It's hard to believe that we're already at the mid-year mark! Where did the time go? Time flies fast, while the practice of becoming a better trader sometimes doesn't feel like it's going fast enough, doesn't it? What worked, what didn't , and why? This is a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the last six months and check in, reflect, reset, and then refresh on your intentions for the remainder of the year. Do you need to pick yourself up and start again? There's no shame in that.

Could we really be victims of the market? Maybe. But, staying a victim can sometimes take the pressure off ourselves and makes it easier to stay in the helpless state and blame forces outside of ourselves until something or someone comes to our rescue. It takes awareness of this easy trap to fall into and if we are not aware of it, can take us down a dark and long path that will be difficult to come out of. Wouldn't we rather have the choice to face our obstacles and find a way to turn them into opportunities? Yes, it takes more effort, but it would be more effort to find our way out of a dark, lonely and long path .

Risk management is critical, but when we are so focused on not losing to the point where we have no healthy concept of taking calculated risks, we can lose sight of what our trading strategy is all about and the edge that needs to be in it.

Many traders start out very eager to learn with the goals of making money and doing well, but are not prepared for what it really takes to stay in the game. Staying in the game is the key to giving traders enough time to learn and improve and develop as a trader, but when a trader's Capital is wiped out because risk management was not taken seriously or incorporated consistently as part of their trading process, it is the reason why there is such a high turnover rate in traders.

This can be a tough topic! We're not used to asking ourselves this question, but we should ask it and reflect upon it. I would dare to say that when you are very clear on the purpose for why you choose to go into trading, and that purpose is connected to something deep, meaningful, and extremely important to you then you are much more likely to last long enough through the tough times in trading and get better at it than if your aim was just to make a lot of money or have quick success.

It's hard to be consistently self-disciplined for trading. Traders start out with a disadvantage when it comes to self-discipline because it doesn't come naturally to us as humans. But, we do have the power to change our thoughts and attitudes about self-discipline and how we approach it through practice, practice, and more practice. And we may fall back from time to time, but pick ourselves up, and do it again. This week's episode helps to reveal the realities of self-discipline and rethink how to approach it in a different way.

Feeling bored in your trading? That could actually be a positive sign that you're doing something right in your trading process. It probably means you actually have a trading process! That you have rules in place to protect you from yourself. Can you imagine always being excited about trading and being able to trade however you want, whenever you want? Yet, many traders do exactly that. Trading really should be more boring than exciting. This week's affirmations can help you to appreciate the boring parts of trading and look at it from a different light.

Last week's episode 8 on handling trading losses is an important topic that impacts all traders. It's one of the most challenging aspects of trading to accept, handle, grasp, manage, and overcome. Not only it can be financially draining, but also psychologically draining. But many traders can't help but continue to "react" to the losses and trading results by "revenge trading" or not pausing and reflecting to learn from the losses before putting on another trade. Instead of focusing on the trading results or outcome, focus on arming yourself with building a solid trading process and continue to improve your process because that is what you have control over, not what the market does to your trades.

Sometimes, a Trading Plan is not the most exciting thing to think about isn't it? Naturally, we like to be free and not bound by any rules. But, it is a necessity in successful trading, and having a trading plan actually frees us to focus on critical moments in trading and make better decisions. It also helps keep us out of big trouble, but it doesn't work if we don't follow it either. Putting together a trading plan and then following it takes practice until it becomes a habit.

We can learn a lot about ourselves when we trade. Trading can reflect and reveal aspects of ourselves, whether we are aware of it or not, whether we like it or not. But knowing this, for example, we can use it to understand and dig deeper into why we tend to do the same things over and over that isn't helping us in trading. Being more intentional in our practice to address directly the behaviors and habits that we have when we are not trading is just as important, if not more, as addressing behaviors and habits when we're trading.
