In this episode, we were fortunate to be connected through Blackmagic Design with Victor from TARGO, a Paris-based production company that has been pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling from the very beginning. Their latest project, “D-Day: The Camera Soldier”, is a groundbreaking documentary created specifically for the Apple Vision Pro. It blends historical footage with interactive and immersive elements, offering a completely new way to experience this pivotal moment in history.
Nino and Victor discuss the unique technical challenges involved in producing content for the Vision Pro, and explore why the effort is worthwhile despite the complexities. They also share their vision for how immersive production could become more accessible in the near future, especially with tools like the upcoming Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive — which we also reported about.
In case you own an Apple Vision Pro you can find the Documentary here:https://apps.apple.com/at/app/d-day-the-camera-soldier/id6737838494?l=en-GB

In this special episode of Focus Check, Nino Leitner is joined by cinematographer and educator Tal Lazar, known for his work with AFI, Columbia University, Sundance, and MZed. Together, they dive deep into what it really takes to become a visual storyteller in today’s rapidly changing film industry.
Can cinematography truly be taught? Is film school still worth the cost? Why do we obsess over gear when storytelling is the goal? And how can filmmakers bridge the intimidating gap between creativity and technology?
Tal shares insightful and often provocative thoughts on education, collaboration, and why the best cinematographers are also great communicators. He also talks about his highly rated MZed courses (The Art & Science of Lenses, Cinematography for Directors and The Language of Lighting), his new podcast VISIUM, and his upcoming book The Language of Cinematography.
🎬 Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting started, this episode is packed with real talk, deep insights, and a refreshing perspective on what makes great images truly work.

In this episode, we are honored to welcome a distinguished guest: Jakob Ballinger, founder and CEO of Lightbridge. With over a decade of experience as a Gaffer alongside Director of Photography Christian Berger, Jakob co-developed the innovative CRLS – Cine Reflectors – introduced in 2017. This groundbreaking approach to lighting emphasizes the use of reflected light to create naturalistic moods, resulting in cleaner sets with fewer stands and fixtures encumbering actors' spaces. Driven by a passion for sharing and inspiring new ideas, Jakob established Lightbridge to disseminate this evolution in lighting tools to filmmakers worldwide. It seems that several manufacturers are finding creative ways to reduce prices for their cameras. Following ARRI’s announcement last week, Blackmagic has now announced a price reduction for the URSA Cine 12K to $7,000. Given the strong engagement from the CineD community in the comments on ARRI’s announcement, it’s worth discussing and sharing different perspectives on cameras and the high-end cinema market.

A new ARRI announcement has likely caught the attention of many in the film industry. They have introduced the new ARRI ALEXA 35 Base Model, which comes at a lower price than the original (now called “ARRI ALEXA 35 Premium Model”) version but lacks some features that can be licensed and purchased separately. Nino and Johnny discuss this new pricing model and share their thoughts on why ARRI might be taking this approach. Additionally, there are some noteworthy cameras and firmware updates and new lenses worth discussing, so tune in for this week’s updates in the world of cine tech!

This week, Johnnie and Nino dare a long, hard look into the crystal ball to speculate and ponder about the cameras and lenses that they expect to be released in 2025. What are the big news we expect from Blackmagic Design, Canon, DJI, FUJIFILM, Nikon/RED, Panasonic, Sigma and Sony?
As you might now, CineD rarely speculates about unannounced products, but the beginning of the year is a good excuse to make an exception to that rule: There are a few cameras from various manufacturers that have been long-expected. For example, when can we expect an update to the Sony FX line, whether it’s a successor to the FX9, FX6, or FX3? Or a Sony a7S III? Or will we see the long-rumoured DJI camera sometime this year?
In this extensive talk, Nino Leitner and Johnnie Behiri dive deep into a mixture of well-founded expectations and probably also a little wishful thinking about what’s to come in both cameras and lenses this year.
