Today Asif and Ali discuss the Oscar nominated movie âThe Substanceâ (1:44) (mild spoilers follow). They discuss the overall genre of body horror and the classic Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg and how the end of the substance is similar to the end of âThe Flyâ. They then chat about how âThe Substanceâ was developed by acclaimed director Coralie Fargeat. They discuss the cast â including an award winning turn by Demi Moore â and the superb make up and special effects. They also briefly discuss some alleged conflict on the set. The guys then sum up their thoughts on the movie.
Then Ali asks Asif about botulinum toxin (Botox) (23:05) . Asif discusses first what botulism is and how humans can be infected with it, especially in infants. He then discusses the toxin specifically, and chats about what it is, how it works and its use in cosmetic procedures as well as medical procedures. Asif then discusses the risks of the procedure and the costs.

They discuss his other projects and then Asif asks Ali about Normâs comedy style and Aliâs thoughts on MacDonaldâs last Netflix comedy special âNothing Specialâ. After a brief discussion of Normâs gambling issues, they then discuss how he kept his diagnosis of multiple myeloma a secret for years and what eventually led to his death in 2021.
MacDonald had several stem cell transplants, so in the second half, Ali asks Asif about these. Asif explains how stem cell transplants and bone marrow transplants are the same thing, the history of this procedure and how it is used against cancer. Asif goes over the different types of transplants, how the stem cells are harvested and how one finds a donor. Finally they discuss the complications of stem cell transplants.

Today, Ali and Asif continue their discussion about the 50th season of Saturday Night Live by discussing the recent movie âSaturday Nightâ (3:21). Today, Ali and Asif interview the sensational comedian Sterling Scott. Sterling made history as the first ever BIPOC comedian to win the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, one of only two Canadian comedians selected for the Netflix is a Joke Comedy Festival earlier this year, and was the first comedian to ever be given the Golden Buzzer as a finalist on the most recent season of Canadaâs Got Talent.
