The Karen Read trial started with jury selection on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024. She is accused of fatally running over her boyfriend, John O'Keefe, with her SUV while drunk. Karen maintains her innocence and claims that there is a cover-up.

The TikTok Psychic defamation case had a hearing for summary judgment. Both the plaintiff and defendant had a chance to argue their cases. The judge will decide in writing soon.

Bryan Kohberger filed an alibi stating that his phone records would show that he was not in the area at the time of the murders.

Alec Baldwin gets a new prosecutor added to his case. And the Oklahoma Texting Judge ended up costing the state over $111K in attorney's fees.

Karen Read is accused of murder in the second degree, driving under the influence, and fleeing the scene of a hit and run of her police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe. The prosecution and defense paint different pictures of what happened on the night of his death.

The prosecution claims that Karen and John had problems in their relationship and that she ran him over with her car while drunk, before fleeing the crime scene. The defense states that Karen dropped off her boyfriend at a party with his work colleagues and that it is more likely that he was attacked in the home before being left outside in the blizzard to die. Karen also claims she is being set up by the cops as a cover-up for their actions.

A Federal investigation is also currently being conducted but has not yet concluded. In contrast to the prosecution's evidence, Federal investigators say that they do not believe John O'Keefe was hit by a car.

The jury selection begins Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, and I will be covering it gavel to gavel!

  • Hannah Gutierrez's attorney requested the court to do a conditional discharge which places her on probation with certain conditions. Upon the successful completion of that probation, there will be no conviction on her record. The prosecution responded that Hannah is eligible for a conditional discharge, however, it should not be granted because other felonies are pending and cites failure to accept responsibility due to what was said in the recorded jail calls.

I'll be live on the Emily D. Baker YouTube channel to cover the sentencing on Monday, April 15th at 11 am CST.

The state responded to Alec Baldwin's motion to dismiss the indictment. The state detailed how they followed the rules of the grand jury and why the trial should move forward. They also explained the reason for rescinding the original plea deal. The state says that after they extended the plea deal to Alec Baldwin, they never responded to the email, told a reporter about the nature of the plea deal, commissioned a documentary about the shooting, and pressured witnesses to be interviewed in the documentary.

In a new filing, Diddy and his son, Christian "King" Combs, were sued by a crew member and bartender on a yacht. The attorney representing this case is the same attorney representing Lil' Rod. In an unrelated case, the attorney has been referred to the discipline committee for filing cases in federal court to boost media attention.

Bryan Kohberger had a fiery hearing. The TikTok Psychic was mentioned by the survey expert, Bryan Edelman, as part of misinformation that is floating around about the case. A video of the prosecutor, Bill, was used as an example of disseminating information.

Bill accused Edelman of tainting the jury pool and Edelman said he was so angry it made him cry. The judge didn't make a ruling but did push back the change of venue hearing to June 27th, 2024, and kept the May 14th, 2024 Hearing to go over a motion to compel.

On Friday, April 5, 2024, news broke that Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs and his son Christian were sued in Los Angeles. This suit was referenced in Lil Rod’s lawsuit, with a note that a suit would be forthcoming. The suit's allegations stem from incidents on the Holiday Yacht trip that are also detailed in Lil’ Rod’s suit. Unsurprisingly, this plaintiff and Lil’ Rod have the same attorney, currently under fire in New York Federal court. The attorneys for UMG brought to the court's attention a court order in an unrelated case brought by Attorney Blackburn wherein the court ordered him referred to the discipline committee of the federal court. In a comment given to the media, attorney Blackburn states that the two things have nothing to do with the other. One thing is clear: these cases aren’t slowing down.

On the podcast, I covered Sean 'Diddy' Combs’ most recent lawsuit from Lil' Rod and its connections to the subsequent raids. An arrest was made of his supposed drug mule and there is a high possibility that Diddy will also be arrested in the future. Rumor has it that the feds have been talking to Kefee D. regarding Diddy's possible involvement with the murder of Tupac Shakur and Shug Knight had a message for Diddy from prison.

Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to 40 years in prison and ordered to pay over $8.7 million in restitution for federal financial crimes. This is in addition to the two life sentences for the murder of his wife and son and 27 years in prison for state financial crimes.

Bryan Kohberger had a new hearing because his lawyers were surveying the residents of Latah County via telephone without the court's knowledge. The prosecution revealed the questions that were asked to the citizens as they believed it violated the non-dissemination order.

The judge scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, April 4th to see if they can draft better questions for a new survey. I will be covering that on the channel as well as Tom Girardi's trial, which has been moved to August 6th, 2024.

A lot has happened since Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs settled with ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Four people have sued Diddy and federal agents have since raided his three homes. I wouldn't be surprised if all or some of his accusers have been cooperating with the feds to build a case against Diddy.

I go over the second amended complaint filed by Lil' Rod and how his initial filing could have led to the federal investigation. Statements made by Diddy's lawyers and Homeland Security imply a broader operation and I suspect the raid was done to preserve digital evidence of illegal activities in the homes.

Although Diddy hasn't been arrested, that doesn't mean he won't be in the future. Brendan Paul was arrested during the raid and is suspected of being Diddy's drug mule. There is a high possibility that Diddy could be charged with Federal RICO charges.

Prosecutors may go as far back as 1999 and the infamous Club New York shooting when looking at the RICO charges. Diddy was dating Jennifer Lopez at the time and this may have broader implications.

There have also been rumors that Keefe D could be cooperating with the authorities in connection to this investigation. Suge Knight has also recently sent a message to Diddy about the raids and possible future imprisonment. This is wild!

There was a massive release of videos, photos, and interviews related to the Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt case, including both women’s arrest and interview videos, interviews with Ruby’s estranged husband Kevin Franke, and her journal.

When police arrived to search Jodi’s home, she was already on the phone with her lawyer and kept her lawyer on the phone for a substantial amount of time.  Ruby not only exercised her right to remain silent but mostly simply blinked at law enforcement while looking outraged that they had arrested her.

The federal government wants to break its plea deal with Alex Murdaugh ahead of his April 1st, 2024 sentencing on 22 federal financial crimes. Federal Prosecutors had offered Alex Murdaugh a plea deal based on his truthful interviews and disclosures about any criminal activity, where the proceeds of the crimes have gone etc.

For that, they would ask that the sentence on the federal crimes run concurrently with the state financial crimes, for which he is already serving 27 years. Since Alex's plea deal will not move forward, the judge will most likely apply an upward variance from the proposed guideline ranger.

Alec Baldwin’s attorneys filed over 700 pages in support of their Motion to Dismiss the grand jury indictment, arguing that the prosecution gave inappropriate jury instructions to the grand jury and that the prosecution acted in bad faith when they failed to present exculpatory evidence.

The prosecution has extended time to respond and the court hasn’t set a hearing on this yet. However, the trial date in July will be here before you know it. Hannah’s defense made an emergency motion for a new trial and release, in a hearing on March 29, 2024, the court denied both motions and reminded counsel that the sentencing would go forward as scheduled on April 15, 2024.

Kouri Richins is now facing 11 charges, including counts of attempted murder, mortgage fraud, insurance fraud, and forgery. The new information brings to light that Kouri had previously tried to poison Eric on Valentine's Day, had an affair, confessed to wanting out of the marriage but couldn't leave because she would be left with nothing under the pre-marital agreement, and had no idea she wasn’t going to be the beneficiary of Eric’s estate.

Now that Hannah Gutierrez has been convicted of manslaughter, what does this mean for Alec Baldwin’s case? His team has filed for dismissal of the grand jury indictment, arguing that the prosecution gave improper jury instructions, acted in bad faith, and failed to present exculpatory evidence.

It also came to light that Baldwin was offered the same plea deal provided to first assistant director Dave Halls, but the prosecution withdrew the offer ten days before Baldwin’s deadline to accept. The court has since ordered and ruled on the proper instructions for the Grand Jury.

I am interested to see how the prosecution responds to this voluminous motion.

Alec Baldwin has filed a motion to dismiss the grand jury indictment claiming an error with the jury instructions. It is also revealed that the prosecution offered Bladwin the same plea deal given to Dave Halls - six months of unsupervised probation and a misdemeanor charge.  But in a curious turn of events, the prosecution withdrew the offer 10 days before the offer expired and indicted him.

Hannah Gutierrez has filed a new trial motion because of a New Mexico Supreme Court decision unrelated to her case. The prosecution responded to the motion and a hearing has been set for Friday, March 29th. I will cover it on my long-form channel.

Kouri Richins’ warrant was unsealed. There was speculation that her mother helped plan Eric Richins’ murder. There will be a Preliminary Hearing on May 15th.

Lastly, there was a breakdown of a Bryan Kohberger hearing from February 28th. It consisted mainly of discovery status and scheduling deadlines. No trial date has been scheduled yet. A hearing for the Motion for Change of Venue has been scheduled for May 14th.

  • On March 6, 2024, Hannah Gutierrez, the armorer on the set of Rust, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. She is set to be sentenced on April 15, 2024, and faces a maximum of 18 months in prison. She is currently in custody pending sentencing, though her lawyer recently filed a motion for a New Trial and release from custody. Her trial was a preview of what witnesses and lawyering we can expect from the prosecution in Alec Baldwin's trial this summer.

Last week the trial of Hannah Gutierrez, the armorer on the set of Rust, ended. She was convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter and acquitted of Tampering with Evidence. Gutierrez was remanded into custody right after the conviction and will likely be sentenced in April.

On the podcast, I talked about Rachel Leviss suing Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval for invasion of privacy, revenge porn, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Rachel spends the majority of the lawsuit detailing her horrible experiences on the set of Vanderpump Rules. Will it survive a motion to dismiss? Will this case settle? I'll be following this closely and provide updates!

Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix were in a 10+ year partnership, co-owned a home (subject of another lawsuit), and shared their relationship on the long-running Bravo show Vanderpump Rules.

Fellow VPR cast member Rachel Leviss started a seven-month-long affair with Tom Sandoval in the Summer of 2022 until Ariana discovered it in March 2023. How Ariana discovered the affair is the subject of a new lawsuit filed by Rachel against Ariana and Tom.

The suit lashes out at Bravo, Lisa Vanderpump, fellow cast members, and more. You don’t want to miss this breakdown!

The civil case between the parents of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie has been reluctantly settled prior to a full jury trial. In my coverage of this lawsuit, I went through the motions for summary judgment but not the depositions.

Today, I am covering the submitted depositions from attorney Steven Bertolino, as well as Christopher and Roberta Laundrie. We hear how they respond to the pointed questions about what they knew, their involvement in the case, and what they thought when Brian called them before the investigation into Gabby's disappearance.

I also cover the sentencing of Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrandt. They will both be imprisoned for at least 4 years, with a maximum penalty of 30 years. The final decision on that sentence will be determined by a Parole Board at a later date.

  • Amber Heard appealed the court's dismissal of her claims against her insurer, New York Marine, for not providing her independent counsel to defend against Johnny Depp. New York Marine argued that they were not obligated to provide Heard with independent counsel and, therefore, hadn’t breached their agreement with her.

Donna Adelson was back in court for case management. The trial will begin at the end of September 2024 and she will have two court appearances before that for case status.

Bryan Kohberger will also be back in court at the end of February for arguments over DNA and to hopefully set a trial date.

In the Petito v Laundrie Civil Case, motions for summary argument have been filed by Steven Bertolino and the Laundries. Now that discovery and depositions are completed, the motions for Summary Judgement will allow the judge to determine if a jury trial is needed in May 2024.

The fight for whether or not the TikTok Defamation case will settle upon Summary Judgement is ongoing. If the judge finds the TikToker liable for defamation, the jury trial will only be on damages.

That's right. In 2024 Amber Heard still has litigation ongoing. Amber is appealing the court's dismissal of her claims against insurer New York Marine.

Heard is arguing that New York Marine breached their agreement with her when they denied her independent counsel to defend her in the Virginia Defamation suit brought by Johnny Depp against her. Amber Heard had two different insurers who had hired attorneys to defend the case.

New York Marine’s lawyers ceased representation of Heard before the Virginia trial. New York Marine argued that they were not obligated to provide Heard with independent counsel and, therefore, hadn’t breached their agreement with her. The court agreed, and the appeal followed.
