Ever since he was a boy, Joseph Smith faced critics—even enemies—as he tried to do God’s work. But it must have been particularly difficult in late 1831 when Ezra Booth began publicly berating the Church, because in this case the critic was a former believer. Ezra had seen Joseph use God’s power to heal a woman. He had been invited to accompany Joseph on the first survey of the land of Zion in Missouri. But he had since lost his faith and, in an attempt to discredit the Prophet, published a series of letters in an Ohio newspaper. And his efforts seemed to be working, because “unfriendly feelings … had developed against the Church” in the area (Doctrine and Covenants 71, section heading). What should believers do in a case like that? While there is not one right answer for every situation, it seems that often—including in this case in 1831—part of the Lord’s answer is to declare the truth and correct falsehoods by “proclaiming [the] gospel” (verse 1). Yes, the Lord’s work will always have critics, but in the end, “no weapon that is formed against [it] shall prosper” (verse 9).
Ideas for Teaching Children
Doctrine and Covenants 71
I can defend the truth by sharing my testimony.
Doctrine and Covenants 72:2
The Lord has called a bishop to help me.
Doctrine and Covenants 75:3
I can give my best effort to the Lord.

Children’s Come Follow Me Podcast
A Podcast for Children who go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
This week we study:
Worth … the Riches of the Whole Earth”
June 23–29: “Worth … the Riches of the Whole Earth”
Doctrine and Covenants 67–70
The Lord gave the revelations in the doctrine and covenants to Joseph Smith to help set up the kingdom of God on the earth in the last days. The Doctrine and Covenants is different from the Book of Mormon and bible, because it is not a translation of ancient documents; the Lord gave the revelations in D&C to His chosen prophets in our modern days in order to restore His kingdom. We learn all sorts of important things in the doctrine and covenants, like this week we learn kids should be baptized at the age of 8, we should center our homes around Jesus Christ, and that true and faithful friends help us follow Jesus Christ. If you want to hear the voice of the Lord, read the doctrine and covenants!

“The Lord Requireth the Heart and a Willing Mind”
Doctrine and Covenants 64–66
Forgiveness Podcast Lesson for Kids
Bullying Prevention Podcast for Kids
Doctrine and Covenants 64:10
Children will Learn:
Jesus Christ wants us to forgive others.
I Can Follow Jesus by Forgiving
God’s “great work” is built on “small things.”
In the miserable heat of August 1831, several elders were traveling back to Kirtland from the land of Zion in Missouri. The travelers were hot and weary, and tensions soon turned into quarrels. It may have seemed like building Zion, a city of love, unity, and peace, was going to take a long time.
Fortunately, building Zion—in Missouri in 1831 or in our hearts, families, and wards today—doesn’t require us to be perfect. Instead, “of you it is required to forgive,” the Lord said (Doctrine and Covenants 64:10). He requires “the heart and a willing mind” (verse 34). And He requires patience and diligence, for Zion is built on the foundation of “small things,” accomplished by those who do not become “weary in well-doing” (verse 33).

Testimony Podcast for Primary Kids
This week kids will learn:
I can share my love and testimony of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ wants me to share His gospel.
The Lord reminds us that we have a very special gift inside us: our testimony. What's a testimony? It's that feeling in your heart that tells you the gospel is true, that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and that Heavenly Father loves us.
The Lord tells us that when we share our testimony, it's like a special gift to Him. He says, "Blessed are you for testifying my name." When we tell others what we know and feel about the gospel, we are helping to build His kingdom!

Have you guys ever heard of a magical land called Narnia?
Two brothers and two sisters found a secret door in the back of a closet that led them to a magical world called Narnia.
It’s a world with fantastic creatures and mythical beasts! Talking animals, giants, dwarves, dragons, & unicorns abound. In the land of Narnia, the children join a magical lion named Aslan in the fight against the evil white witch.
In the story, the Lion Aslan is a representation of symbol for Jesus Christ. The Lion Aslan sacrifices himself to save a young naughty boy. Everyone is so sad. But then Aslan comes back to life.
Does that sound like or remind you of Jesus?
In the story, Aslan the Lion gives each of the siblings gifts so they can win the fight against evil.
The oldest brother Peter receives a sword and a shield,
The oldest sister Susan receives a bow and arrows and a horn,
And the littlest sister Lucy is given a bottle of healing tonic. A magical medicine.
Eventually, as the children use their special gifts from Aslan the Lion, they defeat the evil white witch and the land of Narnia is saved!
It’s a really neat story! You should read it with your parents and see if you can recognize ways the lion is the same as Jesus!
Well one way the Lion Aslan is like Jesus is that Aslan gave each of the children special gifts. Did you know that our Heavenly Father and Jesus have also given each of YOU special gifts?
God gives every person spiritual gifts. That means He blesses us with talents through the Holy Ghost!
Do you guys know what your spiritual gifts are?
Are you listening to this podcast with an adult or someone else right now? If you are, ask them what your spiritual gifts are! Or if you are listening by yourself, you can pray and ask Heavenly Father.
If you don’t know what your spiritual gifts are, you can pray to Heavenly Father to find out!
You can also work on your spiritual gifts to make them stronger!
So why do we have different spiritual gifts?
Heavenly Father gives us spiritual gifts to bless others!
Spiritual gifts are blessings or abilities that are given by the power of the Holy Ghost. God gives at least one of these gifts to every faithful member of the Church. As you receive these gifts, they will strengthen and bless you individually and help you serve others.

“The Promises … Shall Be Fulfilled”
Doctrine and Covenants 45
I can “stand in holy places” and not be moved.
What do you learn in Doctrine and Covenants 45:31–32, 56–57 about preparing for the Lord’s coming? What are your “holy places”? What does it mean to “not be moved”? How can you make where you are more holy?
Jesus Christ will come again.
The destruction that will happen before the Second Coming may make children afraid. Pointing them to Jesus Christ can help them look forward with faith!
This week in Doctrine and Covenants the Lord tells us to Stand in Holy Places. One of those Holy Places is temples!
He also says stand in holy places and be not moved. to “stand in holy places, and … not be moved” means to choose the right at all times, no matter what is happening. How can we make our home a more holy place?
Try to be a peacemaker.
Keep your home clean and orderly.
Don’t watch listen to or read things that make the spirit want to leave.
Holy places help us stay strong in our faith and feel peace.

This week we learn:
These sections are full of mission calls and instructions from the Lord! Sections 30–36 focus on urging individuals to step up and share the gospel with enthusiasm and faith.
This week we learn about preparing for the spiritual harvest and working together to bring others to Christ. It’s a reminder that sharing the gospel brings joy, blessings, and the opportunity to make a real difference.
I am called to be a witness of Jesus Christ.
Whether or not you have a formal calling as a missionary, you can be a witness of Jesus Christ “at all times, and in all things, and in all places”
If I build my life on the Savior’s gospel, I will not fall.
I should focus more on the things of God than the things of the earth.
Parley P. Pratt had been a member of the Church for about a month when he was called “into the wilderness” to preach the gospel (Doctrine and Covenants 32:2). Thomas B. Marsh had been a member for even less time than that when he was told, “The hour of your mission is come” Orson Pratt, Edward Partridge, and many others had likewise barely been baptized when their mission calls came. Perhaps there’s a lesson in this pattern for us today: if you know enough to accept the restored gospel by baptism, you know enough to share it with others.

Armor of God podcast for Kids
Armor of God podcast for children
All Things Must Be Done in Order”
Doctrine and Covenants 27–28
The armor of god is what this episode mainly focuses on.
Revelation was still a relatively new concept for the Saints as the Restoration continued to unfold. Early Church members knew that the Prophet Joseph Smith could receive revelation for the Church. But could others? Questions like this became critical when Hiram Page, one of the Eight Witnesses of the gold plates, believed he had received revelations for the Church. Many faithful Saints believed that these revelations were from God. The Lord responded by teaching that in His Church “all things must be done in order” (Doctrine and Covenants 28:13). This week we will learn this story and learn that only the prophet can receive revelation for the church.
The scriptures teach that we should put on the “whole armor” of God (see Ephesians 6:11–18 and D&C 27:15–18). When we study the scriptures and pray, it’s like we put on armor that helps keep us safe.
Helmet of Salvation
A helmet protects the head. We keep our mind safe when we follow Jesus and do what He wants us to do.
Shield of Faith
Faith in Jesus Christ is like a shield of protection. When we believe in Jesus and try to be like Him, we can make good choices, even when things are hard.
Breastplate of Righteousness
The breastplate protects the heart. When we love God with all our heart, we try to keep His commandments. We are blessed when we choose the right.
Etc.

This week we are learning: In a revelation the Lord gave Joseph, He asked Emma to choose songs to be made into a hymn book.
The Lord said, "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me." As we sing hymns and primary songs, it’s like a prayer to Heavenly Father.
March 17–23: “Seek for the Things of a Better World”
Doctrine and Covenants 23–26
Satan clearly was fighting against the restoration of Gods church. Not only was there an angry mob yelling at Emma Smith while she was getting baptized, but that same day, Joseph was arrested twice even though he did nothing wrong. This must have been scary for Emma.
In all this opposition, how could Emma know that she was doing the right thing? The same way we can know it—through revelation from the Lord. the Lord counseled,
"Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days.
Did you know the Lord called Emma an Elect Lady?
"Elect" means chosen, selected, or set apart.
The Lord had chosen Emma to do certain things. He also has chosen you to help his work too! And he will give you power and blessings to do so.
there is something pretty amazing about doctrine and covenants 25 that we read this week.
President Nelson recently promised the women of the Church that if we prayerfully studied this revelation, the Holy Ghost would teach us how to access the power of God in our lives.

This week children will learn
The Church of Jesus Christ has been restored.
Obeying God’s word through His prophets will give me divine protection.
Sacred ordinances help me become like the Savior.
Jesus Christ has restored His Church.
We are so blessed that Jesus Christ has restored His Church!
Why do we have an organized Church?
the best answer is “Because Jesus Christ organized one.”
Joseph Smith was given a revelation during that first church meeting and in it Heavenly Father described blessings that would not have been possible if the true Church of Jesus Christ had not been “regularly organized and established” in the latter days (Doctrine and Covenants 20:1).
As you study Doctrine and Covenants 20–21, you might notice similarities between the Church He established anciently and the one He has restored today.
When the Church was organized, the Lord taught His Saints about sacred ordinances, including baptism and the sacrament. Sacred ordinances help us become like the Savior.
Obeying God’s word through His prophets will give me divine protection.
Doctrine and Covenants 21:4–9 contains invitations to follow the Lord’s prophet and powerful promises for people who do.

This week we learn that Joseph Smith needed to publish the Book of Mormon, and in order to do that Martin Harris needed to mortgage his farm:
From saints:
Joseph knew the Lord wanted him to publish the Book of Mormon and spread its message far and wide. Publishing a book as long as the Book of Mormon would also not be cheap. They went first to Egbert Grandin, a printer in Palmyra who was the same age as Joseph. he wanted to be paid $3,000 to print and bind five thousand copies before he even started work.
To put this into perspective, Joseph had paid $200 for his entire home and farm in Harmony, so $3,000 was an enormous amount of money.
Martin had already promised to help pay for the printing, but to come up with that kind of money, he realized he might need to mortgage his farm.
He had one of the best farms in the area. If he mortgaged his land, he risked losing it. Martin told Joseph his concerns and asked him to seek a revelation for him. In response, the Savior spoke of His sacrifice to do His Father’s will,
Thou shalt not covet thine own property,” the Lord said, “but impart it freely to the printing of the Book of Mormon.” The book contained the true word of God, the Lord assured Martin, and it would help others believe the gospel.
Should Martin use his farm to help get the Book of Mormon printed? give a thumbs up if you think he should and a thumbs down if you think he shouldn't.
Although his neighbors would not understand his decision, Martin obeyed the Lord and mortgaged his farm to guarantee payment.
Children will learn:
Jesus Christ obeyed Heavenly Father, even when it was hard.
God’s blessings are greater than the treasures of the earth.
Jesus Christ suffered so that I can repent and come unto Him.
-
God tells us that his joy is great when we repent! And if we help others to come unto Christ and repent, we will have that joy too!
13 And how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth!
14 Wherefore, you are called to cry repentance unto this people.
15 And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!
16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!
you will always be valuable to Heavenly Father! He knows you. He knows your name. You are precious to Him!
But here on earth the adversary tries to make us forget that.
There are many different ways people try to measure a person’s worth. How talented is someone, how educated are they? How much money do they make? How beautiful are they? But in God’s eyes, our worth is much simpler. We are his children and we are important to him! “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” This explains so much of what God does and why He does it. Why did He instruct Joseph and Oliver to establish the Church of Jesus Christ in our day?
Because the worth of souls is great.
Why does He “command all men everywhere to repent” and send Apostles to preach repentance?
Because the worth of souls is great.
And why did Jesus Christ suffer “death in the flesh” and “the pain of all men”?
Say it with me!
Because the worth of souls is great.

“Upon You My Fellow Servants”
Doctrine and Covenants 12–17; Joseph Smith—History 1:66–75
The Aaronic Priesthood Is Restored
John the Baptist visits Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry and restores the priesthood on earth.
This week we are going to learn that the keys of the priesthood are a super important a part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Priesthood keys are given to act in God's name, by his power and authority. For example God has given us keys to baptize and bless the sacrament Because these keys were restored to God’s church, we enjoy many blessings made through covenants that bring us closer to Jesus Christ.
Joseph and Oliver worked hard translating the gold plates into english for many days.
They came to the part of the Book of Mormon where Jesus Christ appeared to the Nephites. They read that Jesus gave Nephi the priesthood power and authority to baptize. Joseph and Oliver knew that the authority to baptize was not on the earth in their day.
Joseph and Oliver wanted to know more about the authority to baptize, could anyone do it? How did it work? They walked to the trees near Joseph's house. They prayed and asked God about the authority to baptize in Christ's name. While they were praying, an angel descended from heaven in a cloud of light. The angel was John the Baptist, John the Baptist had the Aaronic Priesthood—God’s authority
to baptize. Jesus was baptized to set an
example for us, and John was the person that baptized Jesus!
Now as an angel, John the Baptist put his hands on Joseph and Oliver’s heads and said, "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins." The power and authority of the Aaronic Priesthood was restored to the earth!
Why did an angel need to come and give it to them? Because no one on earth had that power. John the Baptist then told Joseph and Oliver they should baptize each other, so they went
to the River and and were baptized. They both felt the power of the Holy Ghost and after this, understanding the scriptures was way easier!
And now, because the priesthood authority is back on the earth, we can be baptized like Jesus was, repent from bad choices, and receive the power of the Holy Ghost!

This weeks primary podcast is about: Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry receive revelation NOT to retranslate the plates from which the manuscript was stolen.
It might make sense to retranslate that portion, but the Lord saw something they could not: their enemies were planning to alter the words on those pages to cast doubt on Joseph’s inspired work. God had a plan to avoid that problem and keep the work moving forward. Thousands of years earlier, God inspired Nephi to write a second record that covered the same time period “for a wise purpose in Him” (1 Nephi 9:5).
“My wisdom,” the Lord said to Joseph, “is greater than the cunning of the devil” (Doctrine and Covenants 10:43). That’s a reassuring message in a day like ours, when the adversary is intensifying his efforts to weaken faith. Like Joseph, we can be “faithful and continue on” in the work God has called us to do (verse 3). Then we will find that He has already provided a way so that “the gates of hell shall not prevail” against us (verse 69).
The Lord’s “wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil.”
Nephi didn’t know why he was inspired to make two sets of records of his people. And Mormon didn’t know why he was inspired to include the second set with the gold plates. But both prophets trusted that God had “a wise purpose” (1 Nephi 9:5; Words of Mormon 1:7).
We will also learn about Divine Design reading from accounts in Elder Ronald A. Rasband’s message “By Divine Design”—they might bring examples to your mind (Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2017, 55–57).
And we read from: The Lord’s Hand”
President M. Russell Ballard
A talk given at BYU
He basically tells the story of his ancestor who was on the Mayflower and during a terrible storm fell overboard. As this man was falling he was somehow able to grab onto a rope and hang on for dear life as he was drug through the water until the storm subsided. He now has over 2 million Americans who can trace their lives and genealogy back to him. Including several US Presidents, authors, and even our own prophet Joseph Smith!
