  • Welcome to the 100th episode of Beauty is a Bitch!  It would seem dementia is on the rise, and that is a scary realization. The truth is, women have a greater risk of developing dementia during their lifetime. In fact, around twice as many women have Alzheimer's disease – the most common type of dementia – compared to men. The main reason for this greater risk is because women live longer than men, and old age is the biggest risk factor for this disease. However, other factors also play a role.

Some of these risks can be mitigated, which begs the question, "What can we do for better brain health?"

Health coach Susan Saunders, specializes in helping women over 50 reduce dementia risk and optimize brain health through science-backed habits. She is the author of three books on healthy aging and longevity, with her most recent being The Power Decade: How to Thrive After Menopause.

Susan holds a high-level qualification as a dementia prevention coach under the guidance of neuroscientist Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer's. She was among the first in the UK to qualify as a coach in his program. Susan has successfully coached hundreds of people globally, helping them build habits scientifically proven to reduce dementia risk.

Please join Lauren and Susan as they dig deep into: the single most important thing we can do to look after our brains as we age; the six pillars of better brain health; why Susan started on this journey to better brain health; why we need to emphasize healthy habits to reduce our dementia risk; why more women than men get dementia; what happens to our brains during menopause; and what a coaching session looks like.

  • According to the latest research, life expectancy has risen dramatically, increasing 26 years since the mid-20th century. However our healthspan (healthy years free of disease) has not followed suit. There is a significant gap between our lifespan and healthspan driven by the pandemic of chronic diseases afflicting a growing aging population.

The current overburdened and reactive health care system is compounding this lag in quality of life, where health risks linger for years and are detected late. The age-old quest for healthy longevity begins with predictive healthcare. And while AI may seem a bit scary to us GenXers, its potential could prove very helpful when it comes to analyzing biomarkers on healthspan and longevity.

Jim Kean CEO of Molecular You, is a pioneering senior tech executive with a focus on innovative, disruptive, consumer-oriented health and wellness digital experiences. He founded WellnessFx and played a significant role in online health communities as President of Sapient Health Network, which later merged with WebMD.

Join Lauren and Jim as they examine: how we can feel more at ease with AI; how AI can help with our healthcare; how IA is it being used right now; how AI can help bridge the gap between healthspan and longevity; how AI’s role is shifting from reactive healthcare to proactive healthcare; how Molecular You assess an individual's distinct blood profile to anticipate potential health risks and catch chronic diseases early; how blood test results should be used; success stories using AI in healthcare and so much more.

  • Skin cycling? What is that? And is it really important as we age? In a nutshell, skin cycling is taking a cyclical approach to your facial skincare routine by using specific products on different days to regenerate the skin and improves skin quality. It's actually not that difficult but needs some explaining. And once you understand it, you will want to approach your skincare this way.

  • Did you know that girls as young as 10 are walking into Sephora and buying anti-aging skincare products that are meant for our skin? "Why?" you might ask. Because they have seen their peers unboxing and using them on TikTok. So now it's trendy to buy Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops with peptides for $34 or Dior Lip Glow Oil for $40 or even Summer Fridays Midnight Ritual Retinol Renewal Serum for $69! Yes, tweens are putting anti-aging retinols and Vitamin C's and other acids on their face because it's trendy and aspirational, but it's also hurting their skin.

Why are we as middle aged women told to embrace aging and yet teens fear it? How did we get here?

Elena Frankel and Carolyn Barber are the founders of Flyte.70, a beauty brand that focuses on grown-up skin. They believe life is about embracing, not fighting, change and that we are as youthful as we feel...not by the numbers on our birthday cake. They understand that no matter how many layers of full-coverage concealer or contour sticks we apply, we won’t magically transform into our 20-year-old selves and that we need to be okay with that.

Join Lauren, Elena and Carolyn as they discuss: what lead to this irrational fear of aging; if TikTok or parents are driving the bus; who is paying for this expensive skincare and why; how stores might deal with this (if they can) and calm the dopamine needs of our tweens and teens; how we can talk some sense into teenage girls to not buy into the hype; how teens are ruining their skin; ingredients teens needs to stay away from, and so much more.

  • Can you suddenly develop food allergies in midlife? You bet! As we age, our immune system may weaken naturally (not to mention our out-of-whack hormones) which may be why you're suddenly struggling with foods you were always able to eat before. But maybe what you are experiencing is actually a food intolerance and not a food allergy. It can be difficult to differentiate between the two. And we need to, because in order to feel our best, it’s important to know which foods to avoid.

Dr. Gill Hart is a PhD Biochemist and the Scientific Director at YorkTest Laboratories. Her passion for science and helping people improve their health has guided her entire career. From managing a hospital hormone testing lab to developing unique "at home" fertility tests for men and women. Since 2005 she has been with YorkTest where her food sensitivity testing came to be. She says seeing the difference that it makes to everyday lives is the pinnacle of her career.

YorkTest Laboratories Inc pioneered the first IgG based food sensitivity in the 90's, and can boast that as of today, they have tested over half a million people.

  • If you want to recapture that fresh-faced youthful, radiant glow, love just may be the drug you're looking for. Yes, popular skincare ingredients like Bakuchiol, squalane, green tea, vitamin C, etc. are helping aging skin, but board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Nicole Hayre is taking a different approach. She uncovered a new patent-pending ingredient that she believes is going to be a game-changer in the skincare industry!

She discovered that high levels of oxytocin (aka the “love hormone”) in the body, has positive effects on the skin at the cellular level, resulting in glowing, youthful healthy skin. She found that the higher the oxytocin level was in someone's skin, the better they looked for their age. This discovery was so revolutionary that she was asked to speak at the United Nations on her findings. Now she has a range of skincare products called Cutocin which are formulated with a patent-pending ingredient that mimics the effects on of oxytocin in the skin resulting in a healthier, younger-looking appearance.

Join Lauren and Dr. Hayre as they discuss: Dr. Hayre's background in skincare; what led her to research the effect oxytocin has on the skin; her findings through this research; how to increase our oxytocin levels even if we are not "in love"; her discovery of the patent-pending Sheperd's Purse and how she integrated it into her skincare line Cutocin; what it was like creating a skincare line; what's next for her brand; the skincare concerns that she is seeing most from her patients; and what services they are asking for most.
