The name alone is synonymous with prodigy music remixer! More than two decades of experience molded this multi-faceted international artist into the force to be reckoned with that stands today. Just like his predecessors in the Kizomba world, Peejay made an indelible mark in the modern aspect of the music genre that we enjoy today. DJ Peejay also known as Peejay C. was born Paul George dos Santos Cardoso in Darwin, Australia to Cape Verdean parents. His upbringing was surrounded by music. His influences were diverse, but the strongest ones came from his brothers who were musicians as well. His initiation to the music industry started with DJ engagements at events and parties as a teenager. It was in 1995 that Peejay, one of his brothers (ACC) & a friend (Caly) formed the band called “Melodee”. They experimented with fusing R&B and Cabo-Love/Kizomba music. A hit was born from it; the song called “Pretty Sexy Lady” featured on their debut album released in 1997. This prompted the beginning of a producing career for Peejay. While he was working the rounds of African clubs in Lisbon as a DJ, Peejay was perfecting his craft as a Music Producer simultaneously. His list of collaborations spoke of his discipline, work ethic and talent. He worked and produced for some well-known artists and groups in the European scene. The biggest production project was the album "Depois do Triunfo" from the female Angolan artist Deusa. Soraia's song "Fantasy World", was also a hit that had been touched by Peejay’s production skills. It was part of the CD/DVD compilation "ZonErogen" released by the artist Nichols and the Erogen team; that song became a great hit in Portugal, France and UK, especially in the African community. After the success of Peejay's single "Dar-te prazer", he released his first solo album titled "Revolution" in 2008 after moving to United States. While he was already experimenting producing Kizomba remixes of Hip-hop and R&B hits since 2004, It was in 2009 that Peejay solidified his status as the originator of the R&B Zouk*/Kizomba remixes. The album “Zouk Fusion - The Remixes” was released. This album was produced in its totality by Peejay and featured his signature Fusion Remixes with hits like the Kizomba version of Usher’s Trading Places. Following its momentous success and the demand for more remixes, Zouk Fusion Vol 2 - Return of The Zouk Fusion King was released in 2011 starting a new movement where other DJs and producers started to follow his steps and creating Zouk*/Kizomba remixes. Peejay’s versatility and cross-training in the music industry is a testament to the quality of his work across the board. His execution projects the array of style in which he navigates through when producing & working as a DJ (Afrobeats, Kizomba, Zouk Love, Cabo Love, Tarraxinha, HipHop, RnB, Dance music, Bachata, Merengue, Salsa & Kompa). He is one of the top leading Kizomba DJs in the US and the top Kizomba DJ in the state of Florida, bringing authenticity and education about the music genre on the Tampa Bay and Orlando scene. He is also the official Kizomba DJ for Aventura Dance Cruise - World's Largest Latin Dance Cruise and featured as a DJ on some of the predominant Kizomba Festivals in the US like for example The Miami Beach Kizomba Festival. His 26+ years of experience has earned him the title of The Music Drug Lord, and once you experience his work, you will understand why it suits him well!*Not to be confused with Brazilian-Zouk.by Natacha Zamor
