Reed Krakoff's approach to design is anything but ordinary. And yet, he's one of the chief architects of the accessible luxury movement. Before his nearly 20-year run at Coach, where he fully changed the game, he worked at Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. And more recently, he did a much-talked-about stint at Tiffany. Now, he's advising the LVMH-linked investment firm L Catterton on multiple brands, including the 50-year-old jeweler John Hardy. He and Lauren discuss all that and more—from growing up to in Connecticut to getting fired in New York City, and what it felt like to experience truly next-level success. Reed also has advice for today's brand builders.

Together, the duo interrogate Coppola’s relationship with fashion, on- and off-screen: her incredible influence on modern aesthetics, her impact on the industry, and why she’s personally important to them. (As true professionals, they also tried their best not to be too sycophantic. They may or may not have failed.)

In the never-ending saga of American department stores, Saks Global’s acquisition of the Neiman Marcus Group for $2.7 billion will go down in history as one of the most complicated—and consequential—plot points. Lauren and Saks Global C.E.O. Marc Metrick run through the list of complaints against the luxury department store super group, which includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman—from issues paying vendors to customer return snafus.
