  • The timing for a very raw conversation about colour, culture and class in Jamaica couldn’t be more perfect. This conversation with Dr. Kim-Marie Spence is a must listen episode!

Kim-Marie Spence is a cultural industries and policy academic as well as a  Rhodes Scholar. She is the epitome of driven and I personally identify with her on so many levels. Kim-Marie shares with us  how living in 11 countries (including Antarctica) helped her to have a global perspective. This perspective ultimately helped her to overcome self doubt and insecurities emerging from unpleasant confrontations related to class and colour.

If you’re a high achiever not from the ‘requisite background’ you’ll learn a lot from Kim-Marie on how to navigate spaces where you’re faced with opposition.

She speaks about her views on Cecil Rhodes, a point of view I think is absolutely progressive.

Kim-Marie shares action steps for persons ready to pursue their dreams and why driven women have to make a decision around their family life early on.

Finally, stay for the laughter and a light hearted approach towards topics that can be pretty heavy for some of us.

  • It is my pleasure and privilege to launch Season 3 of the Driven Woman Podcast with Jamaican Rhodes Scholar and Oxford Alumnus, Dr. Yolande E. Chan.

Dr. Chan has led and continues to lead a full life as an academic, wife and mother and she has generously shared her lessons learnt along the way. We discuss the importance of faith, taking responsibility and the experiences that have allowed her to realise that there is no need for perfection.

We explore some of her highs and lows at Oxford as a woman of Caribbean ancestry. Dr. Chan also shares some solid suggestions for professional women desirous of finding a partner from her perspective as someone who has been married for 37 years.

Pour your glass of wine or  green juice and have your pen and journal on hand because you’re sure to have an ‘aha’ moment or two from this episode.
