  • Every year Eli races off to Florida to spend time with his family, but he always makes sure he brings back something for the show. This week on CheapShow, Eli has a big bag of bounty filled to the brim with all kinds of snacks, treats and drinks. Maybe too many. It’s a food stuffed episode of CheapShow that has the cheap chaps tackle Buffalo Cheetos, Doritos Dinamita Sticks, Hot Nuts and (sadly for Paul) potted meat. Horrible potted meat. Hopefully the soft drink segment of the podcast will wash away any unpleasantness, as there are three fun sodas to sample. The only downside is that this part of the show allows Paul to make a load more enemies by proclaiming his hate for a particular type of pop! In amongst all the snacking, we get to catch up with TrackBot… Poor old TrackBot!

  • They said it would never happen, but somehow it has! For the first time in over 5 years, the Barshens team have gathered in London for a special reunion episode of CheapShow! Paul and Eli welcome Stuart Ashen, Barry Lewis, Chris Bullock, Ryan Livermore and Izzie Jones (kinda) into their podcast world. It’s a packed show. Paul kicks things off with a few Sharticles, ranging from sexed up whales and dead hamsters to late library books and smooth bollocks. Along the way, there’ll be plenty of nonsensical tangents too. Not only that, but Paul crafts a Gannon’s Golden Games Gauntlet edition of Bars Vs Hens. Barry versus Stuart in three games to test their agility, creativity and dexterity. It’s the ultimate game of skill with a shocking outcome! Ryan and Chris get to play along too, as they’ll be betting on who will win AND play The Price of Shite for some quality p’twings! If you need your Barshens fix, this is the episode you have (probably) all been waiting for. Barshens Rises!!

  • It’s been long requested and finally, this week on CheapShow, you are getting what you asked for. It’s time to go Nightbussin! London has a large number of bus routes that start after midnight and run until the early morning. These routes help people get about the capital city at all hours, whether they are coming home from a late shift at work, or desperate to get home after a wild night out and the tubes are all closed. Night Busses are an important part of London and Paul and Eli are going to take one of these routes and invite you along. For their first adventure, for some reason, they have chosen the N18. It starts in Harrow and winds its way south towards Trafalgar Square. What will they witness, what will they remember and will it just be ANOTHER excuse for Eli to talk about himself and his younger days again? Either way, you’ll be on the journey with them in “real time”.
“Ding, Ding!”, the cheap chaps are off on another rambling adventure!

  • Sometimes, when Paul and Eli ask a big name to join the podcast, they fully expect the answer to be No. So when comedy legend Robert Popper agrees to appear, the Cheap Chaps are going to have to pull out all the stops to make this episode special. Luckily, Robert has come prepared and he’s brought along with him something sonically demented. It’s been a guilty pleasure of Robert’s for over 30 years and he’s agreed to share it with CheapShow. Prepare your ears for something even Urinevision would reject. What is “Scared of Me”? Who is Clifford? You’ll find out soon enough! Meanwhile, Paul has decided to make this week’s “Price of Shite” extra special for their guest. He’s tailored his cheap treasures around Robert’s career… But Paul may have gotten a bit confused. As if that wasn’t enough, we have another extra special guest who pops up to make for a grand finale! Cor blimey guv’nor! I can’t believe my ears!

With Special Guests: Robert Popper & Paul Putner (Spoilers!)

  • It’s been a while, but Eli and Paul are finally diving into a new batch of instant noodle. It’s a new year and because the Country Urban Noodle Testlab Kitchen is “occupied”, Eli is going to have to open up the “Noodle Boutique”. It’s a place where Eli can show off his hand picked noodle discoveries, and this week, he’s got two very interesting examples! Will they pass muster? Listen and find out! Paul contributes to this episode by simply p****** Eli off with a range of new and annoying characters. There’s a mean old man, a Scouse poet and a desperate ghost hunter out to ruin Eli’s return to noodletown. Maybe a quick game of The Price of Shite will make him feel better. Spoiler Warning: It doesn’t! More mucky business on CheapShow awaits you.

  • It’s time to get our much on! After a bit of break, Paul and Eli are venturing back to the Snack Palace to welcome a new bunch of snack candidates to see if they are worthy of entry to the hallowed building. There are three products arriving on the Segment Bus (don’t ask!) and they’ll prove to be interesting characters in their own horrible right! However, there is something dark lurking under the glamourous façade of the Palace. What happens to all the lost snacks who don’t even make it into the pool house? What are the Towel Mines? The answer may appal you. Or confuse you. There is also time for a quick “Off Brand / Brand Off” with the popular Quavers taking on a cheaper supermarket brand facsimile! Will Eli the Supertaster figure out the flavour code and choose wisely? Why not listen and find out?

  • This week’s episode is all a bit random and bemusing. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Bugs Bunny ever visited London in the early 1970s? The answer may confuse you. In a Charity Shop Showcase, Paul is offering up a strange child’s album featuring Warner Brother’s most famous Looney Tunes that brings up way too many questions. Eli has a few odd trinkets himself, a curious assortment of toys, games and tiny toys, but Paul would rather get into his Page Turners segment! There are three books to investigate, ranging from comedy double act tie-in annuals to a large helping of 1980s nostalgia with Smash Hits 1985. It’s the final book that proves to be the most interesting. What if you turned Cadbury’s Crème Eggs into a literal egg hunt? One book, following in the trail of the legendary “Masquerade”, will present its own “Conundrum”! Find out more in this week’s economy comedy podcast!

  • Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? Can you face the challenge of the champions? Do you have the courage of a hero? Do you have the will and the skill? Paul and Eli are going to find out this week when they attempt to play a board game based on the hit 1990s Saturday evening TV series, “Gladiators”. They’ll reminisce over their memories of the show, cover a tiny bit of its history and poke about for any mucky anecdotes before throwing down the board and playing the game… Which is probably for the best because game… Well, it’s not great! Also, after a bit of a break, Eli is back with his “Sauce Report” with a number of sweet and hot condiments to slurp down. Was it a good idea to resurrect this segment, or will the Cheap Chaps just be slurping down out of date sauce until the end of days? Find out this week, in a show packed with new characters, old gags and vast amounts of nonsense words.

  • Paul is SO close to finishing his (long in gestation) book this week, so wants to keep this week’s show simple. As a result, he is pulling out his big box of tat and inviting Eli to dive in and pull out anything of value, of interest or of pure disgust. It’s another real time episode with 60 minutes on the clock to wade through years’ worth of lost and forgotten cheap trinkets. There are odd albums to quickly listen to, pretty far out of date snacks and candies to munch on, a cassette of cartoon tunes to remember, some army rations to mull over and a whole range of weird odds and ends! Chances are, if you sent something to CheapShow over the years, it’s finally time to see if Paul kept hold of it long enough for this episode. Hold on tight, this one is a mad rush to the finish line!

  • A long time ago, CheapShow was sent an unusual 7” vinyl record called The Sounds of London. The record contained an audio snapshot of the sounds of Britain’s capital in 1967. It’s a fascinating collage of iconic sounds and environmental background noises, offering a unique peek into the past. Rather than talk it about it on a Silverman’s Platter segment, Paul & Eli decided to go out into the centre of London to try and recreate it instead! This week, they’ll race around with their portable recording kit and try and collect as many modern takes of the original vinyl as possible. The Cheap Chaps will zip from Trafalgar Square, to Waterloo, back to Piccadilly Circus and on towards Fleet Street grabbing all the sounds they can! Will they be magnificently successful or will they completely cock it up? It’s a walkabout adventure that takes in bird dirt, arguments with elevators, a lucky break with the bells of St. Clements and a grotty plan to abuse a street performer! It’s the Sounds of London 2024 in the only way CheapShow knows how.

  • It’s a proper jam packed, tat stuffed episode this week. Paul and Eli go head to head in one of most fiercely fought editions of The Price of Shite to date. Thanks to a PO box delivery, there is a wealth of charity store sourced items to peruse and evaluate for those sweet, sweet P’twings. From gadgets to board games, via retro magazines, grizzly VHS tapes and 90s nostalgia, there is a little bit of everything! Sadly, its during the Charity Shop Showcase where things go awry. Eli is in charge of the mystery item and Paul is not going to be happy when he finds out what he’s been fiddling with. It’s just another week in paradise for CheapShow.

  • It’s Radio CheapShow time. Sort of! It’s another whole episode dedicate to the utterly confounding world of vinyl record discoveries. Paul and Eli have unearthed some truly weird and confusing 7 inchers that will most likely be a chore to listen to. This week, the Cheap Chaps consider if “hustling” will really help them get ahead, unravel the dumb logic of an Electro song about The Lone Ranger, sample the delights of a Terrahawks pop princess and debate the musical legitimacy of Cannon & Ball. Along the way, a few upsetting new characters bubble out of the nonsense with a rather distasteful dog and a pointless robot taking up everyone’s valuable time. More economy comedy awaits!

  • It’s been a while, but CheapShow is ready to dive into the cheats, liars and conmen of the past. This week, Paul and Eli take a look into the life of journalist Louis T Stone, who spun many a tall tale and become notorious for his outrageous reports. However, they soon learn that when it comes to truth in journalism, the more things change, the more things stay the same. Once Mr Stone has been put away, it’s time for “Paul’s Pleasant Pastimes” and it’s one that should put their terrible mouth noise skills to good use. Will playing “Soundiculous” drive them mad? The odds are good!

  • Welcome to CheapShow 2024! A new year of adventures, laughs and meltdowns awaits you. Sadly, your hosts are ABSOLUTELY not in the mood to get back into the swing of things. Eli is deathly ill and (frankly) should have cancelled and Paul is left to desperately pick up the slack. Badly. What should’ve been a powerhouse first episode of the year is more like a desperate fever dream instead. Maybe if Paul sings more, things will go alright? They’ve got a mountain of sugary sweet treats to throw themselves into this week and it may not have been the wisest idea at the end of the day. What are IRN BRU branded energy drinks like, and was it a good idea for Barratt to lend their famous candy flavours to “spreadable mallow”? You’ll find out the hard way, just like Paul and Eli did. Also, Eli has a thing about dogs this week. We’ll have to blame his illness… This week!

  • After the drunken madness of the 5th Annual Christmas Office Party, Paul and Eli decide to end the year on a more reflective note. On the recommendation of YouTuber John Rogers, the Cheap Chaps take a merry wander through London, starting in Angel, Islington and ending in Highgate Village. It’s a walk that allows Paul & Eli to revisit a few old haunts and discover a few new corners of the Capital at the same time. Along the way they’ll dish out a bonus/unnecessary Tales from the Dance Floor, tell a few stories from their early stand-up comedy days and open a few surprise presents too! It’s CheapShow’s final episode of 2023, everyone! Merry Christmas, see you in 2024! X

  • Brace yourself! It’s time for the one episode of the year that always turns into an utter s***fest. It’s the 5th Annual Office Christmas Party and it’s going old school! After the tumultuous events of last year’s ambitious party, Paul has booked an actual abandoned office space to host his office shindig. He’s bought all the food, arranged all the booze and designed a very special Price of Shite. Eli has simply, begrudgingly, turned up. Over the next two and a half hours, you’re going to hear Eli form a union, Paul gets a little bit too drunk a little too fast, copious amounts of weird food consumed, a string of ugly cocktails spoiled by novelty mixers AND suffer through the toxic blasts of Eli’s guts. They’re going to try to “Eat, Drink and be Merry” but it’s more likely they’re going to “scoff, slurp and be angry”! Let’s just hope ALL those very special guests Paul invited turn up…

  • As 2023 winds down, Paul and Eli are coming apart at the seams. Can they mentally make it over the New Year finish line? Judging by this week’s episode, it’s going to be touch and go. It’s apparent from the start that Paul is in full chaotic evil mode and that going to make life difficult for Eli. Eli doesn’t make it easy for himself either, by being overly honest about something we’d all rather move on from talking about. Obviously, Paul is going to exploit that to extreme lengths. There is a PO Box sourced Price of Right to explore but Paul has slipped in a ringer. However, because he can’t win any points this episode, Paul is going to out of his way to make sure Eli doesn’t. Finally, Gannon’s Golden Games unearths a “party game” called F* That, which is exactly what they think after playing it. It’s a fiery episode of CheapShow to warm your cockles!

  • It looks like Paul and Eli are finally back in the House of Mash and Eggs after a month of LA adventures and they’re trying to get back into the groove. It’s not long before they are arguing, shouting and exaggerating again like they’d never been away. It seems that Hollywood had no effect on them at all. To ease themselves back into the old CheapShow game, they’re taking on some new and unusual sodas and diving back into Eli’s record box to sample some silly singles. Once again Coca Cola Creations rears its ugly head with a new coke allegedly created by A.I from the year 3000… or something like that? How will a computer crafted cola fare? Will it be any better than the Pokémon themed “cheese and salt water” fizzy drink? They’re going to find out the hard way. In Silverman’s Platters, it’s a trio of tracks to endure that bounces from early library music electronica, singing sheep and the ruddy Chegwin brothers! Who IS Jeff Chegwin anyway? Find out this week!

  • CheapShow wraps up its November month of very special episodes with a live show recorded as part of the Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival on November 4th at the Streatham Space Project, South London.
What happens when the vulgar, explosive nonsense of CheapShow teams up with the unnerving silliness of Digitiser? If you want to find out, listen to this episode of the economy comedy podcast! In 60 minutes, Paul, Eli, Mr Biffo and Sanja will take you on a random, hectic and damn near shambolic live show that just about gets across the finish line. Paul and Eli are still a little jetlagged from their Los Angeles adventure and bring some culinary leftovers from their trip. What American snacks will fail to pass muster and which will win over our stern judges? They also decide to give Mr Biffo a taste of The “Is It Mayo?” game and the outcome is one that causes Eli to leave the stage to go to the toilet. The grand finale of this week’s episode is the premiere performance of Beanus’ new play. It’s a production that tells you the REAL genesis of his story and isn’t deeply troubling AT ALL! Join us for the (not so) greatest show on Earth!

With thanks to Streatham Space Project and Cheerful Ear Podcast Festival

  • It's sadly time to say goodbye to America in the final episode of our Los Angeles Trilogy! However, if they are going to go out, they're going to go out in style! They're going to go BIG and then GO HOME when they somehow manage to wrangle the biggest guest of their weird existance! Joining Paul and Eli this week is comedian, actor, musician and slightly bemused human, Tim Heidecker (Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! On Cinema, Us, Office Hours)! How will he fare in a world of rockney, music mash ups, horror themed hip hop, cockney geezers, Disney education books, walkie talkies and Buddha boards? They're also joined by Brian Wecht (Ninja Sex Party) for a mix of vinyl treats and Price of Shite tricks! As a grand finale, Noiselund graces the economy comedy podcast with one more LA G-funk type track (kinda), taking us out in style!

Thanks to Tim Heidecker for taking the time to record with us!

Thanks to Brian Wecht for looking after us for a week and to Leighton Gray for being our technician for this recording!
