  • In this episode, Daisy talks about why she doesn’t like skin care anymore despite the fact of being the CEO of BANISH. Seven years after starting BANISH, she still has a lot of mixed feelings with skincare.

While growing up, Daisy never thought that she was pretty but rather thinks that she is the ugly duckling in her group. For Daisy, acne became her scapegoat and it prevented her from doing what she wanted to do and from being who she truly is. And because of this, she thought of starting out her own skincare company hence the existence of BANISH.

Daisy shares why it’s a myth that the more products you try and use, the more that it will change your life.

How Daisy’s standard of beauty has changed from my 20’s to my 30’s. She used to always make sure that she will look perfect in the eyes of the people and after getting pregnant and being in her 30s, she now feels ok with how she looks.

  • “It all starts from within. We want to inspire our viewers to be better versions of themselves through our beauty and wellness content that resonates with their daily lives.”

Beauty Within looks into the world of skincare, beauty, and wellness. Their mission is to help their viewers become better versions of themselves through knowing about all the products out there and how our body functions uniquely.

Felicia has lived in a fast-paced city and always pushing her limit to grow. Starting the Beauty Within channel has been one of her most life-changing experiences.

It started as Asian Beauty Secrets and was rebranded to Beauty Within 2 years ago. Innovations are greatly considered because they know that the space of YouTube and Beauty is changing rapidly. They also wanted to reach larger markets and produce more relatable content.

Beauty Within is now more focused on skincare and lifestyle mindset as a holistic way of living. The competition will always be there, but Felicia is assured that Beauty Within’s heart is in each piece of content. Obstacles come and go, which is inevitable in any industry.

She emphasized that materialistic purpose is never victorious to any industry. A grounded purpose can make a difference. They aim to establish Beauty Within as a symbol of self-identity by being an avenue to finding what we are made of. Connecting the inner and outer worlds.

Although viewers don’t see it, there is a lot of complicated work behind the scenes. She recognizes the important role of a team’s unified effort in achieving the goals.

We can get a hold of our beauty and flaws, and piece them together to make us whole. And it’s that wholeness comes from embracing all of who we are. Authenticity is huge! This is where inner growth stems from.

  • Are you ready to try fillers? Not only are acne scars difficult to treat
they can also be a distressing reminder of the skin troubles of the past, often being as emotionally painful as the breakouts themselves.

Daisy talks about her personal experience trying fillers for her acne scars. Unfortunately, the treatment did not work on her. She actually regrets trying it. Six months later when she realized that results are not getting better for her.

Does it really work to treat acne scars? Dermal fillers are one of the options to treat and potentially get rid of certain types of acne scars, being particularly effective for rolling scars and some less defined boxcar scars. But like any other treatment, results vary from skin to skin.

Daisy does not wanna get accustomed to doing this. Fillers may work if your acne scars are larger, where it doesn't matter where the filler moves about if the scar is so large.

Before good skin treatment can be attempted, it is important to have a clear understanding of how the skin operates. Keeping good habits in addition to right skin treatment will help the skin age gracefully and beautifully.

  • “First and foremost, there is no ABSOLUTE rule for what to CUT OUT during pregnancy. It all depends on how conservative you want to be.”

Now that the cat’s officially out of the bag, Daisy shares her challenging stories from the first trimester!

Harmful exposures during the first trimester have the biggest risk of causing birth defects. This is because many important developmental changes take place during this time. The major structures of the body form in the first trimester.

Cardboard in the uterus!?!? Can you imagine how it feels like? That is how Daisy can describe after knowing that she is pregnant. Along with this are challenges that first-time pregnancy brings. There are physical and mental agonies. She has so much respect for the mothers out there for braving the challenges of pregnancy!

The baby will change a lot during the first trimester, rapidly developing from the first hints of life into a peach-sized fetus. While life inside her womb is growing, Daisy is experiencing physical and emotional disturbances. Constant nausea, dizziness, and feeling like her stomach were on fire. Everything tasting like metal. What?!?! Her migraines and being super hot with diarrhea and cold sores, so many on her list to mention.

All-day sickness! Daisy believes that it is truly a miracle that she is able to keep everything going work-wise and even personally.

She has NO IDEA how BAD it was going to be. She always sees photos of cute bumps and women glowing. “I’m so excited about this second trimester. This pregnancy has made me realize that every great life experience has so many ups and downs. And in the end, it is ALL worth it.” It’s so surreal to think about that in a few months from now, Daisy will have the little love of her life.

  • “As long as you’re authentic to yourself and express your truth; blessings will come in the most unexpected ways”

Being a ‘control freak’ has helped me in my career and business success. I’ve learned hard work, persistence, and grit has helped me overcome so many obstacles in business. However, in more personal affairs, my ‘control freak’ nature isn’t as conducive.

What I’ve learned through this journey: there are many things you cannot control in life. Even in personal relationships, you cannot control someone else. Even the success of a business has an element of luck to it. When growing a human being or a family, you only have so much control. What is most important is to be your authentic self and the right people and blessings will come in their time.

Throughout my pregnancy, I’ve learned to enjoy the journey instead of trying to ‘control it’. Just like my first baby, Banish; my second baby also happened by happenstance. But I don’t believe either was an ‘accident’; I was living in my truth and in that, life gives you so many unexpected blessings.

I really wanted to be a mom but wasn’t sure when the ‘right time’ would be. Should she wait until she is more ‘settled’? But with waiting too long, there are unexpected consequences and you cannot race biology.

Getting pregnant is something that we do not have control over. In your early days, you are taught you should do everything to avoid getting pregnant. Then it’s like a switch happens at 30, and that’s all people are trying to do.

I have always been an advocate of authenticity. I am never afraid to share my vulnerabilities. From how I started Banish, I did it by speaking my truths from fears, insecurities, influence, and focus. Even my affirmations and problem-solving are highlighted.

After YEARS of trying to lose weight on my belly (and believe me, it seemed impossible), I finally figured out how to get that coveted ab crack! Counting calories/going vegan/keto did not work for me, but these two secrets did!

In this episode Daisy shares all about:

12:15 - Always drink a lot of water

  • “We often think 'Is acne normal?' as we grow up with acne. How do you talk to your kids about acne? Acne is so much more than just surface-level, it can affect one's self-confidence, self-worth and a person's day to day activity can be highly affected.”

As someone who has dealt with acne almost all her life, Daisy wanted to share some tips on how you can start a conversation with your children about acne and how to normalize acne.

In this episode Daisy shares about:

What is acne, what really causes acneWhat’s the importance of skin hygiene in terms of overall healthHow to address acne when a child starts to breakout. How to talk to a child about skin positivity, how to talk to people about acne.

    Show notes:

2:15 - Acne and its causes. Addressing the myths about acne like does chocolate cause acne, does not washing your face cause acne.

3:55 - Hygiene is important because it is part of being healthy, but focus on the health part instead of the beauty part of it.

5:15 - When a child starts to breakout. It is important not to dictate a child’s appearance and self-worth. The personal experience felt a lot of parental pressure from acne, too much-unsolicited advice can make it seem like a big problem in the child’s eyes.

6:10 - Skin positivity is accepting that your skin is a part of who you are. Perfection is a made-up thing made by society. Everyone’s skin is different.

10:15 - Telling your child that acne has nothing to do with someone’s self-worth.

Discussing acne with your kids isn’t always easy. We want to change our children’s thoughts about how they feel about themselves or how they view themselves in the world.

People who tell them differently is setting artificial standards. Acne being a skin issue is a neutral thing. Society labels it as negative. Don’t make acne a negative thing. There is skin positivity which is really powerful.
