdoor photo spots. From sprawling green lawns, to great florals and tropical gardens, to beach photos and backgrounds of Seven Seas Lagoon, you can always find a great photo spot here. Of course, the white and red color palette of the majestic buildings are also picture perfect.

    3. Disney Boardwalk

The Walt Disney World Boardwalk has a number of options for unique and interesting fashion and style photos. From benches on the wooden boardwalk, to vistas of the Crescent Lake and the Yacht and Beach Club hotels in the distance, you will have the potential to get a ton of great shots here. If you are looking for that magical late afternoon golden hour sunlight, the Boardwalk area is perfect for that photo-friendly natural lighting.

    4. EPCOT: Morocco Pavilion, France Pavilion, By the fence around to World Showcase Lagoon

While EPCOT has no shortage of first-rate photo opp locations for fashion and style photos, there are two or three that stand out as top picks to explore. At the very back of the Morocco Pavilion, you will find a wonderful location with great lighting, interesting backdrops and few crowds. Nearby in the France Pavilion is another great area where you can capture some fashion and style photos featuring the charm of old Europe. For the France area, you will need to go early in the day for the optimal nature light and the lowest crowds.

Also in EPCOT, the blue water of World Showcase Lagoon can make a nice blurred background. Finding a location along the black iron rails next to the water can make for some excellent photos, assuming you time it right with the sun low in the sky or on an overcast day.

    5. Animal Kingdom: Harambe Marketplace area, Animal Kingdom

(Fichwa Fellow Wall, with Mickey Mouse, You are Most Beautiful wall)

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, the Harambe Marketplace are is filled with colorful backdrops and unique textures that can make for some excellent photo opps. The great thing about this area is that unlike some of the other popular Disney photo wall locations (which don’t have enough room to create distance between the camera, subject and backdrop), the Harambe area provides the perfect opportunity to set up for some great fashion photos.

Planning Your Disney Fashion Photos in Advance is Worth the Effort

Putting some thought into the photos before you take them will make a difference in the end result. If you are aiming to get some like-worthy fashion photos for your Instagram or social feed, then the extra effort and thought will pay off.

  • Ever wonder how to choose between two things when planning your Disney travel outfits? We answer 10 top questions, that each compare two Disney what-to-wear options, in 10 rounds of This or That: Disney Travel Fashion and Style Edition.

10 This or That Questions that Answer What’s Best to Wear in Disney Parks

Ever wonder how to choose between two things when planning your Disney travel outfits?

Mike and Amelia discuss, debate and pick the winners in 10 categories of Disney travel This or That? Get the answers to 10 top questions about this or that Disney travel fashion and style.

Disney Travel Style: This or That

    1. In the Disney Parks: Subtle Disney Shirt or Obvious Disney Shirt. This or That?

Subtle Disney shirt is our top pick in this category. Keep your obvious Disney shirts for back home when you're not on vacation. Plus, Disney Cast Members often comment on the subtle Disney shirts that they don't see every day.

    What about outside the Parks?

Outside the parks on a Disney vacation, subtle Disney shirts are still a top pick.

    2. For a casual dinner (such as the Grand Floridian Café): casual shorts/leggings or a dress? This or That?

A dress is a great option for women, as it's a little more, well, dressy.

For men: nice casual shorts and a short sleeve button up shirt or pants and casual dress shirt?

For men, casual shorts with a short sleeve button shirt is a great choice and can be worn on many other occasions on your vacation.

    3. For visiting the Disney Parks: a hat or Disney ears? This or That?

Disney ears are the winner here, because there aren't many other places you can really wear Disney ears and feel confident. But this doesn't include if you need a hat for utility purposes.

    4. Wearing a hat in Disney Parks: a ball cap or wide brim hat? This or That?

A ball cap is more functional if you go on a lot of rides. They can be stowed and stored more easily. But, you will get a ball-cap tanline (if you're concerned about that). A wide brim hat offers more protection and is a good choice if you don't go on fast rides.

    5. For Disney World in cooler weather: jeans or leggings? This or That?

While there is a bit of an anti-jeans feeling among many Disney travelers, Amelia still feels that leggings or loose pants are a better pick (also considering that jeans are less forgiving around the waistline). Mike is a little more on the anti-jeans side of the fence.

    6. For Disney Parks in cooler weather: a hoodie or sweatshirt? This or That?

This one's close and can depend on whether or not the hoodie is zip up or pullover (zip up offers more flexibility). The crew neck sweatshirt gets a slight edge here.

    7. Walking the Disney Parks: Converse Chuck Taylor’s or Running Shoes/sneakers? This or That?

The response is split on this one. Amelia recommends sneakers or tennis shoes, while Mike prefers his Converse All-Stars. Your best bet here is to get with what is most comfortable for you in other long-walk situations.

    8. A cotton t-shirt or a button-up short-sleeve shirt? This or That?

Mike recommends a short-sleeve button-up shirt over the t-shirt here. Mainly because button-up shirts are less hot and more flexible for both parks and dining.

    9. Which top is best: cotton or linen? This or That?

Assuming the best quality of both items, linen is the pick for both Mike and Amelia.

    10. If you need to carry a bag in a Disney Park: a backpack or sling bag/crossbody? This or That?

For easy access and less bulk, the crossbody or sling bag is the winner here. Small backpacks were trendy 10 years ago and are not as accessible. So unless you need a large backpack for utility reasons, go with the more flexible crossbody type of bag.

  • Are you traveling to Walt Disney World in August? Here is what you need to know to pack for August weather in Orlando.

The Hottest and Steamiest Month of the Year is Still a Great Time to Go, If You Go Prepared

August at Walt Disney World is the hottest, stickiest and wettest month of the year for a Disney vacation. The key to a great time is knowing what to pack and how to plan your days for the dog days of summer at Disney World.

What to Pack for Walt Disney World in August 2024

We spend a week at Walt Disney World every August and the lazy, hazy days of August require that you pack appropriately for the weather you’ll likely encounter. This means packing for heat, humidity and being prepared for lots of pop-up wet weather.

Weather Forecast for Walt Disney World in August 2024

The forecast for August 2024 at Walt Disney World includes the kind of oppressive heat and humidity that you pretty much expect in Orlando at this time of year.

For August 2024, Orlando and Walt Disney World daytime highs should range from 90°F (32°C) to 93°F (34°C), while nighttime lows will hover around 79°F (26°C) to 81°F (27°C). These temperatures do not include humidity/humidex, so be aware that it will feel much hotter than this on most days, likely into the 100°F+ range. During August at Walt Disney World, you don’t get much relief from the heat and humidity after dark. The humidity has a huge impact on both your overall stamina and the clothes that you wear, so pack wisely and accordingly.

Another consideration to bear in mind always when visiting Walt Disney World in August is the potential for very active weather, including tropical storms and hurricanes. You can usually plan for these in advance, so be sure to check the local weather (on a local Orlando weather app) the day before you leave for your vacation. That will give you the most up-to-date outlook for the week (even then, weather can change quickly in Florida in the summer).

What to Wear in Walt Disney World in August

This is the time of year when you want to pack light. Light colors, lightweight clothing and quick dry clothing and footwear are what you should aim to pack.

At Walt Disney World in August, pop-up afternoon thunderstorms (including very heavy rain) are a normal occurrence. Try to avoid planning any important outdoor activities between approximately 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. If you do, be aware that weather could impact your plans.

Pack light color and lightweight t-shirts and tops. Quick dry shorts and bottoms are also a great choice (they tend to be lightweight) along with footwear that can dry quickly or at least not hold moisture for too long if you get caught in a deluge of rain.

  • Should you dress up in fancy clothes or a semi formal outfit at Walt Disney World? What should you wear to a Signature Dining restaurant at Disney World? Dressing up in upscale resort wear is definitely doable at Walt Disney World. Here's what you need to know.

What does Fancy Style Look Like on a Disney vacation?

While a Walt Disney World vacation is most often comprised of hot sunny weather and theme park days, there are occasions where you may want to dress up just a little bit for a night out, or dinner and drinks at a Signature Disney restaurant.

In most cases, you don’t need to bring formal wear or even a jacket and tie, unless you really want to. It is rare to see guests dressed up to that degree, unless they are part of a wedding party or heading to Victoria & Albert’s for dinner.

Still, it is nice to get a little more dressed up in the evenings, especially if you are heading out for dinner, drinks or to stroll through Disney Springs or see a show.

For women, dressing up at Disney World could include a nice breezy dress, or skirt and blouse combination is a great way to get upscale style while still staying in the spirit of your Disney vacation.

For men, casual pants or casual shorts (think business casual at work), along with a button-up shirt and casual shoes is the perfect way to go.

Dressing up for Dinner at Walt Disney World

For Disney Signature Restaurants, there is no singular dress code that applies to all. Victoria & Albert’s has the most stringent dress codes, while for the other Signature Dining Restaurants it really depends on the location.

Disney World Signature Dining restaurants located inside Disney Parks (such as Le Cellier, Tiffins, Takumi-Tei and the Hollywood Brown Derby) tend to be a little more casual and less formal, since most guests are having a theme park day.

For Disney World Signature Dining restaurants located inside Disney Resort Hotels or in Disney Springs the expectation is that guests will respect the restaurant’s ambiance and aesthetic with a little bit more attention.

No swimwear or ratty torn clothing, but rather neat and tidy resort wear at the very least.

You will find the specific dress code for each Disney Signature Dining Restaurant on the restaurant’s page at DisneyWorld.com.

    Disney Signature Dining Dress Code

The Dress Code on the restaurant page is the same for virtually all Disney Signature Restaurants. It states:

This restaurant is a Disney Signature Dining experience offering fine dining with a distinctly magical flair. Guests are expected to dress accordingly in attire that respects the restaurant's sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Clothing should be clean, neat and in good condition. Please no swimwear.

    Victoria & Albert’s Dress Code

The Dress Code for Victoria & Albert’s is unique as Walt Disney World. It states:

Victoria & Albert’s is an exquisite and intimate upscale dining experience and the culinary crown jewel of Walt Disney World Resort. Guests are expected to dress accordingly in semi-formal/formal attire that respects the restaurant’s elegant and opulent aesthetic.

    Disney Bounding and Dapper Days

Beyond bringing nicer clothes to dress up at Walt Disney World, guests may also take part in Disney Bounding and the occasional Dapper Days.

Disney Bounding is where you create an outfit that is inspired by a Disney character. It’s not a character costume, but rather an outfit that takes elements of a character’s style that you craft with your own clothes.

Dapper Days are specific days (not Disney official) where guests dress to the nines in vintage style clothing and outfits. You’ll definitely notice guests dressed up on Dapper Days at Disney, a true celebration of style.

  • Packing for a Disney vacation isn't just about what to wear for the weather or fashion, there's also a fairly detailed Disney dress code that you need to know about.

“Can I wear this outfit to Walt Disney World?”

What You Can and Can’t Wear on Your Walt Disney World Vacation

Choosing your wardrobe for a Walt Disney World vacation is part of the anticipatory build-up to your departure day. But did you know that Disney World has a set of guidelines for what you cannot wear in Disney Parks and Resort properties?

Part 1: This is a Family Park, So Dress Accordingly

Disney’s dress code for Walt Disney World begins with a general statement:

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense.

This is a reminder that Disney takes seriously its reputation as a wholesome family destination. If you have a local non-Disney theme park, then you might know what it’s like to see certain attire that would never make it past the front entrance of a Disney Park.

So if you’re wondering if a certain top or shorts will be allowed into a Disney Park, ask yourself if you’d consider it to be family friendly. That is the lens through which it will be viewed at the front gate.

A Look at the Disney World Dress Code and Guidelines

The next part of the Walt Disney World dress code gets a little more specific.

Part 2: Inappropriate Attire for Walt Disney World

It’s not all left up to the discretion of Cast Members, as there are some specific guidelines.

The Walt Disney World Dress Code clearly and plainly states that Cast Members can refuse entry, or kick you out of the park, if you are wearing anything that is inappropriate or that could detract from the experience of other guests.

Specifically, the Disney dress code states:

Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes, but is not limited to:

Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older.Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphicsExcessively torn clothingClothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environmentClothing that touches or drags on the groundClothing with multiple layers is subject to search upon entryObjectionable tattoos

    Costume Exceptions Include:

Specific Halloween and Christmas events*Some outfits inspired by Star Wars.

    * Note that Disney ticketed parties and events have their own specific dress codes, as does Galaxy’s Edge. So be sure to check those as well.

There are also general rules that apply to the entire Walt Disney World property. They include clothing, but go far beyond just clothing. You can find the Walt Disney World Property Rules here.

For the most part, Disneyland Resort in California has the exact same set of rules and regulations posted on its website.

  • Summer at Walt Disney World is a fun time to visit. But summer in Florida also means you’ll have to deal with rain, humidity and hot steamy weather. So what are the best clothing fabrics to wear in hot, humid weather? We share the top five fabrics for summer.

The Best Clothing Fabrics to Wear in a Hot, Sweaty and Steamy Orlando Summer

Aside from the usual tips about sunscreen, keeping hydrated and cooling off in the AC, what you wear can also be a make-or-break decision for your comfort in the parks and beyond.

Here is our guide to the best fabrics to wear in the summer at Walt Disney World, and also the ones you should avoid to stay cool and fresh in Florida's steamy summer.

The Five Best Fabrics to Wear in a Hot Humid Weather

When packing for your summer vacation to Walt Disney World, consider packing clothing made from the following materials to ensure your best possible comfort against the sometimes oppressive Florida summer heat.

Top Five Fabrics for Hot, Humid Weather

    (in no particular order)

    1. Cotton

Cotton is always mentioned as a summer fabric for good reason. Cotton is a natural fabric that's breathable and lightweight, which allows air to circulate freely around the body. Cotton also does a good job of absorbing moisture, which helps to keep sweat off your skin and prevent irritation. Remember, as we have discussed in past posts, there are different weights of cotton, so consider lightweights cotton t-shirts for optimal comfort.

Why Cotton is Great for Heat and Humidity:
    - Breathable and promotes air circulation

    - Soft and comfortable against the skin

    - Absorbs moisture, reducing sweat buildup

    2. Linen

Linen is another excellent choice for keeping cool in hot and humid climates. Made from flax fibers, linen is highly breathable and has natural moisture-wicking properties. Linen is also notable for its loose weave, which allows for better air flow that can help you stay cool.

Why Linen is Great for Heat and Humidity:
    - Extremely breathable and lightweight
    - Excellent moisture-wicking capabilities

    - Dries quickly, preventing sweat from sticking around

    3. Bamboo

While relatively new and not yet widely available as a clothing fabric, bamboo fabric is rapidly gaining popularity. If you find a bamboo clothing item that you like, it’s worth a try for Florida’s steamy summer weather. Bamboo is incredibly soft, breathable and has natural moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties, all of which combine to make bamboo fabric an ideal choice for humid conditions.

Why Bamboo Fabric is Great for Heat and Humidity:
    - Breathable and moisture-wicking

    - Naturally antibacterial, reducing odor

    - Soft and comfortable

    4. Rayon

Rayon is a semi-synthetic fabric made from natural fibers. It’s known for being lightweight and breathable, which makes it a good option for hot weather. It drapes well and can be found in many summer clothing items. However, rayon is as absorbent or moisture wicking as other options on the list, so rayon clothing would be a good pick if you want to bring a dress or nice outfit for an evening dinner or event.

Why Rayon is Good for Heat:

    - Lightweight and breathable

    - Soft and smooth texture

    - Good moisture absorption

    5. Chambray

Chambray is often mistaken for denim, but it's much lighter and more breathable, making it a great choice for that denim look in the heat of summer. As a cotton-based fabric, chambray is perfect for summer because it combines the sturdiness of denim with the lightness of cotton, so you get the best of both worlds with comfort and style.

Why Chambray is Great for Summer:

    - Lightweight compared to denim

    - Breathable and comfortable

    - Stylish yet practical for hot weather

Four Fabrics to Avoid Wearing to Walt Disney World in the Summer Heat

It’s not just about which fabrics are the best to wear in a hot and steamy Florida summer, it also helps to know which clothing fabrics you should avoid packing for your Disney vacation.

During the fall, winter and early spring, these four fabrics will do just fine. But in the sweatiest stickiest heat of a Florida summer, you may want to leave these items at home (unless you plan to wear them indoors in the air conditioning).

    1. Polyester

Polyester has a well-earned notorious reputation for being non-breathable. Polyester clothing traps heat and moisture, making it a bad choice for hot, humid weather. It is durable fabric that’s often used in activewear, but don’t let that fool you. Polyester is one clothing fabric that is best avoided during steamy Florida summers. Pay special attention to this with your kids’ clothes as well.

Why to Avoid Wearing Polyester in the Florida Summer:

    - Non-breathable, traps heat

    - Can cause excessive sweating

    - Can get very uncomfortable in humid conditions

    2. Nylon

Similar to polyester, nylon is not a very breathable fabric. Nylon clothing can trap moisture and heat against your skin, leading to discomfort and even the potential for skin irritation and rashes (which you definitely want to avoid at Disney World). While nylon is often used in activewear, it is not suited to humid climates—unless it is blended with breathable fabrics. Even then, if you see nylon on the label, we recommend avoiding this for a summer vacation in Orlando.

Why to Avoid Nylon Clothing in Humid Weather:

    - Traps heat and moisture

    - Not breathable

    - Can cause discomfort and irritation

    3. Acrylic

Acrylic is another synthetic fabric that is typically used in cooler weather due to its insulating properties. Wearing acrylic in hot, humid weather can lead to overheating, excessive sweating and even making you a little more odorous along the way. So skip acrylic clothing when packing for a Disney summer vacation.

Why to Avoid Acrylic Clothing in an Orlando Summer:

    - Insulates heat, not breathable

    - Can cause excessive sweating

    - Uncomfortable in hot conditions

    4. Silk

Silk is a tricky one that some people believe is good for hot humid weather. It’s not. While silk is lightweight and does feel luxuriously light, once the humidity kicks in, it’s not going to be a pleasant fabric to wear. Yes, silk can absorb moisture, but it doesn’t dry quickly. This means you’ll be left feeling sticky, uncomfortable and generally irritated in the high heat and humidity of summer at Walt Disney World.

Why to Avoid Wearing Silk in Heat and Humidity:

    - Absorbs moisture but dries slowly

    - Can feel sticky and uncomfortable

    - Delicate and requires special care

General Clothing Tips for Staying Cool at Walt Disney World

In addition to choosing the best clothing fabrics for hot, humid Florida weather, be sure to remember these general clothing tips for staying cool during a Disney World summer vacation.

    Choose Light Colors:

Dark colors attract and absorb more heat from the sun, while light colors reflect it. So skip the black and navy blue tops and go with whites, yellows or similar.

    Wear Loose-fitting Clothes:

Tight clothes tend to trap heat and restrict airflow. That’s not what you want on a hot, humid sticky day. Go for looser fitting shirts to promote better air circulation.

    Layer wisely:

Whether to layer at all is the first ...

  • Forget matching Disney shirts. Matching shirts for a Disney vacation may be a common way to theme your Disney travel outfits, but there's a much better (and more fun way) to get into the Disney spirit by theming your family wardrobe more creatively.

Choosing a theme can help to elevate and add some fun to your next Disney vacation

Packing outfits for a Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacation can be a lot of fun. Beyond the basics of packing for the season or the weather – or packing matching shirts for your family or group – there’s another way to really elevate your Disney vacation style.

If you’re like me and you’re not a big fan of matching Disney shirts, then this Disney fashion style is a great way to go.

Theming your wardrobe to your upcoming vacation (or at least part of it), can make it fun to pack and even more fun to co-ordinate with what you plan to do onsite.

Ideas for How to Theme Your Disney World Wardrobe

    Princess Theme

A Cinderella-inspired theme for your outfits, along with a visit to Cinderella’s Royal Table, a Cinderella Meet and greet and more.

Or, do the same with Princess Ariel, Princess Belle, or your favorite Disney princess.

    1920s New Orleans

Don't just do a Tiana wardrobe theme, expand it into 1920s New Orleans inspired outfits for the family. You can do everything from a Princess Tiana dress for your little ones, to more clever apparel for the adults and teens. Couple this with a Tiana Meet and Greet (she will love it), a ride on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and if you're at Disneyland, a visit to Tiana’s Palace and a stroll around New Orleans Square for photos.

    Toy Story Theme

Toy Story offers so many opportunities to have fun theming your family/group's apparel. Everything from your favorites from the movie, to your favorite toys as a kid...they're all fair game to inspire your outfits. Then, it's off to Toy Story Land for a few rides, dining at Round-Up Rodeo BBQ and Toy Story character meetings.

    Star Wars Theme

Star Wars also offers many opportunities to theme your family Disney outfits. Then, wander Galaxy’s Edge, visit Oga’s Cantina and pilot the Millennium Falcon.

    Animal Print Theme

Visiting Animal Kingdom Park is much more fun when you have your animal inspired family outfits. Take pictures in the park, meet characters, dine at Tusker House, ride Kilimanjaro Safaris and have a little fun with Wilderness Explorers.
