    Whitney Russel is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist/Supervisor. Whitney earned her Bachelors in Psychology from Austin College in Sherman, Texas and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas. Whitney began her counseling career at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center working at a rehabilitative residential treatment center with struggling teens. From there she began her journey as an expert in the field of eating disorders. Her experience in this area ranges from being a primary therapist at a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient setting at the Renfrew Center of Texas to being the Regional Director for the Center For Discovery where she has been overseeing the clinical and daily operations of several of our treatment centers.

    Her clinical experience has allowed her to work with people of all ages, races, genders, socioeconomic status, body sizes, and sexual orientations at all levels of care. Through this work she has gained immense compassion and love for the human experience. Her favorite part about being a therapist is establishing relationships with her clients where she is able to help them see what they have been missing about themselves all along- that they are powerful beings worthy of great love, belonging, and connection.

    Whitney is also a wife, mom of 4 wonderfully energetic children, Enneagram 1, and lover of plants, nutella, thrift stores, and good tattoos.

  • So you have probably heard the term social anxiety but do you know what it means. Often people struggle with SAD for years before they even realize what is going on.

    It may look like saying "no" to going out on situations you may not have any control in. It can look different for many. Social anxiety is the fear of social situations that involve interaction with other people. You could say social anxiety is the fear and anxiety of being negatively judged and evaluated by other people. Today, we chat with Dr. Brad Imhoff where he shares his personal struggles with social anxiety and helps us learn more about this topic.

    Dr. Brad Imhoff earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision from Ohio University and is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Counseling for Liberty University Online. His clinical work has largely focused on addiction treatment, specifically helping those consumed by the opioid addiction epidemic. Even so, having struggled with social anxiety during much of his life, this topic became a passion and primary scholarly interest of his. He has presented many times at local, state, and national conferences on using cognitive therapies to understand and treat social anxiety
