Today our guest is artist and designer Thanos Zakopoulos based in Milano, Italy.
Thanos Zakopoulos is a creator of varied forms and contexts. An artist, a designer and a photographer amongst other things, he likes to bring together different disciplines and situations creating projects which balance between contemporary art and design. He has presented and participated in many exhibitions around the world and has given lectures
in various occasions in Europe and China.
With artist and designer Katia Meneghini, Thanos has created CTRLZAK, a hybrid studio that integrates diverse disciplines and forms of expressions. the studio’s creations are based on extensive research into humanity’s cultural history and the natural world in order to create a meaningful future. Due to its’ interdisciplinary approach CTRLZAK specializes in art direction while creating artworks, objects and spaces but above all points of reflection whereform follows meaning. Through the use of semiotic tools within the creative process the studio conceives projects and orchestrates situations that surpass common aesthetic values operating on a deeper cognitive level, aspiring to make people consider their actions and the planet that we live in.

Today our guest is John Veikos architect an architecture practice based in Athens, Greece.
John Veikos is an architect. Educated at Cooper Union, Pratt and Cornell, John is the founder and director of Praxis Design Delivery, providing consulting to complex design projects, fabrication and façade designs, and a special projects director at Mossessian Architecture in London, UK, where John worked in projects in Shanghai, London, Doha and the UK among others. Also worked as Technical Coordinator for Raimund Abraham among other projects the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York, which is one of my favorite buildings.
John has spent his career providing design and technical expertise in award winning architectural projects, and has associated his career with leading architects such as Aldo Rossi, I.M. Pei and others.

Graduated in 1984 from the post graduate master’s degree program in Architecture from YALE University, and in 1981 from the bachelor of Architecture program of COOPER UNION in New York. Maria established her first office with partners architects James Panagos and Vassilis Papandreou in 2009, and later established ARC NEST in 2017. Between 2016 and 2019 Maria was appointed by the Mayor of the City of Athens as his Adviser for Urban Design, and was engaged in several Municipal projects – which we will talk about. Maria has received several awards and distinctions. In her work she combines the practice of architecture, urban planning, research and experimentation.

Maria Papafigou is an architect who for many years has shared her time between Athens and Stockholm where she until recently also taught architecture at the KTH. Maria studied architecture in Sweden, Spain and Greece. OOAK architects was founded in 2013 and is today run by Maria Papafigou and Johan Annerhed, who previously ran the Athens-based studio paan architects. Small in size, the office works with projects of different scales in a broad variety of environments around the globe, sensitively approaching each project in the context of its own conditions and needs. Maria was a speaker at ESO event in February 2020 in Athens, Greece organized by Vasilis.

Today our guests are Ivi Diamantopoulou and Jaffer Kolb of New Affiliates an architecture practice working between Athens and New York. Ivi Diamantopoulou is a graduate of Princeton University, where she was awarded the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize for excellence in design and the Stanley J. Seeger fellowship; and a Diploma with honors graduate of Architecture and Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. She is a registered architect in NY and Greece, with over a decade of experience in design and built work. Ivi frequently teaches design, history and theory of architecture, among others at Columbia and Syracuse Universities.
Jaffer Kolb is a graduate of Princeton University, with a Master of Urban Planning from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from Wesleyan University. Jaffer worked on the 13th Architecture Biennale of Venice under David Chipperfield and was the US editor for the Architectural Review. Jafer teaches at Yale School of Architecture and Columbia GSAPP. Ivi and Jaffer joined us as speakers at the ESO Conference in June in Athens, Greece organized by Vasilis.

Today our guest is Lydia Xynogala an architect working between Athens, Zurich and New York.
Lydia Xynogala is a practicing architect and parallel to her professional practice, her research examines natures of care and the tactics or after- effects of materialities' production. Focusing on their fuzzy assemblages she bypasses traditional dichotomies of the built and the natural.
Her architecture work has been featured among other places at Storefront for Art and Architecture, AIA Center for Architecture, gta exhibitions ETH Zurich and the Benaki Museum Athens.
Lydia is a graduate of Princeton University, the Cooper Union and the Bartlett, UCL and is currently a doctoral fellow at the ETH, gta institute for the History and Theory of architecture where she writes on the construction of a culture of care centered around natural resources in 20th century Greece.
Lydia has taught at ETH Zurich, Columbia GSAPP, The Cooper Union, RPI and City College of New York. Lydia is part of the Kyklada Press team and a participant at Onassis AiR 2020-21.

Peter Murray is Curator of New London Architecture and founder of the London Festival of Architecture. He is an architect graduate of the Architectural Assocation, journalist and designer and also Chairman of The London Society and Past Master of the Chartered Architects. He is a regular commentator and broadcaster on London issues, and a Mayor's Design Advocate. Peter is also a keen cyclist who campaigns for safer cycling and healthier cities. In 2021 Peter was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to leadership in the arts, architecture, city planning, design and publication and to charity. Peter joined us as a speaker at the Architects Show in December and ESO Conference in June both in Athens, Greece organized by Vasilis. Xander Vermeulen Windsant is principal architect and founder of XVW architectuur. He studied at Delft University of Technology graduating with Honours.
After working with one of the leading architecture offices in Amsterdam, he established XVW architectuur in 2010 in order to independently address a new agenda for architecture as a resilient response to a rapidly changing world. He sees the collaboration with future occupants as a key aspect of the design process. In 2017, this socially engaging approach won XVW the Mies van der Rohe Award’s EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
Xander Vermeulen Windsant has been a visiting lecturer at a number of institutions including the Delft University of Technology, Aarhus School of Architecture, Mendrisio and the Politcehnico Milano. He is a contributor to the Dutch Online Architecture platform Archined.nl. and was Chairman of the Architecture Center in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Today our guest is Rahel Belatchew an architect, founder of award- winning Belatchew Arkitekter firm in Sweden.
Rahel is an architect based in Stockholm, Sweden. She studied in Paris and Amsterdam and graduated from Ecole Speciale d' Architecture in Paris in 1996. She has practiced in France, Tokyo, and Luxemburg before establishing Belatchew Arkitekter in Stockholm. In 2006 she was awarded Architect of the Year and in 2007 the office was listed by Wallpaper magazine as one of 101 of the world's most exciting new architects.
Belatchew Artkitekter is an architectural practice with a proactive human-centric approach and the Belatchew Labs are a studio within the office that works on experimental projects and research and testing of new approaches to urban and architectonic issues.

Today our guest is Anna Tsagkalou, Architect and Co-Founder of the MOR Studio in the Netherlands.
Anna Tsagkalou is an architect, sustainability engineer and cofounder of MOR Studio. Anna graduated from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and continued her studies at TU Delft where she obtained an MSc in Building Technology. Her focus lies on developing an integrated design approach, where climate and energy performance- driven design are used as integral tools for creating sustainable architecture.

Today our guest is architect Ulf Meyer an, architect and writer based in Germany.
Ulf is an architect, former partner at Ingenhoven Architects and later Senior Associate with HENN Architects in Germany. He is a graduate of the Technical University (TU) of Berlin, and the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago he is the co-author of the book “The World’s Greenest Buildings”. Ulf in addition to being an architect, he is an architectural journalist and critic with over 1,000 articles and numerous books. Ulf has also taught architecture and lectured widely around the world
Ulf was a keynote speaker at ECOWEK in Italy, Poland, Denmark and Israel, and has contributed as a co-author in the first ECOWEEK book.

Today our guest is architect Thomas Rau an entrepreneur, architect, innovator, inspirer and visionary based in the Netherlands.
Thomas Rau motto is 'guided by the future' – ie. By what will be needed in the future and not by what is achievable at the moment.
Thomas has been making a major contribution to the national and international discussion about sustainability, the use of renewable energy sources in architecture and the question of how to act in light of the current scarcity of raw materials for decades. With his architectural firm RAU, he has set up various innovations and new standards in the field of carbon-neutral, energy-neutral and energy-positive construction, and recently also for circular architecture.
In 2010 he founded Turntoo, to create new business models for the circular economy.
In 2017 he established Madaster Foundation to ensure that there will be no more construction waste in the future.
Thomas Rau is annually ranked high in the Sustainable 100 of the daily newspaper Trouw. In 2013 he was named Architect of the Year and received the ARC13 Oeuvre Award from the trade magazine De Architect for his efforts over the past 20 years to promote and realize sustainable architecture across the board, as well as for 'his inspiring contribution to social and architectural agenda.'
He is the author of the book Material Matters (2016) together with Sabine Oberhuber . -
Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο συνδεόμαστε με την Κίνα και την Σανγκχάη και τον Αλέξανδρο Οικονόμου, Senior Architect στο γραφείο FTA. Ένα γραφείο με 150 άτομα προσωπικό.
O Aλέξανδρος μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα και τα Εξάρχεια μέχρι τα 19 όταν και έφυγε για να δουλέψει και να σπουδάσει στο Μιλάνο μέχρι τα 28 του.
Εκεί είχε την ευκαιρία να μάθει την γλώσσα και να σπουδάσει δίπλα από τους μεγάλους Μάστερς της σύνγχρονης αρχιτεκτονικής όπως ο CINO ZUCCI των CZA και να γνωρίσει από κοντά την ιστορία και το παρόν μιας από τις πρωτεύουσες του Design μέσα από το Salone del Mobile και την πλούσια αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά.Επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα για να κάνει το στρατιωτικό του και ξεκίνησε να εργάζεται σε διάφορα studios μεταξύ άλλων τα γραφεία KOIS ARCHITECTS, DECA, A&M ARCHITECTS...
Παρόλο που το επίπεδο της δουλειάς στην Ελλάδα, στην Αρχιτεκτονική, είναι πολύ υψηλό και στέκεται επάξια στην διεθνή σκηνή πάντα ήθελε να ζήσει στην Ασία για λίγο για να δεί και την μεγαλύτερη κλίμακα. Από όταν επισκέφθηκε το Τόκιο το 2010, μετά την πρώτη του αποφοίτηση αποφάσισε να πάει στην Κίνα καθώς ένοιωσε πώς θα μπορούσε να δεί διαφορετικές τυπολογίες και να συμμετάσχει σε ενδιαφέροντα projects στα οποία μόνο ένας μικρός αριθμός γραφείων μπορούσε να αγγίξει.
Προς το παρόν ζεί στην Shanghai τα τελευταία 4.5 χρόνια και δουλεύει για διάφορες εταιρίες. Ξεκίνησε από Junior και τώρα έχει θέση Senior Architect και Team Leader σε μερικά έργα σε ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον μέρος για να ζείς και να δουλεύεις όπου ο ρυθμός δεν έχει καμία σχέση με αυτόν της Ευρώπης. Έχει δουλέψει σε projects όπως ένας διαγωνισμός που σχεδίασε 30.000 μ2 για mixed use έργο σε μια πόλη λίγο έξω απο την Σανγκάη, την Jiaxing
Αυτή την στιγμή βρίσκεται σε ένα σταυροδρόμι προσωπικά καθώς σκέφτεται τα επόμενά του βήματα.

Aris Kafantaris, Chief Project Manager at Kengo Kuma and Associates Architects in Tokyo.
Aris Kafanantaris is an architect, graduate of the National Technical University of Athens School of Architecture and the University of Tokyo School of Architecture. Aris joined Kuma research lab in 2011 and then Kengo Kuma & Associates Tokyo in 2014. Kengo Kuma Associates Architects is an international award-winning practice based in Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai and Beijing, with more than 300 employees, established by architect Kengo Kuma in 1992. The office has designed a number of important commissions including the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Kengo Kuma was the keynote speaker of ECOWEEK in Rome in 2012 and a co-author of the first ECOWEEK book published in 2016.

Jan Jongert is an architect graduated from the Academy of Architecture in Rotterdam in 2003. He is the cofounder of Superuse Studios in Rotterdam a firm that designs interiors and buildings and develops strategies to facilitate the transition to a responsible society through circular practices at all levels. Jan develops tools and processes to realize tangible projects that empower local exchange and production, as an alternative to transporting and wasting resources, products and components around the globe. We will talk today about some of the key projects developed by Superuse, such as Villa Welpeloo (2009), Harvestmap (2012) Blue City (2016) and Pulsapp (2018).

Συνεχίζουμε με την θεματική ενότητα Business Of Architecture (ΒΟΑ) που εστιάζεται στην αθέατη πλευρά της αρχιτεκτονικής και στον ρόλο που διαδραματίζουν τα οικονομικά και το επιχειρείν σε αυτή.Ο σκοπός του σημερινού podcast είναι να κάνουμε μια εισαγωγή στο BOA να εξετάσουμε τις βασικές προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζει ένα αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο, ποιός είναι ο ρόλος των οικονομικών και να ρίξουμε φώς στο ποιά είναι η επόμενη ημέρα. Σε συνέχεια λοιπόν του πρώτου επεισοδίου ο σκοπός του σημερινού podcast είναι να απαντήσουμε σε κάποια απο τα βασικά ερωτήματα που τέθηκαν σχετικά με την ανάπτυξη ενός γραφείου, το σωστό μέγεθος ενός γραφείου, τι πρέπει να κάνει ένα τυπικό γραφείο στο οικονομικό κομμάτι.
Ονειρευόταν να γίνει αρχιτέκτονας, σπούδασε Μηχανολόγος Μηχανικός στο University of Manchester και έκανε ΜΒΑ στο Alba Graduate Business School. Τελικά η μοίρα τον έφερε εκεί που αρχικά ονειρευόταν, στην Αρχιτεκτονική.
Ο Δημήτρης Μανωλάς είναι ένας απο τους κορυφαίους ειδικούς σε management και financial controlling αρχιτεκτονικών γραφείων και διευθύνει στην Ελλάδα την εταιρεία Precise.
Mε έδρα το Ισραήλ, και γραφεία στην Νέα Υόρκη, Λονδίνο, Τελ Αβίβ, και πλεον και στην Αθήνα, η εταιρεία Precise με εξειδίκευση στον Αρχιτεκτονικό Κλάδο παρέχει in-house υπηρεσίες Management και Financial Control σε πάνω απο 450 Αρχιτεκτονικά γραφεία σε όλο τον κόσμο.
