  • Douglas Taurel comes in to talk about, amongst other things, his powerful solo show "The American Soldier."

Doug instantaneously fits in and becomes one of my favorite old/new friends. Can't wait to have him back in.

Here's a little bit from his bio:

Whether it’s performing his one-man show to audiences around the country or his appearances on some of television’s most acclaimed series, Douglas Taurel, always gives his best. His resume is seasoned with roles from the stage to the silver screen and continues to grow. It’s not surprising that the media have called his work ‘flawless,’ ‘powerful,’ and ‘compelling.’

Taurel’s solo show, The American Soldier, has been touring across the country for the past two years. What started off as a project to honor veteran and their families, has turned into something much larger and more meaningful than he ever imagined. The play is based on real events and actual letters written by veterans and their family members from the American Revolution all the way through current day Afghanistan. The American Soldier has been nominated for the Amnesty International Award for theatre excellence, received 4 stars internationally, been featured in The Huffington Post, The Washington Post and Time Out to name a few and was performed at The Kennedy Center during inauguration weekend. Taurel will close the year out with a performance in Washington, D.C. for the Library of Congress on Veterans Day, November 11th and a special performance for members of the U.S Congress in December. The play has also inspired a TV web series which is being funded by Thomas Edison State Military University, slated to start production in 2018.

The foundation of his training as an actor, are his mentors Wynn Handman and Tim Phillips. Taurel has appeared in numerous television shows including “Mr. Robot”, “The Americans”, “Blue Bloods”, “Person of Interest,” “The Following,” “Damages,” “NYC 22,” “Believe,” and “Nurse Jackie.” His film credits include The Cobbler directed by Tom McCarthy and starring Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman and the upcoming The Kindergarten Teacher directed by Sara Conlangelo starring Maggie Gyllenhall. In the indie world, Taurel has appeared in many films including Into the Valley (release date in 2018), Delivery at the HBO Latin Films Festival, Help Wanted (Cinequest Online Viewers Choice), La Vida Blanca(L.A Film Festival Winner), and Hagondes (CUNU Festival Winner) to name a few. He also produced and starred in the short film Siesta, co-starring Zoe Mavroudi, performed it in both English and Spanish. It was officially selected and was screened at The Big Apple Film Festival, The Atlanta Short Fest, AADA New York and AADA Los Angeles Film Festival's and the Hamilton Film Festival.

Douglas grew up in Houston, Texas and is the son of Latin American parents. His mother is from Colombia and his father is from Argentina. Always challenging himself mentally and physically, Taurel boxed in college, has run two marathons (New York & Philadelphia), bagged all 10 Scottish Munros, ran with the bulls in Spain on his honeymoon and in 2012 climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. He’s lives in Hoboken, New Jersey, loves a good bourbon and is an Ole Miss alumni.

  • Stars of the incredibly funny top rated Australian comedy T.V.
show, Rosehaven, Celia and Luke take some time out to talk about Vegemite.

For their work on Rosehaven, Celia and Luke won the 2017 AWGIE Award for the best comedy script and are nominated for 3 AACTA Awards.

    Listen to this. They're funny.

Here's a little bit of their Bios:

    Celia:

Multi-award-winning comic Celia Pacquola has cemented her position as one of the most in demand comedians in Australia, while also forging a comedy career in the UK and abroad.

Her stand-out solo festival shows The Looking Glass, Let Me Know How It All Works Out, Delayed, Flying Solos and Am I Strange, have all garnered rave reviews wherever they were performed, from Melbourne to Edinburgh. In 2014 Celia was nominated for the Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the best show and won the Amused Moose Laughter Award at the Edinburgh Fringe. This year, Celia became the youngest woman to host the Oxfam Gala for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival/Network Ten.

Celia is also a two time AACTA award-winning actor with her roles in the acclaimed ABC1 series The Beautiful Lie, and in Working Dog's series Utopia. She has also starred in AACTA award-winning Laid and Logie Award winning drama Offspring. Her wit and jokes will be familiar from guest appearances on Spicks and Specks, The Project, Good News Week, Dirty Laundry, Have Been Paying Attention? and more. Internationally, Celia has been a guest on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Live At The Apollo, Chelsea Lately and The Rob Brydon Show. She was also handpicked to support John Oliver on his 2015 Australian Tour. Following this, Celia was invited to the 2016 Just For Laughs festival in Montreal to perform as part of the Carrie Fisher Gala.

In October 2016, Celia and her dear friend and Utopia colleague Luke McGregor starred on ABC1 in Rosehaven - a comedy series of their own creation.

    Luke:

Luke McGregor started his stand up comedy career in Tasmania in 2007 when he entered the raw comedy competition after one of the contestants didn’t show up. In 2008 he was selected as a Raw Comedy national finalist.

Luke was a regular performer and writer for three seasons on Channel 31’s Studio A. He has written on various TV projects including Legally Brown, It’s A Date 2 & Our Watch – Christmas Campaign.

In 2013 Luke’s first solo Melbourne International Comedy Festival Show ‘My Soul Mate Is Out Of My League’ played to sold out rooms and won the prestigious Best Newcomer Award. He then went on to perform a hugely successful season at London’s Soho Theatre.

Luke performed in the feature films Now Add Honey and Border Protection Squad in which he co-starred alongside Peter Helliar, Ryan Shelton, Dave Hughes and Lachy Hulme. On television, he has had regular roles on Utopia (ABC) and Legally Brown (SBS) and appeared on Time Of Our Lives (ABC1), Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me(ABC/Pivot), and the telemovie Scumbus. His ‘ginger wonderland’ date with Sibylla Budd in It’s A Date (ABC1) stole the show, and he garnered cult figure status amongst the celebrities lucky enough to be interviewed by him on Dirty Laundry (ABC2). Luke has also appeared on Hamish & Andy’s True Story, The Project as a correspondent, This Week Live, Spicks & Specks and the web series Noirhouse.

Luke performed his solo show ‘I Worry That I Worry Too Much’ at the 2014 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Luke had no need for undue ‘worry’ as he was moved to a bigger venue during the festival. Two thumbs up Mr McGregor! Immediately after the MICF, Luke took the show to the Sydney Comedy Festival and was awarded Best Newcomer 2014, another outstanding festival season. He then went on to perform his debut season at the Edinburgh Festival and a return season at the Soho Theatre in London. In 2015 he performed a return season of three sold out shows at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne.

In 2016 Luke presented Luke Warm Sex (ABC), a show that took an embarrassingly honest and humorous look at all things ‘sex’. Luke then teamed up with Celia Pacquola for the hit series Rosehaven (ABC) a new comedy filmed in Tasmania which they wrote and performed the lead roles in.

2017 has seen Luke return to stand up with sell out seasons of his brand new solo show ‘Almost Fixed It’ in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. Later this year, Luke will be back on the ABC with the second series of Rosehaven, with a new broadcast partner in the United States, SundanceTV.

  • Patrick Hickey Jr.: Author of the upcoming book: The Minds Behind the Games: Interviews With Cult & Classic Game Developers.

3PLT Crew Member Afrim Gjonbalaj kindly brings in his friend and Genius Brooklynite Patrick Hickey to talk about his book, his voice over work as the main character on the new video game "The Padre", his website and how horribly he treats the children in his family.

Patrick's website www.ReviewFix.com is your one stop for Video Game, TV, Movie, Music, Book and Graphic Novel reviews

    And...Here's a little bit of Patrick's Bio:

Founder, Editor-in-Chief, Master Jedi and Grand Pooh-bah of ReviewFix.com. Despite being an avid and prolific journalist over the past seven years, I find myself wanting more. During my career, I’ve spent time covering everything from minor league hockey and baseball to the New York Mets and the NHL and interviewing everyone from David Wright to Martin Brodeur. I’ve been published in over two dozen newspapers, magazines and websites and have won several awards along the way. In addition to teaching Journalism and English full-time at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, I am also a former News Editor at NBC Local Integrated Media and NAtional Video Games Writer at the late Examiner.com. I’m still hungry, though.

While sports writing has been a blast and still provides a tremendous rush for me, I felt a need to return to entertainment writing, an endeavor I supremely enjoyed while I was the EIC of two college newspapers. As a matter of fact, some of the greatest times in my journalistic career were those late nights in the editing and layout rooms, working with people and discussing pop culture. Sometimes, those would be the reasons why I enjoyed myself so much, aside from looking at our finished product at the end of the night.

After college, I continued writing and began teaching Journalism and felt that again, while sports writing will always be the Jennifer Love-Hewitt of my heart, I realized that I am a slave to this craft and need an Alyssa Milano of sorts. That, to me, at least, is entertainment writing. At this site, my staff -which I have gathered from my exploits as a professor and journalist- and I will be dedicated to bringing you the most up to date reviews in the entertainment world as well as reviews of older material you may not have seen, which eventually will create a one of a kind experience you’ll feel the need to see every single day, before we eventually own your soul.

Don’t fight it, my friends, embrace it.

You can reach me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. It is our goal to make this the most innovative and fun atmosphere we can. Help us make that happen.

My dear, wonderful genius of a friend, Francis Galluccio is too good for any of this and he barely tolerated being surrounded by a bunch of self centered, egotistical morons for the afternoon. However, we did feed him some nice Italian food which seemed to quell his rage, temporarily. Thanks for your patience and understanding Francis...now, here's Part 2 of this nonsense.

  • Johnny Rocket is a legendary Bar Band Frontman. For nearly 50 years, Johnny has been the lead singer of Johnny and The Rockets. He's played in thousands of venues all over America but his home base is Brooklyn, New York.

Known mostly as a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band, Johnny is not afraid to take on today's current hip-hop hits and that's what makes him so interesting. Nothing more unique than an old time rock and roll guy, in his late 60's, performing songs from DMX, Jay Z, Drake, Kanye and Kendrick Lamar.

  • Super Schooly M.C. is an underground Hip-Hop Legend. Born in Brooklyn, raised in the Bronx, Schooly is the most under appreciated Hip Hop artist of all time.

Highly regarded as the Real Godfather of Hip Hop, Schooly was the author, producer and performer of the very first Rap song, ever.

The name of the song is "Feel The Rhyme" and it dominated 8 track and cassette tapes all over New York City and the 5 Boroughs in the early to late 70's.

The victim of predatory record label executives and a system bent against him, Schooly never received the acclaim or the opportunities that he so deserved.

Unfazed by it all, with an indelible sprit and an incredible disposition, Schooly joins me in studio to talk about the past, the present and the future as things seem to be finally going his way.

  • Chris Mazzilli is the legendary owner of the legendary Gotham Comedy Club. Chris graciously opened up Gotham to us as we sat live on the main stage to talk with him about life, business and comedy. Thank you to my friend, Chad Dougatz for being there to record and to the great Billy Hayes for making it happen.

Here's a little bit of Chris' Bio:

Along with fellow Native New Yorker, Michael Reisman, Chris Mazzilli opened Gotham Comedy Club in May 1996. Mazzilli, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, was roundly praised at that time for his top to bottom design of the original 3,300 square foot space. "It's been ten years since a club of this magnitude opened in Manhattan," said Mazzilli at the time. We felt that it was time for changes in the way comedy clubs have been perceived: all comedy and no ambiance.

Over the past decade, Mazzilli has proven himself to be a leader in the industry, bringing comics such as Dave Chapelle, Lewis Black and Colin Quinn (to name a few) to his stage. Gotham Comedy Club has become the backdrop for many TV shows and films such as Jerry Seinfeld's 2002 Miramax film "Comedian" and Larry David's pilot of "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

These early opportunities with Strasberg’s method, Meisner’s technique and Clurman’s brilliance created a real foundation for future decades of learning and practice.

After joining Equity and SAG-AFTRA, Charles earned a B.A. in English from Williams College, one of the country’s top liberal arts colleges, and after assisting the Artistic Director at San Diego Repertory Theater, he went on to earn an M.F.A in Directing at Rutgers University, where his directing training was guided by Amy Saltz and Hal Scott, and his acting training in the Meisner technique was received from William Esper and Maggie Flanigan.
