  • It's Thursday afternoon, I'm late again with the show, but your favourite post is finally here after making you wait a day longer than usual. Are you excited? Of course you are.

Kicking off this week's podcast, I started with a quick admission of how excited I am that hockey is returning on Sunday, even though I already know how much I will hate watching eight pre-season games. Given that the players we actually want to watch won't be playing most of the time, it's tough to get excited about what amounts to meaningless games that are locked behind a paywall.

Turning the podcast toward training camp, I walked through the news from the first two days of on-ice sessions. From Evander Kane's need for surgery to Darnell Nurse starting off with light duties to rumours that the Oilers are interested in Rasmus Ristolainen, this season is already getting spicy, and we've barely even gotten started. The funny part about the situation is that there's already a lot going on, and that doesn't even touch on the pair of PTOs the Oilers signed this past week.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and a pair of guest RSBs before diving into this week's lot of voicemails. Even though this week's VM segment was one of the shorter ones we've had in a while, you fantastic folks always bring the heat when it comes to dropping your takes. More importantly, having your feedback on the show is one of the most important parts of BLTN and I'm always grateful that you take the time to chime in. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • It's Thursday afternoon, and that means your favourite post is finally here after making you wait a day longer than usual. Are you excited? Of course you are.

I started this week's podcast with a quick run through of our Oilersnation annual planning meetings that I just got home from, which was also the reason why the show was late by a day. Seeing as this was the third year of these annual sessions, it's interesting to see how much the company has grown over the last 36 months and how we're not anywhere close to being done. I also decided this past week that I'm a Vikings fan now, so I walked through that decision and admitted that stretching it out as long as I did was more annoying than it was helpful.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the big news that came down this week was that both Darnell Nurse and Evander Kane are expected to miss the start of training camp due to injuries. Even though we all knew that Kane is banged up, hearing Nurse will be out for a while was certainly a surprise. All of a sudden, the Travis Dermott PTO started to make a little more sense from a depth perspective, no? On a more positive note, Leon Draisaitl is not exactly being shy about his want for Connor McDavid to sign an extension with the Oilers next summer, and hearing those two talk about the idea makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and a pair of guest RSBs before diving into this week's lot of voicemails. • You fantastic folks had so much to say this week that the only option I had was to record another voicemail episode to get everyoneโ€™s takes in. Whether we were talking about the Draisaitl extension, hating wasps, and everything in between, weโ€™re getting to a point when the voicemails almost need their own episode every week. Most importantly, this is my third episode of BLTN in the last three days, so donโ€™t ever say I donโ€™t do anything for you.

  • It's Wednesday afternoon, and that means your favourite post is set and ready to massage your mind as you work your way through the back half of the week. Are you excited? Of course you are.

I started this week's podcast with a quick recap from Friday's Oilersnation Open and how this year's golf tournament was one of the greatest we've ever had. From the volunteers to the golfers to the fantastic shape the Millwoods Golf Course was in for our big day, everything about this year's tourney was fantastic. Not only did we raise a pile of money for Gregor's Grads, but we also had a fantastic day together out on the course, and I already cannot wait for next year's tournament.

Turning the podcast back to hockey, I started the news with a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau. Even though he was an opponent throughout his career, Thursday night's news was heartbreaking in every possible way. That's why I wanted to spend a few minutes talking about one of the league's best players and how going up against him as often as the Oilers did made for a fantastic rivalry. Even days later, I still can't believe it.

Changing gears, the Oilers signed Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year, $112 million contract extension on Tuesday, the news we've been waiting for basically all summer. As an Oilers fan my entire life, I had gotten used to our best players leaving when it came time to sign big deals, but yesterday's news basically erased all those memories from my early fandom. Not only did the Oilers retain one of the best players in the NHL, but this extension basically ensured that Draisaitl will be an Oiler for life, which is something that the older fans haven't experienced before.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and a pair of guest RSBs before setting the table for tomorrow's voicemail episode of the podcast. As much as I thought I would handle the voicemail in today's episode, seeing all of the messages you amazing people dropped over the last seven days meant that a bonus episode was the only option. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • Weโ€™ve been waiting all summer for Leon Draisaitl to get his name on the dotted line for a new contract, and on Tuesday morning, we finally got the news. On Tuesday morning, the Oilers announced that their German star had signed an eight-year contract extension that carries a $14 million AAV. Whatever happened to the rumours that Leon wanted to sign in Boston? Remember those? Classic.

  • Your Wednesday wouldn't be the same without a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never to wrap up the day and help guide you through what's left of the week. On today's podcast, I'm talking about Oilers rumours, PTO targets, betting futures, reality dating shows, and a whole lot more.

I kicked off this week's podcast with yet another conversation about reality dating shows. Not only do I love them, but I finally got through the newest season of Love Island USA, and I could not be happier about it finally coming to a close. Frankly, the seasons of that show are way too long, and it was standing in the way of watching a much better trash fire in Too Hot to Handle.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, it seems like the news du jour after the Holloway/Broberg offer sheets is what the Oilers can do with their newfound cap flexibility. According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Oilers are looking around the league for defensive upgrades, including the idea of bringing back a couple of old friends for another tour of duty. Yet, given the current depth chart, all of the options the Oilers seem to be looking at are RHD, which has plenty of us wondering if that's the right approach.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk and an RSB about moving companies before working through another round of voicemails that were all over the map. The good news is that today's voicemails were a mixed bag of topics, which is always fun from my side of the microphone, and you fantastic folks did not disappoint. • I'm back from vacation, and the Oilers spent the week wheeling and dealing, so I had plenty to talk about in this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.

I started this week's podcast with a quick recap of my vacation to Toronto. It was incredibly relaxing until I ran into some travel delays. From seeing blink-182 again to Niagara Falls to driving around the city, I got up to a lot despite not being there for very long. That said, I think a week in the 6ix is my absolute limit, and I think it's important to add that it's incredibly nice to be back in Edmonton. Just me? Possibly.

Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I started the news with a look at the Broberg/Holloway offer sheet situation that reached its conclusion yesterday morning. After a week of waiting, speculation, and a handful of moves by the team, the Oilers opted not to match the Blues' offers on their young players, and I wanted to talk about why they chose to let both guys walk. I also looked at the other trades that happened this past week, including the Cody Ceci deal everyone's been waiting years to see and the trade to bring in Vasily Podkolzin from Vancouver. Despite being in August, this last week was a spicy one for the Oilers.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk, an RSB about airline travel, and worked through another round of voicemails that were all over the map yet again. The good news is that today's voicemails were a mixed bag of topics, which is always fun from my side of the microphone. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • I'm supposed to be on vacation this week, but the St. Louis Blues came along and ruined things before I was even able to have a coffee this morning. *spits*

Kicking off this week's podcast, I started the show with a quick recap of what my vacation plans were supposed to be and how this morning's news really threw a wrench into my Tuesday plans. The good news is that I'm always down to yell about the Oilers, and since it's been forever since we've gotten any news, why not poke my head out of my pillow fort to talk about Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg?

One thing I know for sure is that these offer sheets were the last thing the Oilers needed right now, which is why the Blues actually pulling the trigger on them is all the more annoying. Even though St. Louis didn't do anything wrong, it almost seemed like tendering offer sheets was a no-no on the GM's good guy guide to the galaxy, making today's news all the more surprising. Of course, it also didn't help to read how other fanbases are basically dancing in the street because someone is trying to screw Edmonton over. Hate us 'cause they ain't us? Possibly.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk, a guest RSB, and another round of voicemails that were all over the map again, especially with where we're at in the off-season news cycle. The good news is that today's voicemails were a wild mixed bag of topics, which is always fun from my side of the microphone. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • Just when I was enjoying the McWedding photo dump from Vogue, the St. Louis Blues had to come and drop a turd in the punchbowl with their duelling offersheets on Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Instead of going back to bed as I should have, I decided to fire up the Rodecaster and knock out a short emergency episode of the podcast to talk about what's happened, what the Oilers' options are, and what I think they'll do over the next handful of days.

  • Your workweek is 60% done (probably), and that means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is edited, ready, and here to help you close in on the weekend.

I started off this week's episode of BLTN with a random array of topics, which is par for the course in the middle of August. That said, these slow weeks do give me plenty of time to ramble about my love for terrible reality TV shows, meaningless summer observations, and whatever else is going on in my life. This past weekend, as an example, I spent a couple of days out in Sylvan Lake and a whole lot has changed since the last time I was out that way.

Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I started off the news with a quick rundown of the content we're writing at Oilersnation.com and how it always impresses me the way we're able to keep things going without having much actual news to talk about. That said, finding things to write and talk about does get significantly more difficult at this point of the off-season. On the other hand, I will never tire of off-season Kool-Aid season even if that means spending weeks on end talking about Draisaitl's new contract.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with an RSB about the leaves changing colour already, even though I'm absolutely not ready for winter to roll back around. I then wrapped up the podcast with another round of voicemails that were all over the map again, especially with the news cycle being as slow as it is right now. The good news is that slow news weeks mean the voicemails get a whole lot weirder, which is always fun from my side of the microphone. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • The best part of Wednesday is checking your favourite podcast app and seeing a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never waiting for you. The good news is that I'm back with a fresh podcast to massage your eardrums and give you a few laughs along the way.

I started off this week's podcast with a dose of my usual nonsense. From getting into the Olympics to the stress of picking an NFL team to back, the best part of the off-season is filling my day with nonsense and shenanigans. If there's one thing I love more than anything, it's wasting everyone's time with nonsense and tomfoolery, and that's basically what the first 10 minutes of today's show were.

Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I had to start with the Royal Wedding from this past weekend and how we still haven't seen much of anything in terms of news or pictures. One can assume they probably sold the rights to take photos to some magazine or something, but you'd have to imagine how many folks are patiently waiting for a glimpse into the McDavid wedding. Speaking of waiting, I then offered my take on the Leon Draisaitl contract extension and how it doesn't really matter when he signs the thing provided that it gets done.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with an RSB about robocalls and how annoying they are, given that there are seemingly endless iterations rolling in on a daily basis.

  • The best part of your Wednesday is when you check your favourite podcast app and see a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never waiting for you. Thankfully, we've reached that special moment of the week once again.

Here I thought today's episode of Better Lait Than Never was going to be ripe with shenanigans and talk of which NFL team I should hitch my wagon to for next season, but the Oilers came out with some big news today that dramatically changed the tone of my show. The Oilers announced via their social media channels that the team has hired Stan Bowman as the new general manager this morning, and I legitimately thought Oilers Twitter was about to explode.

Getting into the shenanigans I had initially planned, I played the audio from Woz's trip to the dollar store to buy snacks for the staff at Nation HQ, and the results were hilarious. Not only did Woz accept the $20 snack challenge like a champ, but I actually thought he did a great job with it despite thinking straight saltines are a wonderful snack. Needless to say, sending Woz to the dollar store taught us a lot about how he operates, and it was a fascinating look inside his mind.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with a handful of guest RSBs about Stan Bowman and why the Oilers felt the need to go this route, given that there were likely other candidates that could have fit the bill. As you'll hear, people wanted their opinions on the subject to be heard, and I was happy to give them the platform to do so. I then wrapped up the podcast with another reminder that I'll be doing a voicemail episode of the podcast tomorrow since so many people had left messages over the last few days. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • There's nothing quite like a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never to cap off your Wednesday afternoon and work your way through the back half of the week. On this week's podcast, I'm talking about the Oilers' GM search, new music, reality TV, and a whole lot of nonsense.

I started this week's podcast with a quick roundup of all things reality TV, new music, and why I love taking time in the off-season to shut my brain off and watch these reality show train wrecks. As the summer of Baggedmilk continues, a big part of it is taking time to recharge the batteries after what was an intense season covering the Oilers, and I couldn't think of a better way than watching 20-somethings fumble their way through reality TV dating concepts.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, there's not a lot of news happening right now, but that didn't stop not-a-GM-but-totally-a-GM Jeff Jackson from making another trade. This time, he sent struggling prospect Xavier Bourgault to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Roby Jarventie, a rugged Finn who missed a big chunk of last season with a knee injury. I also walked through a bunch of quotes that came out of the annual Zach Hyman Golf Tournament this week, including Connor McDavid's thoughts on how the Oilers' offseason has looked so far.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with an RSB about grocery store etiquette and another round of voicemails ranging from summer in Edmonton, some light Oilers talk, a prank attempt, and everything in between. Once again, this podcast really is one of my favourite parts of the week, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

  • There's no better way to spend a Wednesday night than with a cold beer and a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never, amirite? This week, I talked about the Edmonton heat wave, brought you up to date on all of the Oilers news, and took your voicemails to work through whatever is on your mind.

Kicking off this week's podcast, I got started with a little bit of music talk. Not only did I watch and love the new Nickelback documentary that's up on Netflix, but I also premiered a brand new BLTN original song that made me laugh out loud. I always get excited any time new music comes into the podcast, and this week's tune was no exception. Simply amazing.

Turning the show back to the Oilers, I walked through the little bits of news that have come out over the last week, including Matt Savoie appearing at development camp, Leon Draisaitl's agent feeling confident a deal will get done, and Raphael Lavoie signing a fresh contract to stay in Edmonton. At this time of the year, there's never much going on, but that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty to talk about when it comes to the Oilers.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with a pair of guest RSBs and capped off the pod with another round of voicemails ranging from summer in Edmonton, Oilers talk, Jeff Jackson, and everything in between. Once again, this podcast really is one of my favourite parts of the week, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. • The Edmonton Oilers made a big trade today, sending Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Matthew Savoie. In case you didn't know, Matthew Savoie was the Sabres' 9th overall pick in 2022 and is widely regarded as one of the league's best prospects, which makes this deal all the more fascinating.

As I like to do when any big Oilers news comes down the pipe, I jumped in the studio for a quick 15-minute reaction episode to the trade and offered a passionate plea to Jeff Jackson to remain on as the team's GM. Given the way this dude has handled his business over the last week or so, it's almost impossible to expect any more from Jackson, and I wonder if all of this early success is changing his mind at all about whether or not he wants to remain as Edmonton's general manager.

Either way, this was a significant trade for the Oilers after what I'd consider to be one of their best free agency days ever, and I was too excited not to talk about it.

  • I'm still trying to wrap my head around how much the Oilers got done in free agency, and it has me excited to see what else is yet to come. Either way, I don't know that I've seen Oilers social media as united as it's been over the last few days, and that positivity is incredibly nice to see only a week after the team fell short in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

I started off this week's Better Late Than Never by confessing how relieved I am that the NHL season is done and that there's finally some time to recharge. That's not to say that I'm complaining about the Oilers' Cup run โ€” far from it โ€” just that it was a lot of punishment on the body. Without knowing for sure, I'd guess that I probably put on 15-20 pounds over the last couple of months, and now the goal will be to see how quickly I can shed the weight.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, how could I not start with a tribute to Jeff Jackson? Even though Jackson told everyone he is not interested in being Edmonton's general manager long-term, the guy has done a fantastic job in the role so far. Given everything he was able to accomplish on the first day of NHL free agency, many Oilers fans are wondering what it will take for Jackson to remove the interim tag off his title and keep doing what he's been doing. Of course, it's easy to say that when we have no idea

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with a guest RSB about the Oilers being tied to Stan Bowman and capped off the pod with another round of voicemails ranging from praising Jeff Jackson's free agency and everything in between. Once again, this podcast really is one of my favourite parts of the week, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. • The Edmonton Oilers had a surprisingly big day in free agency despite not having a whole lot of cap space to spend, and that meant a quick 15-minute reaction episode of Better Lait Than Never to break it all down.

Whether we're talking about Viktor Arvidsson coming over from the Los Angeles Kings, Jeff Skinner signing on from the Sabres after getting bought out, Mattias Janmark and Connor Brown coming back, or any of the depth moves Jeff Jackson made, the Oilers were significantly busier than any of us expected them to be. Not only did they address their top six forwards in a very real way, but they also added depth to the organization without having to break the bank. That leads me to believe that this team is โ€” for the first time I can remember โ€” a true destination for NHL free agents.

Remember when the Oilers had to give Eric Belanger an extra year because he believed in the team? Remember when Ben Eager and Darcy Hordichuk were considered to be big gets for the team? Those days seem like forever ago, don't they?

  • The Oilers' playoff run lasted 63, and it was arguably the most fun I've ever had in a two-month stretch. Even though it sucks to be so close and still fall short, it's also hard not to feel proud about the way the Oilers finished.

I start this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never with a quick recap of my trip to Florida for Game 7. Outside of the result, those were arguably two of the most fun days I've ever had. From the chartered flight down to the mayhem at the Elbo Room on Sunday night, the people we met along the way made the trip worth it even though we flew across the continent for only 36 hours. As always, Oilers fans travel incredibly well, and it was so much fun to see as many of us down there as there were.

Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the team had their end-of-season interviews today, and it was interesting to hear everyone speak about what that run meant to them. Obviously, we all wanted to hear Leon Draisaitl say that he was going to sign an extension ASAP, but it wasn't exactly surprising to hear him say that he needed some time to process what just happened, even though he admittedly loves playing here.

It was also fascinating to hear from the likes of Warren Foegele, Connor Brown, and Mattias Janmark, three guys who weren't exactly shy about admitting they wanted to come back. Of course, the NHL is a business at the end of the day, and in the salary cap days, it will be interesting to see how the team navigates their pending UFAs. We also heard a report from TSN's Darren Dreger which stated that Ken Holland will not be back with the organization next year despite initially hearing that he had a role offered to him to stay.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with a guest RSB about the Oilers bandwagon and capped off the pod with another round of voicemails ranging from Stanley Cup woes to positive messages and everything in between. Once again, this podcast really is one of my favourite parts of the week, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving. • The Oilers had their backs against the wall after falling behind 3-0 to the Florida Panthers, but the vibes have changed significantly after the boys won their last two games to push the series to Game 6 at Rogers Place. Needless to say, this past week has been emotional.

I started out this week's podcast with what was basically a love letter to Edmonton after this city gave us some of the best times of my life over the last handful of days. There's nothing quite like being here when the Oilers are in a playoff push, and that feeling gets cranked up by a factor of 100 in the Stanley Cup Final. Even though everyone was feeling down when the Oilers fell behind by three games, you'd have thought we were up by three with the way everyone parties on Saturday night.

Looking back at Tuesday's Game 5, the Oilers needed to go into Florida and get the job done in a bar where they had yet to win. Led by their captain, the boys did exactly that with what was an imperfect yet incredibly clutch 5-3 win. Now the series turns back to Rogers Place where I expect the crowd to quite possibly blow the roof off. If people thought the crowd was nuts for Game 4, I can only imagine the chaos that is about to happen only a couple of days from now.

Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with an RSB about Oilers haters eating crow and capped off the pod with another round of voicemails ranging from Stanley Cup woes to positive messages and everything in between. Once again, this podcast really is one of my favourite parts of the week, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keeps moving.
