  • Even once we get healthy in our relationship with alcohol, there’s often more work to do on the unhealed wounds we have (that maybe either came about with alcohol or they were something you used alcohol to try and avoid). Whatever the case, it’s important to be honest with yourself about your own level of need for deeper work. In this episode, Jennyfer does an amazing job of taking something as abstract as complex trauma and sharing it in a way that will help you decide whether or not there’s deeper work to be done for yourself.

    I'm a LPC in private practice in Texas, specializing in trauma but more specifically complex trauma. I work a lot with childhood sexual abuse and perinatal trauma and loss. I am certified in brainspotting and hope to begin working towards becoming a consultant in the next year or two. I've also completed a 6 month intensive with Deb Dana in Applied Polyvagal Theory and also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional through the Trauma International Institute.

    I am also opening a trauma center (Selah Trauma Counseling Center) at the beginning of 2023 in Wichita Falls with the aim to become an all encompassing center for trauma services.

  • Getting right with alcohol is only the first step to truly fulfilling your purpose. Alcohol holds you back, but what happens AFTER? This week I got to reconnect with Jenn Linck after one year and we chat about life as an Optimized AFer.

    Jenn Linck is a personal trainer, healthy habit and accountability coach, a Chief Warrant Officer Three in the US Army Reserves, a champion collegiate rower, a former bodybuilder, mom, a wife, and a woman in recovery...but that’s not the important part. The important part is that she perseveres through life’s curveballs, keeps going despite challenges, and never gives up.

    Her passion for training and coaching is in her blood. When she was fourteen, her late father (who was a body-building competitor in the eighties) took her to the gym and taught her how to use every single piece of equipment. It’s no surprise then, that when it came time to get my National Association of Sports Medicine certification, she studied for just two weeks and passed. She is also part of the Army’s Master Fitness Trainer program, which helps Soldiers prepare for physical fitness tests.

    Through decades of trial and error, she learned that how fitness feels is more important than how it looks. On January 5, 2020, after nearly 20 years of trying to moderate my drinking, she surrendered to the truth that the life she wanted to create could no longer include alcohol.

    Her mission is very simple: Build a community of people who want to feel awesome from the inside out, by providing a non-alcoholic fitness option where everyone (except alcohol and diet culture) is invited. At ConFITence, alcohol is not a reward and exercise is not a punishment.

  • Being an Optimized AFer doesn’t mean never having moments of struggle. It means that you have the capacity to recognize struggles as symptoms of something that needs your attention. And sometimes those symptoms are showing you places where something is blocking you from full optimization (and if you’re an over-thinker, you could really get into the weeds as to whether or not you're truly optimized if you still have a block…..but Optimization isn’t a pinnacle we reach, and then light up our cigars and sit back and watch the sunset. It’s a place we aim to be as often as we are able, and then we recognize when we move away from it, but also have the tools and self-knowledge to work our way back. Deborah Antinori has spent years studying the brain, especially from the perspective of why and how and where Brainspotting is working. In this interview, she shares her wealth of knowledge while also making something so seemingly invisible into something super relatable.

    Deb Antinori, MA, LPC, FT, RDT, NCC is a Brainspotting Trainer. Having met Dr. David Grand as a facilitator in her EMDR training, she has been privileged to be involved with Brainspotting Therapy since its inception and has been a member of his NY supervision group for many years. She is thirty years in private practice.

    Deb recently presented two sessions at the International BSP Conference on Brain Basics, and with Santiago Brand on Psychophysiological Components of the Trauma Response. In 2018, she authored a chapter on grief in The Power of Brainspotting: An International Anthology. Deb has two opportunities to study the brain with her, one is a specialty training titled Brain Science to Inform Your BSP Practice, and the second is her Brain Study Group.     Having been an actress originally, Deborah received her Masters Degree from NYU's Drama Therapy department, She is a Registered Drama Therapist with the National Association for Drama Therapy and holds a Fellowship in Thanatology from the Association for Death Education and Counseling

    Deborah is currently working on a PhD from the International University for Graduate Studies, mentored by Dr. Damir delMonte. She is married to her attorney husband, Paul Antinori, for forty years.
