In this brief return episode tubist Jonathan Gawn and euphonium player and improviser (and previous pod guest!) Martin Lee Thomson tell us about their involvement with the Lower Brass Days in partnership with St Mary's Music School.
More event info below:
There will be a series of free Lower Brass events to celebrate the trombone, euphonium, tuba, tenor horn, and baritone horn, raising awareness of these instruments and the possible pathways for those wishing to take up an instrument of this type.
St Mary's Music school, in partnership with leading brass players and industry specialists, have created two separate events (the first in Edinburgh on 24 February and the second in Elgin on 25 February 2024) to which players are welcome to participate and observe. There is group activity, warm ups, ensembles, and concerts and individuals can sign up to take part in a masterclass, whether a beginner or an advanced player. Parents and schools are invited to come along and observe and try their hand at any of the featured instruments generously supplied by Buffet Crampon.
There should be something for everyone from the youngest player at the beginning of their journey to the seasoned professional with a chance to expand on their community building and exchange as part of their continuous professional development.

It's not a midweek extra episode, I'm afraid, folks.
As you'll hear, I've loved every single second of running Bold as Brass Podcast. I've made great friends, professional connections, and kept myself busy when things were tough (looking at you, Covid).
Running it as a one-person operation around work and trying to exist as a human is becoming too difficult and, after some painstaking consideration, it's time to pause production.
I'm not sure it'll be forever. Heck, I'm not sure I want it to be forever. But it's got to be for now.
All content will stay live. Please continue to share and listen back; there are some gems in there (from guests, not me).
Thanks for the support. Bold as Brass, out (for now). Melissa x

As most of you know, Bold as Brass Podcast was started in the lockdown of 2020 as a way to keep our host, Melissa, busy whilst a lot of her work was on pause.
We've had an incredible 2.5 years since then releasing episodes at least weekly, hosting panels, live interviews, travelling with the show to conferences, and making new contacts and friends worldwide.
The world is rapidly returning to normal and scheduling interviews is getting harder and Melissa's time is fuller and she needs to focus on her work for now.
It's definitely not goodbye forever - we just need a few months off to recalibrate, figure out a way to fit recordings and editing in, and maybe come back on a scaled back release schedule.
Keep up to date on our socials, we're "Bold as Brass Podcast" pretty much everywhere and our website is boldasbrasspodcast.com
