  • We are pleased to invite Laura Zam, an author, speaker, certified trauma professional, and sexuality educator, to our discussion today. Laura spent three decades searching for love and eventually met the man of her dreams. In response, Laura embarked on a journey of sexual healing, studying everything there was to know about trauma recovery, female sexuality, and relationship health. • It was awesome getting to know the Brian and Julia Mandeville. We discussed Julia’s endometriosis diagnosis, the struggles of having pain dismissed, the importance of self-care for both partners, the importance of patience (except for people who think it's their business to inquire about your fertility), advice for other couples navigating chronic illness, and much more. They are a beautiful example of how two individuals can be so different and yet still truly meant to be. Though they remain in the thick of it, they've learned a lot about navigating endometriosis in marriage so check out this convo and let us know: what felt relatable? What tips would you share with other couples navigating chronic illness?

  • We had such a great time speaking with Mike and Kellie Baker, an amazing couple and parents of three lovely children. Kellie suspected that their daughter’s symptoms were due to endometriosis, then later realized that she too was experiencing symptoms that also appeared to be due to endometriosis. Her suspicions were right. Soon after their daughter’s laparoscopic surgery that confirmed her endometriosis diagnosis, Kellie had surgery which confirmed her endometriosis diagnosis as well. Kellie and Mike shared so many powerful insights into what it’s like to care for a child with endometriosis, how they stay connected while navigating chronic illness, and how to seek out moments of joy through the journey.

Mike is fondly known in the endometriosis community as @Endodad76. He’s an Endodad and an EndoHusband who uses his AI art to create endo warrior tributes designed to honor and inspire those who are dealing with this devastating disease. Check out his work on his IG page or his website https://endodad76.zenfoliosite.com/

  • We had the honor of attending the 2nd Annual Endo Black Inc. Award Gala and had a wonderful time! Endo Black Inc. is a Black women-led nonprofit organization advocating for and raising awareness about the challenges faced by African-American women and women of color living with endometriosis. This special event was such a beautiful way to recognize individuals who are working tirelessly within the endometriosis community. All who were in attendance had the opportunity to be wowed by the entertainment, inspired by award recipients' stories and acceptance speeches, and learn so much about the impact that Endo Black Inc. is having on the community.

  • We continue our conversation about sexual medicine and reestablishing intimacy with Nurse Jenna of @discovherhealth. The main take home messages: if you have reached the point of your pelvic pain journey where you’re ready to work on sexual intimacy, you can really collapse time by working with a sexual medicine specialist and pelvic floor physical therapist who can help guide your efforts. Whether you can access one or not, building your knowledge is the most powerful thing you can do!! Seek out reputable sexual medicine resources and follow the social media accounts of clinicians who are committed to improving the sexual health of all.

Lastly, you can’t rush your healing so introduce new therapies such as self touch, vibrators, a new lubricant, dilators, a pelvic wand, even stretches and exercises that support your pelvic floor — SLOWLY and with a curious, evaluative mindset. Reflect on the sensations it created, how your body responded, and gauge your readiness to step it up a notch.

The Discovher Health website is full of FREE resources on various pelvic conditions and her curated HERshop is full of Nurse Jenna-approved health and pleasure products. Check it out! Www.discovherhealth.com ; https://shop.discovherhealth.com/

  • We had the honor of having Nurse Jenna, Founder of Discovher Health, join us as we discussed intimacy, sex, and active consent. This convo felt like three old friends reuniting after being away from each other for far too long. Nurse Jenna comes through with great tips for getting you started on an intimacy-building journey despite dealing with chronic illness. She treats a wide array of chronic pelvic conditions and also has a great podcast called Tame the Taboo where she invites guests to discuss topics that most of us learned to avoid: sex, pee, poop, and pain. Jenna’s passion for education is an integral component to her practice. She believes it is essential for a person to understand how their body functions in order to heal dysfunction and improve quality of life. She created Discovher Health so she could deliver quality care in an environment that prioritizes patient education, evidenced-based care, and TIME! Please forgive me (Kimether) for nerding out with Nurse Jenna. When two Nurse Practitioners get together, it's a whole vibe! I love the work she's doing and I aspire to be like her when I "grow up." :)

  • We were joined by Amy Corfeli on the latest episode of Endo Thick of It. Amy is an amazing advocate for endometriosis awareness and has been actively spreading awareness about this condition through her podcast, In 16 Years of Endometriosis. Yes, it took 16 years of debilitating endometriosis symptoms before she was able to get her diagnosis and obtain expert excision surgery. She’s also the author of the book, Finding Peace with a Devastating Disease. I’m reading her book now and it’s raw, validating, and beautifully written. Get ready to enjoy a front-row seat and what happens when three passionate folks decide to have a discussion full of introspection, sage wisdom, and lessons learned from the brutal trial and error of chronic illness.

Amy’s insights were so on point. It was like she was our coach, helping us process our own views on self-compassion and meeting our needs both outside and inside our relationship. Thank you, Amy!

Please note that this podcast is not intended to provide any medical advice. If you suspect that you may have endometriosis or any other medical condition, we strongly recommend that you seek professional medical advice from a licensed healthcare provider.
