This episode is long overdue—it’s what I affectionately refer to as the Menopause Episode. While it’s undoubtedly valuable for women, it’s equally essential for men. After all, men have important women in their lives, and understanding menopause can benefit everyone.
Our special guest to hold our hand and guide us as we talk about menopause is Jane Hutchens, PhD. Jane has extensive experience in women’s health as an RN and educator. She has worked as a clinical nurse specialist in sexual and reproductive health, as well as an educator and manager in family planning. Jane holds a Master of Science in Medicine with a focus on reproductive health and a PhD in Public Health. Jane blends her orthodox medicine background with naturopathy training, allowing her to address menopause from both conventional and holistic angles.

Jinhyun Shin is a mental wellness entrepreneur and coach looking to normalize mental health. He is one of the founders of the mental health platform Penciv. Jinhyun is passionate about suicide prevention, especially by addressing the root cause of loneliness. As an ethnographer, he has explored the gap between people’s life situations and their inner feelings. He has created tools and language to help people understand and improve their mental health in practical and communal ways. He has worked with various groups, such as professional athletes, Fortune 500 companies, veterans, and people recovering from addiction, to share his insights and frameworks on mental health.

Justin Boyd Long is a self-embracing nerd who loves crunching numbers, researching interesting things, and listening to podcasts, in addition to reading loads of books. He got sober at 32 but still felt uncomfortable in his own skin so he started counseling to overcome his past trauma. Justin wrote about his therapy sessions in his book, The Righteous Rage of a Ten-Year-Old-Boy.

If you want the biggest health bang for your buck, ditch the drink and do Dry January. After 30 days off the sauce, you begin to see improvements in mental and physical health. People who take a break from drinking have shown improved sleep, less anxiety, clearer skin, better digestion, lower blood pressure, improved liver function and more energy.
This year it’s anticipated that over 1/3 (44%) of drinking aged adults will participate in Dry January!
